Reopened under new ownership. Western-themed sandwich/burger place. Not sure what the new business name is.(Will update once I figure that out.) The roast beef sandwich was delish with a nice crusty roll and tasty pepper relish. The Capt. Kangaroo burger with hashbrowns and egg overeasy — in the burger — was purportedly to be just as delish.

I love this place, so much so, if I lived down the street I’d always be found here. Though I was a little hesitant with the part of town it’s in, I didn’t think much of it until I walked in and I felt nice and cozy. I went on a Friday night, right around 8 pm and sat at the bar. Looking over the menu, there was a lot of your standards but also unique dishes to choose from. I went with a blackened ahi sandwich while my gal pal opted for their blackened shrimp sandwich. We shared an ahi tartare for the appetizer. The tartare was very flavorful, and came with neat presentation. You have to try it, especially if you’re one to salivate over creations on Top Chef. The sandwiches were also very well presented, and the tastes(I tried both) were out of this world. Flavorful, juicy and definitely filling, both meals came with very yummy thin potato fries. Needless to say, for a neighborhood bar, the food presentation was quite upscale. The atmosphere itself was welcoming. At first I was a little thrown off because the waiter was acting like we were really at a Dick’s Last Resort. But once I got the gist, I merrily played along. There is a mural along the wall of the bar and my girl friend and I giggled at the fact that each character reminded us of some other patron that was actually there that night. We also had a couple of drinks, much to our delight. They aren’t too big but the prices are okay. At some point around 10 pm they turned off all the lights, and a DJ set up and started spinning electronic music. This made everything kind of exciting, but the music was low-key enough to make you feel like you are still enjoying a relaxing night out. For Friday nights, this is definitely a nice corner to disappear into for a few hours.

I’d probably never go, let alone find, 410 Boyd unless I’d been invited by a friend. It’s a decent little joint tucked into a corner of Little Tokyo off of San Pedro. I met some friends here for a happy hour drink and a bite to eat. They have a better-than-average happy hour, but sadly do themselves an injustice by posting the hours incorrectly. Most happy hours end at 7pm — 410 Boyd ends at 7:30pm, making it easier for my slow ass to get back downtown from the LBC, where I work. I could actually MAKE a happy hour in this lifetime with those hours. And the prices on their menu are all about $ 4-$ 5 which is great for the dollar observer. On a Thursday night, it was mellow. Even our group was mellow. But that was ok. The bar is long and open, with plenty of room. I hear Friday and Saturday nights get rowdy with a dj, and it appears this place could handle it. It showcases art from local talent. Is it good? That’s up for debate. But I appreciate a place that hangs it on the wall and gives artists a vehicle to show their skills. The menu is a basic sampling of… well, the basics. Healthy salads, nachos, I think I saw a burger, and a few desserts. Nothing stood out too much, so I ordered some fries. They were borderline too well done, but I like that. I seek out the crispies. Some might not, though. The staff was friendly and helpful. By the time we left around 9pm, the place had filled up. There’s an outside patio where most had gathered and a dj was playing music. The best part, I think, was the video screen they put up. The entire crowd was playing Rock Band, which was pretty cool, and some guy(a manager?) informed me they were going to move the event outdoors into the(free) parking lot and blast it on the side of the building in about a week. Bonus! Would I go back? That’s up for debate. I didn’t leave with warm fuzzy feelings, but I give the place points for being customer-friendly, after-work friendly, and clearly party-friendly.

