Longview Coffee(formerly known as JP Coffee) seems to have gotten their act together since my last review. No more lost orders, so it seems fair to upgrade their rating. I usually get a chai latte, but I tried the London Fog yesterday & it was yummy! Hope the improvement trend continues…

Now under new ownership and going by the name of Longview Coffee(despite the JP Coffee sign still up out front and on the menus). I hadn’t been here in a while after a rather poor customer service experience right after they stopped being JP(which was actually quite some time ago), but I ventured back this Sunday afternoon to do some cliché coffee shop writing. I’m pleased to report that things appear to be back up to snuff at Longview Coffee. The baristas working were very friendly and eager to create one of the old signature drinks or any combination I could come up with. I asked about their sugar-free syrup options and was pleased to see they had six or seven different options, as opposed to the two or three I’m used to seeing at most coffee shops. I opted for coffee with a couple of pumps of sugar-free Irish Cream. The coffee’s not as strong as it used to be, which some people may like. Coming off a Parisian adventure this summer, I’m brewing my own coffee about twice as strong as recommended these days, so I could have done with a bit more oomph. Next time I’ll go for an americano. There were a lot of delicious-looking treats in the glass case, as well as options for soup and I think some sandwiches. The atmosphere was pretty nice. They’ve still got the local art on the walls, which is always interesting to look at. The music was a nice, mellow alternative stream. There are three or four outlets around the place, so you can usually find somewhere to plug in your laptop without too much trouble. All in all, I was pretty pleased with my experience. I’m glad they appear to have gotten things turned around, as JP used to be one my favorite writing haunts. With NaNoWriMo coming up in November, it might just become one once again.

Customer service: Excellent. Our barista was very patient as my mom and I studied the menu for quite some time and was able to answer all the questions I threw at her. She was also enthusiastic about their products which in turn made me even happier to be there! Order: small crème burlee and a berry cream cheesecake. The display case of pastries was full of magnificent looking desserts and I spent many minutes debating on what to get. The cheesecake was delicious; quite superb for a coffee shop. In my crème burlee(butterscotch, vanilla, steamed milk, espresso) I thought the butterscotch flavor was definitely lacking. But on the other hand, I compliment the espresso/milk ratio — just the right combination. The atmosphere of the café was wonderful. The floor was covered in soft chairs, benches, secluded tables, work areas, all spread out so you had plenty of room to maneuver. The air was filled with the sweet notes of jazz which added to the peaceful atmosphere. An excellent experience, indeed.

Great coffee, super friendly staff, and lovely décor. JP Coffee is located in a new urbanism development near the community college so the exterior has architecture that is contrived but trying to be interesting. I guess that’s better than the standard bland strip mall style that is so common in the KC suburbs. They do offer free wifi, and the comfy chairs surrounding the fireplace are a nice spot to relax. The outdoor seating is uncovered and on the west side of the building, so not the best spot for afternoon sitting. Try the Almond Joy coffee beverage, it will make you forget your troubles, if only for a moment. Yumm-mieeee!!!

If I ever just want to get away(with out going too far), look upon a grassy rolling hills and maybe catch a sunset, I know where to go. I like their comfy booths, chairs and the outside seating area. I really like their iced coffee but not too crazy about their wine list.

Nice coffee shop located across the street from the Metropolitan Community College in Lees Summit Missouri. The have good seating, as well as a fireplace to get your cold little toes all toasty and warm. I had a really good pumpkin scone, fluffy and pumpkiny goodness, and an okay chai tea, more sugar than spice, I like a spicy chai. Good service and pretty good treats make this place a repeat offender in my book.
