I’ve been wanting to stop here forever, and finally did! Such a cute spot — coffee, ice cream, smoothies, pastries — has free WiFi, plenty of room to study and plug in your phone or laptop or just hang. I ordered the Latin Latte with soy(organic espresso, soy milk and condensed sweetened milk, cinnamon) — amazing! Honestly it’s my new favorite coffee. The staff here are really nice as well. Will definitely be back again and again.

Love this place. We usually get the Irish Cream flavored blended. Tried some of the holiday flavors and the guy working here mixed the powders just right for me since I do not like a super strong mocha flavor. Great service and good treats!

1st Review of 2016 and I wanted to begin with something good that not many of my friends have been to as of yet. What a find this place turned out to be. Captains Vic’s resides in the former home of Starbucks at the corner of Paramount and Carson in the city of Lakewood and has a great selection of coffee, smoothie and desserts. I love walking into this little place and seeing the nautical theme throughout. The entire plae is done up in ship wheels, mermaids and inspirational wall sayings that really help it stand out and be remembered. The service here is always friendly, the pricing is average and the desserts are on point. I came here for the first time a couple of months back after a quick dinner at a nearby establishment at the Lakewood Mall to try something new and instantly became a fan. I realize that many people on here will knock them for not being a place that churns out their own ice cream by scratch, or not using liquid nitrogen or whatever the hot fad of the day may be but that’s not what they are about. Captain Vic’s uses the tried and true Dreyers ice cream that is sold by the scoop and can be had in a cup, cone, sundae, banana split or turned into a milkshake(using any of the ice cream flavors of the day). I personally have no qualms with Dreyers ice cream and think it is as good as many of the other places out there. The inside has several seats but is really only large enough for a couple of small parties at once but both times I have been here they were not busy and seating was not an issue. I also like their large selection of blended coffee drinks, lattes(available in about 10 flavors) as well as their assortment of smoothies, shakes and floats. I recently returned for a second visit last night after recently seeing and acquiring a Groupon deal worth $ 10 and knowing I would be in the area. If you are a fan of coffee or ice cream, come on down and give Captain Vic’s a chance. They may not be the most original concept out there or use todays latest technological ways of making their desserts but the simplicity, taste and quality service will definitely keep me coming back.

I have gone to Captain Vic’s many times since they first opened, and I feel like they deserve an updated review. Turns out the coffee offerings are really good, and the ice cream is still delicious. Employees have always been very friendly every time I’ve come in, and I had the pleasure of meeting Captain Vic himself! If you like flavored coffee drinks, theirs are very good, as they use delicious Ghiradelli syrups. I don’t have anything negative to say about this place at all, and highly recommend them if you’re in the mood for a treat.

Aw I love captain vics. It’s a cute little ice cream shop with plenty of other desserts and amaaazing organic iced coffee. My two year old niece absolutely loves it here. The captain remembers us and the employees are friendly too. Their affogato, which is basically an espresso topped with vanilla ice cream, is delicious. This is a great place to study and get your homework done.

Not a place to go for breakfast unless you just want coffee. Their poster of a bagel at the entrance is so misleading… You go in thinking there could be other bagel breakfast sandwiches with ingredients like spinach or sundried potatoes or a lox bagel and whatnot… But it was disappointing to discover that the bagels aren’t fresh(or at least when I came) and the cheese, egg, and bacon is pretty ordinary. I was hoping for something organic and with a healthier alternative like white egg, but it was just mediocre. I asked for green tea and it was generic powdered green tea. Nothing like the matcha green tea at Mitsuwa in Torrance or at DRNK in Bixby Knolls in Long Beach. Put it simply… This place seems to be just good for some types of coffees and ice cream. I like the interior décor and the ample parking. The barista-cashier was also nice and pleasant. Overall, this place needs more«umph»; needs more creative, simple breakfast dishes, which I can see as do-able. I walked away not as impressed but I see potential if they add more magic. Nevertheless, I support smaller businesses and so I still rated this place w/5 stars in hopes they’ll take it up a notch… Like have better breakfast bagels, brioches, or croissants! It can even be better than Eggslut in DTLA. Let’s just say I’m an optimist!

They use Dreyers ice cream and it was perfect. Also had the chocolate hand dipped cheesecake which was also As good as it sounds. Great lil Gem in North LB/Lakewood area.

