Called the day before to be told to call the day of, 2 hours prior to arriving. We do this and have a reservation for a window tables… YAY! So we get into town and are 5 mins late so we call and the manager says«oh no problem, you’re fine. We have your table for you.» We get there 3 minutes later and are told because we are 15 minutes late they just gave our table way. New math??? We were 8 minutes late! Good thing the food is good

Ok ok, I know you can’t get any more tourist trap than a Bubba Gump restaurant in Cannery Row, but I love Forrest Gump and really can’t resist! Plus, this Bubba Gump got a great restaurant-wide view of the Bay, so it’s even harder to resist. When I got out of the restaurant, I didn’t really understand the hate — the food is not bad at all! The fried seafood was seasoned and battered well, but my favorite has the cheesy baked shrimps(with the name that has to do with Jenny). Plus, the waitresses are really friendly so there’s nothing to complain about. Well, the price is a little steep with each entrée costing around $ 20 so a group should probably share an entrée instead of having each person getting one, but hey, that’s pretty much standard price in a Californian tourist center! While I would not recommend making an effort just to eat at this Bubba Gump, this is definitely an excellent meal break from the Aquarium because it’s only a block or two away and you don’t have to deal with crowded, overpriced aquarium cafeteria, so escape the crowd to enjoy a nice seafood meal over the Bay here in the movie-inspired atmosphere!

My friends and I went to Bubba Gump for a late lunch after a long day at the aquarium and beach. The food was okay but not worth the prices in my opinion. I got the shrimp scampi which was good but not as flavorful as you’d hope. Our waitress had an attitude and the food took too long to get to the table. Won’t go back, but glad I can say I’ve been.

My fiancé and I had a reservation here tonight. We waited in line and then the two host could not find our name so they told us we would have to wait half an hour to 45 minutes for our table. The hosts also didn’t take blame for not getting our names down. We wouldn’t haven’t called ahead if we wanted to wait! I just thought it would have been nice to at least apologize to us and attempt to compensate in someway for their mistake, especially since there was only two of us. We decided to go elsewhere for our dinner.

We visited Bubba Gump’s on a Saturday night and it was great! Pro Tip: the cashier at Jerkyville USA(next door to Bubba Gump) gave us a coupon for a free appetizer at Bubba Gump! While you’re waiting to be seated, maybe go try a few jerky samples and ask if they still have some! The Good: The food was delicious and I was genuinely surprised by how fast the service was considering how busy it was that night. We had a coupon for a free appetizer of the day, which was chips and a spinach and cheese dip. The dip was very cheesy(in a good way!) and the chips were good too. I had the Cajun Chicken sandwich and it was really flavorful! The chicken was perfectly tender but the sandwich wasn’t spicy at all. I also really liked the french fries that came with the sandwich were also surprisingly good! The fries were nice and thin, lightly salted, and super crispy. For dessert we ordered the Banana Bread Pudding and it was also much tastier than I was expecting. The banana pudding may have been the best banana flavored anything I’ve ever tasted. The bread pudding was extremely moist, and it was topped with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream. The Bad: The wait to be seated was about 30 minutes, which is to be expected at such a popular restaurant on Cannery Row but I do wish they took reservations. Overall, I don’t think we were expecting to get such great food and service here. I give Bubba Gump 4 out of 5 shrimps!

Ahhh, Bubba’s. A tourist magnet for Cannery row… The good: I’ve gone there since they first opened and the staff I’ve encountered are almost always friendly and competent. The view is amazing. The food can be pretty good, depending on what you get. Same for the drinks. Not so good: …and then again, it can disappoint. It’s pretty inconsistent which is odd for a chain restaurant where everything is pretty much pre packaged. The music: The fact that no employee has gone 51⁄50 after listening to the Forest Gump soundtrack every day of their lives says something about them. Enough with the freakin’ soundtrack cd already. My wife and I have gotten in the habit of stopping here for a drink or two and then ordering Italian food from Gianni’s up the street.

Came here for lunch late October for my birthday trip prior to walking Cannery Row and post Monterey Bay Aquarium. We were seated outdoors on the balcony over-looking the Monterey Bay. I wish we had gotten a window seat :( My honey is a Forrest Gump fanatic and he has been telling me about Bubba Gump’s since his first time visiting the SF location years ago. I love the décor and how creative they are with the theme. The servers will quiz you on Forrest Gump trivia and you bet… he knows pretty much everything there was to know about that movie. He made me watch it… twice…and I am now myself a pretty big fan of that movie. Let’s cut straight to point… our server didn’t seem very friendly and the quality of food did not meet my expectations. To start off I had a Moscow Mule that came in its signature copper mug, I enjoyed it rather quickly and had to slow down when I realized they made it nice and strong ;) . He had a beer with the signature take home souvenier glass which was pretty cool! For appetizers we had the Bubba’s Far Out Dip. It was sadly the only thing besides my drink that I enjoyed here. We added shrimp and it made it even more delicious! Definitely somehting to try here and perfect for two people to share. Wish I tried the gumbo as well. I ordered the Net Catch Entrée which was a some kind of steamed seafood bucket which definitely didn’t seem fresh and like it had been sitting out for a while under a hot lamp. It was lacking seasoning big time! Not impressed. He ordered the the Shrimper’s Heaven which was small baskets of shrimp done 3 different ways: grilled, tempura, and coconut shrimp style. This also came with fries. He seemed pleased with his dish but he wasn’t crazy about it. It also came with a few different dipping sauces which were yummy! We did get a complimentary dessert for my birthday and the wait staff all came out to sing to me. There is also a Forrest Gump gift shop outside the restaurant which is super cute. Overall I feel like the quality of the seafood needs significant improvement for me to come back considering the price we paid for the food.

