I ordered delivery and was excited that you had to option to order online and/or over the phone. I was debating to do Star Moon or order something else through GrubHub…(I had a $ 10 credit that I’m waiting to use!) My interaction with the delivery driver is terrible. She told me to go downstairs and to get my food. I asked her if she could bring it upstairs. She hesitated and complained that there was no parking and for me to go downstairs. I agreed. 1st trip, I walked downstairs and didn’t see anyone with food in their hands, so I thought that maybe she was at the other door. Nope, nothing. Slightly annoyed, I went back upstairs and answered my phone. She claimed that she saw me from her car and that I needed to go back downstairs and complained again that there was no parking. I said that I saw no one… and she said to meet her downstairs. 2nd trip, When I FINALLY met up with her, she handed me my food. When CLEARLY, there was street parking. She the delivery driver lied to me. I told her there was street parking available. Then she claimed that it was against company policy to enter inside an apartment building. WTF? If that was true, WHYDIDN’T YOUSAYTHATATTHEFIRSTPLACE? Now, it just sounds like you’re telling another lie. She also told me that for sauce on the side — it’s an extra $ 2. NOONETOLDME, so I didn’t have the appropriate cash ready and gave her what I had. I wasn’t about to run around my apartment building for the 3rd. This issue could have easily been resolved and not escalate so quickly. Poor customer service and experience. After all is said and done, I wish I would of ordered somewhere else that didn’t give me the run around or excuses to provide awesome customer service.

As a long time resident of S. Mpls, I really want local restaurants to succeed. I’ve tried Star Moon a number of times, and have had quite a few bad experiences. I finally need to give my perspective. Let me tell you about my last experience: I called and ordered around 6PM on a week night. Two hours later, my food had still not arrived. I called. They claimed the food was on its way. 20 minutes later it still was not there(mind you, the restaurant is a mile from my house). It finally arrived. I tipped the driver 20%(as I always do). Wrong order. I called. I explained my dilemma. The host put a woman on the phone who screamed at me. When I requested I not be charged, she refused. «YOUWILLPAY!!! YOUWILLPAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!» she screamed. I got my credit card bill today. I was charged. The food I received(that I did not order) was sub par. If you’re looking for good Chinese food, this isn’t the place. It will do in a pinch if you’re hungry, have lots of time, and don’t mind not getting what you ordered. This is probably the WORST delivery restaurant I’ve encountered in my entire life. I really wanted to support this restaurant as I do all restaurants local to me, but in this case, I must give a «thumbs down» to Star Moon. Take your business elsewhere.

I like their food. Used to be my go-to place but I’ve found a couple places I like better, but they still have good, satisfying Chinese. The Szechuan Dumplings in Red Hot Oil are my favorite and I haven’t found anything like them anywhere else so I’ll still be hitting up the Star Moon on occasion. Those things rule. And I agree with Laura P., their wontons are awesome and I love that tub of sweet and sour sauce. I even put it on the SDiRHO. So good. The one thing I will caution about this place is they seem to try and overcharge every time. We have their current menu, the one they have in the store, but our total always comes to 15% more than what it should. They always fix it when we pick up our food, now that we notice, and I’m not sure what’s up with that. I hate to be one of those people but just watch what they are charging you.

Ok «foodies» calm down with your 1 star reviews. You are not on Food Network and based on the menu/restaurant itself you went into this experience with too high of expectations. I love this place! Is it ever going to be a top spot for takeout in Minneapolis? No, but is this going to be a little neighborhood Chinese go to with yummy food at great prices? Absolutely! I LOVE the food. I’ve tried many Chinese places in Minneapolis and this is the only one I’ve re visited. I received a menu in my mailbox a month ago and have gotten take out 3 times since. Staff has always been pleasant It’s a small family run place and not all of the employees speak English well. But so what? It’s great food for a great price and the take out is always ready within 20 minutes. 5 stars!!!

We have given this restaurant 2 chances, regardless of the poor customer service received. The first time, our meals were mediocre at best. The second time we became violently ill from the General Tso’s chicken and egg drop soup. When I called to alert them, I received even worse service, simply advising that I call the health department rather than listening to me and offering a word of apology. Cannot recommend this restaurant… do not eat here!

I’m very sorry to be write this honest yet poor review. It was raining all day and like most people, the thought of takeout was beckoning. I have to admit, this was the *worst* Chinese food I have ever had. We were afraid to give it to the dog(eeek, health inspector?). Go elsewhere if you can.

