Used to really like this place… But I tried to order yesterday through Unilocal/Eat 24 and it was unexpectedly closed when I showed up to pick up my food. So I drive by today and it’s still closed. Sorry to see it go

If you like sashimi and temakis, then you will love this place as much as I did! The salmon slices were very generous and fresh, and for a $ 10 for 10 price, it tasted even more delicious. I had a salmon + spicy mayo + green onion temaki, and a mixed fish + green onion + spicy mayo temaki, and I am currently looking forward to the next time I’ll be able to stop by for some more delicious salmon. Our server was super nice and patient, and the place is simple and adorable. The Groupon deal — so much yes! Will be back!

I am a sucker for Japanese cuisine. It’s definitely something I constantly crave and the little sucker won’t go away till my tummy has had it’s fair share of Japanese food! A couple of my friends came here and just by looking at their pictures and reviews I just HAD to get my butt over here and try it. Walking in the hostess was very friendly. Menus are already on the table tucked on the side. Yes, it’s a little restaurant maybe around five tables, seating four people at most, each. Sadly they were out of the white fish when I went for lunch, but no worries, they had salmon which is my FAVorite! They have a $ 10 for 10 pieces of lush, fatty, delicious salmon sashimi that I, OFCOURSE, got. Price wise, very very affordable(of course i had to get two orders of sashimi and a hand roll, with tip it totaled to about $ 30. Which yes, I know, for one person is quite a lot. But come on, I can’t refuse sushi! Hand rolls are super yummy, and they don’t skimp out on the raw fish fillings either! I love little restaurants like these. Although small and a bit hard to find, a place where«regular customer» will begin to describe you. One slight problem I had(which is why there are four stars instead of five), is that the salmon sashimi was not properly de-boned. their wwere tiny little fish bones in a couple of pieces of sashimi. Would I still come back? Most definitely! A must try!

Okay this place has potential but when we went they did not have any selection of fish only salmon. Portion size are a bit small so you will have to order a quite a few. Good concept but it’s okay. Go if you want a snack.

Came in around 7 on a Sunday. Only one other party ordering take out along side me. One server. One person in the kitchen. Place was clean and smelled good. Ordered a few hand rolls and starters. Everything was delicious and a great value. Food takes a little bit, but well worth the wait.

Fresh salmon. Friendly people. Pretty good sushi rolls size and really accessible prices. I highly recommend the nachomaki roll. Yum.

I am not very big on sushi but I have tried it and I have enjoyed it from this place. Everyone is very attentive and polite. The atmosphere has a very hip feel to it. Cool place.

Let me tell you straight up that this is THE place to satisfy your sashimi cravings at an affordable price! My honey Andy and I ordered 10 pieces of salmon sashimi for only $ 10, and boy, these are generous slices! Thick and meaty is the way to go! Also, take advantage of the Groupon deal — $ 24 for $ 40 worth of food. We ordered various temaki(what I would describe as sushi cones) from the menu. Favorites would be the mixed fish(salmon and tuna — we’d get the white fish as well but they were out — with avocado, scallions, and mayo) and the camaroon(their«Thai temaki» which had shrimp and their special thai sauce). Just note that the Groupon deal does not combine with any other offer(they recently had a discount offer if you had a valid college student ID) including Unilocal check-in offers. 4 stars for a good first time experience, and kudos to the very patient waitress who had to deal with our indecisiveness and also kept tabs on the our orders to let us know when we finally hit the $ 40 requirement. This is place is a little hidden; it’s in an area of the plaza you won’t see right off the bat from the main roads. My only qualm about this place is that the temakis are a bit overpriced, because in some places, a temaki(or listed on some menus as «hand rolls») could range from $ 2.50 for the basic ingredients to $ 5 in some of the other menus I recalled. But the $ 7 you pay includes customization — you can substitute ingredients, and there’s a much more variety of temakis. Well, that’s the only major thing keeping it from being 5 stars in my book. Thanks for the rec, Stephen and Liane!

If you like Sushimi, you have to check out Makis Place. It’s still fairly new to Kendall and they don’t have a fryer yet. Don’t worry tempura lovers, it’s coming. Go anyway because the fish is very fresh. Miso for 3 $, you can’t go wrong. The portions are on the smaller side but the cost is too, so you can order a few different things and still be pleasantly surprised by how low your bill is. The service is friendly and aim to please. On my second visit to Makis Place it just got better. Alex was making the rolls today and they were noticeable larger, matching the size of other Sushi restaurants in the area but a few dollars less each. The server Bianca was very friendly and quick to provide whatever we needed. The fish was just as fresh as the first time.

