Passed this restaurant many times, but after reading reviews we decided to give it a try. Not many patrons the evening g we went, but it also was a few hours before closing on a Sunday. We ordered the gyro platter which came with a Mediterranean salad and fries and also the vegetable panini which came with chips and salsa. Both generous portions were very tasty and well made. The staff was attentive and friendly and our food arrived after a short wait. 1 star short since I thought the air conditioning was way too cold and the music way too loud for dining purposes. We’ll definitely come back for another visit.

We were not even sure the place was open. A few cars were parked out front and it was very dark. Even upon entering the restaurant offered little light. The outside of the building is in rough shape and the roof looks like it is not going to last much longer. Inside, entering with trepidation, the tables were sticky. The service was great but the food was mediocre. Bruchetta is tasty. The gyro is good and comes with a greek salad and fries, but the lettuce was limp. Kids pasta was hot and steamy and fresh. Burger was boring. If you are looking for a no frills, old diner kind of experience, this is for you.

We stopped here on Memorial Day. The food was on point. My fiancé got a gyro and said it was delicious, my father in law got a cheeseburger and cooked perfectly. I got a veggie panini and the was absolutely the best. Service was decent and they had a nice selection on their menu. I would go back if I’m in the area.

Finally tried this place. Food and drinks were great! And pricing is very reasonable. The staff is super friendly as well. We will definitely make this a new regular spot.

Family friendly Italian restaurant that doesn’t cut corners on quality or quantity. Be prepared to be stuffed with rich flavors and comforting foods. Anything with their marinara sauce is amazing: from the chicken parm to the brick oven pizza. Chicken francese over pasta is my go to. Appetizers– Bruschetta needed less bread per tomato amount. Mozzarella sticks and their calamari are staples for appetizers. Soups are delicious: clam chowder is chock full of clams. Delicious food and friendly staff, all around. When my fiancé and I got engaged went here to celebrate and they spoiled us with free dessert. Thanks warm and loving staff, definitely feels like family!

Union Square has been in the area for years and I have never gone there before. I finally went here and I have to say I was very surprised by the food. Union Square is located on 17 K it’s very easy to drive past because it’s kind of hidden from the road there is a hotel nearby and there’s also a little strip mall close to the Union Square restaurant. The staff here was very nice and accommodating the waitress ended up putting us in our own section away from other people so that we could sit and have a conversation. As far as the food goes here they have pretty much everything. They have American food Italian food they do have a lot of pizza on their menu. I saw everything from burgers two chicken sandwiches to salad. I ended up getting a chicken pesto Panini with roasted red peppers. I thought it was good I could tell that they freshly roasted the peppers because there was a good amount of char on the outside. Overall I do recommend coming to Union Square I was surprised by the atmosphere and the service that I received. they do have a wide variety of foods. This is definitely a good place to go if you’re with a group of people and everybody wants to get something different. The place never seems too crowded and the food was pretty good. PROS: — staff was accommodating — good variety of food CONS: — hard to see from the road

First time on a business trip to the Newburgh, NY area, I booked the local Howard Johnson thru Captain Kirk on Priceline. Looking for a quick dinner, I noticed this restaurant next to the hotel so I checked it out on Unilocal.Seeing mixed reviews, plus a 10% hotel discount, I decided to try it out. Captain Kirk didn’t disappoint! I started with the French Onion Soup, which was up to the standards of the American version.(Why are Visalia Onions always used? Some standard Yellow Onions would add a little more zip.) Based on other Unilocaler reviews, I ordered the Gyro Platter with extra Greek Salad, in lieu of French Fries.(Why do they always serve French Fries? Adds nothing to the Mediterranean experience.) Salad was bountiful, with the Greek Dressing served in a separate carafe. The Dressing was a bit bland, to cater to American tastes.(Why do Americans only like bland or volcanic spice levels? Haven’t they ever heard of a symphony of flavors?) A warning: Dump the flamethrower level Green Pepper included! It destroys the taste of the Salad, so much so that I had to drink 3 Diet Cokes with Lemon to extinguish the blaze & I only took one small bite before I spit it out!(Thank God for free refills!) The Gyro itself was more than up to the recommendations. It had twice the normal amount of meat & was succulent as well as tasty. Don’t change a thing on it! The presentation was the most elegant Gyro Platter I ever had the honor to enjoy. Be assured that I’ll trust Captain Kirk to beam me back down to the HJ so I can enjoy some of their culinary offerings the next time I’m back in town!

I didn’t like this place at all. The food was diner food nothing special at all. The place was cold(please turn up the heat) The rest rooms stink –a sewer gas odor. Tkhe waitress wasn’t all that good. I won’t go back. This place was recommended by a customer — I was very disappointed. :(

Excellent! Kids pasta(with side of meatballs) was tasty, while my Mediterranean seafood pasta was exquisitely flavored. Home made ricotta cheesecake divine.(And all big portions! Taking home for lunch 2moro.) Server(Sarah D) was lovely. Definitely recommend!

Absolutely LOVELOVELOVE this place! Almost don’t want to write a review, in fear that too many people will be flooding in and changing the vibe, but I have to give this place 5 stars, two thumbs up, and a round of applause! Always a great greeting by the owner and wait staff, great food, great atmosphere, hands down, our family favorite restaurant! My favorite dishes include the Walnut-Crusted Chicken Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing, the Chicken Francaise, or the Chicken or Eggplant Parm. They have a great sauce and excellent brick-oven pizza.

