I’ve been here two times and both were excellent. I did go for the $ 99 date night special if that makes a difference. Service was fast, food was good, and my servers were super friendly.

Place is awesome. My girlfriend brought me here for an early dinner and I was surprised this place was even in the area. The restaurant is tucked away but the ambiance is unexpected and perfect for a steakhouse. We started of with the shrimp appetizer, which I have to say, was absolutely amazing. It had great flavor and the pieces of shrimp were well cooked. For the entrée, we ordered the porterhouse with a side of mushrooms and the area was perfectly cooked. Our waitress was great as well and told us about the happy hour deals that they had and I would highly consider checking them out. It’s a must try and I would recommend checking this place out if you are ever in the area.

*Disclaimer: I came here for a company dinner with 19 other people in which we were treated to 2 drinks of our choice and our picks off a limited prix fixe menu(1 appetizer/soup, 1 entrée, 1 dessert), so my review isn’t based at all on price and is solely based on my experience there with the choices we were offered. New Brunswick is a pain to find street parking in, but I miraculously found a spot on Albany Street(runs parallel to Church Street) right in front of Due Mari. I arrived at 6:30 and meter parking is free after 8pm, so I only had to pay $ 1.50. Winning! My colleagues weren’t as lucky. They parked in the parking garage directly across the street from the restaurant and paid about $ 7. We were seated in a spacious private room with three big tables accommodating about 9 – 10 people each. The décor was simple yet classy, and they have perfume and hair spray in the bathroom for patrons to use. Our servers, Ryan and Jose(there was one more but I didn’t get his name), were great! They were attentive without being excessive, and they were always there to refill our waters or get us drinks. We were an easy party though — we didn’t really ask for much. What I ordered: — Pineapple cosmopolitan: Delicious and fruity, not too strong, just the way I like it! — Mojito: The sweetest and tastier mojito I’ve ever ordered! — Lobster bisque: It was served in a small cup, but it was very creamy and surprisingly filling. I enjoyed it. — Filet mignon(I’m pretty sure we were served the 8 oz. portion): It was cooked to a perfect medium and it sliced like butter! I highly recommend it if you feel like treatin’ yo’ self. — Crème brulee: BEST. CRÈME. BRULEE. EVER. Seriously, get it. You won’t be sorry. Om to the nom. For realsies. Our entrees were served with yucon mashed and sautéed asparagus on the side, family style. They were nothing to rave about, but they were good. Needless to say, my entire experience here at Steakhouse 85 was amazing! I’d definitely return, but I’ll probably wait for a special occasion. Like, a REALLY special occasion. Like, if I became a millionaire. I’m ballin’ on a budget here.

Just came back from my daughters communion party at Steakhouse 85. The restaurant is beautiful. The service was fantastic. The food… I’ve been there for a family dinner and loved everything we ate. For a party you would expect a little under par because they are cooking for a crowd but It was spot on! Pork chop — one of the best I’ve ever had. Please try the truffled tater tots. You’ll be glade you did. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

I had the shrimp cocktail appetizer here which was very fresh. I had the cow rib-eye steak two times here both times very good and cooked perfectly. Side devious I had the sautéed spinach excellent, sweet potato casserole decent but was served Luke warm, the lobster Mac and cheese I was disappointed that I didn’t see one piece of lobster?! It was $ 18 and no lobster in sight the Mac and cheese itself was excellent, and I don’t mind paying $ 18 if it actually had lobster in it like the menu stated. Another thing disappointing both times I came everything wasn’t served hot last time I went steak was just warm and sides hot time before that steak hot and sides warm. Everything should be served hot not sure why it’s not. The service I had was very attentive here and I was pleased with that. I also the crab stuffed grouper entrée and that was also fresh and very good. For desserts I had the brownie which was very good and carrot cake which was ok. Gelato here is excellent! Overall I recommend this place food is definitely very good! They just need to make sure everything is served hot and add lobster to their mac and cheese.

The dry-aged strip steak was perhaps the best I’ve ever had.

My brother wanted the family to go out for dinner and he chose this place. Our server(Anna) was excellent, the food was excellent, we can’t wait to go back. The steak was tender and well seasoned. I’m pretty picky about my steak and they nailed it. Our appetizers were a wonderful way to start the meal. Dessert was… wait for it… delicious! The atmosphere is amazing for everything from a first date, to an anniversary, to a night out with friends.