I’ve always lamented that it’s hard to find a place in Miami where I can just go in for a quick bite of sushi, say, as a snack or a tie over to the next meal, without having to commit to full service and a whole roll. Makis Place sounds exactly like the type of place I’m looking for, so I hopped in for a try. Only later did I found out that this place is a franchise from Brazil, and that it actually is the same company that opened a store in Coconut Grove, which I didn’t try due to the mixed review and which had closed down. Okay, don’t let that cloud my judgment. Walking in, service is very good, my maki came out really fast. Place is new and clean. At first glance there seems to be a wide selection of makis, but on second look it’s mostly a varying combination of a few ingredients: salmon, cream cheese, green onion, and a variety of sauce. A few has shrimp or tuna. Unfortunately I usually avoid salmon at inexpensive restaurants, I just don’t like the idea of artificial coloring(hope I am not surprising you, dear reader, but yes, that beautiful orange color comes from coloring in the feed… in such quantity that the flesh of the fish turns from grey to orange), not to mention soon-to-be GMO. I hope they will add other types of fish or ingredients to expand the menu. I got a roll with tuna, and another with mushroom. I ended up liking the mushroom a lot, it has good flavor, if a bit salty, but the rice took out some of the saltiness. Tuna was just okay, didn’t find it particularly fresh or flavorful. Maybe I didn’t order their best items. Also, I realized that this place is not cheap at all. Each hand roll is $ 7 or $ 8, the 2 for $ 12 deal only applies to a few basic ones. For about $ 15, I can actually go to the average sushi place, non fast food, and get a pretty fancy roll, which definitely tastes better, with more varied ingredients, than two mediocre makis I get here. I love the restaurant’s concept, I just hope they’ll improve on the ingredient variety and price point.

I had an exceptional experience at this restaurant on Sunday afternoon. Both the server and sushi chef offered excellent customer service. The food was good and unique combinations. They went above and beyond to cater to my two year old daughter. The sushi chef even made her little rice balls in eel sauce to snack on. I’ll definitely be back.

A solid 4. Came across this place through my friend(and super cool Unilocaler) Stephen C. when scanning for some Groupon deals during Black Friday weekend sales. With no hesitation we snagged the 24 $ for 40 $ deal with hopes of a new sushi spot(in Kendall!). Super psyched finding out that this place aim towards temakis which I rarely get to order in most of my casual sushi spots. First thing noted was how clean and simple this place is inside, a straight forward eatery. Scanning the menu my honey KC and I instantly settled on the salmon sashimi and get this, it was 10 $ for 10! These aren’t paper thin slices neither haha. They have a couple of temaki combination selections and a ‘make your own temaki’ with choices of fish(s)(tuna, salmon, and white fish) and topping(s)(cream cheese, avocado, scallions, and mayo) for 7 $ or 12 $ for 2. I opted to make my own for my first temaki which had tuna, salmon, avocado, scallions, and mayo. YUM! I had to restrain from ordering a duplicate since we were determined to try as many selections as possible before declaring favorites. Does anyone do that too? KC had their mushroom salmon cream temaki, also very tasteful. So far so good! Next up I ordered the salmon skin temaki which wasn’t as crispy as I’d hoped for. Possibly due to the amount of eel sauce on top. Not bad. KC decided to go for the cameroon temaki next which was surprising good for a ‘thai temaki’. At this point we hit our 40 $ deal and decided to end our tasting here. I think we ordered just the right amount too for our stomach capacity. Just a note, we were assured that our Groupon deal cannot be combined with any special offers( Unilocal check in offer for a free starter). Our server was super friendly and patient with our lengthy temaki decision making and though this place may be tucked away in the plaza it surely doesn’t disappoint.

