Was hesitant to come here because of the low star average, but decided to give it a shot because of the great sunset views, and I’m glad we did ! Food was good, had the calamari and the filet minion special. My only gripe is that the mashed potatoes tasted powered. Which is no Bueno if you’re paying $ 37 for an entrée. In the fine dining wasteland that is ocean beach. This place was one of the better meals I had.

One of my favorite restaurants on Fire Island. I celebrated my mother’s birthday here with about 8 people, and everyone loved their dish. I got a ribeye steak over potatoes with a fig and goat cheese foam(a special of the night). The steak was a perfect medium rare. The service was great as well; a very attentive and friendly staff. We went around the time of sunset and was able to eat with a great view. Definitely returning.

Bartenders and staff are fantastic! our food was a little meh. nothing to write home about. I had a wrap and it was pricy and basic. We’ll still come back and hang at the bar whenever we’re in town and get a low key app.

They were under staffed and we had terrible service. They ran out of 1 ½ pounds lobster. They offered to split a 3# for my friend and me and we agreed. Eventually they served us the worst lobster I’ve ever eaten, and I’ve eaten a bunch of them. The manager offered to give us 50% off and it was a darn good thing he did. They charged us more for the lousy 3# than two of the regular meals. I’ve eaten here before and had much better experiences but this wad a busy weekend and they should have been ready.

I was hoping the food would live up to the setting. Unfortunately, everything that came out of the kitchen was really poor, including an inedible rubbery lobster. Come for a drink but stay away from the food. Castaways and the Albatross are infinitely better and not trying to ride out a reputation long past its expiration date.

On the bay side of Fire Island, this hidden gem offers plenty of space, great views and affordable cuisine. In for a little late lunch, we were very happy with the appetizer, sandwich & drinks we could choose from. During the 2−4pm window, the place was much less crowded and it makes for the perfect time to get a group shot with the beach in the background. If you’re hungry, come here early, you may be waiting a while for your food to come out of the kitchen.

Awesome views, located on the bay in Ocean Beach, Fire Island. The food was overpriced for what it was. I had the mahi-mahi wrap and am 90% sure it was NOT mahi-mahi. It was not very good.

Unilocal reviews are not so raving and figured what the heck I’ll give it a shot. I was there for their $ 30 Lobsterpolooza which is a soup, salad and entrée of lobster or prime rib choice. First up soup, clam chowder cup. Quite good, I liked that it had small pieces of bacon. It gave it a slightly different taste than classic clam chowder. Salad, just a regular garden or Cesar salad. The entrée, my table picked both options so I can fairly review both. My prime rib was ok, very dry and flavorless. Came with a side of corn and baked potato, nothing my palate went crazy for. My brothers lobster looked amazing, but it was just show and hallow shell. His sides were the same as well. Just«meh» overall. The service was snail pace slow. We must have waited a little over an hour for our food to slowly start coming out. Waitress was hardly around, I don’t blame her the place looked packed for a Thurs at 5pm. Perhaps they are understaffed? I noticed the look of agony on all the workers, running back and forth. They look like they had been running a marathon all day. Felt bad. On plus side, beautiful sunset.

We came here twice, lunch and dinner, during our week on Fire Island. Both times we sat at a table overlooking the bay. The service for lunch was mediocre but the dinner service was great, so I guess service quality depends on your server more than the restaurant policy. The food is pretty good but it is a touch overpriced which would be fine if the food was better. We did not get the best pours for the price or in comparison to some other restaurants. The ambiance is slightly nicer than casual which makes it feel like a special dinner out while still keeping the beach feel. I got the Mag’s Dip for lunch which was pretty good but not the best on the island. For dinner, I got the Grilled Skirt Steak which was very good, along with its sides. I don’t remember what my friends’ got but everyone agreed that the food was very good for dinner. We will come here again the next time we’re on the island. It’s a great place to come on the last night after being tired out from the week and just want a nice, lower key dinner. I would recommend Maguire’s for dinner but there are better places for less money for lunch.

A fun place with a beautiful view. Overall, prices are a little on the higher side–(definitely too high for the quality) but I think overall the experience makes up for it. It definitely has a fun vibe and all the servers are extremely nice and patient. Our table split a variety of foods– I can speak to the grilled cheese, Mac n Cheese, Sangria, and Parmesan truffle fries. The fries lacked in flavor– tasted like normal fries to be honest– but the Sangria was great. The Mac n Cheese looked like Kraft box Mac n Cheese, and the Grilled Cheese looked like it was just plain old grocery store bread stuffed with some standard plain cheese. Nothing amazing at all. Perhaps better for the seafood and drinks than the other food? Worth exploring.

really cool place — nice spot for a casual lunch /dinner during the day and then turns into a really fun bar at night! On Thursday’s during the summer they have a deal for $ 30 which includes a full lobster, clam chowder, salad, baked potato and corn. so yummy!

