Food was pretty good, but manager bullied me. It made me quite scared to order food. I ordered the California bento box and it was pretty good. Dank

The service is kinda mean. The food is good though. I get a stingy vibe from manager or owner of the restaurant.

I’m sorry people, but, whoever said this place has the«best sushi ever» has never experienced good sushi and is insane. Their rolls are disgusting. Time and time again when I try to give this place a chance I am overly disappointed. The rolls are so overly huge and they put way too much rice in each roll. I don’t want to be eating sushi that can’t even fit in my mouth or falls apart when I go to pick it up. Real sushi is small enough where you can pop it in your mouth piece by piece. There’s also something off about the taste of their rolls, fred meyer has better sushi than theis place! All of their food is so sub par, it makes me wonder people’s taste that say this is «the best sushi I’ve ever had.» I would never eat here again ONTOP of the fact their customer service is HORRIBLE. Rude employees+horrible food= never again.

I wanted to give this sushi place another chance since i accually liked thier food and the resturant was clean and presentable, but service on the other hand is not so much. I had to remind the waitress several times to bring me sauce for sushi. finaly it was brought to our table as we were half way done. I ordered to go food for my coworker, but no utensils were included in the bag. The waitress also had no knowledge of whats on the menu and was not helpful when questioned.

It’s hard for me to decide the number of stars. I loved the nigiri – hamachi and salmon – very fresh snd generous portion. The miso was tepid, but tasty. My mother-in-law really enjoyed her beef bento box – especially the crispy gyoza. The staff is super-friendly. But – I cannot adequately describe how horrible the loud loungey smarmy music is – so distracting. WAIT! Edit – within seconds of me posting this review, they turned it off. The crowd roars! 4 stars!!!

Best sushi I’ve ever had. Mt Hood Rolls are a family favorite. St Helens is a must try! Friendly service and fresh ingredients. Finally authentic sushi in Gresham. We are weekly regulars and Yami is programmed in my phone.

I first heard about this place from someone I worked with — swore that this place has the best sushi she’s ever had. That’s why I decided to visit on a day when I was craving some sushi. We came in at around 5, no one else was in the restaurant, that should have been the first red flag… But it was a Tuesday evening so I didn’t think much of it. First impression? Nice décor, and staff members with no patience. We felt so rushed to decide what we want. Being a first-timer here, I think it’s reasonable to take some time to study the menu. What’s the rush? We barely sat down for two minutes before the server came by and expecting to take the order. When we said we need more time, she looked rather annoyed. We ordered St. Helen rolls, Godzilla rolls and Chicken Katsu. The food is considered decent at best, not all that impressive. I just couldn’t wait to be done with eating and get out. Never again. There are many other sushi places out there with better food and better service.

I was really happy to find a decent sushi place near my house. The look of the sushi here makes you want to eat more. There are daily special to change it up when you want. Their teriyaki chicken is decent if your not a fish fan. Prices are as expected. If you live on the edge of Portland where Gresham begins, its a good place to go.

The food was OK. But the service is so bad that it’s not worth the food. Never in my life have I seen a hostess so rude. She did not speak to us. when we asked for water she said that we needed to order food first before we could have water. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you like to be treated poorly in the restaurant you attend. I heard another customer complain about her service also. The next day I decided to call to talk to the owner about this behavior and I believe the person that seated us was who answered the phone she proceeded to argue with me and denied me the right to talk to the owner about her behavior. Also, all of the fish and seafood is farmed«not fresh»!

I decided to try this place after seeing the other sushi spot I usually go to was extremely busy and I just wanted it to-go. My husband and I were pretty disappointed. The sushi was ok, but it was way to expensive for«average» sushi that seemed to lack a fresh flavor. We also got the veggie tempura and didn’t care for it. We didn’t even finish our food and I don’t think we’ll be back. I did think the restaurant looked cute and clean which is why I’m giving 3 starts instead of 2. And I liked that that they had photos of their sushi in the menu but it also seemed to me that most of the sushi had spicy tuna or spicy salmon in it — even rolls I’ve had other places that weren’t generally spicy. I can’t do spicy and felt it was hard to find a nice roll that I could get.

I had super spicy tuna roll and it was some of the best sushi in east county. Friends had teriyaki chicken and they all liked it. I think the star is the sushi and I will definitely be back with my better half soon. Make sure you come here and try it.

This little unassuming gem caught me off guard. I was looking for basic sushi close by and stopped in as it was my only option. I was a bit put off by the prices but when the plates came out the size and flavor had me sold. The presentation of the dishes is a step above your normal sushi fare as well. Well worth the random stop and possibly another soon.

Highly disappointed. I already felt as if I was overcharged but then to see my food when I got home… my avacado roll was half the size one ones pictures on here and my miso soup wasn’t even a full bowl. Not very happy about this. Food was good but after high expectations I wasn’t too happy

The sushi quality wasn’t bad compared to the sushi I usually get back home in Sacramento. It was a lot better than the sushi I have tried from Sushiland. The service wasn’t all that great that is why I am giving it 3 stars. The lady that helped us seemed like she didn’t want to help us. Our food came but we didn’t have any utensils. I asked for chopsticks and she gave one. So I asked for more since there was 5 of us and she didn’t say anything to me as I was standing next to the chopsticks. She just grabbed 2 chopsticks, walks by me and places it on the table. I will probably look for another sushi spot next time I’m in town. I am big on Customer Service.

I’m a bit perplexed by the reviews that start off with«best sushi ever.» This place has a decent selection of reasonably priced sushi, and the place is clean but it’s still just a strip mall sushi spot. The service is great but overall this place could use some ambience. We ordered the calamari based on other reviews… I was disappointed by the heavy batter. Otherwise the food was fine but anyone claiming this place offers the«best» of anything should probably get out more.

Best Sushi I have ever had in my life! Get the Hurricane, and Spicy Cali Roll! The waitress was fantastic. I can barely move because of how full and happy I am. I am so satisfied. I normally don’t like driving 20 minutes for sushi(especially since there’s a place 2 minutes from my house) but I am completely happy making that trip for Yami! Not only was the sushi absolutely delicious, it was also gorgeous. Very aesthetically pleasing! I’ve had mochi from so many sushi places and Yami takes the cake, man. It had brilliant flavor and also looked beautiful.

My fiancé and I moved to the Portland area after spending four years in Hawaii eating some of the best sushi in the world. We tried a few places in the area and were not very happy– loose rice, tasteless fish, low standards for freshness. We tried this place last week and have decided that it’s now our go to spot. I had a couple rolls(the spicy tuna and the double crunch) and my partner had the salmon bento box. Everything was amazing– fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. We were a bit full but wanted to try something else on the menu, so we got a bowl of the spicy siamin(ramen), and that too was awesome. I’m dying to try their chicken katsu and I think they have curry, so we’re definitely going back more than once. Service was great. The restaurant was clean. Loved it!

The calamari were pretty good. Very simple, but they know what they’re doing. As far as the sushi goes, it’s sub par. I didn’t want to drive to saburo’s and wait in line; I just wanted my sushi fix. This place didn’t provide that for me. The spicy tuna wasn’t spicy. It didn’t have much tuna in it. It felt like I was just eating rice. We had another roll that just had a ton of cream cheese and spicy mayo; i couldn’t even get a hint of the fish. What i did, was get a nigiri to get my fish craving down. The poke salad was pretty good too. Their fish is fresh. But their rolls need more fish and less rice. I don’t think I’ll give this place another chance. i’ll have to go wait in line at saburo’s to get my fish on. BTW if you just like rice and different types of sauces like dragon blood and spicy mayo bazooka, then this place might satisfy you.
