We’ve been consistently impressed with the food and service at Number 9. I’m not sure how many times we’ve been here — maybe 10 or 12 times, and we’ve enjoyed it every time. Sometimes the service is better than other times, but overall there is a sense in the dining room that the staff is professional and really cares. The food is also imaginative and consistently very well composed and prepared. The only(and I really do mean only) criticism that I have is that the menu doesn’t change very much. Maybe when things are consistently so good, it’s tempting to stay with what works, but I’d like to see more seasonal variety and more evolution of the menu. That said, we’ll be going back again soon.

SOGLADWECAMEHERE! We went for Sunday dinner(a heads up — their prix fixe menu is only for weekdays) on a weekend getaway from NYC. We’ve been to quite a few nice restaurants in the city, but this hidden gem definitely ranks among our top 5! Not as fancy with plating or complex ingredients, but everything was soo delicious. The service was amazing — to our surprise, given some past reviews. The food came quickly, they were very gracious when we asked to switch tables, and even asked if anything was wrong with the food when they noticed I wasn’t done with my appetizer(nothing was wrong — it was fantastic, but I wanted to save room!). The bread was warm and came quickly. We loved the spaetzle appetizer — only ordered 1 to share but they kindly split it into 2 big bowls for us. The bf ordered a medium hanger steak(comes with 1 choice of sauce and 2 sides), which was beautifully cooked. I got the duck, which came with crispy skin, potato rosti(really good, like a hash brown pancake), and white asparagus — soo good!!! A must-try.

I stopped here with my wife on my way up to the Berkshires. Exhausted after a day of flying and then driving, we really wanted a relaxing meal and something decent. Number 9 was just what we needed. I had the prix fixe, an appetizer of spetzle that was exceptional, an entrée of salmon that was very good and a molten lava cake that was again, exceptional. My wife, who’s vegan, was accommodated with a vegetable plate that was very good, as well. Oh, and the wine recommendations were also great. The service was wonderful. They were very attentive without being overly so. If there’s anything I wasn’t thrilled about, the dining room and entryway really need updating. I like the country inn feel. It was nice to have lots of space and sit by the window. But the place just seemed a little run down. I still give it four stars because I care more about the food.

This was my second time visiting number nine, and both experiences were wonderful. The seafood(oysters and crudo combination) was as good as I’ve ever had. The sweet pea soup was exactly what you would hope for on a hot summer day: refreshing and delicious. For our entrées, we ordered the pasta with pesto and other vegetables along with the wienerschnitzel, and we substituted the side for the wienerschnitzel, which is usually a potato salad, with a spaetzle that was delicious. Right down the line, the service was great and the restaurant itself was very comfortable. No complaints at all(except that they are only open for dinner). Can’t wait to go back.

Very nice restaurant that I’ve been to a few times. I will agree that service can be a bit slower than you’d expect, but by now we have simply adjusted to it. My best luck has been with the beef. I got a coffee-rubbed ribeye that was one of the better pieces of meat I’ve ever eaten and also very much enjoyed the steak frites. Worth a look if you are looking for a nice dinner spot in Millerton.

Food is outstanding and service is fantastic. Specialty cocktails are always worth trying. Food is often locally sourced and the restaurant is very supportive of local farms. Soups are killer and the soufflé is never to be missed. Truly a talented chef.

Our night out was spectacular. We enjoyed a «semi-private» room for my brother-in-law’s 50th birthday. The menu has a slight Germanic tinge. One relative had the Wienerschnitzel which looked delicious. The Barbera was a great choice for a versatile red. All of the children had burgers at various levels of cooking. It might have been better to dedicate a staff member to our party, or bring the food out faster, but all in all it was a wonderful evening.

I really do enjoy no. 9. It’s usually not very crowded, but the food is solid and the service is friendly.

2nd time here the food is very good. Problem is that service was friendly but PAINFULLY slow. I think it was similar last time. Appetizer oysters were good, pretty standard. 2 soup appetizer was good, a bit plain though. Spaetzle was absolutely wonderful. Sea bass was ok, lamb a little tough but perfectly proportioned and tasty. Outstanding beer selection was nice. Ambiance was nice, especially in the back. Although all of the service was pleasant it took about 45 minutes to receive the appetizer course. I had the feeling that the wait staff is chronically understaffed rather than«Joe and Mary called in sick» Bottom line, food is very good, ambiance nice, great beer selection, friendly staff but way to slow to come back.

I have been to this restaurant twice. The food at the restaurant is excellent. The service is also very good. I highly recommend the butternut squash soup. Mmmm. simply delicious. Nothing beats a hot, tasty soup on a cold, snowy day. I also recommend the Tagliatelle. I tried the Monk fish entrée once and I was not too impressed. I stayed at their bed and breakfast inn. The accommodations were definitely not worth the price. The room was so so. However I made special request for steel cut oat meals for breakfast and they made it everyday for me.

