What is not to love at The Fifth Element! Great atmosphere, fantastic staff and killer martinis! When I am out for the evening, I always try to finish the night with the grand finale of The Fifth Element.

During our first visit to Newport, we stumbled upon The Fifth Element. I ordered the Pink Flamingo drink which was heavenly. We got two apps: the pork belly and the spinach balls in balsamic. The pork belly was the winning contender. For dinner I ordered the salmon, which was crispy and charred perfectly. The couscous was also wonderful. Great service, fun atmosphere, and a nice view of downtown Newport.

I hosted a party here for 40 guests and the experience was nothing short than wonderful. Brad and Frank were extremely helpful from Day 1– planning the menu, designing the layout and even providing local recommendations for birthday cake and balloons. They were extremely flexible compared to the other venues in Newport. The day of the party I dropped off all of the decorations(with intentions of decorating later that day) and when I arrived they decorated the entire space for me! We had more than enough room for guests to mingle, despite it being a Saturday night. I had passed appetizers, meet and cheese stations and their amazing pizza. Frank bartender for the party and was super attentive. I couldn’t be happier with my experience!

Get the pot roast poutine fries! So good-ask for less pepper. Filet and potatoes were cooked perfectly. The ambiance is cool in this place. Nice bar scene. Hostess was talking to friends the whole time we were there and not greeting people or saying goodbye really, but we were in the bar so didn’t care. Cool place

Terrific décor and atmosphere. Food was very good. We got the zucchini fritters and Shaved Brussels sprout salad to start, followed by a Scallop special and the filet. Everything was very flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Service was exceptional, and we look forward to our return.

We sat at the bar on Saturday night, at around 8pm and the place was hopping with a mix of ages, including a few families but mostly locals 35+. We came in for a poutine and a few drinks, and glad we came. We great service at the bar(I wish I remember our bartender’s name), and the beer assortment was good. Next time however, we’d skip the poutine. – Poutine review – We came in for the spicy lamb poutine, their«fancy» version of the French-Canadian dish that typically consists of fries, cheddar cheese curds, and gravy. 5E’s version had good crisp fries, which was a good start. And although it could have been a success, it felt short for me. The cheese was cheddar but not particularly fresh, so it didn’t add the fatty oils or salt that normally makes the dish work. Plus, the gravy is more of a jus(practically just a broth) so it didn’t stick on the cheese to make it melt on the fries. You end up picking up a few wet fries with cold cheese. The spicy lamb was delicious, but when you had some in your bite it’s all you could taste. It overwhelmed the dish.

Great cocktails and wine and amazing toffee pudding dessert(although it was a cake not pudding). It was all great and a wonderful atmosphere!

Liked the atmosphere in the bar area(restaurant section seemed a bit soulless). Food was nice but not amazing. Salmon was well cooked but only came with farro(no veg which was a missing element). Nice wait staff.

Loved the atmosphere, but I was underwhelmed by the food. I tried the spinach balls everyone raves about on here and they were defiantly good, but I’m not sure is order them again. Then I ordered the pasta dish that comes in a cheese sauce and the sauce was all separated and didn’t have that smooth creamy texture you’d want in a cheese sauce. Again it was good but not something I would order again. The waitress also seemed very put off and annoyed by us being there. I’m going to give it a 2nd try eventually and hopefully I’ll have a better experience. But for now, 4 stars. Mostly because the atmosphere was soo awesome!

Great service at the bar. Good burger, it brings just the right amount of heat. I would come back. Band is setting up so may not make the 10 pm start.

We are spending one week in Newport on vacation and we had worst experience at this restaurant. We booked a reservation based on the reviews from Unilocal and google for 6 adults and one child Monday night. We arrived at 7pm and were seated promptly by the hostess. Restaurant was almost empty except a few customers at the bar. We ordered a few appetizers and drinks. It took a while for the entry to come. I ordered steak filet, asked for medium well done. Steak came rare, and one piece of meat was dropped on the table from the plate by the waitress. She was apologetic and promised to bring a replacement piece which never came. I sent the rare meat back and had to ask twice, when it would come back since everyone else was almost finished eating. Got the bill, mandatory 20% tips were added on the bill, also was charged 7% tax on the tips. When I questioned about the tips and tax on the tips, a manager was called. This is the rudest, most unapologetic man I ever encountered in hospitality industry. During the whole conversation, he never apologized for the uncooked meat, delayed service, could not explain the tax charge(he just kept repeating: this is the law, state law and federal law). He also refused to reduce the 20% tip based on bad experience. Will never recommend to anyone and go back. By the way, there is a Hawaiian style restaurant right across the street, much better!

I like this place. Its nice but not so nice you feel that you really need to dress well. I had the beef and it was excellent. Even the mashed Potato’s came out excellent. Simple things made much better.

Come for the name, stay for the caipiroskas, return for the pumpkin quinoa cakes. This lounge-bar-restaurant hybrid is definitely worth checking out.

I’ll admit to planning dinner here based about 90% on the name alone(one of my favorite movies) and 10% on the Unilocal reviews. no multipass needed here! while Jean Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg is not here to demand a case with four stones in it as your entry fee, the food, drinks, and atmosphere are excellent. considering that two meals of mine that day consisted of some sort of meat/egg/cheese sandwich, I switched things up with a salad. okay, it had pancetta and goat cheese, but still, it was quite the salad. the creamy tomato soup helped warm my stomach on a chilly New England night. I sampled the quinoa pumpkin pancakes that Caroline ordered — they were similar to latkes but not as greasy. the dranks here — potent! my dark and stormy could start a fire. but it was well-mixed! prices are fair and service was fast and friendly. the trendy-casual scene was welcoming and warm, in contrast to the weather outside. freeze those knees, my chickadees!

There are a plethora of restaurants in newport, ri so I took to Unilocal and open table to pick a place. We decided to go off the beaten path but not too far off and check out this place. The space is huge and decorated with a bit of an Asian motif. Our reservation was on the earlier side so only about a handful of patrons were enjoying the bar area. We were seated in the main dining area. To start we ordered the roasted oysters. Four large oysters were part if the appetizer. The sauce had a nice flavor of garlic. Our main dish was the grilled bistro filet. Four perfectly cooked slices of meat along with mashed potatoes and some greens were presented to us. Service was great. food very good. Décor average. No dessert but if we ever go back, maybe. If downtown newport is too crazy, consider driving a few blocks away to try this place.

I didn’t get a chance to frequent The Fifth Element much over the summer, as the bar side is usually rather busy on the weekends(and even some weeknights). So it was a pleasure to be reminded last night of what a great place this is. One side of the restaurant is dedicated to table service, while the other half offers a large bar, several high top tables, couches, and a few large booths. I very much enjoy the ambiance here… rustic charm, yet clean and modern… even when the bar is packed this place feels open. Especially in the summer when they open up the front windows. I love that the kitchen is open facing the bar. I enjoy watching them do their thing. They have a pretty solid cocktail and martini menu… The cucumber martini here is one of my favorite drinks in town. Everything I have ordered off the food menu(which changes seasonally) has been delicious. I did notice that menu was much longer on this visit than any previous ones. Last night my boyfriend and I shared the spinach balls… they were delicious little balls of savory goodness. I usually can not be swayed from ordering the steamed mussels here… the tomato broth has the perfect amount of spiciness and even the grilled bread is on point. Brunch here is wonderful as well, and they usually have a live jazz band in house. They even have a yummy selection of hot toddys. My favorite times to go here are early evenings and Sunday Brunch. However, if you are looking for more of a nightlife scene, definitely check this place out after 8:00. Many nights they even have a DJ or band in house. Usually a great looking crowd.
