Big Z Ogden Restaurant and Tavern

They completely ruined big z. Dont waste your time. I loved going here as a kid and now it’s so different. Very disappointed

We have been here before and liked it. Came in today and the menus were different, the coffee wasn’t good. Order the huevos rancheros with hash browns and over medium eggs. Eggs were right. The 2 corn tortillas were very soggy. The hashbrowns looked browned, but weren’t cooked through. The sausage was like microwave type sausage. There were only 3 couples in the restaurant and not real fast service from the wait staff or the kitchen. We won’t be back.

The food was great, my friend and I both had the «build your own combo» Mexican food plate. Then menu is large, it was a tough choice.
We ordered the fried mushrooms and the waitress brought us a little bowl with 3 mushrooms in it. She said she thought we wanted the «tavern size.» There was no one size mushrooms on the menu and it was $ 7.99. I asked how much the «tavern size» was. She said «a dollar or two.» We tried them, they were delicious so we asked for the big order. That order had 9 mushrooms. Our bill showed that the «tavern size» was $ 1.99. For 4x the $, you’d think you’d get 12 mushrooms.
The first waitress was awful. We had to flag her down for everything. There was one other person at the bar.
There was a juke box and music overhead playing at the same time which was annoying.
A second waitress came in and replaced the first. She was great. Immediately fixed the music and noticed our waters were empty.

We haven’t been back to this place for over 17 yrs but we came back now because it’s under new management and the picture of the place was decent, a big change from before!
The reviews helped too.
The food was decent, portions were realistic in size too.
The service wasn’t the best. I had to ask for coffee creamer twice and we had to wait ten minutes before we did get it so our tea and coffee was like warm at that point. Then I had to wait again when I asked twice for water! We saw a trend here
The place was clean and that was the biggest change from how it was 17 yrs ago.

Great food but the prices have gone through the roof they have doubled in the last year and a half

Very good service. Had the liver and onions which was cooked to perfection. Sauteed veggies were also very good, but the mashed potatoes and gravy did not taste homemade. I was there during the dinner hour (about 6 pm) but there was only one other patron there. i would go back, although it would not be my first choice.

Surprisingly great bar! The food was tasty, but the bar and all the cool hang out space is what impressed me. It’s so huge and fun inside!

I have been to Big Z several times before and was always happy with their food and service. Today, however, was horrible. The service was terrible. We had to wait forever for our coffee and longer than that for our food. We sat there and watched our food sitting in the window for at least 15 minutes before the server finally got around to bringing it to us. I think it was actually longer. Then she never brought us coffee creamer, ketchup, and syrup. We had to go up and ask another server to get it for us. The food was cold… After sitting in the window for so long, and the portions were much smaller than on previous occasions. We never got our coffee refilled, which was ok because it tasted like crap and we were just ready to get out of there. The manager, or someone came over and apologized for the lousy service, but they didn’t take anything off of our check which was way overpriced for what we got. This will be the last time I will ever eat there and would recommend anyone else to go somewhere else. PATHETIC!!!

This place was different. We decided to go because we got a groupon online. When we got there it seemed like an old Denny’s style restaurant. There was a very noisy poker game going on in the middle of the restaurant and a bar in the back that interesting looking people kept walking through the restaurant to get to. All that being said the food was awesome! Best onion rings I’ve ever had! We have now gone 4 times and the food has always been wonderful. The loud poker game has always been there. We have had different degrees of service each time. The first time when we got our bill everything was at least a dollar more then what was on the menu and I ordered raspberry sorbet and she brought me that play dough ice cream. When I told her it wasn’t right she said it was and walked away. We had a coupon so I wasn’t going to worry about it. The next two times we had perfect service. Last time the lady was new and got a couple things wrong but fixed them. All in all we will be back for the food. Great food and selection and good prices!

