Took a large group of 40 for our appreciation dinner. The manager, Mary had the room set up and everything ready to go. Food was super. The college boys that were always hungry left this meal full and satisfied! This is the second time we have taken a college group here because of the great food and service!

The service here was attentive. The burnt ends were dry and lacked flavor and were disappointing, but the beef rib was juicy and flavorful. Cheesy corn and the beans get high marks. Pork ribs were dry as were the fries. The Cole slaw was excellent but I would definitely not recommend this place for overall quality and price.

My co-worker and I were in town for a few hours and noticed the outstanding reviews listed on Unilocal. We ordered the chef’s special and were not disappointed. In fact, we were pleasantly surprised by the quantify and quality. In summary, amazing food, great prices, and the burnt ends are truly one of a kind. 5 stars all around!!!

Meh that’s how my wife and I felt after eating at smokehouse the building itself is very nice. Except for the restrooms they look like they are imported from an old gas station. The food was okay not anything worth going out of your way for. Their sauce is pretty awful, ham reminds me of store bought lunch meat, turkey is kind of how I would imagine a canned turkey tasting. The brisket was delicious as long as it didn’t have the sauce on it, as well as the ribs. The only decent side is the hickory beans. Maybe someone can explain to me why you would mention pickles when it’s just two pickle chips from a jar? I would say if you a searching for some good bbq keep searching this is not what you are looking for.

Good food. Came to us fast, as if warmed up and sent out. Not bad for a franchise. Three Pigs in Blue Springs has better beans, but they are a non franchise vendor. Burnt end were good, but not: «Slap your mama» good. If you are into Chilis type resturants where everything tastes the same, no matter what State your in, this is your place for you. Myself, would rather take a chance on mom and pop places.

Wouldn’t go out of our way for this place. Waitress was nice, service was good. BB sauce tasted like canned pasta sauce rather than B B Que sauce! Crispy burnt ends were not crispy more like pulled pork and again the sauce was not good. Pretty pricey too.

FANTASTIC! This is the 4th Smokehouse Barbecue location that I have visited and I want to say I loved them every one. I have been a Smokehouse fan for the past 15 years. I have tried about everything on the menu and you can’t go wrong with whatever you order. The burnt ends are delicious, the skewered shrimp w/bbq sauce are great, the beans, the slaw, the cheesy corn, the deep fried corn nuggets, are all outstanding sides and appetizers. My MUSTHAVES are the Chefs Sampler Plate, and Texas Hot. If you have never tried the Texas Hot, you just don’t know what you are missing. ITISWHATREALMENEAT! Thank you Smokehouse for all of these years of consistently serving delicious bbq in a tastefully decorated atmosphere. ps-can we get one for us folks in Olathe?

I stopped by for a quick lunch. Had the BIG Crispy — chopped burnt ends on a toasted hoagie bun w/fries & baked beans. The sandwich was very good. Even though the meat was chopped, it still had that perfect balance of moist, tender beef & crispy, burnt bits we all love &EXPECT from burnt ends. The beans were above average & the fries were your typical, frozen from a bag but the good. Went great w/a KC Bier Co Dunkel! And their spicy bbq sauce was the way to go. Not too spicy, but just the right amount of kick w/that thick, sweet KC bbq sauce we all love! Heather the bartender gave excellent service & just moved here from Michigan. So sit in the bar & give here some Midwestern love! I’ll be back!

My husband I had dinner here before going to see the new Star Wars. It’s just ok. We really didn’t see our waitress that often and honestly wished we had gone to 54th Street. It’s not that the food was bad, though I prefer Bandanas, but it was so greasy and left us with a stomachache. I’m giving it three stars because overall it was clean and they were prompt with getting our food out on a busy Friday night. Also, the parking lot had plenty of spaces and is well lit. I don’t have any food recommendations though I can advice you against getting the appetizer platter. In fact avoid anything fried! Sorry for the so-so review! :(

I was disappointed. I was a fan of this BBQ place before but it tastes like the meat was just made in the oven with no seasoning and no smoke flavor. I hope visitors that come to Kansas City do not mistake this for authentic KCBBQ. For now I will only go to Jack stack or Gates

Had a taste for BBQ on a road trip and got there late – around 2 pm on a football game day. Take-out service was quick, and friendly. The ribs were dry and not hot – on a warming table too long? I was disappointed. The ribs back home in St. Louis are much better at several places. The sides, bbq beans and potato salad, were excellent. The sauce had too much strong tomato.

