My boyfriend had to pay 25 $ for 10 pieces of sushi. That’s 2 $ per sushi I wouldn’t recommend it.

This place is a hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall. Ate here for the 1st time today at the request of a friend for her birthday. From the outside it doesn’t look like much but when you step inside you are instantly greeted by the pleasing décor and even more pleasant staff. Everyone said hello and greeted me with a welcome. Our party of 5 was sat immediately at a great corner table with full view of the restaurant. The food was superb. I haven’t been to a great Japanese restaurant since we lived in Hawaii. This place delivers. I often judge a Japanese restaurant on 2 things. 1. The oyaku-don and 2. the inari. Yes, these are simple dishes, but my favorites. Both were superb. Sushi and sashimi are incredibly fresh and delicious. The bento boxes are generous in portion. We received salads and miso soup before our meal. Be sure to have the fuji apple sake and have the banana tempura for dessert. This is place is a real winner with delicious food, delightful service, and the most fair prices I’ve ever seen. Thanks Sushi Zen for a wonderful experience I will make the drive from Woodinville to eat here again.

The chicken karage and Katsu-Dan are delicious. Spicy tuna roll was good too. Ask for a side of spicy mayo. I like that your meal comes with pickled seaweed and miso soup.

I’d been craving some chirashi and a friend told me about the salmon-ikura don that she frequently gets here. So when I went to dinner with her and her sister that is what I had to order as they are two of my favorites for nigiri and gunkan sushi. We started off with miso soup and sunomono, which comes with your meal, and assorted tempura, calamari, gyoza and edamame. The tempura and calamari were fried to perfection, not at all greasy and light. The calamari was very tender and flavorful and was topped with a citrusy cream sauce and the edamame was addictive. I could have eaten the whole bowl by myself. It so happened that we all ordered the salmon-ikura don for our entrée. I was a bit disappointed that the salmon sashimi was sliced paper thin but it was a delish bowl of ikura goodness. For $ 18.95, they could have put a bit more salmon. The plum wine that I got went well with this dish. Sushi Zen is a cute place in a strip mall. It is small so it filled up pretty quick during the dinner rush. The staff was friendly and attentive. The price is average for a Japanese restaurant. They also remember their customers. It was my friend’s sister’s second time to dine there and the waitress remembered her. There were two tables that had ordered sushi platters. I want to try that on my next visit.

Our family’s favorite sushi place. It’s a great place to bring the kids. They have a children’s menu, or opt for the happy hour menu for really great sushi at a discounted price. Sushi Zen even has chopsticks just for the kids. The prices are reasonable, and the service is usually great. I would would recommend Sushi Zen to anyone in the north end who want some great sushi. Happy hour is Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Went to Sushi Zen for lunch and the atmosphere is pretty small and quiet. We came in right when they opened at 12 and many people were waiting for them to open as well. I’m not from the Washington area, so I always think that’s a good sign. We were seated right away and our server was very attentive and came back often to check up on us. I ordered the 10 piece Nigiri with a spicy tuna roll. The nigiri was very fresh and knew the difference from Chicago sushi. There’s also wasabi underneath the fish, so be cautious of that before dipping into your soy sauce that was wasabi. The prices I thought were a little overpriced, but the freshness of the fish was worth it. Good food and nice service. Oh cannot forget about the Fried Ice Cream! A must try! The dough is so good and makes you want more!

Sushi Zen’s strong point is their sushi, of course. I’ve been here many, many times in the last several years, but in all honesty the last few times have not been as great as the first several. I do feel as though the food here went downhill sometime a couple of years ago. Tonight, we both opted for the Kitchen Bento. This comes with your choice of entrée, i.e. Teriyaki, Katsu, and a few others, along with veggie and prawn tempura, white rice, Gyoza, and California rolls. While everything was flavorful, the main entrée in the box is the Teriyaki. My chicken was literally just a grilled chicken breast, not marinated at all, no seasonings at all, with a smattering of teriyaki sauce. As my husband said, it is like they rely solely on the sauce to call it Teriyaki. I’ve had MUCH better teriyaki at your run-of-the-mill Teriyaki joint like Toshi’s. The Teriyaki Beef is a little more tasty than the chicken, and is more like sliced flank steak with the aforementioned smattering of teriyaki sauce. I don’t remember it being like this when we first started going to this restaurant. The only other comment I would have to say in regards to that, is that although it was a Friday night, it wasn’t all that busy, but our food still arrived to our table luke warm. Having said that though everything was tasted fantastic. We like the tempura, and their sushi is excellent. They give you a few appetizers to start with as well, namely cucumber and shrimp salad, and miso soup. Both are quite good. All in all, I do recommend sushi Zen because the restaurant itself is nice, seems clean, the staff is friendly, and their sushi is great. Just be careful when you start to veer off the beaten path for something other than that.

Very warm greeting as I walked in and had a nice conversation with one of the chefs about nude beaches in the South Pacific. He said he liked this show, Survivor, but Naked and Afraid was better. Ordered a house hot sake, as per usual, and a beer with one quail egg. He didn’t know what i was doing until the quail egg rose to the top and i chugged my beer. Really good house hot sake too. I ordered my usually spicy tuna since it’s a new place and the Ichi Roll, named after Seattle’s Ichiro Suzuki. Clever! Very good place and I’ll definitely be returning.