I’m really disappointed in this place. I thought it might be my new Chinese go to, as I’m sick of Fresh Wok constantly getting my orders wrong and never compensating me with anything other than a bad attitude, but, alas, I was wrong. One day they take AMEX without any issues. The next time I order a week later, this extremely rude employee says that, magically, they’ve never, ever, ever taking AMEX before. Get a clue people. Needless to say, I won’t be calling back.

This is our go to place for Chinese. Tonight may have bee a new record, 12 minutes from order to delivery. I live about eight blocks away. It’s pretty standard Chinese food but always fast and hot. It is family owned and operated with the daughter working the phone. She can be abrupt but gets our order right and if you expect it she’s easy to deal with. I’ve had better but most certainly have had much worse. Final word would be give it a try.

i’m giving Star Moon 5 stars. i read all the reviews when i was trying to decide whether to order take-out from here. yes, the person who answered the phone was a slightly unhappy adolescent… yes the person who delivered my food was what seemed like a 12-year old boy(i was so confused until i realized someone else was driving the van)… yes the restaurant itself is less than stellar… but the food and the price, i mean come on! as someone who considers herself an expert in authentic Chinese food(don’t even try to argue with me on that, because you will lose), Star Moon’s food is definitely not all authentic… though i do think that you can have authentic dishes from these types of restaurants if you know what to order(f’real. sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken… that’s not what Chinese people do best!). i had been in the restaurant earlier this year when i saw it as i left Turtle Bread. i had tried a few other Chinese delivery places and had been sorely disappointed so i went to check this place out. i walked in and was not thrown off by the scarce furniture and dingy atmosphere. this actually reminds me a lot of places in NYs Chinatown and in the Chinatown area of Atlanta. and usually the more hole-in-the-wall, the better. i chatted for a few minutes with someone behind the counter and then left fully intending to try it out. fast forward a half a year… to today. i had no desire to cook and suddenly had the urge for some Chinese delivery. so i called. i got the same attitude that the rest of the reviewers got from the girl on the phone. but i told her what i wanted to order and after she hung up, waited for my food. honestly, i was pleasantly surprised! the singapore chow mei fun was great! i’ve had several versions of singapore chow mei fun from different places, both dingy and fancy, and this was pretty good. it had the best kick to it and had a good balance of chicken, shrimp and mushrooms. also the portion cannot be beat! the cream cheese wontons are amazing. the wonton wrappers are thin and crispy and full of lots of cream cheese. the chicken wings were also fantastic(although i did order them with the intent to suffocate them in buffalo wing sauce). it was good and cheap, especially for the genre of delivery food that Star Moon is in. i will definitely be ordering again and trying something else on the menu!

Below one star. Starmoon on 48th in Minneapolis was nasty and the food was not good. The table had mold on it, the wood. Dont get take out from here. The service was by a 13 year old that was not very helpful and clueless. Sorry to say but I had to write a review… it was that bad! We were given the lunch special menu, at the register, we both mentioned wanting the lunch special and the lower price. She rang it up and it was a lot more. I mentioned it to her and she said thats the price and I said is that the regular size, lunch special or something to that affect, she said yes. The food was already being made, as she called it back. We got our food and it was tiny portions. I looked at the receipt and it was NOT the lunch prices and we were charged for much larger portions. So I asked her if we were getting them in a container to go, and it was a no. I called to talk to a manager or owner and she wouldnt help. Its hard to explain, they just rip people off and dont care. Also this was the dirties, most disgusting place… I cant believe they serve food here, I dont think has been every cleaned. Did I mention the table was disgusting and the wood was molding over. The wall were covered in stuff.

I didn’t have any issues with the phone service. The food on the other hand? I ordered sesame chicken, wontons and a can of coke. Total was approx. $ 15(the minimum for delivery). The wontons were fine, but honestly, how could they screw those up? The chicken? Fatty and chewy. Frankly, I’ll be going back to Chinese Express.

We always order Star Moon because 1. the food is pretty good and 2. because they deliver. That said, be prepared for super rude service when ordering. For that reason, I give them only three stars. If they actually pretended to care, even a little bit, on the phone I would have given them four stars. Sorry, Star Moon. Also, don’t eat in here. It’s a dump inside.

I have now tried just about everything on the menu, as we use Star Moon for a group we sponsor b/c our members love Chinese. I will just say this… ALL of the meat is sub-par. I mean all of it! I’d suggest the shrimp or just veggies. Stay far away from the chow mein for sure. Yeckh! And the egg rolls – chewy! Same with the fried dumplings – super thick and chewy! The Chow Mei Fun is fine, but has very little meat/veggies with it to me substantial. The Lo Mein has the same issue. What’s decent? The cream cheese wontons and the General Tso’s Chicken. Everything else? Bleckh!

