I should not have to think to much at a Mexican restaurant. But this menu is very confusing and they don’t have burritos? The saving grace was the food. I got three tacos, fish, shrimp and chicken. All were equally good in flavor and all were alacart aka literally 3 plates. My issue wasn’t the food which I would order again anytime. It’s the incongruency of the items. The reason i got 3 tacos l, normally 2 is enough is the lady(pleasant and helpful enough) explained that their tacos are served with a single corn tortilla on a plate… Literally! When I asked why no burritos she showed me this flat Bread thing that looked like Naan. Most places including Mexico give you two tortillas with enough protein and veg to make two tacos. So I was a bit shocked that 1 was 7 bucks. Maybe it should have came with a side of beans and rice. I know I’m in larkspur where the beautiful people live, and maybe a single tortilla with the veg and protein on a single plate is called lunch or dinner, but come on man! Everywhere else including OC and Beverly Hills it called al la cart if not an appetizer. So I was hungry and have an obligation to my fellow Unilocalers to keep it real. So I ordered three. Chicken fish and shrimp. Flavor wise awesome but at $ 7 it better be. I sat al fresco out in the courtyard facing the turtle and coi pond. It wasn’t until my third taco was brought out one at a time on separate plates, that I realized they forgot my Pellegrino and lime. That’s when I noticed the the salsa bar. Fortunately the tacos need nothing but a bit of fresh squeezed lime. The lady who helped me saw the incredulous look on my face and gave me complimentary chips to attack the bar with. I tried all the salsas along with pico, none was spicy all pretty bland including this orange salsa that had Little flavor but did have a bit of after kick on the pallet. Overall if you want the real deal Mexican place… This is not the joint. But if you want quality meal with very upscale setting and corresponding price This place is totally gringo friendly.

amazingly fresh, casual and inexpensive … great salads! good dressings! wine and beer too although they don’t advertise that on their menu. i went with 3 of my besties and we really enjoyed our meals and lounged in a big corner table. No attitude, very nice staff, friendly and mellow. we all said we’d definitely come here again.

I had been here once before a long time ago. Somehow I had selective amnesia and forgot why I hadn’t returned. I ordered a quesadilla and chips and guac. What I received was nothing like a quesadilla. It was lacking in taste and was overly cooked. The guacamole looked like something you purchase blended from a supermarket. Yikes. All of that, and it was ridiculously overpriced. Needless to say, I won’t be returning…

Only been here this once, but probably won’t come back. The Tijuana Tacos were the greasiest tacos I have ever had, mostly a big pile of greasy thick-cut sweet onions on top of some chewy steak and cheese, and a limp corn tortilla to pick it up with. I could have sworn the menu said something was going to be crispy. Nope! Like slippery eels, those onions just jumped out all over the place, and I was left with a plate of greasy onions. Don’t get me wrong, I like onions, I like greasy onions by the plateful. I probably would have liked them even more if I had some chips or something to eat them with, and maybe a decent salsa or some jalapenos. They have that bright orange salsa that has a faint taste of tomato soup and no heat, something to get your food wet. Basically, I ordered overpriced tacos and got a mess of onions instead. Maybe the kitchen felt slammed or something, because it took quite a while to get those onions greased up and plated. Probably a good place to take children for lunch.

Recently ordered«To Go» food @ busy 6PM time. Arrived to find no «To Go» line. Bruskly told I had to wait at end of long line of «order in» patrons. When I got to check out, the owner or manager just shrugged to my complaint/suggestion of a «to go» line, and gave me a look like, «we don’t care what you think»… BTW: Jicama salad = 90% grated cabbage, a little Jicama and maybe a pepper or so. Tortilla soup = thick orange soup??? pureed the chicken/broth/tortillas all together. Chicken«Enchilada» = melted cheese on top of tortilla with strips of dry grilled chicken on top.

This place was pretty overpriced for the type of food that they serve. If you have absolutely no taste buds, this place is the place for you. The service was decent, the employees were nice but that’s as far as it goes. My wife and I came to satisfy our mexican food craving and we were disappointed. We actually ended up going to another mexican restaurant in Mill Valley. Definitely won’t be coming here again. Oh well.

Wait this place is EXCELLENT. Breakfast huevo rancheros was delicious with good emphases on the sauces. If you like saucy Mexican food this is your place. Not too heavy, not crazily loaded on beans either, which is a great. Salsa bar has an amazing orange coloured mild chili sauce that is equally as great. The divorciado– yum. They also have wine and beer. Oh and the Mexican coffee — YES!

Nice looking menu. Shame about the food. We had the chicken enchiladas, the chicken mole and beef tacos, as well as guacamole and chips. Without exception the food was flavorless, unseasoned, overcooked and expensive, but the service was decent.