I learned about this hidden gem recently but found out it’s been a staple for years. Looks like a tucked in diner but you will be presently surprised ringing great service, a full bar & yummy food. I say go with the specials here. They had this amazing flaky fish in a green sauce that was tasty the bread pudding is good so save room for dessert. There is parking & yes lots of homeless people around but no one bothers you so don’t be shocked. It’s after all Downtown LA

«Cheers» for loft residents. Though seemingly insignificant from the outside, the space inside was full of potential. I came on a Wednesday afternoon to meet up with some friends to discuss community work. I arrived a little before 6 pm because I wanted to make sure I had time to enjoy happy hour, which was until 6:30 p.m. The space was long, airy and seemed unfinished. A long bar is one side of the wall, while booths lined the other side. The ceiling was high with exposed but painted pipes. On the walls were artworks from the featured artist. That evening, there was a meet and greet with the featured artist beginning at 7 p.m. When I first arrived, the bar was pretty empty. A number of artsy looking men by themselves sat on the barstools, while a couple of small groups sat in the booths. There were not a lot of women. By 7 p.m., the place was pretty full. People drank, ate, and milled around. More people walked around and looked at the art work; some seemed to know each other. 401 Boyd is laid back and takes on the energy of its patrons. Because of its large space and configuration, it really allows space for creativity and interaction. Unlike some bars, it’s not suffocating or overwhelming with people. Even when it became busier, there was still good space to move about, contributing to the good energy. In addition, the people – patrons and staff – were just really nice. Our server took the time to give me a mini lesson on the difference between cold and well drinks, as I only knew the two drinks I usually order. The place is just cool. The downside to 401 Boyd is the appetizer selection. I ended up ordering something from the main menu because the happy hour app special didn’t appeal to me. There was nothing fantastic or unique about it, which was disappointing given the coolness of the space. They had a few beer and wine selection that ranged from $ 4 to $ 6, and well drinks were $ 5. Their app selection was limited. Love the space and the people, but happy hour selection is NI(Needs Improvement). Tip: Parking in their private lot is $ 3. There are also plenty of meters, $ 2 per hour. When I visited, the meters were only until 6 p.m.

Boyd has become my neighborhood bar/restaurant. The food here is wonderful, the staff is great, and it’s one of those places that you can come and have a great meal, enjoy a drink, and hang out with friends. Max is the chef at this restaurant and he is amazing. He takes simple american fare and creates dishes that are fresh, eclectic, and tasty. His chile relleno special is prepared with a slight twist. Not deep fried, its roasted, stuffed with chicken, and served over a mole looking sauce, which is actually black beans. The regular menu items, especially the sandwiches are wonderful. My favorite is the catfish sandwich — delicately fried with an aioli served on a french roll — a must have! If you want a good burger, the Max Burger is a signature dish — it’s huge. Also, the fries here are sooo good. Perfectly crisp and nicely salted. I know its just fries, but they are tasty. Finally, the desserts are amazing. The mango cheesecake and the apple crisp are favorites. The mango cheesecake is made with real pureed mangos and the apple crisp is not overly sweet. I think its great to have a restaurant like this in downtown. A casual restaurant/bar where the food is great and you don’t have to be so fancy and overpay for good food.

I know there are dive bars, but is there such a thing as a dive club? If so, then this place would be it. Located in a bad part of town. Very small dance area. Patio area outside for smokers. Cover charge is too expensive for this level of quality for this venue $ 12 cover charge isn’t justified, but usually the proceeds go to some type of organization. There are local vendors who sell stuff on the patio. But the free parking is awesome.

Before going out, you need to know exactly what your expectations are. What mood your in, how much your looking to spend, etc. With that said, if you’re looking for a cross between a cool dive bar and a laid back Indie club with cool beats, then this is just the place for you. Mind you, this is a review for their«End Up» Friday night events. I’ve been there on a few occasions and the first few times I was far from satisfied with the service. But I must admit the staff has gotten a lot better! Fast and friendly service. First off, the area is borderline with skit row. Don’t let that scare you off though. They have free secure parking, key words being FREE and SECURE. And even the few times I’ve had to park on the street I’ve had no problem. –No cover, outside patio, great view of the Downtown skyline. –Good DJ’s blast out cool indie beats, mixed in with some modern and old school hip hop, can’t go wrong with that. –Good drinks. $ 2 Adiós special all night. –Cool décor inside. –It’s not the biggest place but the room suffices. This spot is perfect for a cheap, laid back night out with friends, good drinks, and great beats. It’s 18 and over, however, the crowd is fairly balanced with people of all ages and races.

