For a friendly face and great service, I go to Bob’s. Their subs are very filling and very tasty. I usually get the Cold Italian Sub which is best with the hot peppers that she puts on it. I just truly appreciate getting what I ordered and with a very pretty smile. The opposite of what I have seen during my first year in Boston. Thank goodness it is also right around the corner from my house here in Newton Upper Falls.

I was craving a sub for lunch and found this place online, wasn’t sure if it was still in operation because there website seems to be offline right now, but I’m glad I made the trip. It’s not a fancy, whistles and bells kind of sub place but a really good, just what you want, kinda sub shop. Very homey interior. Very affordable

Food is decent but the hours are not consistent. The hours say open till 6pm but last 2 times I went at 4:45 they were closed. There is very minimal seating and parking is terrible

Love love love! The chicken here is some of the best chicken cutlet I’ve ever had! Their sandwiches are so good– bestie loves the steak and cheese. It’s a real dive for Newton, which is great because it’s a hidden gem, but sucks because there’s no parking and the seating area is comparable to a train station waiting room. The staff here are so nice, you feel like you’re family. Wish the location didn’t suck.

The best corner sub shop that you can hardly see around! Bob’s is run by a little woman definitely not named Bob. She is super welcoming, honest and sure can cook! From the smoothies, to the special of the day to a chicken finger sub, if Bob’s is in walking distance this is the place to be! Hands down the best bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich ANYWHERE! I go grab it as my usual at least 2 times a week!

Hands down the best steak and cheese sub around. Its literally the only thing i can speak to on the menu and I come here a couple of times a month. Sometimes you just have to go with what you know. Know what i mean? As others have mentioned its different owners from when i used to go back in high school, but the place preserves its charm and the food quality. A small dining area with a handful of tables is all your find in addition to the counter where you order. While its always been clean, its clear that the inside is still stuck in the 70s, but you know what… i kind of like that. Friendly service, with quick execution of the food allows me to enjoy a delicious S&C and get back to the office. Ok time to get back to work…

Excellent hidden gem for breakfast and lunch in Newton! Been going ever since high school(thanks Newton South), and still go when I’m in the area. The breakfast is amazing, go with the breakfast sandwiches, the ones on bagels are phenomenal with bacon, ham or real steak. New owners, but still preserve the old charm and quality of the food. Breakfast is only until 11 so come early!

Would be worth 4 stars except they don’t use real chicken breast in their sandwiches or on their salad… Not that hard of a change to make. It was disappointing to bite into chicken with the appearance and consistency of a sponge. If they’re doing regular business they should be able to make real chicken breasts worth their while for the extra cost. Change the chicken and they’ll get my business(and get 4 stars)!!!

Bobs is great for a quick lunch or dinner. Haven’t had breakfast though they do serve it. Owners couldn’t be nicer! Not a place to travel too far for but if you’re in the area it’s strongly suggested. If you live in or around upper falls check it out!

Went to Bobs today based on Unilocal reviews and I am so happy I did! The sub I got(chicken bomb with peppers, onion, mushrooms and cheese) was so good! The bread was fresh and the sub was perfectly cooked. The food was prepared quick and the service was fantastic. I can’t wait to go back to Bobs!

Just had lunch at Bob’s after reading all the favorable reviews. I never knew there was a place for lunch in this small section of Newton. I had read that someone referred to this place as a «dive». The place was spotless. Big windows, sunny and very casual. Don’t expect table linens and wait service– all counter service with very friendly people. I liked the unpretentious nature of the place and fast service. The new owners are from China and they had a fresh made Sezchuan soup for lunch– which was fantastic. FYI– I do not enjoy Chinese food due to its processed and high grease content but this made with fresh spices and quality ingredients. I also ordered an eggplant parm sandwich which the eggplant was frozen(not made there) and then fried with a nice tomato sauce and provolone on top. I wouldn’t order that again unless they start preparing their own eggplant. I can get eggplant in too many other places where it is authentic, fresh and tasty. The owner, Ben, said that all the chicken is fresh cooked and suggested I try the Chicken bomb sub the next time. They also mentioned that they are expanding the hours till 7:00pm at nights and open on saturdays. Definitely worth checking out especially if you live or work in the area.