My veggie quesadilla with mushrooms had meat in it… There was a small piece I noticed and picked out but later when I was chewing I tasted a piece of beef. Not a huge deal to me, I’ve only been vegetarian for a couple months but for someone who takes themselves very seriously or has been a vegetarian for years that would be super uncool to have small pieces of meat mixed in with their mushrooms… It’s actually disrespectful to those people who make a conscious effort to not support the meat industry. The quesadilla itself was average, nothing special. Kind of soggy and the onions were burnt completely black which also isn’t good for you. Not my cup of tea. Once again I am convinced Marin cannot make decent Mexican food.

Fresh salsa bar and delicious meals! Their fresh homemade tortillas are awesome and just right! I recommend the huevos divorciados and chori queso! I will be back when it’s not so busy!

Very nice employees, but this is THEWORST Mexican food I’ve ever had… gauc was nasty, enchiladas were bland, and the chicharon Sope tastes like cat food!!! Save your $$$$$go to Taco Bell.

Interesting presentation. Good flavors. Definitely a different twist. A bit on the pricy side. Seems to be the meeting place for wealthy Marin moms fresh from yoga. Good food and deserving just because I’m not into it.

Clean, fast, tasty, friendly. The menu is fresh and bright with many choices. Tacos and burritos but other unexpected choices. This is why they are doing good business. Its the little extras on the menu that bring people back. The staff is friendly and the cleanliness is perfect. Everyone I see here is enjoying their food and the prices are reasonable. I ask you come in and look at their sizable menu on the wall. Your mouth will thank you.

Yum! Came here with my parents and was excited to see Nopales(cactus) on the menu. My mother and I both got the Quesadilla Nopales. My father got steak fajitas. The three of us shared an order of Mexican Rice, an order of Refried Beans and basket of Chips. The rice was less flavorful than I like but I mixed it with the beans and the orange salsa to make it all delicious. The quesadilla was crunchy on the outside with gooey cheese, pico de gallo and Nopales. The Flan was the highlight for sure! Perfectly creamy and sweet. I will definitely come back next time I’m passing through Larkspur, hoping they serve horchata that day. ;)

I made get scoffed at for this 2 star review; I speak the truth though — I really have experienced much better and to say this is even A-OK would be a shameless lie. The g/f and I were hungry and looking for options — she being a Larkspur native suggested we head over to Loco and get our Mexican on. She had the posole and it was a huge portion — we honestly could have split the bowl and had our chips and guac(more on this guac in a second) and been fine. It looked like every other bowl of posole I’ve ever had — plenty of chunks of tender pork, lots of hominy; however, it was missing flavor and even some basic seasoning it seemed. We ended up doctoring it up with the salsa from the salsa bar and even the bottled hot sauce to get it to be — well, more Mexican. My basis for any new Mexican place is how well they do the basics — to me, that is the basic and humble taco, rice and beans. I usually go with a chicken and carnitas if they have it — which they should. Again, the troubling thing we had here was in the seasoning — where was it? It was a great portion size(although they only give you one corn tortilla vs. the traditional two I normally get — so be prepared for a taco blow-out); but, nothing was distinguishable about either the chicken or the pork. Sad face. The quac was weird also. It looked like the blended guac my work gets from Costco — it was just green with no chunks of anything in it and tasted pretty bland and blah also. We ended up adding the pico from the salsa bar, the green sauce from the salsa bar, the bottled sauce and some salt — you get the picture. Double Sad Face. You’ve been advised Larkspur peeps — in summary: it’s a clean place with good portion sizes, a little on the pricy side, and a lot on the bland side.

Pros: Delicious flavors. Nice, casual atmosphere. Good for kids. Easy weeknight dinner or lunch. Cons: They got their start at the Marin Farmers Market, yet they use no organic ingredients. We would eat here more often if they were at least using organic meat, eggs, and lettuce. It is the Marin Country Mart, so I expect higher quality.

Nothing to write home about. The portions are decent and the prices are reasonable but the food doesn’t really have anything special going on. I expect Mexican food to be really flavorful and have some spice, but El Huarache’s offerings are lacking. I was surprised that with a line out the door on a Saturday afternoon, there was only one cashier. Plus, the servers have to find a pocket in this line of customers to sneak through so they can deliver orders to diners. We dined at an outdoor table by the fish pond and saw the sever wandering around with our lunch because he couldn’t find the order number on our table. A more efficient system would help this place a lot.

I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 2 because the variety and authenticity are good. However, it is greatly overrated. I expected the huaraches and tlacoyos to be made fresh to order but they taste like they are pre made and straight out of the freezer. Fresh made are scrumptious and really really thin. These were far from scrumptious: thick and dry. Also the guy taking the order was having a bad day or something, he had the worse attitude. The bus boys were really friendly. Overall not impressed. I was really looking forward to eating here during our stay in SF but I must say Plaza Mexico’s(in southern Cali) street style food is waaaaay better.

Lovely Mexican food made from deliciously fresh ingredients. No complaints here! I had the pork huarache with a side of rice of beans. Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection. There wasn’t a wait at all, but I came on a Tuesday afternoon. It’s a lovely place whether you are sitting inside or outside.