The boy and I are always on the hunt for a good sushi place. We. Love. Sushi. So, once we saw that this location was flashing its gorgeous«Hot and New» sign on Unilocal,we knew we had to check it out. On Kendall and 107? Even better(as we’re local to West Kendall)! Couple that with the fact that there’s a $ 24 for $ 40 Groupon sale going on? Why, yes. I’ll take one of those, tyvm! Here’s the breakdown of what we ordered, which I’d like to do a repeat of soon. Very soon. Maybe I’ll order this for lunch today… ;) TEMAKIS(or handrolls) Come. Eat. Try their temaki. We ordered 4 handrolls: 2 orders of «Salmon,» «2 mixed fish»(tuna/salmon), and«California». Everything was delicious. For toppings on the salmon and 2 mixed fish, we had avocado and asked to have eel sauce mixed in — which was a delight for my tastebuds. We also asked for extra eel sauce and spicy mayo on the side, which made everything that much more savory. Judging by the boy’s expression of delight with his«2 Mixed Fish» handroll, I’m thinking this was a good one, lol. For the«California,» which has mango in it also, it was deliciously sweet and refreshing. Wrapped up in a crisp seawood wrapper. It was also very light! Tasted superb with spicy mayo sprinkled on each bite, haha. I would order this again. SASHIMI The boy and I ordered the 10 slices of salmon sashimi for $ 10. Let me say, first, that we love salmon. Next, 10 for $ 10?! This is amazing. We will be back. They weren’t skimpy with the cuts, either, which I love. The portion was wonderful and the quality of the salmon was good. Mixed in with some eel sauce, and you had us at hellooo(*Adele voice*). STARTERS&DRINKS We also ordered a miso soup(super tasty, if a little salty, but still so good!) and a Lychee juice. The Lychee juice comes in a juice box, and imo, pretty pricy. But it was delicious. If you like lychees the way I like lychees, then I recommend trying this at least once. Don’t worry about being viewed as an elementary school student at recess with juice box in hand. Try it. You will like it. Or I’m taking your lunch money!(Just kidding. :)) Overall, this place was great for the price. The ambience inside was quaint but nice, and our waitress was a total sweetheart. So yes, thanks Makis Place for the delicious dinner last night! We’ll be back soon. :)

It’s a cute place and very very cleaned! I definitely recommend the Nacho Maki Cream, only difference is I customized it into a roll but no matter it was delicious! Brittni was our server and she was a sweet heart, she was very caring and always checked if needed anything. They also have great college specials!

This new temaki place just opened up a couple months ago so we went to check it out. We had just bought a groupon $ 24 for $ 40 worth of food. The place was well kept clean and had modern décor. I just wished they had a tv !!(It would bring in more customers) This place has a lot of potential since it’s delicious and affordable. We got our order take out because the heat game to go but I had ordered the salmon sushi roll and a miso soup. The salmon roll was yummy and it had a nice amount of salmon in it. My bf ordered the ginger salmon and smoked salmon mix. He couldn’t stop bragging about how delicious it tasted and he will be going back everyday. The manager and staff was really nice and helpful and I really do hope this place thrives.

Good quality sushi. Ordered the crunchy tuna temaki, tuna roll, and the sweet temaki(which was actually free). Only downside was that we were looking for something quick and it took quite a while to get our roll. But the taste of the food was so good that I had to give it 5 stars. Will come again! :)

This place was very nice, clean, great bathrooms(which is usually a selling point for me) and the food… Was DELICIOUS we had some sashimi, some sushi rolls, and their signature hand rolls. It was all so fresh and tasty. And the service was excellent and food came out very quick. Would definitely recommend for a quick lunch.

Any place that features Tabasco sauce is okay by me. Never thought I’d see it featured at a Japanese place. There was a bottle of it on my table. Very fresh ingredients and generous portions. Sushi ain’t cheap but this place is affordable. Service is great. Brittini made great recommendations gave great descriptions and was right on. I had Sunomono salad that was tangy, crunchy. The downside of the salad was it has that fake crab stick. It was delicious though. I added several dashes of Tabasco and even drank the leftover dressing. I also had to very good Makis: The Hot Tuna and the Nachomaki(salmon). Both featured fresh fish in a generous portion. The other great thing there is the ice. It’s that little tubular ice that’s great for crunching. It’s a small store with and the décor leaves a lot to be desired. There was also a makeshift desk in the dining room. It’s not a fancy place but that doesn’t look good. I still think this place is very, very good.

Forgot to start my review and photograph the temaki when the food came out, so only one picture of the last one that came out. Miso soup was great. Thick and full of flavor. Not watered down like some unfortunate misos. Seaweed wraps were fresh and crunchy. Generous with the fillings — it’s not just fish on top and rice filler, there’s fish throughout. Nacho temaki was… Interesting? Good salmon but the nacho flavored Dorito topping was an odd choice. The rest of the temaki we had we’re all excellent! Price is absolutely right, though. We will definitely be back.
