I work near here and often we will order pickup here for lunch. I have to say this place really is hit or miss. I have had some delicious sushi here and other times, the fish didn’t taste fresh or was rubbery and inedible. I am not sure of the reason for the varibility in the quality. The gyoza is consistently delicious and are all the cooked foods. It is the sushi which can vary greatly in quality one day to the next. Overall, it worth a try but a bit of a gamble.

Used to be amazing years ago but there are better sushi options in Morristown such as Masago which is half price for all sushi if you pay cash. The rolls at Asahi are a bit messy and did not come out on one large platter. The presentation leaves a lot to be desired. Go to Masago instead!

Out of all the sushi places I’ve tried in New Jersey(which, I must say, has been a lot), Asahi is my favorite for sure. A hidden little gem in downtown Morristown, they never fail to deliver a top notch meal. It’s a tiny place so definitely make a reservation. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, and they make an effort to remember regular customers. It’s BYOB — there’s a liquor store across the street. The food comes out very quickly and it’s always presented nicely. The fish is so fresh and full of flavor. They even make their own homemade soy sauce. Good date spot, not a good place for groups. I wouldn’t go with more than 2 – 3 people.

Asahi is such a tiny and semi-divey sushi place. It’s small, cramped and decorated how my grandmother might choose to decorate. We unfortunately were seated in the awkward two person table in the front corner next to the door so every time someone walked in — the cold air would freeze our bones. But the sushi, I mean that’s what we’re here for, was excellent! We did some traditional rolls and miso soup — prices were good. This is by no means a fancy, or even trendy, sushi spot but the food is great, fresh and authentic. And they get extra points for being BYOB in Morristown!

I would definitely make the trip to come here again and I live about 50 min away. My friend and I came here for dinner to meet up with another friend who recommended this place. The moment we walked in the staff warmly greeted and seated us right away. The staff and workers are incredibly friendly, cordial, accomodating, and sweet. They will always check up on you to make sure you have everything you need! Also the food here is amazing! I am a sushi/sashimi lover and this is one of my favorite sushi places! We had the kamikaze, sarah, and Christmas rolls along with miso soup. The miso soup was really good and went well with the rolls, but the kamikaze roll was superb! The sushi here are all fresh and delicious! The soy sauce, which is homemade, is so good and not too sour or salty. The dessert here is phenomenal as well! We had fried red bean ice cream, fried bananas, and green tea ice cream. The portions are pretty big and the green tea ice cream was delicious! But my favorite was the fried red bean ice cream! I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back!

I live 50 minutes(in traffic) from Morristown but I would make this trip again in a heartbeat and bring anyone and everyone I know. I only write reviews if I love or hate a place and this place is GREAT– the freshness of the sushi and awesome service. I have been raving about it since my first visit this past week. I got the kamikaze roll to go for my family and they have been raving about it since as well. We ate the Kamikaze, Sarah, and the Christmas rolls. Miso soup was good too. Finished the meal with fried banana, green tea, fried ice cream with red bean ice cream I plan on going back with my family soon!

This place is a true Morristown gem. The place is small, no frills and typically busy but 100% worth the wait. The fish is incredibly fresh and I love that asahi is consistently delicious. My boyfriend and I are frequent visitors and I highly recommend trying their special rolls. Some of our favorites are Tropicana roll, Bruno roll and Spicy Salmon Crunch roll. The prices in my opinion are fair considering how awesome their sushi is. The staff is very pleasant, especially Ivana who is always very warm and welcoming. BYOB so it’s good for a date or small group of friends. This will always be my go-to sushi place in the area!

We love this place! The rolls are very well made compared to other sushi places like Takuma. The staff is very warm and receptive to any suggestions. Overall the best place for sushi in the area.

I’ve been to Asahi sushi a few times now over the years(I live in Salt Lake City and visit family every now and then) and I have to say that they deliver a consistently delicious and pleasant experience. The food is always up to par and the service is friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is quite small which gives it a cozy and warm atmosphere and yet I’ve never felt cramped. Most recently I had the Eel Teriyaki which was a welcome surprise as I’d never seen that before and proved to be as wonderful as I’d hoped. My family comes here quite often as well(they know my mom by name now) and everyone always seems to have a good time. Definitely one of if not the best sushi places in town.