From my first experience here last year I had high expectations going in again but left very very disappointed. Came with my friend and we both ordered separate steaks medium rare. I got the tomahawk and my friend got the delmonico. Both were very dry and tough. Mine had burnt char all around it and I had to ask if they could do something about it. They took it back and ended up slicing of the lays of char and my steak then recooking it. Paid for. 24oz tomahawk and by the looks of the fix up job they did I got a over cooked 18oz. Sucks that the main part of the meal was so bad. And the bright side I wasn’t being skimpy wth my side orders. I got Brussels sprouts, mash, Mac and cheese, oysters, and two other sides I can’t remember at the moment. My bill was around $ 300 and it was not well spent.

Great ambiance with a city vibe! Dry and wet aged prime beef selections available! Had the filet and although it was tasty, I have had better. Desserts were just ok. Not impressive– however, I would return. The bar is large and seems to draw a good crowd. Jazz entertainment on weekends!

my colleagues and i went to steakhouse 85 for dinner party of 12. the food was really good, but also very, very pricey. we were seated at a nice private table in the back of the restaurant although i do believe this contributed to some of the very slow service. drinks and appetizers seemed only slight slow, but there was a very long lull between appetizers and dinner that dampened the spirit of the night. for appetizer i tried the tuna tartare and the beet salad and would really recommend both. the tuna was really fresh with a complementary light soy dressing. the salad had arugula, goat cheese, beets, and nuts and light dressing as well. i chose the seared scallops for dinner and was happy to receive a big portion of 6 large scallops. they were nicely seared and served over leeks. many of the sides were also really good — the brussels sprouts were delicious and savory and the asparagus was perfectly cooked.

I had dinner here last week on Friday to celebrate my brothers birthday. We’ve been looking forward to dining here for weeks. I made reservations 2 weeks out. We were all dressed up and ready for our steak dinners. When we arrived, I told the hostess that I made reservations. She told us it would be just a few moments. A few moments turned into 40 minutes. Couples arriving after us were seated immediately. There was a group of 5 people next to us that were waiting for a table. The hostess updated them constantly on how long of a wait they had, and completely ignored us. My brother had to keep asking the hostess for updates. We felt ignored. When we were finally seated, I experienced the worst service I have ever received from a waiter. Our waiter, Jeff, seemed as if he had no interest in tending to us. I caught him rolling his eyes twice! He gave my brother the wine list to look over. He returned to the table a few minutes later and asked which wine we wanted, and because we didn’t know right away, Jeff rolled his eyes and said he would give us a few more moments. The second time he rolled his eyes was when one of my friends said to another friend that rare steak is pink in the middle. Bread was brought to our table with olive oil and garlic. The bread tasted a bit stale, but we ate some of it because we were hungry. My brother had the apple crisp salad and one of my friends had the orange scallop. The orange scallop looked as if they sliced ONE jumbo scallop into 4 pieces, seared it and put it on top of the sauce in a plate. To say the least, I was not impressed, at all. Other tables had the bread and small plates removed from their table when they were finished. We had to stacked our plates and put the bread to one side of the table to indicate that we were finished with our food. It took them almost an hour to pick it up. The waiter never checked on us to see if we needed anything, never cleaned our table, nothing! While we witness him tending to other patrons, pouring there wine, cleaning their tables in a timely fashion and checking on them. We felt uncomfortable, poured our own wine and considered leaving before receiving our entrees, but we were all too hungry. When our food finally arrived, we all lost our appetite. While the presentation was nice, the taste was definitely not 4 star worthy. I ordered the Surf & Turf. The steak was warm and could use more seasoning. The lobster was over cooked and tough. No one was really pleased with their meal. $ 59 down the drain. I should’ve just bought my own lobster and steak from the supermarket and make it myself. I want to say, we are easy to please and know how to make the best out of any situation. All we wanted was a good dinner with good service to have a good time for my brother’s birthday. Instead, we felt ignored and unwelcomed The only thing the waiter got right was when we asked for the check. He did that quickly and didn’t even ask if we wanted to look at the dessert menu. It’s as if he wanted us to get out. As I mentioned, he was very attentive to other patrons, but not with us. I would never return to this establishment nor would I recommend this place to anyone.

