First time visit for myself in Maui! Came with my husband and a group of friends and we decided to stay at Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui! Best decision! This place is beyond phenomenal! Beautiful views, very welcoming and just a place I will never forget! My husband and I got the master suite and waking up every morning to that fantastic view I will never forget! This 6 room villa was spacious and comfortable! It felt like a home away from home. The pool was relaxing along with the jacuzzi that was so relaxing I didn’t want to get out ever! The owners were so welcoming and very time! And the required 5 minutes of aromatherapy was very soothing and the lavender was perfect! The steam room in the master bathroom was a perfect touch! My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer.

We arrived having made an appointment to meet Jen only an hour before, and she greeted us with aloha, carrying a huge wicker basket and a pair of shears. «Pick anything you like,» she said, handing us the basket. She then lead us down to a beautiful garden full of fragrant herbs and flowers. What a sweetie. There was Lavender, Lemon Verbena, Geranium, Thyme, Chamomile – so many loved plants with healing scents. After we were done, she introduced us to the oils and aerosols they blend in house, and told us we should visit again. She wrapped up the bouquet in twine with a smile, and didn’t expect or push us to buy anything. Of course, the smell of everything was so divine that I ended up leaving with a Lavender-Frankincense blend and an essential oil of Veviter – both clean, and nourishing. After my bouquet dried, I ended up making tea with the Lemon Verbena leaves – it was such a clear consciousness after the first sip that I knew this place is doing a lot right. Visit, but when you do, bring your own aloha and appreciation for Jen.

Perfect honeymoon spot! My husband and I ended up staying in both the Romantic Cottage and the Octagon Studio during our recent trip to Maui due to the different availability of the units at the time I made our reservations(which was 5 months in advance). Both were nicely furnished, and provided amazing views. If you’re conflicted about which one to book, I’d say go for the Romantic Cottage if you’re planning to stay a full week because of the space it provides. But if you’re only looking to stay a few days, and don’t mind cozy(but just as nice) living quarters, then go for the Octagon Studio. We were also given a tour of the Grand Villa, which looked spectacular to stay in if you’re looking for a place to stay with a large group. Just to clarify, since I don’t feel they explain it well on their website, this place is not a hotel or B&B. They operate as a vacation rental, and expect you to pick up after yourself and deal with unrolling and rerolling the cover to the jacuzzi. But honestly, these are small demands compared to the rewarding experience of staying here. So if you are expecting a vacation where someone is serving you Mai tai’s by the pool, then this place isn’t for you. Additionally, the owner of the property loves growing and sharing their garden of aromatic plants and alternately, the essential oils made from them. They’ll ask you to sit and meditate on your own time with an essential oil diffuser on for only a minimum of 5 minutes a day. It’s sort of on the honor system to follow through with this, but my husband and I found this time enjoyable to just breathe, relax, and ground ourselves before setting off for the day. Some other things you might want to know: the Maui Spa Retreat is connected to the Aromatherapy Foundation for all your massage needs. The Foundation itself is about a 15 minute drive away from the center of the small town of Makawao. We found this area charming, and all the stores there managed to satisfy our grocery needs. Lastly, the area is lush with plants, so naturally you’ll find bugs here more than in the coastal areas of Maui. Just bring some bug spray and you’ll be fine.

Superb! Can’t imagine staying anywhere else. Great location, view, accommodations! The only things I will note is that for a reason no one could figure out, we did not have wifi in the Octagon, the pool was too chilly for us to go into and we tried the hot tub on 2 of the nights but someone kept turning it up to the highest setting and my feet would literally turn bright red from being placed in the water for just 10 seconds. We tried one of the days to turn it down, take the top off and wait it out while it cooled down but after 40 minutes, it seemed no — go. So we left it turned down so we could go in the next day but someone beat us to it and came and turned it all the way up again. But, besides that — I really can’t imagine a more serene, beautiful place to begin and end your days on Maui. Next time we stay here we just won’t use the hot tub area and then won’t be disappointed, and as for the wifi, we had our iphones and were able to access the 3G so we had it for the map and directions etc. And when I needed the wifi, I took my laptop out to my car and accessed the wifi from the main house to do my banking transfers. We were refunded our $ 200 deposit with no issues. We loved driving all over Maui to different beaches etc and then coming back to the Octagon in the evening. BRING A SWEATER :) ANDBUGSPRAY!
