Been here twice. Won’t be back again. Over priced. Not much meat in the sandwich. Chopped beef potato cover with cold pre chopped brisket. Pretty sad.

The folks here are rude and have the 2 family packs on the menu and wouldnt serve us the one we wanted. If you dont offer it, take it off your menu. We left and went elsewhere.

I’ve been eye-balling this bbq spot since May or June. One day, walked in and then decided against bbq and walked out. Then on THISDAY I had a taste for BBQ and decided to take a stroll across the street during lunch. Judging from the lengthy lines, this place seems to get a lot of business. So here we go!!! When I’m about to try a new BBQ place, I always start with their stuffed potato. That’s how I play it safe. See, by getting the bake potato, you’re pretty much getting a potato along with a meat sampling. I feel, if you can get me with the stuffed potato, I’m not going to order a full BBQ meal. Needless to say, I ordered a turkey(healthy me) stuffed potato with sauce on the side. The sauce was good(which doesn’t always happen), but the potato and the turkey was dry. So, I guess I will continue to journey further down Westheimer to my original bbq spot!

Dry brisket. Smothered in bbq sauce made it palatable, but I wouldn’t go back. Good sides. Overall poor.

Good was not good at all… Gave three stars for Drive thru accessibility. Bbq sauce was horrid they gave me bread that wasn’t toasted and cashier seemed hurried. Coleslaw was tasteless. In seasoned meat. Will not return.

First time .will def be going back. Phenomenal sausage and baked potato. Not a big fan of BBQ but this plates hits the spot. I would give papas BBQ a 2 star compared to this

Portions too small. I can’t remember leaving a BBQ joint hungry. Brisket was average at best and dry, and the regular sausage was average. The sauce was tasty. Two clues should have made it obvious– no beer and no fried okra. I should have known . Clean place and nice décor for a strip center . Two meats, two sides, and a drink 16.78 — not worth the cost.

Surprisingly good. I’ve been craving barbecue for the longest and have yet to find a good spot in Houston. I was headed home and saw this place on Unilocal so I thought I’d give it a try. I automatically expected it to be mediocre and the building did not help my expectations. It’s in a mini strip mall location which isn’t where I’d expect to find good barbecue but mama always said never judge a book by it’s cover! I got the Brooks plate which came with sausage, ribs, brisket, and 2 sides for ~$ 14. A slice of texas toast and corn come complimentary with every dish so you’re really getting a lot for your money! The Meat: The brisket… omg. Perfectly tender if a little lacking in flavor. Definitely melt in your mouth variety. The sausage is just the right level of spicy. You can see the little jalepeño bits! Now the ribs? Perfection. It had a good hunk of meat on it just waiting to fall off the bone and into your waiting mouth. My biggest complaint is that you only get 1 rib. Like c’mon?! That’s the whole reason I got the plate! The Sides: Normally corn in the cob in restaurants is pretty bland if not outright disgusting but the corn here is good enough that you’ll wish you’d gotten 2 pieces. You get about 1 cup of the other sides. Again, big protions. The potato and cheese casserole was really good. A little dry on top, probably from the heating lamp, but once you get past that? You’re in starchy heaven. The green beans were really disappointing. They’re the only thing here I didn’t like and I didn’t even eat more than 2 bites. First, they’re unappetizingly wrinkled from sitting under the heat lamp. And the taste. don’t know how to describe it other than bleh. Atmosphere: The restaurant is clean and open which could get loud during a crowd. It was empty when I went a couple hours after the lunch rush though so I’m speculating. Two pet peeves: they had the radio and the TV volume up so you couldn’t really listen to either one. And there was a huge trash can on wheels sitting in the middle of the floor. Overall, would definitely visit again.

Meh. I had a brisket po-boy with fries. Nothing special. I would say this is a solid place for medium BBQ. Others in the party said runny Mac and cheese and the meat was dry. The potato salad was crazy good. Will I come back? Not for a 12 lunch(on the cheap side).

I dove in here for a quick lunch. I had time only for a brisket sandwich. It was good, they do a nice job on the trimming — removing much, but not all of the fat. I like the fact that they don’t offer multiple versions of sauce — only one and its got a little kick. It was very good, but the brisket could stand on its own as well. Very busy for lunch. Appears to be a lot of regulars and cops — always a good sign.

It’s really rare that I give a bad review but it happens. Not for sure if the owners changed but the food has. The food seemed watered with no flavor. The mac and cheese threw me for a loop because it was like they just use a butter sauce and no cheese. Never had brisket that gave such a fatty texture. And the sweet potatos/yams were bland. Hopefully this was just a bad batch of food for the day but it will be a long time before I return.

