Got to give them 5 stars. The food is consistently great. It is an easy atmosphere and the service is excellent. Could the décor be a bit more upscale? Sure, but it keeps the place cosy. There are more upscale restaurants in the neighborhood but none of them serve better food than Sal D’s. I have not had a bad meal yet!

Husband and I stopped in one rainy week night. It wasn’t busy, but we had heard great things about the place. We ordered chicken francese, capellini bolognese, cheese ravioli, and a house salad. Everything was great! The pieces of chicken were of great quality. The only thing that makes me give it one star less than 5, is that we like the francese sauce better at another Italian restaurant. Definitely one of our top 2 favorite Italian places to eat!

I visited this restaurant with two coworkers for dinner in May 2015. It was my first time there and I thought the place was very nice inside. Linen table cloths and nicely decorated, clean and quaint. There is a small bar when you walk in by there is somewhat of a wall between the bar and dining room. It’s not a huge place. The service was very good and the food was delicious, even the bread on the table was soft and yummy. We had fried calamari which was very good. I ordered chicken francaise and it was absolutely delicious. Probably some of the best I’ve had. The portion is very big and I enjoyed every bite. I can’t recall what my coworkers are but their plates looked just as appetizing. We also sat there for quite a while talking without being rushed out, which was nice too. I highly recommend this place and look forward to going back. Also, they have a parking lot so you don’t have to worry about getting parking on the street.

Came here because we were looking for nice seafood in the area and other Unilocalers seemed to really enjoy this restaurant. The Unilocalers-love-us sticker by the door is always good to see too. My fellow Unilocalers were right on with all their stars. Sal D’s is a lovely place. We were in search of seafood, and the regular menu as a few fish dishes, but the specials menu was chock-full of fish. First things first — Every single staff member had a smile on their face. How refreshing to run into people who like their jobs. We had fried calamari appetizer — delicious. Nice light breading and plenty of marinara to dip… I would have liked spicier sauce, and I’m sure they would have accomodated, but my husband had devoured the plate before I had the chance to ask. My husband ordered the Mahi Mahi Oreganata, which kinda disappointed me, because that’s what I had chosen, and I have a thing against ordering two of the same entrée… The mahi mahi was delicious, broiled with crumbly bread over the top and a light lemon sauce — mixed veggies and a potato croquette. I settled on the Black Sea Bass al Forno, even though I generally stay away from the tomato-fish combo(unless its shellfish or calamari) I am soooo glad i did ! The al forno was to die for. 5 stars for this dish alone, the tomatoes were a compliment to the dish, didn’t take it over. We enjoyed 2 specials, one app — one glass of wine, one beer — under $ 100 including tip. CAN’T GOWRONG. I’ll be back — I hear the clams are awesome.

UG. Super chewy ‘chicken’ parm — could have been goat or cat. Sent it back and the young waiter had to ask the manager if it was OK to take off the bill. Wine selection was totally MEH, and the atmosphere was blah. With so many good Italian places in Huntington don’t waste your taste buds or money on this place. Had to go to Almarco the next night for chicken parm redemption.

Never had a meal at Sal D’s where any of us were disappointed. The baked clams are off the chart. Always fresh ideas on the specials menu that are delicious. Cozy and amazing staff across the board. No shortage of Italian options on LI, but you are missing out if you haven’t been here!

Recent trip in frigid LI, most happy they had heat. Anywaze… reality is if you stay open on LI for more than 5 years serving Italian, your gonna be 3 stars… yep 3 just for showing up. Anywaze, the décor is OK, place not too crowded that night, wait staff, attentive professional. Ordered artichoke appetizer… still searchin for a fresh stuffed Artie… like grandmas… still searchin, seems most places like to prepare ahead an nuke em… not sure why prep is quick on a fresh one… taste was spot on with a good lemon garlic sauce. Ordered bar pie, which is very solid, well executed, hot great sauce and great taste, me likie. Seafood rissotto was also solid performer, nice fresh seafood and plenty of it… risotto not executed up to Chef Ramsey standards but you’re too busy scoopin mussels and clams… Anywaze Sal… you’re a 3.5…that night… guess the doors stay open. I maybe coming back…