I’ve attempted to write this review in the nicest way possible, but. .. Came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday and the service was horrible. Our reservations were made for 8:30 and we didn’t get seated until close to 9:30. What’s the point of making reservations if you’re just going to make your guest wait anyway? Not only that, the host totally ignored us. Several times during our wait, she never attempted to inform us of how long the much longer the wait to be seated would be. Yet, she had no problem with communicating that to the other guest waiting to be seated, arriving to the restaurant after us. Also, two different couples were seated before us because they knew one of the managers. Once again what’s the point of requesting people to make reservations if you have to wait anyway? Then, our waiter, Jeff, was rude. He was caught rolling his eyes when someone spoke, even rolled his eyes at the birthday boy when we wasn’t sure on which wine to order. He was not attentive to the table as plates began to pile up from our appetizers. He never checked on us and when he did, he didn’t ask if we needed anything nor did he go above and beyond for our table as he would for others. He brought us our check quicker than he gave us our appetizers. The food was average, nothing to write home to mother about. If I order medium rare steak it should be running with juices right? Would I come back? Probably not, but the live band was nice.

So, on the plus side the food here is quite good. We had both seafood and steaks and everything was fine(if not excellent). On the negative side the place is definitely pricy for the quality of food, plus we were left waiting for 45 minutes between starter and main. Definitely unacceptable(but the manager on duty was very apologetic about it).

Went there on a Tuesday night because we were nearby. The atmosphere was nice as it got crowded around 630. Crab cake /a bit on the warm side as I like it hot Tuna tartare/not bad 19 oz steak /not bad needed a bit more seasoning but cooked the right temperature Mini filet minion/gf said it was good the way she asked for. We opted for one desert which was the banana foster, it came in a glass with warm bananas, whipped cream sautéed with like brown butter and vanilla . Overall the staff was nice but a bit pricey. Almost like Palm steakhouse price.

Date night in Hub City. I have passed by Steakhouse 85 for years and we finally decided to check it out. I called to make reservations 24 hours out and it seemed to have several openings. This is one of the larger restaurants in New Brunswick and they have a vast amount of tables and you still retain your personal space. The waiter was professional and friendly as was all of the other staff. We ordered drinks and little neck clams as an appetizer. I was shocked by the price(in a good way) the drinks were extremely well priced as well as the appetizers. The clams were clean and delicious. The clams looked a little big to be little necks but I am not complaining! We ordered the sirloin and the filet mignon(Oscar style). They were cooked to perfection and tasted great. Keep in ind that all of your side orders are an additional charge so it can get expensive quick. The steak selection is slightly on the expensive side but I feel as though the quality is worth the price. I would definitely recommend business attire for this restaurant, keep in mind this is right down the street from RWJ and most people in the restaurant are in suit and tie. I fought with myself over the 5th star but I decided against it, I feel as thought while this is a beautiful restaurant it lacks a certain level of intimacy.

Solid choice for steak in the area. The restaurant is clean and modern. Service is decent but could be better. Convenient parking in the garage across the street. Very pricey… you’ve been warned.

Nom nom nom. So delicious. I came here with my boyfriend back in February. We made reservations through Open Table for 8:15pm. When we got there, we had to wait a few minutes but they were very attentive in making sure a table was getting cleared. In the meantime, we were at the bar drinking the pecan infused bourbon drinks(I forget the name) and I was honestly surprised by how good it was. Once we got to our table, our server started taking care of us and was very polite and personable. Like many other reviewers, we chose the $ 99 date night special. To start: crunchy calamari + creamy tomato bisque — both perfect Main entrees: Both steaks were scrumptious(porterhouse + sirloin) Side: Creamed spinach, nuff said Dessert: I got the crème brûlée, and WOW it may have been my favorite part of the meal (I have a serious sweet tooth) The wine complimented just about everything After our meal we stayed and had a few drinks at the bar. can’t pass up another chance for pecan infused bourbon.

not a fan of the shrimp cocktail. Three humongous yet flavorless shrimp — meh. No complaints otherwise. Service is friendly and attentive, if a little pushy.

The Friday night Date night special of $ 99 for 3 courses + wine merits 4 stars; otherwise 3 due to the prices. Waitress and all servers were excellent and the ambiance; fireplace; and live jazz on weekends are very good. The pricing here is erratic – the apple salad is a bargain at $ 9, but the $ 38 salmon is very good, but would not be a bargain at $ 28, especially in a nonBYO restaurant. Same for the $ 38 filet(8 oz.; no sides). Calamari($ 9) was ok; fries were below average. Chicken and pork dishes at $ 28 seemed more reasonable than $ 42 tuna. The pecan and apple tarts were excellent and fairly priced, but I could not figure out why coffee was $ 1.95 and tea $ 5. The $ 25 portion of the wine list is ok and there are many higher end wines.