I ordered to go after finding the place on Unilocal… It was around 8 on a Wednesday evening when we walked in… The dining room was empty but 2 people had just ordered Togo right as we entered and there was an order or two in the drive through… I checked out the menu… Prices are on the high side… I ordered 2 Brooks plates(I think that’s what it was called) it was a platter of beef brisket, sausage, and ribs with your choice of 2 sides and corn. We also ordered half a chicken because my mom thought it wouldn’t be enough food… Portions were pretty small and they cut the sausage Very thin… But it was really good! The beef was dry but not disgustingly dry… I don’t know how to explain it but I actually didn’t mind it… Especially if you add a little BBQ sauce. We got regular sausage but they also have jalapeño… Nice flavor as well a little kick and even better with sauce. The ribs were awesome… Small but lots of flavor! For sides we got potato salad, cole slaw, and fried okra… And corn on the con too! I enjoyed the potato salad… Cole slaw was ok and the fried okra was great! Especially for being Togo… The okra tasted fresh, wasn’t too greasy, and stayed crispy for a long time! We also purchased a loaf of what appeared to be home made bread… Food was great! Service was exceptional as well… They were really nice and patient! I would most definitely return when in the area… And id recommend it too!

Online ordering not totally on the up and up. They didn’t have a few things in store that they said they did online. When you place your order online they asked if you wanted it asap and I checked that box but they still called asking when I wanted order because they said it wasn’t listed? Sounds like they might want to rework their online system. The BBQ itself was average, but I had been craving a chopped beef baked potato, and it was tasty enough. My veggie beau was happy with his sides, but nothing was outstanding enough to stand out.

This place did the job. I was hungry and tried some of just about everything. It felt like I was in Dickies thought, kinda looked the same with a different name. It also had free ice cream which Dickies does for the kids. I am still on the hunt for a real authentic texas BBQ house. The search continues.

I came in for lunch and was quickly greeted by several employees. They have great service and very friendly. I ordered the brisket sandwich because the prices are a little steep. Sandwich was $ 7.04 w/tax. Meat: Brisket was dry and lean, not much flavor or very memorable. Bread: it was ok and fresh. Sauce: the bbq saucy was very tasty. I only had the brisket. I may try other items next time.

This place is nice inside and the food is good. When I walked in the place, I asked each customer if the food is good and they all gave me the thumbs up. I was a little surprised with the small portion of meat on my sliced beef sandwich. The popular competition serves a larger portion. It’s still fair and good tasting. I was most impressed with the clean restaurant and good music and the good tea. I just love BBQ and counrty music. We will be back again for our $ 10 lunch.

Pappa’s BBQ is closest to my office in Westchase and a good venue. But, I wanted to try something different and Brookstreet is quite close too. Parking can be tough during peak time but you usually don’t wait too long. Interesting when you walk in that the dining is quite large and you walk all the way to the back to order. I ordered the Texas Plate, which was beef brisket slices and sausage(I opted for jalapeño). I asked to ensure they had fatty(moist) brisket and they did. It was very good. It’s not as flavorful as Goode’s or even Rudy’s, but it’s top notch in terms of juiciness and the flavor isn’t blank — just not as bold as I prefer. The jalapeño sausage was good to boot. Texas-buttered toast was good. The sides were average for me as I ordered mac/cheese and mixed veggies. Too bland for my taste but edible. I’ll go back. I think I prefer Pappa’s to them, but I certainly did enjoy Brookstreet overall.

It’s been said that you can get the same plate of BBQ at every BBQ restaurant in in Houston. I am finding that to be the case. It’s not that familiarity is bad, it’s just that it’s nice to discover some of the subtle differences between BBQ places from time to time. I’m noticing that in Houston(compared to my previous home base of Austin) the BBQ places also sell hamburgers, fried chicken, catfish, etc. My problem is, any place that doesn’t fully commit to their genre of food is hard for me to trust or take seriously. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it appeared as if my Texas toast was added to my plate to be weighed, which again brings up my trust red flag. Turkey — moist, well cooked, it was a delicious bird and a good quality one at that. Brisket — it was decent, good smoke ring, not much if any crust, not much seasoning came through which is typical of most places in Houston Ribs — This was their best meat — well seasoned with a sweet but subtle after glaze. They were cooked just right so the meat had just enough cling to the bone still without falling off(vs. many other places around here where done is over done). Also, what is the deal with peanuts at BBQ places? I’ve been to 100+ BBQ joints and never seen this and now 2 in a row? Their soft serve was better than Papa’s BBQ soft serve. If you like BBQ ribs, this is worth a visit. This is the closest BBQ to my office so I expect and look forward to returning.

I had been meaning to try this place for quite some time and was very excited when I finally had the chance to do so. It’s very close to my office and my coworkers often come here for lunch and it makes our office smell so good and everyone’s mouth water. When I finally had the chance to try it, I went in and the staff were great. It was a slow afternoon which was nice so I was able to talk to them about the different plates and sides they offered. They even let me sample all their meats and sides before I decided what I wanted. I ended up getting the chopped beef and sausage potato. They sure do serve a generous portion, I had enough left over for about 5 meals(I have a rather small appetite, but still)! The barbeque was great and I will definitely be going back!
