We arrived at about 6:50pm. It was dark out and the building was dark. we really weren’t sure if the pace was open. After debating the operational status of the place we ventured in. We were greeted by a waitress who was almost shy(?) She wasn’t very friendly, but then she wasn’t off-putting either. We decided to split the chicken fried steak and eggs since we weren’t starving. Our food arrived a shirt time later and we were pleasantly suprised the cook had all ready split our plate for us. We really appreciated the kind consideration and refreshing customer service. Kudos to both waitress and cooks. The food. The meal was satisfactory. The biscuits tasted microwaved. But the rest was was pretty good. On the whole we were pretty happy with this restaurant.

I’m going to start off by saying that the food was really good. Our waitress, Kayla, was very attentive, and seeing as she had many other tables that she was serving, my wife and I tip our hats to her. Nothing bad to say about the customer service or the food. HOWEVER, there were a few things that were neglected during our time, such as the bathrooms which were in disarray. I do not want to mention all of the problems, because they should not turn you off to this place. What I WILL say, is that this restaurant is extremely understaffed. During a lunch rush, with 10 or more tables, Kayla was the only waitress serving. They had one bus boy, and my guess is two cooks. If this place gets as much business as we saw today, it deserves to have more staff to facilitate the space. Otherwise, there will inevitably be things that are neglected, and that will end badly for everyone, including your customers. Again great service, good food. But get some more staff, for goodness sake.

Stopped there only to have a quick break from driving and get some iced tea for my hubby, so we can’t attest to the quality of the food, but the employees were very nice and bathrooms clean! :) We were going to pay for the tea with a card, but because it was less than $ 5 they were not able to run it and told us we can have the tea for free. It was so nice of them, we ended up looking and finding enough quarters to pay for our tea + tip :)

Tea and soft drink. Good size. $ 2.10. Breakfast all day. Chicken fried steak and eggs. $ 9.75. Country potatoes, which was nothing more than potatoes O’Brien. Wife enjoyed it a lot, esp the biscuits. I got Lawrence«omelet». ham, green peps, onions, two cheeses and mild salsa. $ 9.50. Looked more like a scramble. No big deal. Bean soup. cup $ 4.75. Seriously, a cup of beans? Clam chowder in Morro is mostly $ 3.95/cup at most restaurants. It was good, but… for all with tax $ 30.49 for two peeps. Big portions. Everything good. Lots of «bread» choices. White, wheat, sourdough, english muffin or biscuit. I got muffin. Wife got biscuit. She was sure it was homemade and loved it. Beans were cooked, no hard ones. Needed a little something, like a smoked ham hock or something, esp for the price of a cup, but still ok. «Country» potatoes perfect, one side crispy, inside soft and fluffy. No under-cooked ones. Neither one of us could finish everything. Unfortunately case of diarrhea next day for me. Did not like the tv tuned to political Hillary Clinton crap. Next time we’ll asked to be seated away from the tv. Website for motel says room service. This is DEFNOTTHECASE. Not from here, nor anywhere we could tell, tho there may have been a pizza menu in the lobby I didn’t see it till I was standing outside in the cold next day waiting for for them to open for«continental». No reflection on Lawrence, just saying. Lawrence does offer carry out, but there is no menu in the room to call in your order! It would be nice. If this place just hired a runner to take food to the rooms they’d proly make a killing, and if I was closer, I’d apply for the job.

Quick stop off the 101 we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered Chili, salads and a burger. Everything was fresh and tasty. Friendly service to boot.

Found this place quite by accident… and a happy accident it was! Was making a quick drive from Nipomo to my aunt’s house, in Cupertino, and was starving. Needed some food to go on top of the coffee I’d been sipping for the last 2 hours. Came in, and had a vague sense of foreboding, as there seemed to be less than 4 diners and the staff outnumbered the customers. It turns out that I had little to fear, as I got my breakfast shortly after I ordered(steak and eggs), and everything was nearly perfect! I was totally blindsided in a very pleasant way! The wall in front of the dining counter was especially captivating, with some ‘olde style’ drawings from a fairy tale book… I LIKED it! The service was good, the food was better and the prices were very reasonable! This is definitely going to be a regular stopover!