Such a pleasant experience, we came here on a whim after I read the reviews, the staff is extremely pleasant and informative! The place is a bit tight so no big groups but, the ambiance and fresh, delicious sushi makes up for the small space. We will definitely return :)

I love this place. Went for the fourth or fifth time last night, and we’re already getting the«Welcome back! So nice to see you again…» treatment, from what is generally quite a busy place. As you can imagine, the service is fantastic, and is highlighted by an absolutely wonderful owner/manager from Osaka. Next time I’ll get her name, because on the way out she knew mine… «Raymond, be sure to call for a reservation next time.» I think it’s mainly because she and the staff would be mortified if they had to send us away due to a full house! Now, the food: fantastic. Appetizers of miso soup, seaweed salad, edamame, gyoza, etc., all great. I wish they had hiyayakko, but not many places do. The sushi is great. We normally go with a Sushi Special, which comes with 15 pieces of sushi(nigiri) and two rolls… then we throw on two more pieces of hamachi for good measure. That’s a pretty big meal for two. In fact, be prepared for when you’re leaving two or three pieces on your plate for the wonderful owner to come by and say, «Ooohh, almost done!» and quickly walk away before you’re able to say«No, I cannot finish it all.» So, I end up getting shamed into eating all of it, but I love it. Because of this phenomenon, I cannot comment on their desserts at all. One last point on the food: homemade soy sauce. Ridiculous. Lastly, the place is pretty small, and so for any Thu, Fri, Sat dining, I would highly recommend a reservation to get a spot to sit. We did get sat down at a table one Saturday night with a different couple because there was only a four top left. Good times!

This was an amazing sushi place! Being from Boston, we are used to fresh fish and were a bit worried we wouldn’t find that in Morristown. We found ourselves here at Asahi, and bringing in our own bottle of sake which was great. There is a liquor store across the street where we parked. It is nice inside, it was busy so service was a bit slower than normal but that was fine. They gave us some seaweed salad for waiting. They do make their own soy sauce as well which I had never heard of. Prices are standard sushi prices. We ordered a few handrolls, spicy tuna and Ikura. Both were very good, and their spicy tuna is actually spicy. We ordered a few special rolls as well, Jodi Roll, Halloween roll and a double salmon roll. Everything was really good, I would highly recommend if you love sushi and you are in Morristown.

This has been my favorite hidden spot in Morristown ever since I can remember. Now it’s gotten the popularity it absolutely deserves. The service is always great, the food is always on top-notch yum scale, clean place and nice decorations. It is a small, intimate space, but that’s part of what makes this place charming and unique. Their specialty Chris Roll was something new I tried today, and it definitely fit into the high level yum scale I’ve always experienced.

This restaurant is an intimate, casual setting with amazing quality sushi, hands down the best in all of Morristown. It’s perfect for date night. The prices are a little higher than the competition in the area, but it’s well worth it for the quality of sushi you get. The one thing that is very unique and excellent about the restaurant is the service/staff. The owner is the sweetest woman ever. They always remember you every time that you come in. I always feel at home when I go. The service is usually fantastic, except when the restaurant is super packed, which is understandable. It is a small place, so I recommend making a reservation. My favorite roll of all time that I get is the Jenny Roll. Its tuna, salmon, and avocado. I highly recommend it. I also recommend the assorted sashimi. I like to have a little bit of each fish, and not stick to one. It literally melts in your mouth and is so fresh. I would eat it every day if I could, and I am no longer able to eat sashimi from anywhere else because it just doesn’t compare. Another great roll is the spicy scallop roll, which is not on the menu, but you can still order it. If you like scallops, definitely try it! This place is BYO which is awesome as well. The fried iced cream is amazing. I could go on all day about this place, but all I have to say is try it!!!

This is my favorite place to get sushi in Morrristown. I have been going here since high school and the quality has remained excellent over the years. The staff goes above and beyond to make each dining experience pleasant and the food speaks for itself. The fish here is fresher than all the other sushi places in town(I’ve lived here long enough to try them all) and I highly recommend giving it a try for yourself :) P. S. Try the dragon roll, it’s one of my favorites.

First time coming here today and it was amazing. I came in for lunch and it as a great experience. First off the staff is one of the friendliest I ever met. The waitress and manager were super friendly and attentive. It’s a nice small cozy place and very clean also the area is very nice. I ordered a teriyaki salmon bento box with a specialty sushi and both were amazing. The presentation is the sushi was beautiful and tasted just as good as it looked. Although I didn’t realize it was so expensive until I got the bill for the sushi but I was still pleased with my choice. The bento box was perfect for a lunch and it came with 4 pieces of shashimi which were delicious. They even have their own homemade soy sauce which was great. I really enjoyed this spot and hands down one of the best staff I ever met. I’ll definitely be coming here when I am in the area again.

Pretty good! Sushi fresh with good fish, although rice is nothing to write home about. Service is fantastic, owner really friendly and sweet– try it out once at least! Also recommended are the mochi ice cream desserts, they’re like crack in the shape of a frozen gumdrop. I for one like the décor– nice and cozy.

I wouldn’t say this is the best sushi ever. The restaurant is very small and yes on weekends you should definitely make a reservation. I went on a Saturday night without one and the lady first said they don’t have any tables, even though there were like 3 open for reservations 2 hours from then. When we just said we were gonna leave she got scared and finally gave us a table but said we have to be done eating by 8. It was kind of annoying because the staff literally rushed us from the moment we sat down. We sat down for 30 seconds and a waiter came to ask us for our order. Like what? At least let me read half the menu. I got the firecracker roll, which was good but not anything special. Not worth the price for sure. I’m definitely going to the other sushi spot down the road next time.