Very very slow service. When food arrived it was cold. My wife ate pasta and was sick all night. Very bad experience.

Third time and probably the last time. Food is excellent but the practically non-existent wait staff and sluggish service deters from enjoying the food.

Went here for a birthday celebration with our family. We had reservations and were greeted and seated promptly. Drink orders taken immediately. The adults had oysters to start… absolutely sublime… and the mignonette sauce was perfect, thank you! Adults had the steak special, cooked perfectly. I had kale and sautéed mushrooms on the side, all delightful. Children had a hangar steak and burger with fries… all pronounced the best they’d ever had. Pinot noir was SO good and they had a beer my husband had never had… which is rare and delighted him. I had cherry strudel and the rest of my family had molten chocolate cake. They put a candle in my husband’s and my family discreetly sang. The cherry strudel was mouth watering… I am not sure the Hungarian bakers in my family could do any better. My family loved the molten chocolate cake, and they comped my husband’s dessert for his birthday, which was a thoughtful touch. Service, as always, was beautifully done and added to our enjoyment. It was a top of the line experience… thank you!!!

Restaurant No. 9 is in a little town called Millerton… about an hour and 45 minutes north from NYC near the border of NY/CT. It was worth the 40 minute drive from Hyde park, where we were staying because we ate at the Culinary Institute. Everything on the menu looked great… sweetbreads, foie, pea soup, …it was hard to choose. I went with the sweetbreads as an app and the weinerschnitzel for an entrée. Both were very good. They have a great local beer selection. It would be cool if they did a tasting menu.

Excellent food. I’ve only been there twice but both times every appetizer and entrée has been excellent. Great scallops, surprisingly fresh oysters, fabulous duck and hanger steak. I’ve got reservations to go there on New Year’s Eve. A really first-rate restaurant.

Incredibly disappointing. Ate here a few weeks ago with my wife for an anniversary dinner. I had a lobster soup for my first course– YUCK. A bunch of chewy, overcooked lobster pieces served in a nasty broth. My main was a pasta with vegetables sitting in an inch of water– totally tasteless. My wife’s meal was drowned in tarragon. Best thing I can say about Number 9 is our waitress was nice and the ice cream I had with dessert was quite good. Overall it was pretty crappy for a place that is charging Manhattan prices in Millerton.

The food here is just to dye for. I had a hanger steak the other day, and it was cooked to perfection. My mother had the mushroom risotto and she loved it. I will say that the menu is very limited, but that’s typical in a more upscale place like this. The presentation was fabulous, though I didn’t find the service to be the best, but that wasn’t really much to complain about. All in all, I would recommend it.

This is my second review of number 9. I do not normally do a second review of any restaurant but I am making an exception in this case. Number 9 hosted a Farm To Table event with the local growers in the area and Millbrook winery. It was broken into six meal and wine selections. All the food was created by Tim Cocheo and his staff. Mr. Cocheo was able to use the local growers such as Herondale Farm and Sol Flower Farm to create amazing selections such as Chicken Ballontine and Duo of Beef. He was then able pair these creations with the perfect wine selections. Representatives from the growers and the winery were on hand to explain there products and Millbrook also had a staff member explain the background of each wine selection. Over all it was an amazing evening. I hope that Number 9 hosts this event again in the future.

This outstanding new restaurant opened up in Millerton, NY in early November 2009. Having seen an announcement of the opening, we tried No. 9 for dinner about a week after it opened and were not disappointed. This is an excellent new establishment with an outstanding chef and a highly trained young staff. The restaurant is located in a well designed, comfortable space within the Simmons Way Village Inn off of Main Street in Millerton. We had read online that the chef Tim Cocheo(he’s just 31) has worked at Wallse in NYC, one of our all-time favorites. The starters we tried, Roasted Cauliflower Soup and Porcini Risotto were superb and the Weinserschnitzel was among the best we’ve tasted anywhere(and we have tried quite a few.). It was absolutley delicious, and cooked brilliantly. This restaurant is a terrific addition to the upstate dining scene, it seems certain to develop a loyal local following. We’ll be back for dinner and for brunch, and we’ll make sure to book well ahead on weekends. One suggestion — the bar should stock«local» spirits from small distillers in upstate NY and the Berkshires, such as Greylock Gin and Core Vodka. UPDATE: SEPTEMBER2010 This update reflects our third visit to No. 9 in Millerton, NY. I was thoroughly impressed on our initial visits in 2009 as reflected in my first Unilocal review. Having had the occasion to visit again in mid-September 2010, I am pleased to report that the restaurant has only become stronger and more impressive — in cuisine, service, and atmosphere. The quality of every course, including cocktails, has only become more refined since our first visits. I must sincerely congratulate the owner and chef for the quality achieved — we feel lucky to be close enough to visit this establishment regularly. It is a great addition to an already vibrant Millerton, and one we hope to visit many times in the months and years to come. And to reiterate — there in not a finer Weinerschnitzel to be found. Vielen Danke.