Free parking, hip location, alcohol… usually a recipe for a good time but unfortunately 410 Boyd fails to deliver in almost all aspects. It’s friday night, and I’ve worked nearly 60 hours in 5 days — long story short I need alcohol and so do several other of my work friends. After hearing a couple whispers of this place, I decide we should explore especially because they have a parking lot… that’s free(is this real??) Upon arrival at approximately 7PM on a Friday night, I was almost taken aback that my group accounted for half of the people in the joint. Well whatever, I live in the city so I can deal without a crowd, it’s usually refreshing. However, we did not get the service one might imagine if A) the place is empty and B) because the place is empty we were accounting for a large portion of the night’s revenue. And you would also think that regardless of the expected crowd they would staff accordingly for a Friday night. I was found to be wrong on all of the accounts above. We waited on average 10 minutes to get drinks from the time we waited to get the bartender’s attention to the drink actually arriving. We also took the risk of ordering food, which took forever and a day. But I suppose what is there to expect when the staff consisted of 2 bartenders and one chef. The only thing this place really has going for it is the art, albiet interesting, it gives the place life and gives it an interesting ambiance. Don’t let the free parking fool you, a margarita from a mix(maybe I’ve been spoiled by LA mixologists) and bad service(and that’s saying a lot, I live in Echo Park where you don’t get service unless you looke like you’ve rolled out of a Urban Outfitters) awaits your arrival at 410 Boyd. I hope they get it together because the place does have a lot of potential.

my friend and i came here for lunch today because she had a $ 10 off coupon and we decided to try it since we were in the area. this place is really hidden but very quaint. there were not many people there at the time, but the workers were very friendly. i ordered the BLT with avocado and brie($ 12.50 and well worth it because their portions are pretty large) — one of the best BLTs I’ve had! my order came with fries and cucumber salad, which were pretty yummy as well! they have a full bar and happy hour from 3PM — 8PM! we weren’t there for that, but I’ll definitely have to come back for that one of these days. they are hidden behind this parking lot, which if you park there, you can get validation from the restaurant, so parking is free. there is also metered parking as well. i will definitely come back here for for happy hour! i heard their drinks were pretty good. it seems like it’d be a good place to have an event — we met one of the owners and he was very accommodating. go check it out!

410 Boyd is a place I like to go to when I can’t think of a place to go. The food is varied enough, decently prepared, and pretty reasonable. The wine list is OK, too. It has a nice vibe, although it could be better, maybe some live music??? The service is fine and friendly, and last time we went, I had what was basically a deconstructed coq au vin that was fine, and lovely wife had a nice salad. It’s nice they have their own parking, too. This is a nice place to take out of town friends to, since it’s kind of on the«fringe»; it’s the kind of restaurant that the Bay Area is full of…

This is my work’s favorite happy hour spot! The servers are all so great, the food is REALLYGOOD! Try the garlic or gorgonzola fries! The Max burger is one of my favorite happy hour meals. I’ve had some of my best times here but I’m not giving it five stars because it smells like a big restroom on the inside! And if you don’t order happy hour food, the menu is pretty pricey!

