Fresh cranberry beans by the crate! Brought my mom here so she can stock up the freezer cause we missed out last year. That means lots of pasta e fagioli this winter thanks to G. Berta’s. Also bought two big bunches of just-picked, beautiful Swiss chard for dinner tonight. My first time here but I’ll be back! Support your local farmers!

The older man that works here is so beyond rude! I would never give him my business. His produce didn’t even look fresh at all… Don’t even both asking him any questions, he gets very angry. You can get FRESH veggies/fruits elsewhere. Don’t bother. The way he treats his customers is absolutely horrible. He couldn’t even respond to my hello or when I said«thank you» after he was so mean! I was very kind even when he was so rude… I didn’t want to go to his level. Not worth it.

I use to enjoy coming to this produce stand to get Gibson’s avocado honey. It has become a tradition every time we go to Half Moon Bay. I have observed that the lady and fellow who work here are not very friendly but today iced the cake. I am still in shock and upset over my experience. My Mom and I went in and kindly asked if anything was organic or at least not sprayed. I generally only come here for the special honey I like but wanted a little snack. A lot of their produce looks limp like it’s been hit from a heat wave and starting to dwindle. I want lively produce not lifeless. Anyhow, I was hungry and traffic was heavy so I figured I could safely settle on some peas in the pod and asked about them. Organic IS important to me. This stand does not have organic produce but it was worth a shot to try right? WRONG! The old man got very angry when we asked a few simple questions and then tried to ask like we were idiots when we asked about the peas for sale… Then he had the nerve to start swearing at us over his own frustration of not knowing about any of the growing methods of the produce he was selling. We never once lost our temper or were rude in return. Instead we swallowed our pride and just left. I am NOT going to support any business that has the audacity to treat their customers this year. It’s just wrong. There’s a big difference between being in a sour mood and it reflecting your workmanship that day and being down right cold, cruel and careless to customers. I don’t know why he is so unhappy but today was just uncalled for. Tradition now broken. I will not be returning there in the future. Clean up your act, attitudes, store/stand and the produce please and better business is bound to come but today’s experience just lost ours.

Great prices. I was searching and searching for dates and they had them. For that, I love these people.

This is like one of the few and only fruit stands left on the 92 hwy. I used to frequent the others that sold local honey. Finally decided to stop here in search of local honey, for my up and coming spring allergies. Their honey is from Santa Rosa, all the way up in Marin County! In order for the honey to work it has to be pollinated within a 25 mile radius of where you live. Plus they were charging $ 14 for puny sized jars. I turned around and drove back home. :^(

This is the BEST produce stand in HMB. I think it is often overlooked because there are only a few tiny signs for it. They have a great mix of produce to satisfy everyone’s needs, but the veggies they grow right there on their tiny farm are amazing. Peas, the best lettuce in the world, curly heirloom spinach, beets, heirloom green bean varieties, and more. They don’t use pesticides and they also offer other local produce. One reviewer said that it looked like leftover grocery store produce. They must have gone a day when the shop ran out of their local stuff. They do have SOME grocery store produce like onions, lemons, and stone fruit like peaches and plums. I like this, though– it’s nice to get lemons for my dinner without going to grocery store. The owners of the farm are a sweet old couple and they also run the produce stand. Buy local, support these farmers, and taste the difference! I love G Berta’s! Don’t miss this place– especially in spring and summer when their produce is poppin’ :)

Looks like grocery store leftovers. There are even stickers on the fruit. It also seems not very ripe, just like grocery store fruit. If you are looking for grocery-store quality fruit, it is fine. But I had hoped it would be the really nice and ripe stuff you find at the farmer’s markets and it just isn’t. The workers are always very polite and helpful, though.

This is in loving memory of my dear friend’s father, Andrew Bentley who loved peas! G Berta’s is a tradition with my friend and his dad, who always made it a point to stop here and pick up at least a 5lb bag of peas, if not what seemed like a bushel of them, on the way to Barbara’s Fish Trap resturant. I’ve stopped here quite a few times on my own to pick up some beautiful produce if I happened to be in the area. It is always presented simply and beautifully– without pretention and letting the product sell itself. Andy LOVED peas and the fresh peas in the pod grown barely a stone’s throw away were always sweet and delicious. The bag would be empty by the time they got to the restaurant but I think it just served to whet the appetite! The rest of the produce is equally full of flavor and always of excellent quality. We stopped here, a few days after he passed, on Father’s Day on the way to Barbara’s Fish Trap– the tradition happening in his honor. A group of us friends, gathering in the parking lot of G Berta’s Fruit & Vegetable stand; a large bag of peas quickly disappearing between 11 of us as we milled in the sunshine; each of us silent during the unspoken sadness of his absence yet still enduring, the unity of friendship. Thank you Berta’s fruit & vegetable stand, for your generosity and for giving us another way of remembering Andy!