Lobster roll was actually pretty ok, seasoned lightly with mayo, celery & red onions & a side of salad & corona to go with it!

Great location… right on the water. Bar had a good selection of liqours but only a couple of beers on tap. We only got appetizers but our friends got entrees and were satisfied. Wings were average and a little soggy, probably frozen and only one flavor. Truffle parmesaen fries were OK. Clam chowder was delicious… lots of clams. Bread was warm and super fresh but was served with honey butter which I don’t prefer. Bartenders were attentive, although we were the only ones in there at 5pm ish on a Friday during the beginning of the season.

If your lucky to get a table — it’s your lucky day! Place is jammed during the season and for good reason. Tables are very cramped and uncomfortable. Bar area is enormous. Food is excellent.

I’ve never in my life spent more money on worse food or worse service. I’ve also never written a review while at the restaurant, because after waiting an hour and a half, all of our party still doesn’t have our food and there’s nothing else to do while we wait. our group of 6 was seated at 6:40 and got our food at 8:10. we were checked on once by our waiter after staring him down for 30 minutes in a state of hunger and thirst. when i received my food(an app of coconut shrimp and a side of fries) no one in my party had. also it was 4 coconut shrimp and about 27 fries. maybe that’s my fault for not ordering a full entre but this has worked for me at every restaurant in the past 2 years. we complained to the manager about the wait on our food and the lack of communication from our waiter and he said«okay» and walked away. our food came it seconds later. what? they get 1 star for the delicious rocket fuels that we had… they really packed a punch — the only pro of the night.

I went to Maguire’s on a Friday night this past August and it was a pretty happenin’ place, especially their outside seating. Our waitress wasn’t exactly top notch, often distracted and forgetful. We had to remind her about some of our drinks and while taking our order, she was too busy watching some activity on the beach to listen to us. The food was decent, though highly priced due to the waterfront location. I’d go back for some more of the Steamed Clams and I understand the place turns into a club around 10pm, which sounds fun. But it wasn’t the BEST experience in Ocean Beach.

So far we had a reservation for 815 and it is almost 9. We were a party of 16 and starting to get ancy when our table isnt ready. Not to mention we are also starving. If the wait was going to be this long they should have given us some menus so we could decide what we want rather than prolong our starvation. When we finally get seated the waiter was nice enough to suggested ordered appetizers quick so he can put the order in. We ordered to start 6 pitchers of sangria 3 red and 3 white both were delicious lots of fresh fruit. Now drinking before food isnt a good idea so one of my friends asked the waiter or a server to get us some bread they bring 3 small loaves for a table of 16 we ate that very quick and it was delicious but when we asked for another order because everyone basically got a small piece of bread it felt like the last supper where Jesus has to give all his friends a piece. The extra loaves never came. For appetizers we ordered the spinacj artichoke dip(we wished had more chips to it) Coconut shrimp was good but only get 6 pieces And fried calamari… It was good came with sauce but no lemon… I orderd the ahi tuna rare whch was really good but i was not impressed with the«coconut rice» it claimed to be. It did not taste like coconut rice. Heck the one i make is 100xbetter. Overall the food was decent edible. Would i return i would have to honestly think about it… The wait staff was nice, just wish we had more bread and were seated closer to our reservation time… i mean why make one if you will have to wait 45 mins to an hour later not including to wait longer until our food arrives…

I really liked this place. Drinks were tasty and fairly priced. Don’t wanna pay $ 10 per drink? Don’t go to Fire Island! Problem solved. Staff was very friendly and the food was good. Would definitely go back in the future. Service was quick as well.

After a terrible dining experience at C.J.‘s bar and grille, and a mediocre experience at The Island Mermaid, my boyfriend and I got drinks at Magurie’s after stumbling upon it. Maguires is at the end of the main strip of stores and restaurants in ocean beach, but it is definitely worth the walk. I finally tried the island’s most beloved drink the Rocket Fuel, which is just a stronger piña colada, and my boyfriend had a margarita. The service was great, and the waiter even gave us warm sourdough bread and whipped butter while we were waiting for our cocktails. The few was incredible as well. I would definitely come back and have a full meal here next time I visit ocean beach.