Walked in on the Friday night before Valentine’s Day and was expecting a wait but was nicely surprised that there was none. The waitress seemed a little overworked but pleasant enough. We started w the stuffed artichoke and I have to say it was the best one I’ve ever eaten at a restaurant. I loved it! So we went on to a pizza with onions which was awesome too! This is where the review gets wonky. We ordered the seafood risotto which I didn’t really care for. It was on the bland side and they did not use the right kind of rice for risotto. It was just your regular white rice which was over cooked and not too yummy. So just then, the waitress from the table behind me dumps a glass of red wine on my coat, pants and my cellphone! Total pandemonium! No not total but my coat was a light color and then it was red! So they offer to bring it to the dry cleaners the next day and comped ½ of our meal. Cool beans but my coat is going to take 2 weeks to get cleaned! Boo Hoo! Next time, no risotto, no red wine…

Good but not great. The décor leaves a lot to be desired. It’s pretty old in there. I had the veal pizziola and the caprice salad. My wife had a fish dish both were acceptable but not extraordinary. My sister and nephew both had the minestrone soup, shrimp Parmesan, and chicken Parmesan. Both were very salty. The minestrone soup was more like chicken soup than minestrone. All the dishes were very very salty. Truthfully I expected more considering the reviews.

Tried this restaurant based on all the good reviews. They were right. The food was delicious! Eggplant rollatine, Beet salad, shrimp fra diavolo, and tuna Au poivre, were mouth watering. Tomato sauce is top notch and very authentic. Service was ok, not great, but the staff was very nice. The food was so good, we’re hoping they’ll cater our next party. Thank you Sal D’s, we’ll be back.

Every time I’ve been here they put out excellent quality food. The menu is simple, and not over the top like some of these faux Italian joints that have been popping up. My group had the fried calamari, house salad, Bronzino, salmon, Baked ziti, and penne vodka — all were excellent and prepared to perfection. Highly recommended.

Saturday night we decided to check out this restaurant. The restaurant does not take reservations for small parties, but on the phone we were told the wait time would be only 10 minutes. Unfortunately, upon arrival we had to wait almost half an hour. The place is very family oriented, so if you are looking for a romantic place, this is not for you. While the service was relatively good, it took almost an hour for us to get our food. On the bright side, the food was very good. A blackened salmon was very juicy and well cooked, served with rice and a good amount of spinach. I would go there back, but maybe on a quieter night.

Always fresh, delicious Italian food. Some if my favorites here are the chicken parmigiana and the Caesar salad. They also have a great selection of wine!

Really fresh Italian food. Always a fan of their chicken francese, and baked artichokes. Somewhat pricey, but really yummy.

The food is amazing. I started with baked clams… wow the best around for sure. The. For my entrée I had rigatoni with vodka sauce, once again it was amazing! It seems like ever time I come back here and try something new I am amazed.

This is what you call a «safe» Italian restaurant, they aren’t pushing boundaries here in Halesite! It was dead empty at 4 pm when I went, an old lady had served my friend and I. We ordered the Shrimp Parmesan Hero which was $ 11, maybe $ 2 more than what you would usually pay for at a Pizzeria. It took quite some time for it to be cooked but once we got it I was surprised at the size of the hero. They had about 5 jumbo shrimps inside(most places have at least 6), and it wasn’t heavy on the sauce. This isn’t a place I would come out of my way for but if I happen to be in the area and craving Italian food i’ll stop by.

We were in town visiting family and they recommended Sal D’s. The wine selection was fantastic, the service outstanding and the food absolutely wonderful! I had the eggplant Parmesan and our company had the veal(name escapes me) but it came with sautéed red peppers and onions. We will go back every opportunity we can as we visit often. A true gem of a restaurant!

LOVE the margarita pizza for an appetizer. I usually order the Sol. It’s very tasty and has just the right amount of sauce. It’s usually very loud around 6. Next door they have Carvel. It’s perfect for kids after dinner.

With family living right down the street, I eat at Sal D’s often, and I am always happy with meals here. The ambiance is fairly casual with paintings and mirrors on the walls and brown paper over the tables, but the food is delicious in its simplicity. One of my favorite dishes here is the«clam soup» which is actually roasted clams in a white wine garlic broth similar to a mussels preparation. I also order the vongole pasta which is basically the same but with heaps of fresh al dente pasta. Other favorites are the bar pies(super thin crust pizzas), veal milanese and lasagna. We always order salads too, which are portioned large enough to share, and they consistently have a delicious specials menu.
