Pup Scrub

So angry! We scheduled a grooming appointment for our new mini poodle. She had some mats on her shoulders and chest from her time in the pound (possible her previous owner kept her in a harness, we think), so we expected some shaving needed to happen. The woman groomer said she would have to shave everything, including my dog’s face and legs, even though they didn’t have mats.
I asked if maybe she could leave the legs not shaved, because our puppy gets very cold and I was worried about her in the winter even in a jacket.
The woman actually said to me, «Well, I can’t let the dog leave with only half a shave, it would look ridiculous and that would reflect bad on me.»
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I’m suppose to care about what you think my dog looks like, as opposed to caring about if my dog is cold in the middle of winter? I’m not making this up, she really said that! No one is even going to know she shaved my dog, and it’s what I asked for and what is best for the dog. This woman even had the nerve to act offended that I cared more about my dog’s health than her. WOW!
We are taking our dog elsewhere, and recommend everyone else do the same. This lazy woman was trying to get $ 70 for a 5 minute total shave job that would have left my dog freezing in the cold for absolutely no reason. Completely ridiculous.

I hope to speak to the owner of Pup Scrub because I honestly want to believe that they do not know how their employees treat customers. I arrived at the front door 6 minutes before closing. The door was locked, but an employee walked over and opened it a crack to greet me. I explained I needed a nail trim for my two adolescent labs. She said she was closing out the register and couldn’t do it. I explained that I had a Pup Scrub pre-​paid card, but the employee spent the next 2 minutes explaining that they were closed and that they always locked the doors right at six. I pointed out that even after all of her explaining, it was still only 5:56, not yet 6pm. She opened the door briskly and began muttering under her breath about me arriving at that time. She took my first dog back and seemed to have scared my 8-​month old pup (the second dog) with her emotional state because he growled and Unilocaled at her when she moved toward him. She said she would not trim the second dog’s nails because she didn’t know «what was wrong with him; if he was a puppy or what.» I said it was ok that she didn’t trim the second dog’s nails, because honestly, she was scaring me a little bit with her attitude, too. As I was paying her for the one nail trim she suggested that I come in on the weekend, not on a week night after I get home from work. I left; walked down the block to my car; secured the doggies in and then checked the time. It was 6:02. Even with all of the time she spent protesting and muttering, I was still out her hair by the official closing time.
I am still in shock about this employee’s rudeness. I have tried to refrain from salacious wording here, but I would not any business I owned to have employees like that.
I like that Pup Scrub is in my neighborhood, but very disappointed with their customer service.
Do I give them 1 star because the employee did not cause my dog to bleed during the nail trim? I guess I have to give at least 1 star to get this narrative posted.

I love this place! The staff is super friendly and the lady that cuts nails is super sweet with my pup. I have a 100lb black lab and it’s so nice to not have his hair in my bath drain and all over the walls when he shackes off during and after his baths!!!

If you think Pup Scrub is not for you, let me tell you about going to Tia’s and Boo Boo Boutique. At each of those «wonderful» dog spas I paid over $ 80+ and got very ordinary grooms. One even included a trim «burn.» At Tia’s you have to leave your dog for about 3 hours and every service seems to come with an additional $ 5 fee. The Boo Boo blueberry facial and foot soak didn’t compensate for a very ordinary groom. Even though you think you’re getting the best, you may not. All places have their off days. At least Pup Scrub is priced well and they honor time appointments.

For anyone who is considering a haircut for their dog at Pup Scrub, be forewarned as it is still difficult to calm down after the botched job the groomer provided for my bichon frise. I specifically asked half inch off his hair as would assumingly suggest a light trim. Seems simple right? Nope!
First I return back disturbed that my dog is locked in a small black cage and there are two huge dogs trying to break in while they are pulling my dog out. I told the lady working there «can we not have this huge dog trying to attack my dog?» Seriously? Totally oblivious to what’s happening. Then the groomer who somehow determined that half an inch constitutes shaving down to the bare skin of my dogs ass… and it gets even worse. Not only is it shaved to the bare skin but it’s in different spots up and down my dogs legs and looks aweful. I honestly don’t know how this business is successfully operating. The icing on the cake was the exorbitant price of 65… plus a tip! It’s a dog that weighs 13 pounds and was supposed to have a light trim, which ended up looking hideous. What the hell are they thinking? I recommend this place to noone and hope all reading this post will consider never allowing your pet to go through what my poor dog has just endured. I attached a photo. Hopefully the chaffing, rash, and cuts will go away shortly.