We live in King City and eat here a lot. Lawrence(the owner) is the cook, and he used to be the cook here when it was Keefers. Every once in a while they have an off day, but the majority of the time we enjoy our food and experience. It is family run, so usually there is only one server. If your check doesn’t come right away, just walk up to the register to pay. Some of our favorite dishes are: The onion rings(the best anywhere, and a huge serving), the strawberry shortcake is the best, their soups are really good(my favorite is on Thursdays the Cream of Turkey, and on Tuesdays the Cream of Tomato). Their salads are wonderful and huge! Their sandwiches are good, as well as their breakfasts. This is not a five-star establishment in Beverly Hills. It’s just a family owned restaurant with good, homemade food, large portions and good prices. We like it!

The food was average. We had a hamburger and it was good size. The French dip that we had was a little overdone. Service was subpar probably since the hostess/waitress/checker was tending to her 2 yr old that was at the restaurant. I am really glad that I didn’t see the following until we were leaving. We went to pay our bill and the waitress that had been serving us was popping a pimple on her husbands(?) face right in the restaurant. I could not believe what I was seeing!

Food was pretty good. I had waffles and my SO had the biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs. My waffles weren’t real crisp but the flavor was yummy. His eggs, hash browns, and steak was good. The gravy was lacking a bit. The service was friendly and attentive. I’d come back again.

Very friendly service. I have allergies and they made adjustments to accommodate without charging extra for the substitutions. If I lived closer I’d come here more often =)

Although this restaurant was totally empty and only had one server, we had a good experience. The waitress was attentive and food came out as requested and prepared well. Not sure I’d rate it the best meal we ever had but it wasn’t the worst.

We stopped in for lunch. Waitress was quick to seat us and get the drinks and order placed, then it went downhill from there. It’s didn’t go downhill fast, everything went slow. The place was not full when we walked in, after sitting for quite awhile, we started to realize that many tables full of people sitting around us were not eating, everybody starting to look progressively hungry and puzzled why nothing was coming out of the kitchen. While the waitresses appeared to be trying, an explanation would have helped. Tell us something, don’t wait for us to ask twice for an estimate when the ordered food might make an appearance. When the food started coming out, there seemed to be no thought to who got what, some customers who just sat down were eating well before others that had to be waiting for at least half on hour. Some tables(6 – 9 people) only received parts of the order. We waited for over 40 minutes before a cold tuna melt and a extremely poor chili burger came out. The salads were better than expected, fresh, good size and good dressings. Management of the place seemed non-existent.

I came here to try to have lunch just now. I had a long weekend up north for a convention. When I came in, no one seated me, so I sat at the counter. 5 mins, no menus or anything. I got myself one. Waited for someone to come over, and no one did. This lady with a kid delivered food to the two guys next to me about 15 minutes later and didn’t even bat an eye at me. I finally got someone to look at me and she sort of nodded at me dismissingly. I would give negative stars if I could. I am also very angry right now because I am starving.

Stopped by for breakfast. I really enjoyed the pancakes. Bacon was fine. Eggs were mediocre, but I enjoyed my meal otherwise. I will probably come back next time I’m in town.

For a place to go on the way from a long drive, it’s fine. If I had to eat there on a regular basis, I would not be satisfied. The food was average as was the service. My son and I shared a good laugh when we were watching an Animal Planet show on their TV and the server, decided she was sick of nature, walked in front of us and put on something else… I think it was a monster truck mud race. The eggs were good enough and it’s next to a gas station so what the heck… 3 stars! :)

We made a pit-stop here at dinner time on a drive from the Bay Area to San Luis Obispo. This location used to be Keefer’s, which was a landmark. The food was tasty(breakfast is served all day), cooked up without delay, and relatively inexpensive. The service was friendly and attentive. I ordered an evening coffee and they brewed a fresh pot. The décor is functional but still a work in process. We will definitely make this our stop of choice traveling 101 through this area.

We had breakfast here while on a road trip down 101. We ordered two omelets and they came quickly. Lots of fresh ingredients, proper hash browns and toast. Service was attentive and everything was clean. Two issues: –The TV was annoying to us as we are not accustomed to TV’s relentless noise –The coffee was hot but bland. We would eat here again if we got the chance.

Stopped to eat here on a road trip from the bay area to Pismo. We were getting breakfast next door when we decided to try it out. It was very empty but it had just opened 30 minutes prior to our arrival. There was a group of 6 of us service was excellent! Very friendly and didn’t write anything down but it was perfect. I tried the biscuits and gravy which were tasty just wished they hadn’t run out of sausage patties.
