Doctors On Sight

Went in to get a repair done on a pair of glasses that I bought somewhere else. The staff was great and fixed me right up at no charge!

For those of us who need vision correction, we don’t want to entrust our eyes to just anyone. My experience at this location gave me confidence that Doctors on Sight is a place you can trust.
When I arrived, I was promptly seen by the optometrist who was knowledgable and friendly. Both the optometrist and administrative staff were quick and patient to answer all the questions I had.
When it came to picking out frames for my new glasses, the staff member who assisted me was very helpful. In fact, I ended up choosing a pair he had picked for me out of many possibilities. The staff were pleasant to be around and easy to talk to, ask questions, and patient as I was deciding between many frames.
Overall, my experience here was great-​it was kept nice and clean inside, the staff was friendly and professional, and the selection of glasses frames was ample.

Cannot recall a better experience! An ample selection of rectangular shaped frames in all price ranges. Eric C. assisted with me with service par excellence. Tremendous after purchase support… I even stop by at lunchtime when I don’t need anything – just to say hello. They are professionals at what they do, most of all they’re just good people ;-).

Hands down the best eyewear shop in Germantown, MD with some nice and large selection of eyeglasses and sunglasses to choose from. Dr. Montgomery was really nice and was extremely concerned with the health of my eyes, the optician took a lot of time in making sure my eyeglasses look its best. When it comes to customer service and satisfaction, Eric nails it!!! He was such a nice guy and provided what looked best for me. Reasonable price. When I asked, «How long would my eyeglasses take to finish?» He replied, «within a couple of weeks» When I got the phone call advising me that my eyeglasses were ready for pick up, I was very surprised. He replied is always better to under promise and then over deliver. My Goodness! So, that was great. Eyeglasses ready in just a few days? Where else can you get that? He even took sometime to adjust the glasses to fit my face and back of my ears for free. No other eyewear shop or optician does that. I don’t think. Most shops just hand your finished eyeglasses and say «here you go, thank you.» but Eric took the time to make sure everything is good. When I put on the eyeglasses that I just got from Doctors on Sight, they were extremely clear and I can see things very clear now. Not like my previous eyeglasses lens where they were somewhat not as good and I was told to give it a few days. There must be something they put in the lens or some secret additives, who knows. Would definitely recommend this shop to others and will come back!

Eye doctor was wonderful, very knowledgeable, really nice. Do not buy from the sales reps though. Something is shady about their practices. I had a trial, they had me pay the difference of my insurance to the cost of the lenses so they could order if I like the trial. The trial contacts were no different to the contacts I use and so I opted not to get the new ones as they were double the price of my existing ones.
I called in and told them, and said I will order the contacts myself and use my benefits to get frames instead.
Sales rep said she would transfer the insurance and the cost difference for when I came back. I said I didn’t want to do that now as I’d be out of the country. She said because I had the fitting there I had to use my benefits by transferring them from the contacts to frames. I paid my copay for the fitting.
Called my insurer to confirm this (as I knew it wasn’t true) and they confirmed.
I called back, spoke to that same girl, she did a complete 180 on me and said I could get my refund but in a check and it will be a while. Hello? That’s what I’d asked for.
Either way something is shady here. Enquired about lens prices when i was there and I know I probably need the thinnest — she looked in her draw (no transparency or a comparison for ME to see) and gave me a price of $ 260 but «if you order today I’ll give you 20% off» –not sure if she was discounting 20% or in fact she was talking about my insurance benefits (which is 20% on lenses).
They have a really nice glasses collection but I’ll probably spend my benefits elsewhere. Even if it is to try a different Doctors on Sight with more transparent salespeople.
TL;DR — Check all your benefits and don’t hand over any money for goods until you know your coverage and have shopped around. Hearing her say «such a good deal» as she priced up my lenses should have been a warning sign.

Pretty bad folks. Pretty bad. Staff is pleasant but can’t seem to get it right on many levels. You are better off elsewhere.

They just hired some new employees who do not know how to do their job correctly and get upset if you tell them they messed up. They messed up my contact lense order 2 times and the store hours are until 7pm and I went at 6:15pm and they were closed. Employees at desk are rude and not willing to help unless you really push them. STAY AWAY, FIND ANOTHER PLACE!!! NOT WORTH ALL THE HASSLE.

One of the sales associates became pushy and kept asking me if I wanted to use my second benefit for an additional pair of glasses or sunglasses. I politely declined *several* times.
Easy transaction otherwise. Their frame selection is diverse. They explain all fees and insurance details (i.e., no hidden charges). I would go back.

This was my first visit to this place. The actual eye exam and frames selection is nothing special, but their ability to make and keep appointments needs work. After making my first appointment for ¼, I was called and told that the appointment needed to be changed because they were doing inventory at the store and the person who scheduled me didn’t know that. Eh… it happens. Changed the appointment to ¹⁄₆ @ 5:00. I arrived early to fill out paperwork which was so disorganized and they weren’t clear about what the insurance would cover. It didn’t matter because the doctor didn’t see me until after 6. While I was waiting, the woman working wasn’t particularly pleasant to people looking around. One customer asked her how much a particular frame was and the woman responded that she wasn’t going to look up the price unless she actually knew she wanted to buy the glasses or else it’d be a waste of her time. The same woman was pleasant enough to me.
Then, I had to schedule a follow up appointment for the contact fitting once the contacts arrived. I scheduled that day to come back on ¹⁄₁₅ @4:45 only to get a call the day before saying they have to cancel the appointment AGAIN. Now I am rescheduling for next week. I’m hoping that they can actually keep the appointment this time!

I have mixed feelings here.
On one hand, I appreciated the friendliness of the staff and doctors, the convenience of hours for those of the 9 – 5 professions, and the high tech machines they use to look at your eyes; hence more accuracy.
On the other hand, they slyly add on extraneous fees to your visit. A $ 60 charge for «contact fitting» fee was added to my final bill that is not covered by insurance. What happened was, after my doctor kindly measured my eyes (I just came in for a check up), he said «lets go try on some contacts.» Why? I don’t know, I already had contacts, all I would really need is an up-​to-​date prescription and a new supply. No warning of a fee was mentioned. All the doctor did was put on a pair of sample contacts into my eyes, which I could do for myself. I sat there, confused. Ok. Thanks?
Later on, as I collected my up-​to-​date prescription and the friendly assistant totaled up my bill, she said, there is an extra $ 60 charge for your eye fitting. I was confused. I did not ask for it, I did not request it, and I was not even told that something that I could do for myself and was unnecessary was considered a charged service. I kindly told her this. She kindly said, «Sorry, nothing I could do. The doctor did put the contacts into your eyes, did he not?» And there was when I felt like, these people are too nice, lets not ruin it and be a rambunctious customer. Lets just kindly hand over the $ 60 and walk away. You cannot win every battle. You are a pushover.
So yes. Be forewarned by me, since they won’t warn you, that if you come, they will smile but they will also try to perform unnecessary tests, add on services that seem like routine parts of a check-​up and charge you for each and every one of them.
My suggestion? Before they put another hi-​tech machine in your face to test you for jaundice or whatever else they say you should get tested for, even if you only came in for a new prescription, kindly ask them, «Is there a fee to this?»
