food is ok but watch the bill it fluctuates weekly i order the same every week and it should be 19.46 w tax but ive been charged 19.95, 20.00, 21.50 just fyi not sure they report all earnings as no receipts are printed

I lived right around the corner from these guys, and I really miss this restaurant. I cannot find Chili Verde anywhere in the Houston area, so I’m very sad but I have moved away from J Penos!
They have a very large variety of burritos available for purchase. You can order any burrito at any time. You pay at the first window and usually you get the food at the second window, if they’re super busy especially. The only taco I can truly recommend is the Chili Verde, but I actually have another tacos and they were very good as well. If you like salsa please ask for extra because it’s also good, but they put in those little plastic cups and so it sometimes is just not enough for someone like me who loves their salsa with their breakfast tacos.

I love this place their food is great. I like their brisket tacos with azadero and green sauce. These tacos are just the best tacos you can eat. The gorditas are just fabulous last time I tried them with azado and they were just perfect.
I read the bad reviews of some people but come on this is Midland and the servers from here are not that good. One time I waited for ONE HOUR in a breakfast «fast restaurant» and I never got a coffee refill. My boyfriend got mad because it was just ridiculous no food or drinks after an hour. The waitress finally came with the wrong order, but we were so hungry that we didn’t notice until we were about to pay.
All I can say about penos is that sometimes they do take time to make the gorditas or the steaks, but other than that their servers are just ok.

Another average West Texas Mexican restaurant.
The shining points are the extremely good salsa and their homemade tortilla chips. The main food portions are okay. Slightly better than average.
When I walked in there were two waitresses and only three tables including me so I figured service should be exceptional. Although I got my chips, salsa, drink and menu quickly, they were quite slow to refill them even though one waitress had no table and walked my my empty chip basket and water multiple times. Typical West Texas servers.
Back to that salsa. It’s reallllly good. Good amount of spice, not too tomato-​y. I could eat that salsa all day. It paired really well with their unique and homemade chips. They’re different but good with their crunch and crispness.
I ordered the omelette with brisket and a side of pancakes. The brisket in the omelette tastes oven cooked. The omelette was alright but not amazing. They have uniquely cut breakfast potatoes which were decent. Could use more crispness and salt. The pancakes were OK, they weren’t burnt like one review showed but were pretty gummy.
Oh, the décor in this place. Umm. Looks like a bad attempt at an Italian restaurant with the tacky fake plants and cheap wall art. Kinda hard to believe someone actually thought it looks good.
Overall, average Mexican food. The only thing that gets it a 4 star instead of 3 is the salsa.

We walked in and two employees where near door. No one greatest us at all.
The Saadi was too watery and do not understand why sent out burnt pancakes.
We been here few times, so sad see place gone downhill so fast.
The chairs are so disgusting and the tables that are pushed together are very dirty

Midland restaurants are often known for poor service, but our experience here was off the charts, in a bad way. We had to ask for menus, after sitting at the table for quite a while. Two of our orders were incomplete. We asked for the missing items, but they never arrived. Outside of receiving our food, our server never came by the table. Drinks were never refilled. The food was not appetizing, either visually or in taste. We will never return to this establishment.

I’ve been eating here for years. Hit the drive through on the weekends for a large menudo to go and a bottle of Mexican coke. It’s the best! The green chili cheeseburger and homemade fries are really good, as are the burritos.

This place has great breakfast. Salsa is very fresh and pretty hot. I had the huevos rancheros with a spicy stew meat instead of sausage, it was great, also added with the pancake which was good. The waitresses were fast and checked up on me often. Not sure if my eggs were cooked fresh and the coffee kind of weak. I’ll defiantly go back.

The salsa is good and spicy. Tortilla chips are home made. Gorditas are a must. I had one ground beef & the other beans & asadero cheese with green chiles. Very pleased with the freshness of the gordita cornmeal pocket. Meat & beans were very tasty and well seasoned. My only suggestion to them is to acquire a fountain drink setup. There are no fountain drinks so if you order a soda they will bring you a cold bottled soda. Ask for a cup of ice if you’re like me and like your soda with ice. Also horchata & limonada seem to be a mix instead of the real deal. My wife ordered chile relleno and she was pleased with them also. Kids ordered quesadillas and grilled cheese, all the kids loved their food. I also noted that the restaurant was very clean, restrooms included. Always a plus in my book.
If the owners read this review, add a changing table in the restrooms & possibly buy a car seat sling.

GReat fast place to get a burrito!

This place has some of the best breakfast burritos in town! My wife and I order the sausage, egg, potato, and cheese at least once a week. The hot sauce is amazing also. Service is fast and they have a drive thru also.
