A classic place and taste of summer! We hit this spot every year when we drive up North to open our lake house for the season. We always get the same thing, onion rings, burgers, curds and root beer. They we take our fat asses up to Oconomowoc and start unpacking. We say we burn off all the calories by unloading the SUV. Ha! Places like this with their greasy goodness are one of life’s simple pleasures.

Has been getting crappy over the last few years. They cut way back on cheese and bacon for their burgers. Now, when I bite into a cheeseburger it has the same consistency of a McDonald’s burger. Everything just kinda mushes together. They have other food of course, but I don’t go there for that. If I want a good burger I’ll go somewhere else.

Big Star is my second favorite drive-in burger place. Everything is just as greasy and delicious as you would expect, it’s just that big star is on the opposite side of town than we live on. I will say the prices at big star are very reasonable and the service is good.

Great local drive in, I’ve had everything on this menu and it is a great drive in. Friendly service even when the lot is full. It is only open in the summer so don’t miss out!

I understand why they’re only open for a limited time during the year. It’s a gimmick honestly, they make crappy burgers with Velveeta cheese. I’m sorry! I just feel as though this restaurants like this make Kenosha the Pawnee, Indiana(yes parks and recreation pawnee indiana lol) of Wisconsin. So mediocre and greasy.

This place would be great if they were open after bar close, then you wouldn’t care about the grease soaked mess you are dining on. Slow service and lowest possible quality. Culver’s, Ron’s, Spot, Andy’s, pretty much ever other place is better.

Classic cheeseburgers that have you coming back for more. If your a resident or a visitor this is a must stop. Big Star is closed during the winner and opens from spring til end of summer. It’s good to the point where everyone freaks out and updates their status that they are going to Big Star.

Always great food to be found here, with friendly staff. Do yourself a favor and eat at an authentic drive in!

This place has the best burgers. It’s only open for a short time during the year(spring and summer) and it’s always busy. Originally called Washington Road Drive In, it changed it’s name to Big Star in 1959. When you get there you pull into a space and a car hop comes to take your order and brings a tray to your window. You have the option to sit on a picnic table and walk up to the window to order and you can also get it to go. They only take cash which some times is a little inconvenient but I know they do it to cover their butts. Their burgers are topped with either Velveeta cheese or Cheese Whiz. Not too sure. Their food is always hot. Fries are always crispy and you can order them with a side of cheese. Who can’t go wrong with more cheese? It’s cheap, quick and a little greasy. The car hops are always pleasant. Also if you like root beer you can get it in a frosted mug.

Best burgers in town! Hands down! Wish it were open year round but maybe that is what makes everything here so special! When it first opens up for the summer it does get a bit crazy and hard to find a spot at the drive in but well worth circling the lot a few times till something opens up! Oh yeah and the cheese fries are a must have with any meal! BOOM!

A kenosha tradition longer than I’ve been alive. Good food, reasonable pricing, and nostalgia that you can’t get anywhere else. I don’t understand the haters giving one star and nothing but snarky comments. Pay them no mind.

If you want to die fat, diabetic and alone, this is the place for you. Overhyped, overpriced drive in food, no different from the spot, except not open all year. Tried it for my first time after getting tired of hearing how good it was from folks and not surprisingly, was disappointed. Don’t waste your time.

Good, classic drive-in with solid burgers and cheese curds.

In Kenosha, you are either a Big Star fan or a Spot fan. Northsiders typically favor Big Star and the Southsiders favor the Spot. The Spot tried and failed to open a place on the north side… No dice Spot. I’ll preface my review with the fact that I grew up here and Big Star has a huge nostalgic impact for me. I remember going to the bike races in the summer over at Washington Bowl(velodrome) and walking over to Big Star for a cone or a burger. I remember driving to Big Star in high school for lunch once it opened for the season(even though The Spot was closer) That being said, Big Star is the quintessential American Drive-In. The menu is still posted above where you drive in. You expect someone from Happy Days to stroll through the parking lot. The food. well. you could probably get better burgers at lots of places, but not with the same ambience. And the double cheese burger is actually pretty damn good(not great mind you, but pretty damn good, get it with everything). They still serve the same crinkle cut fries they have been serving for 50 years. Honestly, the food is at best a 3 to 3 ½ star experience. Part of the reason I love the double cheeseburger is the nostalgia. But if you look at the total package here, it’s 4 star stop…

Always a good time at big star. Me and friends will make a twenty five plus mile drive simply to have dinner or lunch here. It’s that good. Just avoid one server. I’ve uploaded a photo of her. Anytime she takes our order it’s gotta be repeated multiple times and eyes generally inattentive and she doesn’t seem to care. Otherwise I’ve always had a good time here. Coming here for years now.

Not a bad drive in. Nothing spectacular but the food is decent. The usual fare of burgers, fries, onion rings, dogs soda and ice cream. I had a cheeseburger, fries and root beer float. They were all satisfactory but nothing memorable. If I am in the area for a quick burger I would stop in.

Not a bad place for some cheap, greasy food. It’s a drive in, so you park your car and they come out and take your order. We got the cheese curds, cheeseburger, fish sandwich(I believe it’s cod), cheese fries, and a pretzel. The curds were delicious as was the fish sandwich. What really turned me off was the pretzel though. It was so frickin hard I could barely chew it. Not even a side of cheese sauce could save it. The service was great, nice waitress(?) who brought out our food in a timely fashion.

This is my favorite place to visit in the summer! Don’t go to the rival The Spot. Big Star is awesome with their burgers with that yummy cheese. Fries are really great, too! The food always comes to the car hot and fresh. Rootbeer is a must with this meal.

Overrated in my opinion. Only open a few months throughout the year, so people freak out when they open for the season. Just ok food, nothing special here.

This is the ULTIMATE drive in. The spot has nothing on Big Star! Get the double cheeseburger with everything. It includes grilled onions that will make you feel like a you need a shower when you’re done but it’s SO worth it.