This is a review for the groomers. Overall, I recommend them if you live close & have a dog that requires a simple haircut or want a quick nail trim. I originally tried them out because they are so much closer to me than my current groomer since I’ve moved, and spending the day up north to wait for my doggy to get a haircut isn’t too fun.
They earned 2 stars for the following: being very quick (was done in just under an hour and a half), great location since I just have to walk downstairs to get there, and they did a very nice job on his toenails. His haircut around his head and ears was also done well. They were also friendly despite the fact I couldn’t hear them over the dryer and had to ask for multiple repeats of things told to me thanks to headphones ruining my hearing! My dog was a little stressed afterward, but he recovered fairly quickly.
As for why the only earned 2 stars:
My dog came back with razor burn on his belly & inner thigh which I wasn’t informed of while I was at the groomer. On top of that, his hair cut was very lopsided, and a couple weeks later after giving it a chance to grow out, he still has deep indents in the middle of what is intended to be a fluffy area. I had originally thought this may have been due to me not describing his haircut very well (he is a toy poodle, after all!), but even if that were the case the fact the hair is noticeably uneven and significantly fluffier on one side then abnormally short in the middle of the fluff would not be a poor description issue, but rather a poor grooming issue. His feet were also slightly trimmed clean, but he was very shaggy overall around the bottoms of his pads. My dog can get squirmy while getting groomed if he gets stressed out, but my current groomer usually loves on him the entire time he gets groomed so he comes out super calm.
So a half star for service (friendly, but didn’t inform me of doggy razor scuff going across his belly & inner thigh), a star for nail-​trim, and a half star for the actual grooming (nice fro, horribly everything else), which given that’s the service I paid for constitutes a majority of the weight of my review. The worst part is I ended up deciding two weeks later to make the hike up to the North to get my doggy regroomed because of how silly he looked and to get his feet redone.

Pup Scrub squeezed us in, and in a mud+rotten fish emergency. We were trying to avoid letting Zelda into the car before getting her cleaned up (after unfortunate rolling incident at Juanita Beach) and these folks were very, very helpful, given how amazingly bad Zelda smelled. We googled dog washing from our phone, walked up to Pup Scrub, and our prayers were answered. Zelda came out smelling like a rose. We really appreciate the bail out, and the sense of humor with which it was accomplished. We had a very nice break at Urban Coffee while they cleaned her up. We could practically hear her howling and squealing a half-​block away — all the more reason to appreciate the patience and fortitude of the fine dog washers at pup scrub. A hearty thank you from all who ride in our car.

This review is for the self-​service dog wash, not the groomers there, per se. I went late on a Saturday afternoon and they were busy, so there was about a 20 minute wait. The wait is not an issue.
What you may want to consider is that with all the stations busy, whatever hot water tank they have is being severely taxed, and though I had it turned on all the way hot, the water was tepid at best.
Another thing you will want to consider is the ambient volume with 5 or 6 commercial dog blowers roaring all at once. There were only 3 – 4 on at a time when I was there and it was uncomfortably loud. One of the full time groomers wisely had on a set of the industrial ear muffs you see the guys on the airport runway wearing. That will give you a sense of the noise volume in the room.
And about those blowers; they’re are just that and not heated. What that means is that you’re blowing cold air at your cold dog, trying to blow the water off. I will say that blowers like that are pretty common but I would have much rather have had my Andis 60 070 that provides safe, gentle heat.
Another issue for me was the low quality shampoos and conditioner. Compared to others I use they felt diluted and ineffectual. I have a dog with a long, light, and silky coat. I need my conditioner to detangle and add manageability — the Pup Scrub product didn’t do this at all.
The result for me was having to blow cold air at my dog for an inordinate amount of time. Because the conditioner was of poor quality, it resulted in serious matting and tangling. This may not happen to you; it depends on your dog’s coat.
When I saw what was happening (matting and tangling) I shut it down, paid, and took my dog home to re-​bathe and condition. It was not how I expected the afternoon to go, but for me it was a lesson learned.
Do I hate the place? Nah. The people were nice enough; nobody called me a b*%# and c@*# (see Heidi H’s review). The price was reasonable. It’s just not for me with the breed of dog I have. You could probably wash a dachshund or other smooth coated breed there and be happy if you were wearing industrial hearing protection ear muffs.