Real Kansas City BBQ at its best. The Burnt Ends are great. The sides are amazing beans, slaw and cheesy corn all top notch. Portions are large and i enjoy it every time.

With all of the BBQ available in Kansas City, it’s a miracle that this one still survives. We chose this restaurant specifically because of its proximity to Rally House. The plan was to eat dinner and then go buy some AL Central Division Champs gear. Luckily we had Rally House to look forward to after the train wreck we experienced at dinner. I’ll begin with the lone bright spot for this place: the service. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Our glasses were kept full and the server stopped by to check on us at just the right intervals. Now to the food: yuck. That’s all I can say. I ordered the Super Crispy sandwich on texas toast. It came out at first with the bread untoasted, but when asked they came back with some nicely toasted bread for me to move the meat to. This is when I began to realize we have a problem. If you’ve ever eaten burnt ends, you know that they have a crunch and are a bit crispy, hence the name, «Super Crispy.» The meat on my burnt end sandwich was chopped and I’m fairly certain it was beef, but there is not a possibility in this world that it was actually the«burnt end.» It was mush. It was gross. It was nearly inedible. Take a pass on this place. Go to Chili’s or even(GASP!) Applebees. Or if BBQ is what you need, make the drive down 470 and Jack Stack is waiting!

Excellent service, excellent beer and excellent food. This place really should have four or five stars. I think people are just mad because they’re paying more; but you get what you pay for right? The beer had a sweet and hoppy flavor that was the best I had and this is coming from someone who lived in Seattle. The sides of coleslaw, beans, cheesy corn and potato salad were all homemade sauces and they were not too sweet, they were perfect and just right. The dry rub smoke on the brisket and the ribs were out of this world. I have had barbecue in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and all over the world and this by far had a very unique and tasty smoky flavor. Yum!!! As for the service, we rolled up to the restaurant with 15 minutes to closing and they were more than accommodating and happy to seat us. Not only that, but they let us stay well after closing to finish our drinks and meal. There was never any pressure to leave and no one ever asked us to get out. In fact, the waitress and I had a very nice conversation about the amazing weather in the middle of winter. So if you’re planning on going to any other cheap rib places around town read this review and heed my advice. Go here. And no I don’t know anyone that works there, and I’ve never worked there. LOL.

Smokehouse Barbecue in Independence has one of the most beautifully decorated buildings of any bbq place I’ve visited. There is lots of wood lined, comfy booths, a lovely free standing fireplace and a gorgeous, huge stained glass skylight. But following a visit for dinner with Hubby after attending a movie nearby, we were reminded as to why it had been several years since our last visit. When it comes to barbecue in the Kansas City metropolitan area, there are a whole lot of barbecue restaurants that we like better… one just up the street, even. Hubby ordered the Super Crispy sandwich, described on the menu as: Chopped burnt end sandwich on a toasted French roll with beans and fries. It was, indeed, chopped meat but I’m skeptical as to it’s relationship to actual burnt ends. Hubby was not impressed with the beans either but piled all the beef that fell out of his bun into them«to try and improve their boring taste»… with only lackluster results. I chose my Junior Smokehouse sandwich because I wanted to have two types of meat, but the way they serve their sausage at Smokehouse is to slice it into very thin slices, rendering it rather tasteless and the beef I paired it with was good AND tender but totally dominated the flavor over the sausage. I also forgot to ask for it to be served dry and the sauce was doing it’s best to play a starring roll and also made the bun kind of mushy for the last few bites. My sandwich came with coleslaw and fries. Both respectable sides but nothing very memorable about either. On the plus side, our server Kori was very cheerful and helpful. Indeed, every person we encountered during our visit was nice and seemed to be glad we were there. But you know it’s not a good sign for another visit soon, when most of our table talk was about all the other places, near and far, that we could have gone to instead of where we were.

I was out shopping and decided to stop for BBQ. I’d not visited Smokehouse for years. I was with my mom. We split the baby back robs ½ plate. We requested 2 plates. We didn’t get 2 plates, so I requested a second time. We finally got the second plate. The ribs were pretty good. I’ve had better(Jack Stack’s, LC’s.) The French fries were regular, nothing special. I’d pass on the fries. The ribs were juicy, the BBQ sauce, salty, but sweet. All in all, kind of boring, but okay. It’s close. The only real BBQ between Independence 39th street and LC’s. The service, fair. Not my favorite, but I might return.

Still above average, juicy, smoked chicken at the same price… and the world’s best beans! Smoked chicken enchiladas tomorrow night!
