I have to agree with other posters. This is your basic Chinese Food place. If you stay with the mainstays the food is okay. Egg rolls could be a lot better. Still we keep coming back. My teenage daughter absolutely loves this place and could it there every day. It’s fast and usually good(but not great).

I have to update my previous review… there are new owners, and wow! has this places quality risen. We live a block away, so this was always a «just okay» basic Chinese restaurant, but it has changed to a «pretty darn good!» Chinese Restaurant! :) The meat is much better quality as are the veggies and such. They will tell you 20 minutes for when your order is ready, but it is closer to 10 minutes 98% of the time. We like to pick it up right when it is ready, so if you are the same, divide the weight time in half. There are several tables if you choose to sit down there and eat, too.

I was a 3star fan of the old owners and giving the new owners 1 star was hard but I guess they’re trying. 2 of 4 shrimp egg foo young patties were burnt. I specifically asked them for«just done». The phone help was is such a hurry I knew my request wouldn’t go far! House fried rice was sticky, made with over cooked rice and the shrimp in my foo young and fried rice was fishy tasting and smelling. I use to complain about $ 38 bucks and tonight it was $ 43 and I changed a large Mongolian beef to a sml. And it was very GREASY! Pot stickers I’ll give 3 stars. Very disappointed and most likely won’t go back ;@(((((! Excellent quality restaurants are hard to find in this area. I don’t mind spending the money if the quality was there.

Most obnoxious front desk help I have run into ever. First time ordering from this place and I asked a lot of questions before placing the order. I asked what came with the orange chicken listed as a house specialty. I was told white rice. I asked if I could get chow mein noodles instead and was told yes. When I got home and found they instead sent a bag of dry noodles I called and was told it was their mistake as they call both the dry and cooked noodles the same thing and to just come back and they would have an order if the cooked chow mein ready for me. We drove back and they told first my daughter and then me that we would have to pay for the cooked noodles. That’s nonsense. $ 37 and one meal with no noodles to go with it. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau as well. I do NOT recommend this place at all. Panda Express always gets your orders right and is good let alone half the price. I can’t post without giving them at least one star but they do not deserve it.

Tried to order take out from here on Mothers day. My husband went to pick it up and it wasn’t ready so he went for a stroll up the plaza and returned 5 minutes later only to find they had given our order away. They offered to remake it and since it was Mothers day and I really wanted Chinese food, he decided he would wait the 10 minutes they said it would take. Well, 20 minutes later it still wasn’t ready and as he was starting to leave, the person who they gave our order to returned with it as it was the wrong order. Unbelievably, they took it from him and tried to give it to my husband, opened containers and all. Apparently that customer had called saying he receive the wrong order and instead of make a new one for us, they just waited till he returned in. That had to be a health department violation. Worst customer service ever! The owner didn’t really care either. We have lived in the area for over 20 years and have ordered from there many times but will never be going back again.

A favorite eating establishment of mine stands right next door to Chopstix, and it shares the outdoor patio area, so on the way home from the Duck Farm dog walking park, we decided to give it a try. Ordering was easy enough, and they even brought our order out to the patio, take-out style, and that is where the problems began. We had ordered Fried Won Ton, Pork Fried Rice, Lemon Chicken, and Home Style Bean Curd. Unfortunately, whoever had packed this all up in a plastic grocery bag had laid the lemon sauce for the chicken on its side, and half of the sauce escaped the container, making for a sticky mess. I will say that they tried to clean things up as best possible, but we still ended up both having to wash the sticky residue from our hands after the meal, and leftovers had to be repackaged once I got home. As for the food, the Won Ton was okay but not great, lacking much meat, and I have had far better Pork Fried Rice as well. This was prepared Cantonese Style(dark), but it was more mild than I am accustomed to. The Lemon Chicken tasted alright, but I believe the chicken was probably prepared at some commercial kitchen and delivered to the restaurant frozen. I’ve seen and tasted exactly the same thing at numerous Chinese Buffets over the years. The Bean Curd was actually pretty decent, probably the high point of the meal. Sadly, this is one I’ll put down in the books as a one time only visit. There is far better Chinese to be had in the area.

I had high hopes for this place since Red Sun wasn’t very good. This was probably the worst Chinese food I have ever had and I have had some bad Chinese. The Empress Chicken was absolutely tasteless and the Sweet and Sour chicken my wife had tasted more like a pickle than anything else. I’m only giving this place 2 stars because of the speed of service.

you know what? Looks shady as hell when you walk up to it… small, dark, small… but I’ve ordered takeout a few times and I am amazed at their speed and more importantly, the quality. The sweet and sour chicken, pork, whatever, always seems FRESH and cooked to order. The egg rolls are hot and tasty. I wasn’t expecting much when you have your pregnant wife sending you on a craving food run with little to no time for mission completion… so I reached out and Chopstix was there to save the day. Yeah, I’d come back even if I wasn’t ordered to.

Ever since moving to Lake County five years ago I have been on the hunt for a decent Chinese restaurant. Chopstix is it! The food was fresh, tasty, and decently priced. I enjoyed tasting my food, and not just soy sauce and salt. We had the potstickers, mongolian beef, and orange chicken. It was all super yummy! Next time I will probably do take out since the chairs are very uncomfortable, but the food more than makes up for that.

It is not my favorite place. As Pamela B. mentioned I cannot find anything as good as the old Center Inn! They don’t have any dishes I like so we have to go to 2 seperate locations when my family wants Chinese. My husband gets only one dish here and that is it. I have tried to eat some of the dishes but I find that the food is bland and expensive when I add pea pods. Plus they are very cheap on the rice. I always have to order more and even then I don’t get a full container. The food is just okay I have had much better but nowhere up in the Lake County area. I keep going only becuase my husband likes it.

This is a no-frills type of place and in my view does the trick well if your wanting a Chinese meal. The place is small and the décor certainly is not hollywood, but what counts is the food is good. The appetizers comes out quickly and the main meal follows soon after. So, if you want to socialize and not rush thru, order your appetizer first, wait until it comes to the table then order your main meal. Much of the business for this place is carry out, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble in getting a seat. The owner is pleasant and is accommodating in modifying any of your food choices. I personally find the portions are just right and the prices are really good. For me, this is going to become a regular spot when I want Chinese.

This is the best chinese restaurant in the Area. I do not know what people are talking about with the Red Sun. Went there a couple of times and the food was horrible each time. At least with chopstix the food is fresh and tastes good. It’s not fantastic but it’s the best around this area.

Mediocre at best. It in no way satisfied my craving for great fried rice and homemade egg rolls.(it seems nowadays they all buy frozen) No one can live up the quality of the old Center Inn in Grayslake. I miss Alice and the gang. Their food was superior and no one has been able to satisfy my cravings.
