Nothing fancy. Good fries and tasty burger. Service was quick.

I have been coming to this place since high school. This is the place to go if you want a yummy, greasy, good old fashioned burger. This place makes you feel like you are at someone’s privately owned restaurant and not a chain. Located across from the high school there is never a shortage of families and kids.

I’m a little biased as I’ve been coming to Southwell’s since I was in high school so there are memories attached. The food is very solid and always filling. I typically get the mushroom swiss burger and add jalapenos with a side of sweet potato fries. Such a simple meal and I’m always so satisfied! The service is great and the staff is always extremely friendly. I’d recommend if you’re in the area looking for a great burger!

Gave this 4 stars for the burger. Very good. Chili cheese fries weren’t that good. Seemed a little bland. Good customer service though. Also, the place was very clean. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger.

I’ve been to a few burger joints and this one kind of had a 60’s feel to it. They were playing oldies and it was packed around lunch time. I had their hickory burger with fries. Nothing special about it and it was ok. The fries were the same. I wasn’t all too impressed with the food, but it wasn’t bad either. If you’re tired of five guys, or smash burger, this is a good place try a different burger. I would eat here again to try the other stuff.

When I was a child, I used to come here all of the time with my parents. Now, this is the first time I’ve visited in several years, and I have found that much has changed. What I remembered as having been their signature item, homemade lemonade, seemed to not be so signature anymore. While this is not a problem, I looked for other things that would make this location stand out.
Location: (⁴⁄₅) Located across the street from Memorial High School, this restaurant takes on an old diner-​feel. It reminds me of a new and redone version of Prince’s hamburgers, though I must say Prince’s were much better. In theory, the restaurant is great for kids to come to and hangout with their friends after football games and what not, but for an older crowd, I’m not sure what to look for when coming in.
Service: (⁴⁄₅) The girls at the register were super nice when I approached the counter, all smiles, super friendly, and appearing to really enjoy their job. They offered suggestions on the menu, even readily describing the ingredients of what I was looking for. After taking our order, I immediately checked in here on Unilocal,and was asked the traditional check in questions, specifically, ‘Do they have wifi?’ I thought this interesting, running low on my cellular data for the month, so I asked the cashier, «Do ya’ll have wifi?» She said, «Yes! I’ll get you the password.» I stood awkwardly to the side of the counter for a few moments while she scrambled to look for it, but turned up empty-​handed. She saw my discomfort of standing off to the side of the line of guests, so she offered to bring the password to my table. I sat down at my table, and never saw her or the prospect of using their wifi again.
Food: (2−3÷5) As a big fan of Grub Burger’s OMG Chili Burger, I had hoped to find a burger with similar taste when I ordered Southwell’s Chili Burger (only $ 5.95), however, the chili was a little less than warm, and just didn’t have the rich, mouth-​watering, appeal I had hoped for. Perhaps it was the lettuce that had been added in, which I felt didn’t belong. I felt the burger to be a bit bland, but certainly not as bland as I’ve had on other occasions. Nonetheless, the waffle fries were exquisite. The regular fries were not so great.
Overall experience: meh, I’ve had better. I do think though that this is definitely a nice place to come and relax or chat with an acquaintance, as long as you don’t mind the food not being super amazing.

Pleas be sure to double check your receipt because our order was wrung up wrong, and it took over 45 mins to get our order. I wouldn’t recommend coming here during peak times and the staff seems a bit uncoordinated.

I’m a purist when it comes to burgers. This is as simple and to the point as a great burger gets. Buttered plain grilled bun. ¹⁄₃ lb meat patty seasoned to perfection. Crisp lettuce. Cool tomatoes. Perfectly melted American cheese. Dab of mayo. Crisp onions. Slice of pickle. Nothing fancy just a great burger. Sweet potato fries are my preference but the hand cut skin on regular fries do the trick too. Family owned. Family loved. They are just as good as I remember them being when they were in tanglewilde off Richmond ave.

