A great place to come and have a hookah or a drink or two.

Sphinx was our old stomping ground years ago, but I’m glad to see this place is under new ownership. Moe, the owner, is super friendly and has turned this place into a great spot. Nice vibe, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. We’ll be back for sure!

I’ve been here a few times now and each time the hospitality is unmatched here. It’s got to the point where the server Mo remembers my drink and my name welcoming me with a cheerful greeting before I’ve even sat down. The food is delicious too thanks to Daymond the cook there. That guy cooks it right and cooks it well each time I order something. Absolutely love this place. Highly recommended.

The people who work here are SO friendly, and holy cow, the food is amazing! My boyfriend and I just kept impulse ordering off the menu! The atmosphere is great too, real laid back and chill.

Moe is legit. Very friendly. Great customer service. Engages and chats with everyone. And the food is nothing short of incredible. I’ve had the inside out grilled cheese, the tots, the hummus, the tomato soup, the bbq wings, and the Thai wings.
My absolute favorites are the Thai wings and tomato soup. The Thai wings are grilled with an incredible sauce. Not too spicy, and sauced very well. Presentation is excellent as well.
The tomato soup has a great spice to it (not hot spice, but flavor spice). It’s really a great combo with the grilled cheese. It’s a fresh take on an old classic that does not disappoint.
The atmosphere is chill, and music is on point for a hookah bar. Lots of seating, and good drink menu.
Can’t say enough good things about this place. It’s one of my favorites in northern Virginia. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

Nice place, very friendly waitress. Decent menu that need to add more stuff. Pizza is one of the unique taste. Music can be better if they are interested in improve their customers relationship. Love the place in general.

This place is great ! Best hookah spot in the area. The service is fantastic. The bartender and owner were super sweet and attentive. The drinks are good and inexpensive. I had margaritas with very fresh lime juice for $ 6 a glass. The music catered to everyone with a variety of genres. Music wasn’t TOO loud like most hookah places. The décor is hip and cute. Literally nothing wrong with this place, even the bathrooms are super clean! I haven’t tried their food yet, but from watching others order it looks delicious. The place is tiny though so I’m not sure how well it can hold a big group for a birthday celebration or something like that, but I would still recommend this place for a girls night out or a date night !

Where do I start? I’ve been here twice and both time I’ve had an amazing time. The services at this place was on point. The waiters/​waitresses didn’t miss a beat. The hookah are smooth and the coals are regularly replaced. It’s a small place, but it’s nice and cozy. The music and lighting gives this place a nice vibe! Also, I like to judge a place by the cleanliness of the bathroom, and this place has a very clean bathroom!

I want to start of by saying that a 3 star rating is respectable and the new ownership has really transformed Sphinx into a better establishment.
Let’s start with the positive. The new ownership has turned the location into a true lounge scenario. You can really relax with the hookah while you and your friends hang out due to the comfortable seating arrangements. The TVs on the wall provide entertainment and offer a great way to watch sports events. The music is up to date and the sound system is top notch. The service is truly amazing. I almost gave an additional start just for that. It’s much cleaner inside and you feel taken care of.
I consider myself an advanced hookah smoker and I was really not impressed with the way my hookah was made. Hookah setups are delicate and require tending to so that they smoke well. Our hookah bowl was over packed (yes, this can be a bad thing) to the point where you could see the sheesha smoking through the foil. The coal: shisha ratio was bad and we barely had any thickness to our smoke. They use propane self lighting coal which are a huge no no in the hookah smoking world. Albeit they did mention that they normally have coconut coals the propane coal really tainted the taste of our Melon Starbuzz. I would gladly pay an extra $ 1 for the coconut style coals and not Coco-​Nara. I asked for a second coal which made the hookah hit much nicer but you could barely taste anything other than the coal at this point. The fancy fruit hookahs looked entertaining and seemed like they were hitting better than the standard hookah but I wasn’t ready to pay extra for that. In my opinion a hookah bar needs to learn how to deliver good regular hookahs that hit well and taste good before they try to razzle and dazzle with specialty stuff. My last point is that hookah smokers should be able to request tongs for the coals so they can adjust the temperature and the intensity of the smoke since the staff are not trained to tend to the hookahs in this manner. Rotating the coal around the head and pushing it to the edge in the beginning allows for a longer and smoother smoke.
The next point was the food. I’m not sure what everyone is so taken back by but to be honest I prefer the food that Sphinx was serving up. It may have not been as clean but it was legitimate and had a lot of flavor. I definitely miss the middle eastern vibe that Sphinx had with it’s food menu. The food at Nomad was honestly just mediocre and nothing too special. I do appreciate the variety that the menu has now. It looks like their bar has some good stuff but I didn’t come to drink so I’m not sure how to address that part of the menu.
Lastly, the music was just a bit loud for me but it wasn’t anything to complain about when I was there. All in all it’s a great step forward for this hookah location but I think that the current five star review exists because of how much better this place is than the sphinx.
I’ll probably visit this place again in a few months to see if anything has changed.

My go to spot for drinks hookah and food. I have tried everything on their menu and it’s fantastic !!! The chef is something else. Drinks are awesome and have just amount of liquor :) hookah is good too but I go more for the drinks and food. Awesome music, comfy pillows and has the Mediterranean vibe to it. Check it out and service is always on point!!!