Not quit sure what all the hub bub is about. Decent sandwich, nice staff(owners?). Five stars? Not quite. I got two sandwiches just because I wouldn’t get back any time soon. Definitely decent but not really worth going out of my way for

A true gem. Something about their fresh sub roll bread, shredded lettuce, diced veggies and chicken cutlets is just far superior to anywhere else. I have moved out of Newton and now live in the South End surrounded by such great restaurants yet I continually crave Bob’s Subs and Mike and Patty’s. There is something to be said about a small, family run shop serving up delicious, consistent food at a reasonable price. Tops… Chicken veggie melt: chix cutlet with sauteed onions, peppers and mushroom with honey mustard Chicken Cutlet: chix cutlet with lettuce, tomato, onion, provolone and mayo(can also add pickles). great steak and cheese, chix parm, waffle fries. Rumor is Bob’s was just sold… I hope they don’t try to change it too much. A sad day…

I finally got the chance to try Bob’s this week and I was not disappointed. The subs are phenomenal, and the family who runs this business could not have been friendlier. I had the daily special, which that day was tomato, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto(hold the prosciutto for me) and a bunch of herbs and a vinaigrette. It was delicious. I had the small and it was enormous. I ordered my husband the chicken parm special, which was a chicken parm with mushrooms, onions, and peppers. Not sure how it tasted, but it smelled delicious on the ride home. There are seats in Bob’s, but it’s kind of a dive and not really the kind of place I’d want to sit and have a meal. Parking is also quite limited, which was surprising given the area. Bob’s is only open on weekdays, and even then only until 4, but if you can make it, you should definitely give them a try. I’m salivating right now just thinking about that sandwich.

What can I say about Bob’s other than it is one of the best sub shops in the area. I am sure you can find shops that sell bigger subs but none has the consistent quality of Bob’s. Everything is made from scratch and they have one of the best meatball subs in the area. The meatballs are made from scratch and taste amazing. This is a small family run establishment that has been in the same place for going on 25 years. There is ample street parking and during the day you can park behind. The breakfast bagels are great and they will make them into subs if you ask. It is as clean as you can hope for and aside from the lunch rush you can usually find a place to sit. This is easily Newton’s best sub shop!(Not counting those that sell pizza). A hidden gem and worth your time!

a hidden gem and one of my top 3 favorite places for subs. every sub i’ve had here has been good(when i worked in the area, i was especially addicted to the chicken, russian dressing, tomato, lettuce, cheese sub… the name escapes me…). their hours are a bit funky and it’s a tad on the pricey side for lunch on the go, but it’s worth it when you are getting great subs with that small-town charm. the service is extremely friendly too. my first time here i didn’t know it was cash-only and i couldn’t pay for my lunch. they let me come back the next day and pay for it. totally awesome.

The only real problem with Bob’s is that they aren’t open for me to pick up something on my way home from work. I’m a Wiley Veteran of Bob’s quite frankly because it was by my bus stop growing up on the mean streets of Newton Upper Falls. Their subs are made to order as promptly as the grill cooks or the cold cuts can come out of the wrapper. My personal favorites are the Steak and Pepper Sub, the BBQ Rib Sandwich special and the New Yorker on a Figure 8 roll.

Since moving to Los Angeles seven years ago, Bob’s Sub Stop remains one of the places that I miss the most about living in the Boston area. I started going to Bob’s when I was in sixth grade and it was a part of my high school life after that, before I decided to move out west. The best part about Bob’s is that it is truly a neighborhood lunch spot. The staff is extremely friendly, gets to know your name and the things that you like, and you’ll never get a bad sub at Bob’s. It’s more expensive, with smaller subs than the rival Mighty Subs down the hill, but you’re getting a quality sub with fresh ingredients at Bob’s, from people who you feel like really know you. Bob’s has excellent breakfast sandwiches, but I think their best sub is the Chicken Finger Sub. If they’re out of the Chicken Finger Sub, you can settle for the Chicken Cutlet, or the Steak Bomb, but the Chicken Finger sub is one of those«Why doesn’t this taste as good when I try to make this at home?» subs. It’s delicious, consistently good, and is something that I always have to get when I go back home to the East Coast. And it’s a sandwich! While overpriced(about $ 2), the fries are exceptional at Bob’s and you get so many that they can be a meal in itself!(It used to be for me, when I would not get lunch at school just so I could get fries from Bob’s on my way home). It’s more of a takeout place as high schoolers and middle schoolers will take most of the seating inside, either at lunch or while they wait for the bus. The friendly staff, neighborhood joint appeal, and great sandwiches make Bob’s one of my favorite all-time restaurants and I wish we had something like this in Los Angeles.

Hidden gem! Not many outside of Newton Upper Falls know about it! Some of the best subs I’ve ever had. Family-owned business that just gets subs right. The subs are a tad on the expensive side(expect to pay around $ 5 for a large), but they’re well worth it. If you’re eating there on either one of the two tables(each sits 4), or sitting on the special windowsills that have little tables in front of them(sit six), you don’t have to pay until you’re done. Most of their business seems to be take-outs. T info: Green Line(D) — This is a bit of a schlep, maybe 10−15min walk. Get off at Eliot, and go towards the inbound side of the station, cross the bridge that goes over Rt. 9. Walk 2 blocks west on Rt. 9 and turn left on Circuit Ave, keep walking on Circuit until it terminates, where you can turn right unto Elliot St. Keep walking straight, Bob’s is on your right after you pass the large catholic church and the Stone Institute.