I have been a customer at Pup Scrub since it opened. My veterinarian had been there with her pups and highly recommended it. I have German Shepherds. When I started there I had a make that developed a very rare and difficult to treat allergy. The staff there worked with me as I had to bathe him weekly. It was a struggle and the condition made the dog difficult to handle at times. The staff there understood the complexities of the condition and were so kind in helping to anticipate the dogs needs. I have owned four dogs since starting at Pup Scrub and have taken them all there for regular bathing. I no longer do the work myself and have grown to rely upon and fully trust the people there to bathe my pups for me. Melissa and Caitlyn are both so good at what they do and really seem to enjoy it and clearly have the animals best interests at heart. So happy and grateful to have this place so close and loving to me and my beloved pets.

I have just had an upsetting experience here with a couple of the employees. I will rarely publicly speak about a business but this was that extreme. This is not a reflection of the owners but of two employees… the cashier l, who’s name I don’t know, spoke to me in a demeaning way after a misunderstanding accusing me of lying and then a bather, Caitlin who later stepped in calling me a b*%# and c@*#. (Yes, it means what you think.) Let me share how this went down.
At drop-​off at 1, they told me my dog would be done around 2:30 PM. Around 5, I called and left a vm wondering why they hadn’t called and that I was concerned. (No big deal.) They called back saying they had left a voicemail. (Never received. My phone carrier not working?) When I then went to pick up at 6 PM/​closing, I was told $ 77 which included a $ 10 «day care» fee. Again, no big deal but I was confused. It went down hill when the cashier started waving her finger saying, «You’ve done this before.» «Really? Done what before?» «Leave your dog here and not pick up for hours.» I started to recall the last time I was here and yes, now that they mentioned it, the same thing around not receiving their call he was ready *had* happened. Note to self. Weird, right? I found myself caught off guard of what I was being accused of and was beginning to get upset because she would not give me the benefit of doubt continually accusing me of doing on purpose. I asked if she was calling me a liar? And she just kept saying, «We called.» Ok, that’s all good and well but I didn’t receive. I even ran out to the car to bring back my phone and show no vm from them or missed call. (This has happened once before with AT&T but of course I don’t know if no one tells me.) After a few minutes of back and forth and me finding myself having to defend my integrity, they escalated now saying they didn’t want my dog back because he was «hard to handle». Really? I had never heard this from them the previous 10−15x I’ve used their business so I was clearly even more confused/​shocked. I definitely became upset and increased my voice trying to get her to understand that I was not lying and wasn’t accusing them of lying either. My concern was more around something being wrong with the phones? There were about 4 – 5 of the employees there and they all started defending the cashier yelling at me to get out. I’m thinking, «Is this really happening!?»
Caitlin, a bather there, then made worse by calling me a bi%#* as I was walking out the door. Really? I went back in to ask her what she just said and she said again. I admittedly became increasingly upset at their accusations and definitely raised my voice. A man (her boyfriend who does not work there) was in my face screaming, «Get out!» When a man and 4 screaming women are coming at you, game on. I told him to stop screaming at me and that his breath stunk. Mean? I know. Sorry. Not sorry. Caitlin, then screamed out onto the sidewalk that I was a c*%#. She screamed 4x to make sure all of Juanita Village heard. People were staring at her. Wow.
I wish I was making this up because I can’t believe it just happened. I’m ok admitting I shouldn’t have raised my voice when they accused me of lying instead of giving me the benefit of the doubt, but to then insult my dog refusing to see him again and then scream profanities/​names at me out the door… disappointing to say the least.
In their defense, maybe they were having a bad day?! And, they had gotten so upset that they didn’t charge me/​refused my money. This was in between my being sworn at. That was kind of nice of them at least.