After a long day of Downtown grind, I don’t want to go somewhere to yell at my friends instead of having a normal conversation. I want to have good food to mingle with my brew. Oh, and I like my brew draft. And cold. I don’t want to fight to find parking, or pay out my ears to park a block away. And I don’t want to pay full price for drinks OR food at happy hour. At 410 Boyd, I can park my car right in the lot up front for FREE, talk to my friends, nosh on yummy food, down a cold pint of Red Trolley and no having to sell my kidney for happy hour. We were just there tonight. Thursday night didn’t have a crowd so we got this section all by ourselves. The atmosphere is ALWAYS relaxed. There is nothing pretentious here. Definitely not the patrons in this joint. My friend Erin called it a cleaned up dive with awesome kitchen. I have to agree. Jared, the Bartender, came right over with menus and took our drink orders. And our drinks never really ran dry the rest of the evening. Never an awkward moment, he would swoop in to check on us just as someone was about to finish his/her drinks. Sign of great service right there. My friend and I split the $ 12.50 Max Burger. It sounds like a lot, but it’s worth the size: a half-pounder with everything(grilled onions and peppers, avocado, lettuce, tomateos, bacon) AND chipotle mayo with an ample serving of fries. We were in awe of the size of this thing, I even took a picture of it with my phone. Jared came back a second later with his own phone to show us the 8th wonder of the world called the Double Max. Oh the humanity! Only if this was closer to Downtown core than out on the edge of Little Toyko I’d be here ALLTHETIME!

Two of my girlfriends wanted to throw an 80’s themed prom/party for their collaborative birthdays and rented this place out. From what I understand they did this without a bar min or a deposit. I had a blast here! It’s a smaller bar with lot of booths and a little area that can serve as a dance floor. They even have their own FREE parking lot! WHOOHOOO! We had about 50 in our party and it was perfect. The staff even hooked it up with free chips and salsa. I also left my leg warmers there(part of my 80’s outfit that I stripped off) and they held onto them for me! 410 Boyd, I think I heart you!

I came here for mETHEDOLOGY event and it was tight. At first I thought the place looked pretty ghetto but it was real nice. Small cozy patio, small cozy dance floor. Good times though. Nice staff. Ample valet parking right in front of it. mETHEDOLOGY events are awesome. Can we do a separate Unilocal category for mETHEDOLOGY at this venue? I dont know how to do it, if someone creates it, can you send it to me so I can rate it? thx

410 Boyd is such a great local restaurant. Every time we eat there I repeat that the food could not get better and the presentation is better then most restaurants downtown or in LA. The staff there are great and if you’ve been in a few times they remember a few of your special requests ie: H2O w/o ice etc. 410 Boyd gives you the feeling that you’ve walked into Cheers where everyone knows your name… Yes it is not in the best part of the neighborhood that is unless you live in the neighborhood then its not so bad since your use to the urban outdoors men.

I won’t lie. 410 Boyd’s is not in the best hood. It’s at the edge of Little Tokyo and a bit hidden in what seems to be a non-lit area. I didn’t have any food or cocktails at Boyd’s. I simply went for a mETHODOLOGY event. This group raises money for charities. My cover charge of $ 7 went towards a mentor-mentee program for kids. I don’t mind paying cover if it’s for a good cause. I absolutely heart businesses that have a social conscious component. Boyd’s certainly didn’t have to lend their establishment to mETHODOLOGY but they chose to. They’re helping out their community and hence they will have my business. Boyd’s has a great dance floor and the DJ played tons of good beats. Hubby danced with me and the fog machine took me back to junior high(but this time I had a date minus the fugly glasses and frizzy hair!). The bar was full of starry eyed young-ish peeps trying to do good in the world. I had a blast dancing the night away. Support the community — support Boyd’s!

This is a good place for lunch downtown. It’s a bit far on foot if you work on Bunker Hill, but a quick car ride, and you really feel like you’ve gotten away from the office for lunch. I highly recommend the spicy shrimp sandwich — it will put you to sleep for the rest of the day, but it is totally worth it! I’ve never been here at night — I could see the neighborhood being a little edgy, but they have their own parking. The service can be a little slow, but the food is delicious!

Good food in a business casual setting. Despite being in Little Tokyo, the food features steaks, fish, burgers, and good salads… more standard«American» fare that is slightly upscale. The only drawback was the homeless guy who tried to fish my change out of the meter when I put it in. But the food was good enough that I’d brave that again. The crème brûlée dessert was tasty.
