I like the pizza but they are never open? Everytime I go in he’s out of pizza or closed for repairs. I give the pizza a 7 out of 10 better then anything else around here but still a Windy City pizza guy myself and Toto’s

I heard rumors of great NY style thin-crust pizza in Half Moon Bay so my hubby and I travelled here from Alameda with skeptic hope that it might be true. I rarely give five stars but you’ll understand as you read on. When we first got there close to 2 pm, we saw some cold pizza offered by the slice behind their glass casing. I wasn’t initially impressed but we ordered a pepperoni slice and a vegie slice which owner Dan promptly put in his pizza oven. I asked when fresh pizza slices were offered hot out of the oven and he said around noon. I told him we came from Alameda to try his pizza and he unexpectedly responded with enthusiastic delight, offering to make us a fresh vegie pizza even though we only wanted a couple slices. What! Fireworks were going off in my head. While waiting for the fresh slices, we had the originally ordered slices(that were sitting behind the glass) with a diet cola in a glass bottle. Wow, these reheated slices had a perfect crust texture and a great flavor. That just increased my anticipation for the fresh pizza with spinach, fresh garlic, sliced mini tomatoes and mushrooms, which Dan was making us. It did not disappoint! It was deeelish! The melted mozarella stretched from the slice with each bite. Dare I say it may be the best thin-crusted pizza that I’ve had on the West Coast. What is the secret? Is it their imported flour from Italy? Is it their yeast starter? Maybe you can’t question greatness. Just quiet your mind and take it in. In any case, when we were done, we had four slices in all and two glasses of diet cola and he only charged us for two slices and one diet cola, less than $ 10. What? After I thanked him and told him how much I enjoyed his pizza. He gave me another free slice for the road. Did I win the pizza lottery? Thanks Dan! Super yummy pizza and wonderful service.

I give this place 5 stars for the pizza itself — delicious in every way. The reason it’s not a 5 star review is simply the restaurant environment. It’s like they only *halfway* committed to it — they usually only have one or two pizzas in the display, their refrigerator displays are sparse, no music on, employees eating at the register… all in all, not the kind of environment that makes me want to stay a while. I’d like to see them put in a little more effort with ambiance and overall restaurant vibe. But to give credit where it is due, their pizza slices are absolutely delicious!

We just randomly ate here while we were going to be in the area for a few days. And… we loved it! We have not found such great pizza as this in the East Bay Area.

This is a great place to grab a slice with the fam. The owners are friendly and the pizza is superb! Pretty affordable compared to some of the competition in the area also.

We found this place on our way down the coast to Monterey through Unilocal. It was around 3:30p on a Friday afternoon so it wasn’t busy while we were there. I ordered the Calzone $ 8 and my husband ordered two cheese slices and a side salad. A calzone is one of my favorite dishes and it’s easy to get wrong, but these guys didn’t disappoint. The crust was fully cooked, thin and just the right amount of crisp. The fillings were perfectly portioned. Just cheesy enough to be delicious but not so much that you hate yourself after consuming. The sausage was exceptionally tasty and had a good amount as well as the pepperoni. I usually use a lot of marinara for dipping with my calzones but not this time. It was so good without it. My husband’s salad looked fresh with premium toppings, not the cheap tomato, cucumber stuff. While eating his two slices he inquired about the hot honey-fennel pollen and he was given a complimentary taste to top his second slice with. Very tasty! Keep up the good work guys. We will be back.

I’m from New Jersey, so I think my opinion of pizza holds extra weight. This is the best pizza I have had since moving to the Bay Area almost 2 years ago. Thin crust, good cheese to sauce ratio, and the entire thing actually has flavor without grease. It’s expensive compared to the typical NJ $ 10 pie, but it’s inexpensive compared to $ 14 you’ll pay for a personal at Delfina or $ 24 you’ll pay at Arinell’s. They smartly adjusted the pizza to west coast tastes by using good clean ingredients with some different combinations than east coasters usually find. The space is nice too, good natural light, high ceiling, and quality seating. Sweet staff!

Pulled into parking lot for Japanese food but saw this place next door instead and thought we would give it a try. Glad we did… the pizza was delicious and unique. We also ordered two salads and self helped by pulling the last two out of the fridge(they hand make the salads and put them in plastic containers to grab). The pizza is an expensive pie, but felt the price paid was fair given the high quality ingredients and delicious taste. The owner is really nice and cares about delivering a quality product. We’ll be back as want to try the other speciality pizzas. Super casual place too– perfect for laid back Coastside community!

This place is far from«$» price rating. More like $$ or $$$. $ 32 for an 18″ pie with sausage. Their claims are contrary to their product. New York pizza is thin, foldable and available with common toppings. No ham and no pineapples here. Pepperoni and sausage are considered a premium topping(extra $ 3.50 each). I guess the hot honey and pollen toppings sell enough to justify not offering and over pricing the common ones. Very disappointed with my visit other then the person that took my order was very professional.