Came here looking for a nice grilled burger. That did not happen. Their burgers are not grilled. Resembles more like a deli burger you would get at an office. It’s not bad but it’s not great either. Its just ok. I would not come back or go out of my way to get another one again. Ordered waffle fries and onion rings hoping something would turn on that light bulb that says damn thats good but that didn’t happen. The only the place did was quinch my thirst but not my hunger. Their drinks were nicely iced down and I’ll give them an extra star for that. The staff are ok, but they could take an effort to be more greetrable. Off to another restaurant adventure.

New to neighborhood and heard good burgers, I ordered a cheese burger and onion rings. The onion rings were frozen out of bag, tough and one thin onion in then, very tough to chew and would not order again. The burger I thought would be thick and meaty but instead was the thin frozen meat that is bought. More like a Burger King quality meat, yuk! The bread was fresh as why it got the extra star. I was truly not impressed at all.

Some of the BEST hamburgers in town. Fast but good. Close to SBMS so great after school… or after event… meal. Super.

The burgers? Well, I haven’t eaten at a Burger King in about 6 years, but these taste very similar to what I remember. So, meh…
BE CAREFUL of the time you go! After the highschool across the road let’s out, teenager’s from hell come over! Very loud! Very annoying! And you’ll adopt a new word before you leave and put it between every other third word. Liiike totallly! «Like like like like like»! Ugh!

I love this place. An awesome burger OR grilled chicken sandwich. Always hot and perfect ingredients. Go here for a quality burger. Get the onion rings, I avoid the natural fries, not my favorite. Overall a perfect burger.

I had the cheeseburger on a whole wheat bun with a side of waffle fries. The burger was a good size, a little on the small side compared to other burger joints. Regardless it was juicy and hit the spot for $ 8. I’ll go back eventually but its nothing to call home about.

The burgers were awesome! Service not so much! This was my first visit and the order taker seemed bothered. I explained that this was our first visit and that didn’t change her mood at all. The fries were great however I would not recommend the waffle fried as the seasoning on those was a bit much. The ingredients were fresh and the order arrived quickly! I would pass on the blue ice slush as it was not sweet at all! Seating is limited and you order and then seat so lunch can be a bit chaotic. The two star rating was mostly for service. Food definitely surpassed average chain burger. Will I return, probably not.

I’m a bit of a burger freak, so it takes quite a burger to impress me. A good burger needs to be juicy, large (either thick or wide or both), and should not require excess toppings to taste good. It helps to have a spectacular bun.
Southwell’s burgers are just «okay.» I see no reason for anyone to brag about them. They were small and a bit overcooked. They taste like burgers, but they don’t bring a smile to my face. I seem to remember them tasting better here in the past. Maybe they’ve changed the burgers or maybe I’ve just become more difficult to please; likely a little of both.
The fries are okay.
Okay, so the place is okay — just not «a-​okay,» so I gave it two stars rather than three. I’ll eat here again when the people I’m with insist upon it, but I won’t be visiting it of my own accord.

The burgers here are overrated. They are basically an old fast food diner that is charging like the meals are more substantial. I get the impression that adults like this place more for nostalgia than actual quality.
It must get lots of business as a high school hangout, being in walking distance of the high school. It isn’t really competitive with other burger places in terms of quality, size and price. I wouldn’t recommend it but it is probably okay if it’s close to your house and you just want a snack or quick bite.

Their salads are mediocre, but what did I really expect?

This place is really good! The meat and seasoned well and portions are decent for the price. I ordered a bacon cheese burger and I split onion rings and cheese fries with a friend. My favorite was the onion rings, tasted like beer battered. The bacon was crispy on the burger and everything tasted great!

I’m not sure what I’m not seeing that lots of others do, but I think Southwell’s is sub-​par.
I haven’t actually ordered a burger for myself. The first time I had a generic grilled cheese, the second time I had the grilled chicken sandwich. The grilled cheese was standard white bread, american cheese… boring, but not surprising. The grilled chicken was slightly moist and had «peppercorn» as others claimed, but it was absolutely nothing to write home about.
I had bites of burgers both times and was kind of like… huh? What’s the big deal? I’ve had better fast food burgers. It’s not inedible, but it’s one of the lowest on my list. To top it off, the guy writing down orders seems to be distracted and prone to making mistakes. It’s one of those places I’d go only if I were desperate to eat out and couldn’t convince my coworkers to hit up Fuddrucker’s or Grub Burger. :/
