A very average experience overall. My son wanted me to try some sushi and I was agreeable. We both ordered sushi, but as back ups we ordered traditional cooked dinners as well. The sushi was just okay-even for my son who likes it .I’m not going to attempt to review it as I’m not well versed. My concerns overall are as follows: One chef attempted to cook for the full table next to ours as well as the four people at our table — TWELVE people. One cooking surface. One chef. The only explanation I could think of was it would save him from having to heat up and clean a second cooking surface. The result was a very long drawn out lunch. Our rice & vege’s were eaten by the time we got our entrée. As our table surface wasn’t heated, I tried to keep my sake warm by putting my cup on top of the vessel. When the server reached for my water glass, she clipped my partially filled sake cup & spilled some of it. When the chef returned my plate to me(with the freshly cooked chicken on it), he clipped my sake cup & spilled some of it. So, a mediocre lunch costing a bit over $ 50.00. My son wasn’t impressed with their sushi, I wasn’t impressed with their labor saving tactics or the time we spent waiting to have our lunch served. It will probably be awhile before I try them again.

Terrible service this time. I have been a regular for years. the owner is a great guy. Surprised by the two dollar up charge to get fried rice. Not sure if I will be back. The server was very over dramatic and her customer service skills were awful. We ended up walking out and going to siki.

About as disappointing as it gets. I have been coming to Mr. Sushi for years, and I will not be back after tonight. Order was wrong, rolls were loosely wrapped, fish was beyond chewy and smelled. We left ¾ of our food on the table. When we said something to the waitress the response was ‘yeah I completely understand’… No offer to fix our order ether. Only reason I gave 2 stars was the fact the green salad was delicious.

A pretty average sushi experience overall. Service was kind of weird, in that we only got one of the soups we ordered and the waitress didn’t look our way long enough for me to flag her down until she realized on her own and brought the second soup several minutes later, but we were offered drink refills(by three different servers) at least four times during the meal. No one looks like they work there, so it was a little confusing to have a bunch of people walk up to our table all the time. I’d say about 60% of my sushi rolls fell apart as I tried to pick them up, and the avocado was significantly past ripe. Some of it was okay but I skipped a couple of pieces. The miso soup was great once we both got it. I’ve had some pretty good experiences here in the past, so this may have been an off day, or the quality has gone downhill in the past couple of years.

Thus place is not fancy at all, but the hibachi and food are great. If your just looking for great food you’ve found the place. If your looking for ambiance you need to look further.

I celebrated my birthday here with my family. Biggest mistake ever. We had reservations, but they waited until our entire party got there before they would even seat us. Our party finally arrived, but the other big party got seated first, so we had to wait until ANOTHER table was available. Keep in mind, their«seating area» is just a couple dining room chairs up against the window. This was mid-July & the restaurant was stuffy as hell, with no sign of air conditioning. When we finally got seated, everyone in my family got the Hibachi, which was cool to watch. I decided to order sushi, since that’s the whole reason I picked this restaurant to begin with. It took us 10 – 15 minutes to even get drinks & another 20 minutes to order. Watching them cook the food was pretty cool, but my sushi did not come until AFTER my everyone in my party was done eating their food. I had to ask them 3 – 4 when my food was coming. It took them an hour and a half to make about 3 – 4 sushi rolls. I don’t understand why they would even let people order sushi if they don’t have enough people to make the sushi! They did say they were really busy, but that’s not an excuse at all. 2 stars because my family enjoyed the food that they ate, but the service was UNACCEPTABLE. Save yourself the headache & splurge for the Drunken Fish or Kobe, especially if you have a large party. I actually have had sushi here before, & it was decent, but I also came in the evening time, and sat in the sushi bar area, with only one other person. I guess your mileage may vary, but after that experience I won’t be eating here again!

Went here for the first time tonight for a friend’s birthday. Was craving sushi, but once I walked in the smell of the food on the hibachi grills made me want that instead. I opted for 1 sushi roll and some hibachi as well. 1st and foremost, the sushi… wow! I ordered the Lee’s Summit roll after reading reviews on here and was NOT disappointed! It was tempura fried and honestly could work as an appetizer at any restaurant. I was halfway through eating before I remembered to take a picture of it. As for the hibachi nothing mind blowing but quality none the less. My only complaint was a little overkill on the teriyaki sauce. If you are in Lee’s Summit I recommend you give this place a try.

One of my favorite places to eat. Not a fan of sushi(wierd I know!!), so I’ve only eaten their hibachi. I’ve eaten at several Japanese Steak houses in the area and have to say they pale in comparison. Their salmon and filet are phenomenal, strip is good too. The amount of food you get is A LOT. Never had a bad experience here. Atmosphere isn’t anything fancy and needs to be updated, but employees and staff are friendly and quality of food trumps that. Go with a group or family get together to maximize the experience.

I must’ve missed the hype on this place. Their fish tasted sub-par, and believe me when I say, I eat some strange things and this seemed more a part of the«strange» that I eat versus the«clean, fresh» you would expect from a sushi place. We came here on a work function, and one of our employees spoke highly of this place. I’m not sure if she hyped it up too much for me to enjoy it, but I won’t visit here again.