The food was not good. I’ll just be honest. For $ 20 I expected my fish and chips to be more substantial and to taste better than frozen fish sticks. However, the few redeeming stars are for Tom, our server, who was incredibly friendly, entertained us with FG trivia, and made the food taste a little bit better.

If your lucky, you can get a seat next to the view of the Pacific Beach. Foods and drinks were average; a bit bland. It’s better if you walk here from Monterey Aaquarium as it’s hard to find street parking. The staffs were friendly and know their menu, I asked several question regarding different dish and with patient and courtesy they answered all my questions.

I’ve been to a lot of Bubba Gumps, but sadly this one didn’t taste nearly as good as the others. We got: — bowl of clam chowder($ 8): creamy but could’ve used more clam taste. There were small pieces of clams throughout — «I’m Stuffed» shrimp($ 18): the crab stuffing for the shrimp was a little too thick and pasty. The scoop of «jasmine rice» in the middle of the plate didn’t taste very much like anything and was clearly dried out from sitting under a heating lamp — «After the Storm Bucket of Boat Trash»($ 20.29): half the bucket was fries, half was fried white fish, fried shrimp, and a small half of a snow shoe crab. The crab was good and there was a pretty good amount of fish and shrimp, but I’m not too big on fried food so it was a little heavy.

The restaurant is very cute, everything from the décor, to the food, to the SERVERS is based on Forrest Gump. While we were waiting for our food, our server gave us a little movie trivia, which was pretty cool(watch the movie before coming!) I ordered the gumbo and clam chowder while my boyfriend ordered a cheeseburger. Pretty good, but if you’re not on a budget like we are, GETSOMETHINGBETTER! I’ve tried the fish and chips before and id probably recommend that. The lemonades are also amazing.

Tried this place last night. I’m not a big fan of chain restaurants but I was craving Peel n Eat shrimp. To my knowledge there’s not a lot of places in Monterey that have that! Anyway, i was actually very happy with my 11/3lbs garlic and cajun basket of shrimps. They were all deveined and very juicy! The service was good and the atmosphere was nice!

Can this place be any cuter(décor wise)? The wait for this place on a summer Saturday afternoon was ridiculous — close to an hour. My SO spent the time browsing the stores nearby until our name got called. There’s an adorable little gift shop next door so that was convenient. I love that there’s outside and inside seating. Some of the seats are terrible though, located right in the hallway where people are constantly walking by you. Luckily my SO and I got seated inside and we got to see all the cool decorations on the wall. Our server came by and we both ordered some fun adult beverages. Mine was some sort of alcoholic lemonade and it was sweet and tangy, just how I like it. Boyfriend got a margarita and it was gone in seconds. I thought the portion for his drink could have been bigger. I decided on the po boy sandwich. It was alright but I felt like it it was quite bland and needed a lot more seasoning love. SO got the seafood gumbo which he really enjoyed. The overall meal was good, but probably not my first choice for out-of-this-world seafood.

I stop at this Bubba Gumps at least once a year, I guess you could say it’s evolved to an unintentional family tradition. First we visit the aquarium, then we stop at Bubba Gumps for dinner. I love this place for its unique ambiance, a dining experience rich in a fun classic movies memorabilia. The wait staff can be entertaining at times, asking trivia questions, etc. The view is amazing, we’ve seen dolphins, seals, and whales. The kids love the shrimp mascot, paper boats their meals come in, and the menu with crayons. So why’d I only give it four stars? That’s what you were wondering right? Well, it was tough not to give five, but sometimes some of the food doesn’t come out hot(likely sitting in the window waiting for other meals to be prepared) and the food and drinks are a little pricey(understandable for the location and ambiance but for the price you’re paying you’d expect a perfectly executed dining experience-hot meals included). Tip: Sometimes there can be a long wait for a table, we fill this time by visiting the Bargetto Wine tasting room located right next door to Bubba Gumps. We will definitely be back, and I highly suggest you give it a try as well.