Delicious, Italian-style pizza with California flair. I say Italian-style so as not to provoke the New Yorkers. I love a slice of salty, greasy pie as much as the next mook, but this pizza is more like the kind you get in the old country: thin, tender crust with a slight crunch, simple sauce full of tomato flavor, the freshest cheese and high-quality, local toppings. Since we’re in Cali, those toppings might include fennel pollen or spicy honey– they even make a vegan pizza with cashew nut cheese. But the simple mozzarella cheese slice is quite delightful all on its own. And there are lots of fancy meat options if that’s your thing, too. Conveniently located in the complex right before the main drag, this place is definitely worth a visit. If you’re like us, you’ll grab a couple of slices to eat there and then take home a whole giant pie to graze on the rest of the weekend. The whole pizza won’t fit in your fridge, so you HAVE to eat it. It’s a win-win. So if you’re in Half Moon Bay getting a pumpkin or catching a wave or watching a whale or just cooling off, I suggest you grab a slice and see for yourself.

There are a number of detailed reviews on here already … log off of Unilocal and go to Pizzeria West… NOW!!! Pizzeria West is the best pizza we’ve had in a very long time. IMHO it’s definitely the best pizza on the coast and in some ways better than my(former) Bay Area favorite — Ameci’s. We’re locals and noticed the new pizza joint had opened. Our destination was HMB Coffee to get a sandwich for a late lunch. Our 12 yr old son was with me and we decided to grab a slice instead. Pizzeria West’s owner greeted us as we approached the counter. He mentioned that a fresh pie was coming out in 5 mins. Fresh, Fresh, Fresh I’m happy to pay a little more for food that is fresh, includes locally sourced produce and made from scratch. The pizza crusts at Pizzeria West are not only made from fresh dough, it’s a sourdough crust. Oh baby, the crispy chewy texture with a hit of sourdough was a treat! The sauce, fresh as well is used in just the right ratio. The Pizza We tried a slice of: the combo, the cheese and also a slice of pepperoni. Per our son, the pepperoni was off the charts! The cheese was excellent as well. The biggest surprise was the combo(this was a slice that was setting there when we walked in). My expectations were low. This was one of the best combos I’ve ever had in the Bay Area! In addition to assorted meats, the fresh spinach and garlic were outstanding! We’ll be back for a combo for the family! Soda Pop I’d recently talked with our son about how sodas were made in the«olden days» … Coca Cola was made with cane sugar and had a clean taste(not medicinal). We don’t have sodas very often … so quality is important. It was a real treat to discover the soda pop selection. I found a ginger soda that looked great — bits of ginger settled on the bottom, The soda was from Berkeley. My son found a root beer(frosty bear?)… his new favorite. Ooh la la. We found a real Coca Cola … Made in Mexico with cane sugar. It’s waiting for the weekend. Yummers!!!

To start, I am a pizza snob from NY so I think most pizza west of New Jersey is pretty terrible. We were in Half Moon Bay for the weekend and needed some dinner Saturday night for the 6 of us. At first glance, the restaurant is clean and the ovens are hot. Great smells coming from the oven. This place had the potential to be pretty good but fell short in a few categories that left us all pretty disappointed. First, this place isn’t one«$». Two pizzas, one cheese and one pepperoni cost us $ 65. Very steep for a local takeout pizza place. Second, the crust wasn’t bad, but it was too thick. Pizza should be thin, easy to fold in half and make a nice little crunch when you bite into it. The sauce was very bland. It tasted straight outta the can, no seasoning or love. Also, the margarita pizza had way too much sauce and cheese on it, so it just ate like a big gooey mess. A few good things:(1) the pepporonis were awesome. Very good topping.(2) salads were pretty good for a side(3) the pizzas are quite large. However, quality over quantity is preferred. I’d much rather have a thin crust, excellent $ 20 pie than a large, too thick, too saucy $ 30 pie. Overall, not a bad option for a quick bite while in Half Moon Bay. However, I had to comment because there is an overwhelming amount of 5 star ratings, and some even seem biased as there is no way this place makes«masterpieces». Let’s be honest, this is an average pizza at best at an above average price.

Every ingredient is carefully selected, and every pizza made is a masterpiece. No one I have ever met in this business, puts more love into their pizzas than Danny. The pies are king, and there is no shortage of unique creations to choose from. My personal favorite is «Feed me Seymour», followed closely by «Lord of the Pies», and«The Porketarian». Toppings are sourced well and some of them are made in house. On top of having amazing, huge, New York style pies, they also serve slices, and recently added a few salads on the side. They don’t have any corn syrup in the sodas they stock either. If you are on the coast and want a wonderful meal, look no further than Pizzaria West! Just writing this review makes me want to walk down and grab another slice.