Great fresh sushi! I went here for my first time having sushi and they were very helpful and even remade my rolls when it said I liked my fish more cooked! Great staff, quick service, and delicious food from appetizers and sushi to dessert! Definitely a great first place to try sushi, I plan on only coming here do sushi now!

Pros: The food was good and our waitress was very nice. The restaurant is clean and the atmosphere was nice. Cons: The menu was unimpressive; i found multiple rolls that had almost the same exact ingredients except one thing switched out for another ingredient. Another thing is that they brought out the sushi first instead of the two kids meals we ordered, which we found kind of odd and kind of annoying because now we have children badgering us about their food.

Came here for a late night teriyaki run. Not very impressed. Smaller portions of rice, virtually no salad and a small, tasteless miso soup. Haven’t tried the sushi though. I heard that’s very good.

I was excited to try Sushi Zen as I had it bookmarked for some time now. I was a little disappointed. We ordered about 5 rolls, unagi sushi, salmon nigiri, chirashi don, and chicken karage. The food was mostly good. We liked 3 out of the 5 rolls ordered and the fish was fresh. The chicken karage wasn’t great. It was pretty bland and you definitely needed to use the sriracha mayo. The above average food did not make up for the fact that it took forever for everything to come out. It took about 15 minutes from the time we sat down to when we ordered and then we waited about 30 minutes for our meal. First out was the chirashi don followed 5 – 10 minutes later by the karage. Does it take 40 minutes to fry 6 or 7 pieces of chicken?! It wasn’t SUPER busy either so I don’t understand what the wait was. The waitresses and waiters were really nice and very attentive to the tables but the entire meal should have been 45 – 50 minutes long and not 1.5 hours and that’s what irritates me.

Great, fresh fish. Lots of variety. The Salmon Lemon roll was fantastic. I really enjoyed the miso. However their customer service is slow and lacking attention to detail. It was not a busy night! Our appetizer was never put in to the kitchen, and so our sushi arrived without the tempura ever showing up. We just cancelled it. Drinks were also slow to be refilled and we sat at our table for 10 or so minutes before our waiter gave us menus. Bummer! We also watched a couple walk in to pick up a to go order. They waited at the counter for 35 minutes before it was ready(they told us they’d ordered via phone 45 minutes ago). Great food, nice atmosphere. But lacking pretty heavily in the organization and«respect for customers’ time» departments.

Everyone here is so friendly! Our waiter was super attentive and nice. I was here for lunch, and opted for one of the lunch specials. I got sushi deluxe special, so for $ 15 I it 8 pieces of nigiri and 6 pieces of rolls. The nigiri was wonderful! So fresh and beautiful. The rolls might have been a little lacking. I compare all sushi to my favorite place, Oshima in Everett, which I feel has more tasty rolls. All in all, I would totally come back! Great spot.

Still excellent food with hit or miss service, but as a sushi reviewer I can say with certainty it is the quality stuff. This is NOT conveyor belt sushi or all-you-can-eat fare, this is real nigiri and sashimi. Zen offers plenty of fusion and hybrid sushi but also hearty helpings of the traditional stuff. The zen special is ten pieces of omakase nigiri, which is basically a sampler of the ala carte menu, plus six maki pieces which are quite good. Sushi Spott next door relies on Groupon sales and Sushi Ring /Sushi Roll Njoy are both all you can eat, only Zen and Oshima offer the real deal. Both are good, but I pick zen more often due to distance only. Honestly Sushi Zen is my favorite stop in Everett and I will miss it when I fly back to Connecticut, I hope you enjoy it if you’re in the area.

Been there twice. 1st time with a date and the fish was good. My only complaint was the sake selection very poor. (As in no selection at all) You can only get one type of hot sake. If you don’t drink then this is the spot for you. No I’m not an alcoholic but I prefer nice sake over beer with my sashimi. 2nd time by myself before closing and I could tell it was the head chef that prepared my order. On point and very nice. Great service!

I will never come here again. I use to come here all the time, with family and with friends. The last time I went here I took my bf for the first time. We waited for awhile for a seat even though there were seats everywhere. Our server didn’t greet or interact with us at all really. He just took our order, brought our food and than picked up our check. Our waters were never refilled and no one ever asked if we needed anything. It’s was insane. He kind of had an attitude. To make it even worse I asked one of the waitresses for some more water since I didn’t know where our server was and she looked at me like I was crazy. She even looked annoyed as she got us some more water. My mind was blown. The sushi is good here but not good enough to warrant that kind of service.

Just 5 stars for their service. OMG the girl waitress is SOOOO nice! Always with a smile on her face. And everyone is just really nice from when you walk in to when you leave. Their food is really good too and it comes relatively fast. I feel like you can’t really go wrong with the items on their menu. Got the Salmon Lemon Roll once and the Polar Bear another time, both were fantastic!

Clean, modern, and friendly environment and staff. Plenty of parking in front and across the lot near Safeway. Fantastic lunch specials that include complimentary salad and unlimited refills on miso soup. Amazing selection of rolls and sushi alternatives, a decent beer/wine/sake selection, and a good kids menu. My favorites are the Salmon Lemon Roll, Crouching Tuna Hidden Shrimp Roll, White Christmas Roll, and Fuji Apple-Lychee sake! Meals come with a small serving of edamame and salad. Always enjoy myself here