I’ve never eaten at Star Moon because I never quite got that far with the«8 year old» that answers the phone. I thought the angst that was conveyed by her tone of voice felt more like it came from a 13 year old girl in the throes of adolescence. The conversation went something like this… Angsty: «Star Moon.» Me: «Hi I’d like to make an order for delivery» Angsty: «What do you want.» Me: don’t remember what i ordered was something like 2 entrees, some wontons, and an order of lo mein Angsty: «Is that… it?» Me: «…is that not enough food?» Angsty: «It is. But… it’s kind of snowy… and kind of far.» Me: «are you serious?» Angsty: «No. It’s fine. We’ll bring what you want.» Me: «um, no thanks.» Angsty: «NO. IT’S FINE. We’ll bring it.» Me: Click. I won’t be calling there again. I don’t care how cheap this place is. If I’m gonna eat crap chinese food I would appreciate it from a place that will value my patronage.

Probably gets an extra star for being right near my house. Not worth dining in at, just 2 tables and a couple of chairs but takeout is ready very fast, and delivery is quick too. No problem with the people that work there, they are all business, and that’s fine with me. I also tip a few bucks even when I pick up and that helps. Food is run of the mill Chinese. The Kung Pao chicken is actually spicy. Other dishes are good. If you live in the area, totally worth it.

I love Chinese food. I crave it. Star Moon delivers to my house, but I often stop through their storefront and place an order to go. My food is usually ready in less than 10 minutes — and has never been screwed up. My wife loves the chicken & broccoli. I love the shrimp toast. The ONLY way to go is to order their«combos». Less than $ 10, includes fried rice & an egg roll. Available to-go, and never limited to a lunch special. If you can handle your Chinese to-go, this is your spot!

I am a big fan of Star Moon. Is it the best Chinese food I’ve ever had? No. Is it the best«chinese foood» I’ve ever had? Definitely. Ordering for delivery is an experience, beginning with the menu which is full of bad grammar and greasy food. Next you call up and speak with a very ornery«woman» — who turns out to be an 8 year old, who really hates it if you pay with a card. You won’t have to wait long for the food to arrive, and when it does, you will most likely either A) need to stand at your door to direct the delivery guy to your house by waving and yelling, or B) be directed to «Take It!» as he hands you your receipt. If you enjoy grease food and funny stories to tell the next day, this is the place for you. If you want something that actually resembles Chinese Cuisine, head to Rainbow on Eat Street.

Okies, convenience gets me here. This place is only a few blocks from my house, so it appeals to the lazy side of me. The food is greasy. It’s fast and easy. Their fried cream cheese wontons are freak’n amazing. They give you a giant tub of red sweet and sour sauce for dipping. I pretty much always order the orange chicken so I can’t really testify for the rest of their menu. The chicken pieces are pretty good, they are deep fried and then smothered in orange sauce. The orange sauce has pieces of orange rinds in it, which is kind of –eh– when you bite into them. There’s broccoli that comes with the dish, as well as some orange slices. They give you your orange chicken in a large tray, it’s more than enough for one person, so you get some leftovers for later. I like the rice, it’s nice and sticky and yummy. The restaurant itself should be considered take out. The seating area is kind depressing and empty. The people working don’t really seem that happy or friendly. It’s borderline clean, I’m not afraid of getting an infection but I don’t really want to eat my food in there either. I like it, but I wouldn’t eat it all the time.

While I can completely understand the 1 to 2 star ratings for this place, there’s something that keeps us coming back. Positives: They deliver and are quick. Large menu full of good ol’ fashion greasy Chinese delights. Inexpensive. Negatives: The 8 year old child/woman that works the phones/register hates life more than most depressed adults. We are constantly amazed at how quick she wants to get you off the phone and has no problem showing major attitude. Of course you feel bad when you see here trying to study for school in between helping her parents run a take out biz. Another negative is that they charge extra for the good hot sauce. lame. If its in your neighbor hood and your feeling lazy, have them deliver.

Wow, Alison, so the grease can actually get worse than Star Moon? I’m amazed, or maybe the word should be shocked… Apart from that, this place is ok — I’ve had it a few times, more as a convenience than anything else. The 12 year old taking the orders seems to have a hard time getting things right… *** Just a note to inform that I’ve stopped eating at this place, even when it’s convenient, after a friend of mine had a bad chicken fried rice experience that I did not want to repeat.
