What a little gem tucked away upstairs. Choice of six soups, four different salads or sandwiches. Tomato pesto soup with goat cheese won an award and is a winner. Easy place to grab something quickly that is well priced and perfect on a cold day. Seating limited but looks like it would be just as good to go.

Great variety of soups daily with a few that are everyday(tomato basil with Goat cheese to name one) and a few that are the daily specials. Turkey Sloppy Joes are fantastic! Salads are available too. A must try! Located above Whit’s Frozen Custard. Very limited seating but is great for take away.

Turkey Sloppy Joes and Tomato Soup topped with goat cheese — the combo makes the perfect lunch! You can’t go wrong with any of their soups though as they are all delicious. Their Greek salad is also very good as well. Seating isn’t really an option so it’s a great place to get a lunch to go. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Another Granville gem!

Our lunch definitely lived up to the hype. I wanted to mention though that it is possible to comfortably sit inside, though maybe not at a super peak time. There are 8 bar seats and one real table. A small detail, but if seats are a must for your visit, it might be possible. My friend and I chatted happily at the window seats. Fresh, interesting, classic, quality soup + fresh, non-mayo based chicken salad + baguette that is absolutely not a baguette but is still great with the soup + super fair prices + a friendly and pleasant owner = nailed it.

Soup is great, seating is not. This place is quaint little loft above the frozen custard shop. Great soups from Tomato Bisque topped with Goat Cheese to Chicken Orzo Soup. I recommend soup on any day!

Not just soup. Also a few daily choices of sandwiches(egg/chicken/tuna type), a couple green salads, and pasta/potato salads. Selections/specials made fresh daily so not a million items to choose from which is nice. I have been 3 times and each visit has been consistent in food quality and taste. Very very small seatting area so plan for takeout or plan to come on off lunch times. Owner/chef is a very nice and is a welcoming host. He will happily give you samples of the daily soup choices. Granville is a good drive from the city but is a quaint little town which offers a few things to do in and around the town if time allows. My idea of a great Fall day is taking a calm scenic drive to Granville arriving early afternoon. Next, walking thru the few shops, getting take out lunch at The Soup Loft, and heading over to Pigeon Roost Farm to enjoy our lunch at the picnic area before having our usual Pigeon Roost Farm fun. If I have time to swing by the Granville apple orchard to grab some bushels of «seconds» to make crisps/pie with then all the better. :-)

This is Granville’s little gem for soup! Since it was my first visit, the owner let me sample their daily soup offerings. I had the tomato pesto with goat cheese soup. delicious! They have a decent sized list of seasonal soups and also offer salads, and a few sandwiches. Not much room for sitting(1 – 2 tables), but great for an on-the-go lunch grab.

Delicious, filling, healthy, home made soups and sandwiches — what’s not to love? Enter Whit’s and go straight upstairs, although the custard is always tempting… There is very limited seating, so it’s good for a lunch on the go. They have their regular menu items and a few rotating options — all of which are excellent! The staff is also super friendly. I’m happy to have found a place like this!

This place is a hidden gem… literally hidden. The only downside to this little café is that they are located in a loft wtih very little seating(if any). What matters most about The Soup Loft, a quality product. The food here is amazing. The soup was simple, fresh, and healthy. It was nice to go to a restuarant where the food is made from scratch and you can watch them prepare the food. It was my first time there and the owner was more than willing to let me sample the soups they were offering(four consistent soups and then usually two or three that are specials). I highly suggest this cute little restuarant. The tomato pesto soup with goat cheese is to die for. I can’t wait to return with my co-workers.

I drove out to the Soup Loft a couple of years ago after hearing about a fantastic soup place. It is no lie! It is soup worth driving an hour for. After sampling some of the other foods out in Granville, I have to say that the Soup Loft is one of the top eateries in Granville. It is in a unique location(the upstairs of Whit’s Custard), somewhat small and the service here has always been top notch. The owner is in the kitchen, which is wide open, working and there is no sign of Seinfeld-esque soup escapades. There is usually at least one vegetarian option. The tomato pesto is fantastic. Hours change in the summer(Who eats soup in the summer?! It’s that good that my fiancé and I drove out to get soup and alas… summer hours!). A must try!