What a fool’s paradise!
A total drug rehab going on outside the front doors of this wannabe restaurant.
It’s gotten a facelift recently, but it’s the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig.
Big portions for greasy truckers and a bar in the back for local trash. Nothing good about this dump. Stay away. Go to the outlaw for a fun time.

I suggested my husband and I go there because I heard it was good. Wow were we surprised. We didn’t stay to eat because my husband’s glass of Ice Tea had slimy stuff inside the cup. He went to stir it up and this slime came up. It was either an egg had been broken in the glass and then not washed out or even worse it looked like human snot. We both had to rush to the restroom and be physically ill. My husband has a strong stomach and he threw up over and over. I think the Health Department needs to visit soon because this is not a safe place to eat.

The food was Sh*t and there is no reason why I would come back. They burnt there Meatloaf. The food Is bland and the service sucks being from NY I would never come back here again.

I cant believe how great this food was for the price! And the portion sizes, OMG! The staff were great. our waitress shae was sweet and fast! We met the owner, he was nice and very inviting. there a bar in the back, very nice and fun! only complaint is the large, large, i’ll say it again, LARGE menu! so many options, odd. but other than that, we will definitely be going back on our way home!

Promptly offered drinks and was told about the specials at the salad bar.
Drink and dessert specials are visible with pricing available.
Prices were very reasonable for the food you recieve. My husbands Food came out within 10mins of ordering and I had to wait another 10mins for mine. I wish the food came out together.
Had to ask a few times for a straw and refill.
It was kind of busy but they were still on top of things to an extent.

The wait staff were excellent. Ordered the tres Amigos fajitas, what was supposed to be steak turned out to be a chopped up hamburger pattie. How sad that they thought they could pass that off. I expected more and got less. I can’t abide that kind of service.

Gone here a couple of times for breakfast and had nothing to complain about, good food and timely service

This place was very dirty. We watched our breakfast wait in the window getting cold for 5 minutes. The waitstaff was friendly but didn’t seem to know the menu very well. The atmosphere needed a serious update. The chicken fried steak was good but the gravy was cold. The music was in an unorganized variety. the bacon was not how I remember. The pancakes were not bad. Prices were reasonable.

Amazing food cooked to perfection! Great staff! Kid friendly! Welcoming atmosphere! Highly recommended!

The food was good, the atmosphere was a lot nicer than what I expected from the outside, portions were good.
They have a large menu. Lots of breakfast, lunch, dinner choices and then a Mexican menu!
Although I did not look at their spirits menu they advertised that they served beer and alcohol. I don’t know how extensive their bar is though.
I would have given it a 5 star rating but the waitress was more interested in watching the tv than serving us. Plus at the end before we left she fiddled with her hair and didn’t wash her hands. I don’t know if she would have washed them first if she planned to do anything but pick up our dishes next.

Big Z has re-​opened in the location where they were for many years, maybe. The place is much nicer than it was before, new seating, a counter area, and several flat screen TVs. Like before they have a diner type menu with all the regulars you would expect, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I say that the Big Z maybe returned because they don’t have anything that made them the original Big Z, fans of the old Big Z will remember the heaping pile of bacon, the huge portions, etc, none of that seems to exist in this new incarnation.
The food was good, breakfast is hard to mess up but they did mess up the wife’s chicken fried chicken. They had an option for Chicken and biscuits, chicken breast on biscuits with eggs all smothered in cream gravy, sounded great but wasn’t so good. On the positive side the biscuits and gravy where good, the eggs cooked over easy as requested but the chicken was shoe leather. They pounded the chicken down to about ¼ inch thick then cooked it to death, very disappointing.
I got a standard breakfast, eggs, hash browns (even though I ordered home fries), sausage, bacon and a side order of pancakes. The pancakes were the star big, fluffy and tasty (despite only having maple syrup, no other options) the other items were done well but nothing extraordinary.
They had a lot of waitresses on staff to handle the small Sunday morning crowd, possibly a 1:1 ratio of waitresses to tables but we still got slow mediocre services.
