Hello all, I don’t review much but when I found this place in this small town, I was utterly in love so I wanted to share some good info. Since Lockeford is a small town, things don’t open to early, but this place does, 6am :) they have a extremely large menu, its pretty much the whole side wall and its ALL amazing, breakfast burrito’s, breakfast sandwiches, they do something amazing to the potatoes lol the melts are all awesome, tri tip sandwiches, I’m now an addict if you couldn’t tell ;) I could sit here and name things off but there would be A LOT and everyone’s taste buds are different but what I can assure you of, is that you will love and enjoy something in this place. Try a cookie, oh you’ll be back! :) Your welcome in advance :)

Went here today for lunch with high hopes after viewing reviews. What a disappointment. Whoever said the french dip was good has very bland taste buds. Potato salad was just meh. Wife had smoked turkey on a french roll and I would say Subway or Togo’s is as good. Service was good but nothing special here. I should have known when all the great reviews are mostly locals with low review numbers. Probably friends or other employees trying to boost numbers. My review is real as I eat out a lot and have a number of reviews. Not going back. Did notice another customer with a french dip that had more meat in it but with what I tasted it was enough. Prices are not super cheap but quantity is short.

Yum! Great wraps, sandwiches and ice cream! I only wish they stayed open a little later, but that’s understandable as a small family business in Lockeford. Very nice family and happy to see they are doing well!

The individually-served pots of coffee are always hot, the service is good & the breakfast is a great selection of favorites. Dollar/scoop ice cream in the afternoons is an awesome family treat!

Their cookies are awesome, I think the best I’ve ever had. Usually get the tri tip sandwich. It’s okay but wish it had more meat and the bread was better but not bad!

I’ve been looking for a place in Lockeford to find a good place to sit and enjoy a good cup of coffee for some time now. I’ve passed by Donkey J’s and just thought it was only a deli. Luckily, I happened to pass by in the morning and saw that they’re open at 6:00 am. I walked in to discover, to my delight, that they serve breakfast too. I ordered a cup of coffee and perused the menu. The menu far exceeded my expectations. My waitress, a very nice young lady, brought me a coffee and small carafe. The coffee is excellent! No Farmers Brothers restaurant coffee here. I ordered the Eggs Florentine with country potatoes and wheat toast. The meal was delicious. Even the toast was of excellent quality. The place is clean and well lit. The staff/owners are very friendly, polite and attentive. I was dismayed to see that there were only a few customers. Seems surprising, since the quality of the food and staff is so high. Hopefully, more locals will be making this place a regular spot. I know I will!

One of the few spots in the Lodi/Lockeford area that I genuinely look forward to. All of their sandwiches are very good and am particularly fond of the French Dip Special. I am travelling up tomorrow AM and will definitely be having lunch at Donkey J’s.

Donkey J’s is a regular lunch spot for my wife and I; and has been for quite some time. We have visited other deli restaurants, but none compare to Donkey J’s. Although my wife likes to try different sandwiches, I have found a favorite in the pastrami on marbled rye… hot or cold, it is THEBEST I’ve ever had! As for the sides, outside of my wife’s kitchen, their potatoe salad can’t be beat. Now for the soups, we like to go on Fridays, because their clam chowder is outstanding. We travel the California and Oregon Coasts and I’m always looking for good clam chowder; Donkey J’s has some of the best! I’ve talked about the food, let me say you will be hard pressed to find nicer or friendlier people anywhere; by the time you make your 2nd visit, you’re family! So, you have friendly people, who care about their customers; great deli sandwiches, with excellent ingredients, tasty sides and soups(not to mention a number of ice cream selections, for dessert) and you have a place you just have to visit. Five Stars isn’t enough, so I’m going to give Ten Stars,(five from me and five from my wife)! ENJOY!

We stopped in for lunch after picking up sausages and based in Unilocal reviews and we weren’t disappointed. It sits back off the highway in a stop mall. I had the turkey bacon croissant with a side of potato salad. The sandwich was loaded with fresh ingredients, and the potato salad was fresh made and a delicious classic version. The hubby had a BBQ Tri tip in a great soft roll and reported it had great flavor. He also chose the potato salad. The menu is huge so there’s something for everyone p, U.S. They have an ice cream counter so cones, malts, etc. are available in addition to specialty coffee drinks. The staff is friendly and good is great so when we make another ‘sausage run’ we will be sure to return.

I love this cute little family owned shop! They have a huge menu with lots of variety. My favorite sandwich is the turkey bacon croissant. My kids love the French dip. We also can’t resist their homemade hand scooped milkshakes. It’s so nice to have great place to eat out in the country, and we love to be able to support a small family run business. Keep up the good work!

I’ve eaten here twice — both times because I was starving. My first experience was nothing to brag about but I thought I’d give them a 2nd chance. After all it’s been 2 years and they have moved, maybe the food is better. Sorry to say it wasn’t any better than the first time. I had a Hot Pastrami, menu price was lower than what she actually charged me. I was so disappointed, Subways serves a better Hot Pastrami, but next I want a good one I’ll drive to Togo’s in Galt.

I came here because I was in the area and saw all of the good reviews. I have to say that they were well deserved! I had a very tasty BBQ Tri-Tip sandwich and it was great. The place was nice and clean, the service was friendly and the food was great. What more could you ask for? This is the perfect place for a good casual meal.

On our way back from Tahoe, decided to Unilocal some local eateries. Super cute menu on the wall. Lots of selection. Food portions were large and delicious ! Great choices in sides and came with a cookie ! Best deal of the day a scoop of ice cream in a cup 1 dollar :)))) Super friendly staff :)

Wow! What a find! We sure enjoyed our stop at Donkey J’s Deli and Ice Cream Shop this last Saturday. This was our first time here and boy did we have a great lunch. The food was very fresh, well made and quickly put together and brought out to us. The added cookie was a nice touch and a sweet treat! The young man that helped us at the counter has excellent customer service skills… very nice. The restaurant was clean and well kept. The older gentleman(I believe he was the owner), that served us our ice cream, was very nice as well. We couldn’t resist having that ice cream after lunch. We ordered a couple of cones. We were surprised to find out that they only charge $ 1. for a huge scoop on a cone! No one does that anymore! How nice! We’ll certainly stop in again. How refreshing to visit this nice establishment with such nice people! Way to go, Donkey J’s! Oh… And their breakfast menu and specialty coffees look delicious too. We’ll be back! :-)

Donkey J’s is great!!! The food is fresh and delicious, the owners are wonderful, and Donna makes the best chocolate cake– except it’s usually sold out!