Round Table back in the day use to tout the phrase, «The Last Honest Pizza», well I hate to disappoint them, but there is another! My daughter and I were coming back from chilling at the beach and we were in need of some food, we came to this little strip mall and after walking out of the Chinese joint(see review). We walked in and the first thing that I noticed was a strange menu. Not bad, just strange. Whole Milk, Organic, Etc. These were different pizzas. Hand made with fresh ingredients. They had one size and the prices were a little high but not outrageous. We ordered the closest thing to all meat and the kid told us it would be 15 minutes, well it was closer to 25 but I wasnt going to take a star for this, because the pizza was awesome. Let me clarify that I have had pizza in NY, Chicago and North Beach and this pie was one of the best ones that I have ever had. It was what we call a fold over. No fork and knives here! It had the right amount of grease and the toppings were amazing. If you are ever in the area and want some pizza, I recommend coming here.

Tried this place with my wife the other night when we planned to eat Sushi and the line was out the door. First off the owner was very cool and we had a fun time speaking to him about pizza and NYC. I wanted so much to be able to give a 5 star, but it was a solid 4 for NYC pizza in California. I would have liked a little more sauce and for sure more toppings. We did a pretty plain mushroom and sausage pizza, the mushrooms were very fresh(not canned thank you very much) and the sausage was tasty but the amount of sausage was skimpy. Maybe since we were the last customers of the day they were nearly out of it. We will be back for sure and I will ask for a little extra sauce and go heavy on the toppings. Pepperoni next time. Nice work, this is probably the best pie on the Coastside, it isn’t cheap, for Mom & Dad with the kiddies you can probably still hit Straw Hat or Roundtable as your little ones will not appreciate this for the extra price, but for those over 15 years old this is completely worth a few extra bucks. One last thing, how about some salads and hang some pictures :) and get a beer and wine permit(or how about bring your own bottle policy).

When we first walked in(family of 4) their slice options were basic: pepperoni, and cheese. My wife is vegetarian, so we almost walked out. However, the Owner(I assume) offered to whip up a vegetarian pizza for slices. The pepperoni was okay, but the fresh Veggie pizza he made was delicious. Sweet peppers, feta cheese, spinach. Great. Drink selections are fine. No beer. It’s a family-run establishment which is cool. Only suggestion is for more slices available and maybe some good HMB brews.

I think about pizza once every 16 seconds. Don’t believe me? You should see my browser history. I’m practically a pizza pervert with the amount of time I spend looking up businesses, photos, jokes, and recipes on the topic of the greatest food ever on a daily basis. My roomie and I came here after getting jammed up in weekend traffic coming back from a day-long hike sans food and decided we needed some sustenance, stat. We chose Pizzeria West for its proximity, its newness, and because we were dressed like vagabonds and not dress-code ready for some of the other pizza options in the area. Pizzeria West wasn’t what I was thinking, but it wasn’t bad. I’m generally not a huge fan of by-the-slice pie because it’s never that fresh, the sauce dries out upon being reheated, and the cheese tends to get that skin kind of texture to it, but we were already here and the other option in the strip just weren’t going to work for our ultra casual dining needs. I think it was probably around 6:30 when we got here and the option for slices were 3 slices of cheese pizza or some meat one that the lady in front of us ended up buying out anyway. I wasn’t thrilled with the selection, to say the least, but for $ 3 a slice and my being super hungry for pizza, it did the trick. It took just a few more moments for our 2 slices to get re-heated so when they came out they were def piping hot, but I couldn’t wait and decided to take my chances by scarfing the first bite right away and suffering from the burnt-roof-of-mouth blues. The pizza was A-OK. It wasn’t life-changing and that they only had one kind of slice available at what seemed like a prime Saturday dinner hour was odd, but you can also order whole pizzas in a number of other combinations for around $ 30 each with some fancier ingredients. I did really like the sauce they used and found that theirs is one of the only by-the-slice pizzas I’ve ever had where the sauce wasn’t all dried up upon reheat or didn’t have enough sauce present to begin with. I wasn’t a huge fan of the 2+ inches of crust on the outer rim, but I’m a natural born crust hater so I might be biased. If I’m back and get a whole pie I’ll def request that they put the toppings as much to the edge of the pizza as possible for me. The staff were all really nice and you could see that the whole thing was a family affair, which is always heart-warming and nice to see. The décor is pretty non-existent but they’re new and if you’re looking for a quick slice of pie the ambience probably isn’t the first thing on your mind.

Perfect for after a good stroll at the beach. Dan the owner is passionate about pizza, I love asking him about the choice of ingredients– from the organic flour to the type of tomatoes. He has a pizza with a bit of honey which is epic. One realizes this is a different place from just the choice of exotic sodas available. Wonderful to see independent business owners adding even more life and uniqueness to Halfmoon Bay.