As a native South Floridian I was a bit wary about how land-locked Missouri sushi would be. Honestly, my expectations were bleak, but I was pleasantly surprised. My husband and I got two very different rolls(he got the Playoff Roll which is fried [he also had soy paper substituted in place of seaweed] and I got the BRT Roll with added cream cheese) and we both absolutely loved our meals. No complaints about the food whatsoever, it was delicious. The reason I’m rating it 4 stars versus 5 is for two reasons. First being that we had to make our order with pen and paper versus talking to a waiter, which isn’t terrible except for the previously mentioned fact that we had to adjust our order. Granted we just wrote in the changes we needed and they complied so it wasn’t a disaster, it just sort of takes away from the convenience of talking to a waiter. The last reason is because of the atmosphere in general. It’s sort of run-down looking on the interior and needs to be remodeled desperately. I can look past that but when I went to use the restroom it was less than clean and the trash can was over flowing with paper towels that were also piling up on the floor. Not the best way to end my meal. Overall I just wish that they were more personable and took care of cleaning with more efficiency — regardless the food was top notch so I’ll most definitely be returning!

Got sick afterwards. It happened to two of us in our party, and all of us ate the same things(scallops, shrimp) so I’m not sure what happened. Could be us and a food sensitivity… But I would hesitate to go back :-(

I came here a couple weeks ago for my friend’s birthday celebration since hibachi grills are one of her favorite places to eat at. We came with a group of about ten, arrived around 8:00 on a Friday night. The place was busy, as we suspected and we started out being okay with standing at the bar and having a few drinks as we waited for a table to clear. It was 9:40(!!!) before a table was finally cleaned off and we were seated. Mind you, two or three tables had cleared well before 9:40, it just took the staff about an hour to decide that they wanted to get us seated and make our dinner. At that point, half of the party was too hammered to even desire eating and just wanted to leave. The folks behind the bar seemed annoyed with our party ordering rounds of saki(guess they weren’t interested in making money.?) and by the time I ordered my first round when we were finally seated, the man brought me a sake flask that barely filled over one shot glass, saying that was all they had left. Our chef who worked the grill was pretty cool but obviously wanted to get out of work ASAP, seeing as they closed at 10:00. I will say the food was good, I ordered the shrimp with steamed rice. Though I ordered miso soup, my order was ignored and I was served regular soup along with everyone else. I’m left to assume that at that point, people were only serving what was left in the kitchen prior to closing and they were not willing to continue making anything additionally. I tried a couple pieces of my friends sushi — Definitely nothing to ride home about. The spicy tuna tasted very odd. By the time I got my check, argued about the validity of charging me full price on the sake, and watched all of the other guests argue about their checks, I was more than ready to get out of there. Needless to say, I will try my hardest to find my friend a WAY better hibachi grill for next year’s birthday.

Not my choice in town but we thought we would check it out again. Sorry to say we did not stay to eat this time, we were overwhelmed by the stench inside. Almost completely empty when walked in, the odor was extremely foul and smelled like the whole place needs cleaning attention.

Wide variety at good prices it also tastes divine! With a more modest presentation than most other places, it is A good place to go it you know what you want, or don’t know what to expect!

I’ve only been here for sushi(and not their grill) and never had a singular negative event, so much a series of poor, lack-luster experiences. Eating here is like showing up to my friend’s parents’ basement the morning after a high school party. Their floor typically has significant carpet dandruff and bits of food strewn about(remnants of paper products and edamame, respectively). Many ceiling tiles have water damage. The wait staff tends to have confusion with orders(what food comes out when, two servers working with one table without communicating as to whom is taking care of what, having one or split checks, making sure to bring out every dish ordered). The wait staff tends to walk away in the middle of customers talking and seem collectively depressed as if they all watched their dog get hit by a car last week and still should be taking some time off. To top it off – and it normally wouldn’t matter, but along with all the garbage, disrepair, and moodiness – the walls and spacing of furniture is so sparse that the whole place has this feel of awkward desolation, as if everyone is just waiting for the next Mad Max biker gang to rev their engines in the distance and invade us. The food sometimes hits the mark and sometimes tastes like its hungover. When it’s not so great, the edamame and sushi rolls taste like they’ve been reheated in the microwave. I really try to like places I go, and especially this place because I’m partial to sushi houses and at least some of the staff seems genuinely passionate about their jobs, but the building upkeep, staff communication and presence, and overall food quality just makes me frown enough to go somewhere else.

Fool me once… Save your money. I’d take Sakura over this place. The atmosphere is utterly gross. The most well prepared thing on the menu was the Dr. Pepper. Bones in my sushi. The rice tasted like it had rice vinegar just dumped all over it. Horrible that they’re able to get away with calling this sushi. I’m probably going to be sick tomorrow. Wait staff was also a mess. I never could tell who exactly was supposed to be taking my order and bringing the food. Dirty dishes left on the table for the entire meal, but, considering the floor looked as if it was getting worse service with food all over it from the day if not the week. They never did ask me how I liked my meal. That’s probably for the best. The more I think of it, the more I want to go back and demand a refund. Place should close before the health department closes them.

This is my FAVORITE sushi restaurant in the KC area! I constantly compare other sushi places to Mr. Sushi and no one beats them on quality of food, price, and service! Their Playoff roll and crab salad are my go tos every time I go!
