I decided to try Ultimate Deli today for a early lunch. I was excited I love sandwiches, anyway I was disapointed. Sure the sandwiches are stuffed but the flavor left me wishing I went to Safeway, not great but diffenently better.

Ultimate Deli. I have tried this shop twice since the name change and I am still enjoying it. It’s still a good value. They’re still slicing meats to order, but with a smile. something I rarely saw with the previous ownership/crew. Some low-selling and high food cost items have been removed from the menu — the manager in me says«YES!» The first step in making a failing restaurant successful is identifying where you are bleeding money and making changes. It’s usually a combination of labor and food costs. I want you to succeed. I really do. Which is why I keep coming back.

Went on a Saturday to try this place out for the first time. Ordered a pastrami sandwich on sourdough with everything. Thought it tasted like a pastrami sandwich I could do myself(don’t know why I didn’t). But truly, nothing special, not memorable, would probably come back only if I was closeby and didn’t feel like driving to Quizno’s or Erik’s.

Today. Lunchtime. Newark. I was craving a sandwich but was not feeling your run of the mill Togo’s, Quiznos, Subway, Erik’s or Andersen’s. So I literally Unilocaled«sandwich» and Slamwich popped up. Ooh, I know where it is, so I jumped in the car and off I went. I walked and saw the deli case full of meat and cheese… which is a rarity to find in a sandwich shop. I ordered the«Fuggetaboutit» and was pretty stoked when I saw that all my meat and cheese were being freshly sliced. Oh man, I knew my sandwich… err, slamwich had to be good! I looked over at the chips selection and they pretty much had a bunch of different chips than your usual Lay’s and Ruffles. But, I passed on the chips and just ordered a medium soda. Total came out to $ 7.75, not too bad. When I got my slamwich, it was HUGE! The meat and cheese was um… slammed high! I took a bite into it and it was awesome. I’ve gotta say, it had to be one of THEBEST sandwich I’ve had in years! I could taste the flavors of the different meats, the cheese, the pepperoncini and even the Garlic Aioli! But, they also have a Lunch Special for $ 4.95. It’s a Turkey or Ham Sandwich, with a deli salad or chips and a soda… what a deal! The two ladies working there were pretty nice. Yeah, the shop is kinda quirky and their signs on the wall/windows might look a little half-assed(check out the menu I posted, that’s not my scribbling) but looking past all that, you’ll come here and get a great sandwich that’s worth your money. PS — I plan to get my 10 stamps for my free slamwich in no time! :D

Mmm… thanks Unilocal.I was looking for vietnamese sandwiches, but Unilocal brought me Slamwich. Not sure of the connection besides meat in between two slices of bread, but whatever happened in my Unilocal app on my blackberry was god like. So I came in because I kept reading mom and pop store, ma and pa, local, small, stuff like that. And I am from the coast, don’t like mass merchants, and respect local. It was almost 2pm so I missed the lunch crowd, because this place has got to have a crowd… unless few know of it yet or there are no office buildings around? Not sure… anyway…they have so many gourmet sandwiches to choose from. I had the Napa… yumm…wait…YUMMM is more like it. Ham, Brie, Apple Slices… none of it pre-sliced. She sliced it for MY sandwich. It was like when I was little and going into a deli and feeling like they were making this sandwich only for me. Any of them can be called the«Amy». That’d be nice, or that may just be in my head. All of them looked good, but this one sounded ridiculously good. And it was. It wasn’t dry, the bread was fresh, the service was nice, the store was impeccably clean. Oh, and they had all these gourmet potato chips. I got a big sandwich and a bag of rosemary olive oil potato chips for exactly $ 8. And guess what? They take credit cards… which was the real reason that I didn’t get a vietnamese sandwich. Those places don’t take cards, and who carries cash?!

I’ll probably go back at some point. It’s a neighborhood deli. They’ve got some variety. I had their veggie sandwich which was good. My friend had pastrami and my brother had the«thank you turkey sandwich»(I think that’s what it was called). Both said that they’ve had better. I think they were disappointed mostly by the bread and said it wasn’t fresh enough. The décor seemed kind of cold. I guess I got used to the Maui Wowie Coffee Shop Décor which was so nice. Slamwich took over the location of Maui Wowie. Newark’s a funny city. Unless you’re a chain, you don’t last in this city especially after 10 pm. This city is dead after that time.