I have been meaning to visit the Soup Loft for quite some time and finally got the chance this afternoon for lunch. It’s sort of tricky to find because you have to enter Whit’s Frozen Custard, then right before you get to their counter, you turn left and head up the stairs.(I felt sorry for the lady behind the Whit’s counter because I guess it had been slow that day and her eyes lit up at a potential customer… then I made that sharp left and her shoulders slumped a little). It’s extremely small — truly a loft. There were 8 people there when I ordered my to-go lunch — six were eating there and 2 were ordering takeout like me. There was still space for 2 – 3 more people to eat in if they squeezed together. The kitchen(more like a kitchenette) is right behind the counter and they use an iPhone with a «Square Card Reader»(brand name) to process credit cards — which I thought was very cool. I ordered the tomato pesto w/goat cheese soup, a turkey sloppy joe and an extra baguettes for dipping into the soup. The turkey sloppy joe was very good — not spicy and it was clear this wasn’t made from a can or packet of sloppy joe mix. It was homemade all the way. The tomato pesto w/goat cheese was good — very good — but it wasn’t 5 stars good. But in the world of soup and sandwich shops, The Soup Loft would be hard to beat.

Delicious lunch today at The Soup Loft! When you’re in Granville make it a point to stop in. We had the tomato soup with goat cheese and turkey chili and the turkey sloppy joe. All were yummers. The homemade bread was the icing on the cake. I was glad to see the shop so busy. The owner was super friendly. I would love to support this great local gem every day if I could… but sadly I live 30 minutes away.

The Soup Loft is the only restaurant in Granville that I would say is fully deserving of a 5-star rating. The prices might be a little high for some people(four dollars for a large bowl of soup and a piece of baguette), but I think that the quality of the ingredients, the great service, the charming atmosphere, and, most importantly, the delicious food more than make up for it. The owner’s name is Kevin, and he prepares and cooks all of the food himself. He truly loves food, and it definitely shows in the soups that he creates. He knows me by name and always remembers to recommend whatever vegetarian soups he is serving that week. There are usually six or seven types of soup available, some of which change on a weekly basis and some of which(like the tomato pesto with goat cheese) are available every week. My favorite soup is the black bean and brown rice, a delicious chili-like soup that is hearty and flavorful. Kevin puts a slice of banana at the bottom of every bowl, which surprised me at first but soon became my favorite part of the dish. Another perk of The Soup Loft is that all of the utensils are biodegradable, a bit of environmental commitment from Kevin that has definitely won my respect. The Soup Loft is located above Whit’s, and the atmosphere is small but charming and cozy. You can take your soup outside in the summer if you’d like, or you can sit at the booth inside the Loft and look out the windows at the going-abouts on the streets of Granville. In short: The Soup Loft serves wonderful, flavorful soups at a reasonable price. The bread is always fresh and is a complements the soup perfectly. The owner is friendly, environmentally-minded, and he cooks all of the food himself. It’s just a wonderful restaurant all around. THESOUPLOFT: THEBESTFOODINGRANVILLE.

Great soup! I’ve never had a bad bowl of soup, and Kevin’s a great guy. Somewhat easy to miss if you don’t live here, but it’s above Whit’s Ice Cream. Don’t forget your cash, since he only accepts green paper.

My discovery of the Soup Loft has to be comparable to the feeling of the first man to step on the moon. If you love soup this place is for you, every single time I have had their soup it has knocked me off my feet. Even types of soup I did not think I would like I ending up liking, but I really believe this is the only place that is would be the case. Come visit the Soup Loft in downtown Granville above Whit’s custard and help yourself to a hot bowl of soup and a fresh baguette.