Parking: find any spot and just park there! IE: street parking $ 1.50 an hour/4 hour max– or $ 15 all day parking in a nearby lot. Refreshment: Georgia Peach Iced Tea — it was so strong. I might’ve been tipsy after a few sips, but then again I didn’t have breakfast prior in the day. ;) — Free Souvenir cup as well with this drink order(I got Stupid is as Stupid does) hahaha Meal: Forrest Seafood Feast includes– — Fried Shrimp, lots of batter compared to the shrimps :( — Fish & Chips, so good! sort of reminds me of the fish and chips I had in Texas, lightly battered and seasoned. :) — Hush Puppies, it’s been so long since I had hush puppies, and with corn to boot! Other places would just be batter fried only with no fillings of any kind. :) — French fries, I’m not much a fries kinda gal, but i liked these. :) — Homemade dippin’ sauces: Tartar, Cocktail and Remoulade– of all the sauces I had asked for about 3 containers of the remoulade when I packed my doggie bag to-go. :) Salad: Caesar Salad or any salad doesn’t come with the meal, it was a separate order, but I figured, what the heck since we didn’t order an appetizers. WiFi: NONE Side Note: I thought they were going to give me a beat up glass, the one I was using for my drinks. LOL but it turns out, you take your receipt to show the gift shop, and they give you a bran spankin’ new souvenir glass.

I always knew there would be a time in my life where watching Forrest Gump so many times growing up would finally pay off and it finally happened in May of this year! The servers here are hilarious, friendly and take you on a trivia test of Forrest Gump. No prizes here though except for the pure enjoyment of knowing the right answer over and over like a PHD of Forrest Gump history. The meal was delicious. I have never had mac and cheese like what they serve there: Creamy shrimp deliciousness! BBQ was very tasty and messy. There is no doubt you are in a tourist trap. The prices are a bit high for what you get. You’re packed in there like sardines. And you have Midwest Melvin shouting in your ear trying to impress his friends screaming his drunken jokes at them. But you know what? It’s what we expected and we had a great time. I may stop in at another Bubba Gump’s should I find one. Great fun for kids too.

Great for large parties and families. The noise level escalates rapidly being that it’s popular tourist attraction. Afterall, it was a really really good movie! The food is good, although pricey and the drinks can be a little stronger. If you’re going to pay over $ 12 for drink, it better come with a kick. I like how the waiters and waitresses come over and ask to play movie trivia, makes you want to watch the movie! The popcorn shrimp is a great kids menu item. For adults, I recommend the shrimp po’boy, shrimp scampi and the coconut shrimp. The portions are generous and very tasty. Also ask for a window view, it’s a good experience.

— Great ambiance for a late night place with music not too high and décor very fitting of the history of the place. — Friendly and welcoming staff. From the hostess who welcomed us to our server who gave us good recommendations based on our particular taste palate. — Food is fair. When I ordered a jambalaya originally the shrimp can slightly over cooked though the sauce and rice was spot on for spice and fluffiness of the rice. I told our server who offered to remake it. The manager then came to our table to follow up and apologize which is why I am giving this five star review. Overall, this place has amazing service, great ambiance and environment, and good food for a late night diner.

Mama always said, «life is like a box of chocolates, you may get one that you may not like…»(Or something like that) The one I didn’t like happened to be Bubba Gumps. We came into town a bit late and was searching on Unilocal for a restaurant that was open, was pet friendly since we had a small dog in a carrier, and outdoor patio seating. The only restaurant that we found with all those necessities happened to be Bubba Gumps. I’ve had Bubba Gumps in the past once and remembered that the food wasn’t really that good. But I decided to give them a second chance since its been over a decade and figured they may have changed. Service: Hostess was on her phone when we walked up to her and the she looked up and greeted us. She then said keep walking further to the next hostess stand. Ok… Then the next hostess sat us down out on the patio and I would say the place was pretty packed for how late it was. I would say the patio was at least 75% full. We waited for about 15 – 20 min and the server never came. I remembered from my first visit that if you needed help, you have to flip the«license plates» to STOPFORRESTSTOP. The server finally came and apologized that we haven’t been helped yet. Food: We shared the Forrest’s Seafood Fest. The fish was very bland tasting, you would think with the ocean waves crashing below you that the fish would be better tasting. The shrimp was small and caked on with beading. And the Hush Puppies well… id keep hush hush about these. We also asked for bread and butter and the server said, «we can give you sliced French rolls for $.50 or garlic bread for $ 4.99». We said we will have the garlic bread and what came out was DISGUSTING. It wasn’t fully baked and tasted like warm bread with pasty, garlic spread on it.(See picture). The bill came and the garlic bread was $ 5.59. Not a big deal on the extra $.60 but the server needs to at least get his pricing right. TWO things that I enjoyed. 1: Carmel Wheat Draft Beer 2: Ambiance of waves crashing below your feet Would I come back? NO. Would I recommend this place to anyone? I’d tell them to RUNFORRESTRUN!