A very competant little deli serving up sandwiches your way freshly carved from the deli display. Copious amount of meat with all the usual compliments and condements. Whenever I’ve been there, the staff behind the counter has snapped to attention to fill my orders lickety-split. This place along with Falafels Etc. has made me indispensable to my co-workers. They’d been working out of their Newark office for years and didn’t know about some of the hidden gems in the area. Thanks Unilocal for helping to advance my career!

Had to try this place. It was pretty good. The meat portion to the sammy was worth it. Not too busy. They take debit and credit cards.

Finally we get a real deli! I laugh at the people at togos up the street when I drive by. If they only knew… Slamwiches is the best deli in town since cedar deli. I love this place.

A mom & pop sandwich place in Newark? YES! My husband goes here at least once a week and I have been here twice. So far, I am a fan. Last time I went, there was a special sandwich which had some of my all time favorite ingredients on it: tomatoes, pesto and FRESH mozzarella, served with turkey on a soft sourdough roll. Are you kidding me? This better get on the permanent menu! The place is cute, clean and the staff is awesome. Very comfortable atmosphere. And the prices are all reasonable.(Seriously, people it is reasonable. Would you rather pay $ 6 – 8 for a delicious meal that makes you happy, or $ 1 for a whopper junior that gives you diarrhea? For those that think this place is expensive, you probably eat at McDonalds 5 times a week, so you wouldn’t know what you’re talking about anyway!) My only gripes are the hours(wish it was open later and on weekends) and the pesto needs to be made with sweet basil and not Vietnamese basil… I know Vietnamese basil is cheaper, but pesto made with sweet basil tastes better. But still, it’s not enough to keep me away. I hope this place stays around for a while.

A tad expensive… but then again… you can’t find another sandwich like this in Fremont or Newark! Had the Turkey/Cranberry sammy last week… loved it! Great selection of chips, drinks, ice cream and salads! I will be back to keep getting my card stamped… I want my free slammy!

Slamwich is THEBOMB.COM!!! I came here today for the first time with my coworkers and I have to say that this place kicks arse! Who is Togo’s, Subway and Quizno’s again??? I think I got a case of amnesia… I ordered The Club sandwich which consisted of a soft sourdough roll, roasted turkey, crispy bacon(none of that under cooked crap that tastes like fat and air), fresh lettuce, tomatoes and cheese; not to mention the roll was nicely toasted. YUMMMMMMM… The size of the sandwich was more then satisfying, in fact I could even finish the whole thing I had to have them wrap the rest up for me to go, but you can bet your bottom dollar I will be eating it later today :-D Now let me finish with not only was the food awesome and the sandwich was packed, packed, packed with meats, cheese and produce(in other words they don’t skimp on nothing), the owner was super nice and makes you feel very welcome. Almost like you are catching up with an old friend. Great atmosphere!!! I will most definitely recommend this place and if you don’t know you better ask some body!!!

Got their special, which included a turkey sandwich, a salad and a soda for I belive it was $ 5. Sandwich was a bit bland, not a whole lot of flavor. Clean and the owner seemed to be a nice guy. Not a place I would ever crave. It was okay.

I came today for the first time, and was much more impressed than expected. The place is very clean, the service is fast and friendly, and their menu is extensive and somewhat clever, offering up sandwiches like«the frenchie» and«fuggetaboutit.» I got a rueben, which entailed hot pastrami, sauerkraut, swiss cheese and thous island @ $ 6.75. The portion of the pastrami was very good, and towered at least 2 inches high in the center, 1 on each side. I also got a side of their 3-bean salad, which contained green, pinto, & garbanzo beans in a light oil dressing — very delicious. Very, very delicous @ $ 2.25. The owner is very friendly and inviting, and also gave me a buy 10 get one free card stamped, so I now feel obligated to come back :). Also, they’ve got good quality spreads, including pesto, sun dried tomato, and honey mustard. The only reason I’m holding back one star is because I feel it’s a tad expensive. The food warrants it, but $ 9 for a sandwich & beans without a drink? A bit high. Luckily, I think they offer a lunch special for like, $ 6 or something. I’ll be back next week for sure.

Fresh, excellent service, clean, take credit cards, plenty of parking, breakfast sandwiches, salads, huge portions, what more can you ask for? Buy 10 sandwiches, the next visit’s sandwich is free. I am going to try every sandwich, I tried the Rueben and it was good.