My husband and I just love this place. We discovered it while visiting from out of town. We’ve been here 3 times in the past year, and planning a 4th visit before the weekend ends! We’ve only had the gyro platter and it’s the best gyros we’ve ever eaten. We feel guilty for not trying the other food(it looks so good on other people’s tables) but we just can’t give up the gyro. Atmosphere is pretty good and prices are reasonable. The restaurant is clean and the owner has always been there.

(Representing 2.5 stars) This is one of those cookie-cutter«restaurant, bar & grill» type places — essentially it’s fair-to-middling diner food with a slight Italian bent, with piecemeal efforts towards being an actual«restaurant». The problems are subtle but numerous. We got the Legendary Burger(it has mushrooms and cheese on it, and it’s served on an English muffin. LEGENDARY!) and the Fish & Chips. Both of these things arrived less than ten minutes after being ordered, speaking volumes for the care that was taken making them — though they were both perfectly edible. The menu here needs some serious proofreading. It doesn’t make any sense. Their LEGENDARY Burger is described in a way which makes it sound like the fries are ON the burger(they thankfully are not), and Fish & Chips is listed as a sandwich(it very much is not). For whatever reason, there are regular sandwiches and«chef’s specialty» sandwiches; the former come with a pickle and coleslaw, and the latter come with fries and an unmentioned pickle, but no coleslaw. Which sandwich goes into which category is completely arbitrary — the Black Angus Steak sandwich($ 11.75) is a regular one, yet a Pastrami Reuben($ 9.45) is a specialty — you’re left thinking things like«I’d get that if it came with fries, but I don’t want to pay $ 1.75 for them» — there’s no rhyme or reason to any of it and the prices are seemingly completely random. So yes — this place makes perfectly edible food. If «perfectly edible food» is your standard, go nuts. I’m unashamed of aiming a little higher, and it isn’t hard to find places better than this. Totally devoid of atmosphere and with possibly the loudest members of staff I’ve ever seen working in a place like this, Union Square’s final attempt at currying favour is to offer 10% off if you present the receipt from your last visit. Anyone want ours?

Everyone likes it but me. I’m always so confused by the extensive menu. I can’t figure out what to order. I’ve had the pizza, a pasta dish, a grill cheese sandwich, chicken francese. The portions are ample, so you might want to share. The service is excellent. Sometimes the kitchen can get backed up and things will get a little slow. I will probably go back because Newburgh doesn’t have a lot of dining options. Union Square is an upscale diner.

I agree with the comments about friendly service. The menu is massive and on the entrees are priced a bit higher than most local restaurants. Wife ordered Portabello sandwich and waitress asked if she wanted French fries with them leading us to believe they came with the sandwich but they were added on to the bill. I had the meatball sandwich which was so so. I also hate being deceived by a restaurant. The soup special was HOMEMADE Beef Barley soup but in the two bowls we had there was one small pea size piece of «BEEF» that tasted 100% like it came out of a can. Veggies were«too perfectly cut» to be done by hand. Do they think people are stupid. Don’t think we will go back. Steve

Union Square Restaurant in Newburgh, NY is one of my husband’s and my favorite places for a casual bite to eat for lunch or dinner. The service is always friendly and accommodating and speedy, and we have never been disappointed with any of our selections! They have a diverse menu selection of everything from classic American burgers to brick-oven pizza to fajitas to fresh seafood and prime rib and enormous salads. They always have excellent fresh fish dishes to choose from, but my favorite is the red snapper over linguine with a lemon and white wine sauce — it’s to die for! They have an impressive salad menu that ranges from the simple dinner side salad to very large entrée sizes. They have homemade soups daily, Manhattan clam chowder being our favorite. What I like most about Union Square is that the food is very fresh and not overly salty like some restaurants. You can tell they use better quality ingredients than you will find in other restaurants. Their fresh vegetables are always tasty and cooked lightly, not mushy or previously frozen. I highly recommend the pizza, salads, and fresh fish. Always good choices! As a bonus your receipt doubles as a coupon for 10% off your next visit. My husband and I have never regretted eating there. They have something for everyone and will try to accommodate if they don’t. It’s a must-try in the Hudson Valley, I’m glad we discovered it sometime last year. Looking forward to visiting again and again in the years to come. — j3nn Blog:

Great Italian Food and Great Pizza. I’ve been there a few times, and introduced a few people to their food — everyone’s always happy. I enjoy their regular pizzas, but particularly go for their deep dish(nice thick crusted) pizzas. The place is big, but cozy & there is a friendly staff. Try the deep dish margherita pizza. :)

After a long drive through some bad storms, we just wanted a hot meal and go to bed. We were staying at the nearby Courtyard and this place was recommended by Patti, a Courtyard staff. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the hostess and seated immediately. Glasses of water came shortly after. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. We were ordered the baked red snapper and breaded flounders. Sorry, no pix. We inhaled our food and drove back to our hotel to crash… The food were delicious and very well seasoned. The pricing were pretty decent. In the City, our dinner tab would be have been so much more. Cheers to great service and yummy food.