Love the vibe of this place! I was first brought to this place on a date, and I ended up loving the place so much that I went back the next time with my best friend! The atmosphere is perfect whether you want to spend time your boyfriend/​girlfriend or just have a chill hookah night with your friends, Nomad does not disappoint. They have great flavors of hookah, alcohol and food. Definitely recommend!

Best chill and relaxing hookah bar in the area. Sure if you want a party there may be better places, but how about a chill place where there will be music but not loud and overbearing where you can’t have a conversation. Also a big plus is they have a bar so you can also relax while having beers or cocktails. They have great happy hour specials during the week as well. Mo is great and very flexible. I’ve frequented all the hookah bars from Leesburg to D.C. and there is no better combination of factors that would put any other hookah bar on top of Nomad in my opinion.

You wouldn’t guess from seeing this place from the road but it is one of the better establishments in the area. The staff is young, energetic and extremely friendly.
The most surprising thing about this place is that their food is amazing. My wife and I have tried most of their menu and are shocked by the quality each time.

I saw this place had all five star reviews and I had to check it out. I didn’t know how this little spot could be rated so highly. Then I got here and I was like… How could u NOT give them five stars. Too amazing.

Their hookahs are okay, but the best thing about this place is their staff. We were there for a hookah and though it was late, the staff was friendly and welcoming. Without such a service my review would be 3 star.

Was a little skeptical at first because when we walked in, it was quiet. However, as soon as we sat down, we were greeted and served. Service was fantastic. We got the inside/​out grilled cheese and fries and watermelon mint hookah (recommended by our waiter).staff was super friendly and helpful. Moe, the bartender, was cool and chatted with us the whole night.

I’m not into hookah, but it’s a great place to go to as a group regardless. Good/​fast service, good atmosphere, good food/​drinks, and decent prices. Can’t complain.

Honestly speaking. I would say this is one of the doper hookah spots ice been to from cali to ny. Really nice vibes. I don’t even need the special they gave me because they had another special going on Wednesday that beat the coupon.
Ask for a die named moe his people are in Houston that’s a plus lol. But he will keep you up on their specials. Got a pizza coming out with a local beer. Yerp

Loved this place. Stopped by a couple weeks ago while traveling for business. Great atmosphere, excellent music, and the nicest staff. They are good folks. The food was exceptional. I had a dynamite catfish appetizer and grilled chicken sandwich.
You can go with a group or hang out with your laptop if you are traveling or dining solo. No worries.
Don’t be put off by the strip mall location. You will be very pleasantly surprised. Check ‘em out.

The Fried Turtle Pie is a must try. Not had anything of that sorts in the NOVA area before.

The food was great. The service was exceptional. New pipes every time you visit. We arrived there around 7pm and left around 10pm. Loved the time we spent there. I will definitely be back.

This place is great! We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday night and we had the whole place to ourselves but that only added to the experience as my group of three were all first timers. The staff was very accommodating and went through different drink, food and hooka selections with us, answering all of our questions. Our waiter, Moe, could not have been any better!
Around 9pm the place began to fill up but we had already finished eating at that point and were enjoying our drinks, hooka and the music.
We will be going back and I suggest you check it out! I highly recommend the lamb shank, the butterbean hummus, blackened catfish poboy, and curry chicken wings! See you there!

The service was excellent, the food spectacular, and the hookah was fabulous. I can’t get enough. A visit to both the DC and Herndon locations suggested, but the Herdon location is a must for the food and crazy hookah set ups by the ‘Hookah Architect’. :-)

I am very particular about my hookah bars. I have tried many but nothing compares so far.
The staff has been on top of their game every time — fresh coals, drinks refreshed, checks promptly. The drinks and hookahs are reasonably priced for the area. Their Happy Hour is fabulous.
This is a good spot to saddle up with classy experience.

Unilocalers, this place is the real deal. Don’t let the name fool you, this is not just another hookah lounge. Don’t let the location fool you, this is not in any way just another Sphinx. Under new ownership and a brilliant chef with 15 years of experience, Nomad combines the best of the hookah lounge atmosphere with a true fine dining experience.
Not into hookah? The state of the art smoke eaters will have you enjoying your Burger a la Dave Conn without any idea that the person next to you is puffing on some Starbuzz Melon. I would bring my mother here.
However, this isn’t just any old burger at a bar. His patty consists or certified angus short rib and brisket which he cooks on a flat top and bastes in butter. Out of this world. Flavorfully crispy on the outside and succulently tender and juicy on the inside. Not to mention the sharp american cheese and the toasted brioche bun… I could go on for days about it but then I would miss the chance to tell you about the tandoori wings (perfect) and the big buttery grilled cheese he serves with a powerfully spiced tomato soup. And these are just the American items on the menu, I plan on trying more of the Mediterranean and North African themed items on the menu when I go back. The food is good, trust me.
On top of all that, Nomad has a friendly atmosphere with staff who go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The facility is much cleaner than what it used to be under Sphinx’s owner. Oh, don’t expect to see underagers lingering about either, this place assumes a much classier demeanor. Essentially, Chef Dave Conn and the other owner I haven’t met yet have transformed this location into quite the Herndon oasis. Stop in for a drink and try some of the food, you won’t regret it.