This is a great little place! This was my first time trying the Affogato, and it was SO delicious! I loved it. I’m not too big of a fan on strong coffee, but this shot of expresso was pretty good. The cookies n cream ice cream was just another plus. Definitely going to be getting this again, soon. Would recommend anyone to come here! It’s such a cute, and quiet little place. Great for studying and doing homework. Met the owner the other day, and he’s such a sweet and very friendly person. Definitely made me feel welcomed and chit chatted with me about how«deadly» this could be because it would make you just want to order it over and over again. Thumbs up to Captain Vic’s Coffee and Ice Cream!

The first time I visited this place, I was on my way to Payless and thought, what better way to accompany shopping for shoes than with some delicious coffee? I walked in and was the only customer there. I ordered an iced latte flavored with vanilla. It was creamy, just the amount of sweet, and ice cold. Perfect. So on my way to work the next time, I went in and ordered an iced hazelnut latte as well as a breakfast bagel. The woman at the counter let me know, about 5 minutes later, that she actually didnt have any sesame bagels but only blueberry. We both agreed that eggs and cheese on a blueberry bagel wouldn’t be the best, so she offered me jalapeño instead. I was ecstatic. Even better than sesame! It took a while, but I got my coffee and bagel and went to my car. This is where it all went wrong – my coffee was SOUR! I could definitely taste the hazelnut, but then there was just this weird, watery sour-ness to the coffee. Instant yuck. Did not finish. And then the bagel. oh man. I was so ready to bite into a soft, chewy bagel with eggs and american cheese and sausage. Instead, the bagel was ROCKHARD. Like I literally could knock my knuckles against it and it sounded like I was knocking on a table. I couldn’t chew it at all. That’s when I remembered that I heard her microwaving stuff – it was probably my bagel :( I ended up taking the egg and sausage out and eating it by itself and then dumping the bagel. Such a waste. I had such a nice experience here the first time. Don’t know what happened the second time!

When my coworkers and I first found out that this place had replaced the old Starbucks, it seemed kind of like a joke, and we thought that it would quickly sink without a trace. Fast forward about a year, and one hot-ass afternoon a coworker suggests that the usual afternoon coffee train would be a coffee/ice cream train. That’s when I asked, «Oh, are you guys going to that Captain Vic’s place?» Actually, they were going to go the usual Starbucks but also to The Habit because I guess now they have soft-serve cones. However, when they heard about Captain Vic’s, we decided it was too good of an idea not to try. This way we could have the best of both worlds! Of course we consulted Unilocal to see what the ratings were like before we headed off, and we were impressed by the 4.5 star rating! The place is clean, cute, and staffed by very nice people. At about 3pm on a Friday afternoon it was pretty empty(just a mom and her kid having ice cream), so we were able to get our stuff right away. I opted for the Affogato, which is ice cream with espresso poured on top – an absolute favorite of mine. My coworker, who’d never tried it before wanted to see what it was all about, and ended up enjoying it very much. The espresso was nice and strong, a great complement to the vanilla ice cream, yum. It truly was the best of both worlds for me – ice cream AND coffee. Now that I know I can get an Affogato fix close by, I am sure to return! They also give you a coupon for 15% off your next visit on your receipt so don’t forget to save them. They also have a LOT of other options on their menu so I think there could be something for everyone. I really hope that more people find out about this charming local establishment and give them a try! STEPHJUDGEMENT: A great local business with good food and service that’s worth supporting.

If you’re tired of having to go to two places to get both coffee and ice cream, then stop by Captian Vic’s, a nautical themed coffee and ice cream shop. It’s a new shop in the long beach area that is veteran owned and operated. Not only are you supporting small business, you are also supporting heroes. There is nothing more american than that. All the coffee beans are organic, and the resulting coffee is pretty delicious. There is lots of seating and free WIFI for you to sit down, escape the summer heat, and eat an ice cream. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Captain Vic’s is a cute coffee/ice cream shop that recently opened up in place of a Starbucks. Thank god, I can’t stand Starbucks and I’d much rather support a small business. First time trying it out and I really liked my drink. I got a hazelnut blended drink and it was super good. The only size available was a 16oz though and it was $ 4.35, I wish they had bigger size options. The place was empty except for an older man drinking his coffee and the girl working. She was super sweet which is always a plus. The coffee shop is big and really cute. It has a nautical/beach theme and they even have nautical trinkets available for purchase. They also have free wifi! Super plus. There is adequate seating, indoor and outdoor and lots of options for drinks, ice cream and pastries/baked goods. I will definitely be back but next time to try something new !