I brought my very nervous Golden Retriever in for the self-​bathing. They immediately brought me to a station, hooked her up, and went over the different shampoos for her, even asking if she had an allergies. Many times while bathing/​drying the staff and groomers walked over to check on us both and even suggested different brushes. During the drying my dog was nervous and barking so a groomer brought over a head towel to cover her ears which helped a lot.
I paid $ 19.99 for her, though it said $ 16.99 online. I didn’t mind however because she does have quiet a lot of hair. Overall the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and this was the nicest self-​bathe place I’ve seen. I’ll definitely be back!

Hands down, the best! After a horrific experience at another business, I was very apprehensive about trusting anyone with my best friend. Kendra loves my dog as if he were her own. He always comes home looking handsome and happy. I love supporting local businesses, especially ones that go above and beyond. Appointments are never longer than an hour and I’ve never left being anything but pleased. Thank you for being the best!

For $ 65.00, my dog’s mane should be perfectly coiffed. I do not expect to pick said dog up, and see at least four visible spots that are at far longer lengths than the rest of the fur. Also, I don’t enjoy being chastised for the prior shape of my poms do; isn’t that why I’m paying you? Perhaps I’ve been spoiled by Around the Corner in Queen Anne– where you get a complimentary puppy massage, puppy cologne, a bandana and puppy delivery for $ 35, but I think it’s absurd that eastside groomers feel entitled to charge hellaciously overpriced fees for mediocre service. Goodbye pup scrub.

My dog Dublin has been going to Pup Scrub for about 2 years and I thought everything was great. My dog has anxiety issues. Before they started grooming him the groomer was aware of the issues. He doesn’t get aggressive just shuts down. They notified me while trying to make an appointment that they could no longer take my dog due to his anxiety issues. I am not upset that they feel like they are not qualified enough to deal with anxiety issues. I am upset because for 2 years they never said anything about it being an issue. I was also confused on the issues they were telling me. I was always early to pick him up and he was ALWAYS behaving on the table while they finished him up. When I was talking to the lady she also stated last time he was sedated and it caused him to have diarrhea. I then asked her WHO sedated him??? I have NEVER sedated my dog before. She then started stumbling on exactly what she was going to say. THEY SEDATED MY DOG with out my permission got caught and then lied about it when I confronted them. Do not bring your dog here for grooming if they have anxiety issues. They could be sedating your dogs without your permission.

It’s a dog service shop being run by dog lovers — no surprise that it’s great.
Well equipped with soaps and tools and aprons and super cheap — especially during their Two for Tuesday promotion (which, as a parent to a pair of corgis, I can easily appreciate!) Lots of tubs, rarely a wait — if you’re looking for them to groom for you, the schedule does appear to book up a day or so in advance.
We’ve had uneven luck with groomers in the past — Pup Scrub provides an economical way for us to keep our dogs groomed without our bathroom looking like a furry hurricane hit it.

This place is phenomenal. The staff is awesome; they truly care about what they are doing. And you can either wash your pup yourself, or they’ll do it for you. They have quite a few bathing areas so there is almost never a wait.

The ladies here have always been friendly and they are so sweet and fawn all over my little lab/​pit mix. We get her the full grooming experience about every other month and they do a great job taking care of all the little details.

My dog has super sensitive skin. After several REALLY bad experiences at a «major» chain, I decided to give Pup Scrub a call. When I called to make the appointment, Shelli was very attentive and listened to my concerns and assured me Charlie would be in good hands with Keesha. I was amazed! His appointment from drop off to pick up was 1 hour! Not only did he look great, he isn’t having any issues with his skin! We will definitely be back!

My bulldog Sherman & I have tried several places since moving to the area 1 ½ years ago, this is definitely our favorite. You can wash your dog yourself or they can do it for you. We opt for the professional grooming & his fur is like Teflon + super shiny & clean for over 2 weeks. They trim the nails & all the other stuff, too! You can genuinely tell they care :)

My dog had a full grooming by Jennifer. She did an excellent job on my scruffy guy who came out looking beautiful — total time was one hour and 15 minutes. The cut was wonderful. I have a ShiChon (Shih Tzu/​Bichon mix).
I will go there again. Great job!
