I cannot even speak to the pizza because after getting here at 7:50 pm and being seated two tables away from a large group(10 or so) of well behaved teenagers who had two servers bringing their 6 pizzas and two pitchers of soda, we ended up walking out without ordering. At almost 8:30 pm, despite multiple servers having walked back and forth by and seeing our menus down on the table, no one bothered to stop and take our order. Besides the group of teens, there were two other tables and a total of four waitresses milling about.

Love the crust, and variety of quality toppings. High — end for pizza lovers, and worth the price in a world where pizza and chinese food shops are on every corner waiting to disappoint you.

Pizza is very good but I was surprised when I ordered two slices to go to get what would be 4 slices from a small pizza. I guess that’s the only size they serve. Small pizza for a large pie price. I’d have slices again but would never get a full pie. I’d have to order 3 for

A must before the Essex steam train, or a night out with the family! The pizza selection is great, along with a wide selection of beer. The location makes it easy to get in and out of. During the holidays it can be tough getting reservations, but things move along. The kids enjoyed the trains upstairs, and the service as extremely helpful and understanding of family needs.

Sat upstairs, where they have trains set up. Great for kids. Ordered a salad, 2 pizzas and a kids pasta. One pizza was barely warm, the other room temperature, and the pasta was cold. We waited a while, and were hungry, and nobody wanted to wait for everything to be sent back. The pizzas tasted good, but everything had obviously been sitting for a while before it was delivered.

Thought this place would be awesome judging by the reviews we read ahead of time. Turns out… it was horrible from food to service! Food: Had clam and bacon pizza and a regular cheese pizza. The clam pizza was oily and as it sat for a while, the canned clams(looked and tasted canned to me) began to shrivel up. I then moved on to the cheese pizza figuring you can’t go wrong with just cheese and sauce. Sauce was VERY acidic and just wasn’t good. Struck out on both pizzas unfortunately. Service: As soon as we were done eating we placed our napkins on the pie plate and someone was right there to clean up. That was the good part… THEN…our waitress places the check on the table. We were with our two kids who wanted dessert and we weren’t even asked. I’m surprised she didn’t hand us our coats and warm our car for us. If you want to eat at a place who rushes you out the door without offering all they have to offer to paying customers that usually tip well… I highly recommend this place.

Pizza works in beautiful OldSaybrook CT is a diamond in the rough! Directly next to Old Saybrook’s Amtrack train station is this spectacular place! First of all they have more beers then Irish pubs Ive been too in the recent past! It’s pretty cool when you hear a train go by. But most importantly the food is wonderful and so do fresh!!! We started with the Gorgonzola salad, WOW! But being a pizza restaurant I have a rule. Anytime I’m having pizza somewhere for the first time I always have Pepperoni, Hamburg and sometime green peppers too! This pizza was wonderful. A crispy crust along with delicious oils, cheese, sauce! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Pizza works! They are handicap accessible and have a nicely lit outdoor patio too!

I went to Pizza Works for the first time with a friend of mine in the beginning of July. The service was great, maybe because of how few guests there was. I ordered the sausage and peppers pizza and my friend got the pizza with potatoes, both were great. In a city like Old Saybrook it’s difficult to compete with all the other pizza restaurants around. However, I think Pizza Works is to be counted as one of the better ones.

My husband and I came here thanks to the reviews on Unilocal and I am really glad that we did! The restaurant is really easy to find, right off I-95 and next the train station. Since they are next to the train station — they have a train theme going. Pictures on the walls and decorations throughout the restaurant. The tables have red checked table clothes. It has a really nice décor. Plus — If you dine upstairs you can even see the trains arrive and depart. Their side salads also included a basket of their focaccia bread, which was a nice surprise. My husband really enjoyed his salad and mentioned that the salad dressing had a really good flavor, and the bread was really good. It was a good size basket of bread and by itself it’s only $ 1.50. You get a good size portion for what you pay! What drew us in was the fact they have whole wheat crust, which my husband prefers. It was also no additional charge, unlike some restaurants so that was a bonus as well. However, there is only one size option, which is 12 inch. Might not be good for a large group, but just for a few people it’s ideal. There are so many specialty pizza’s that I was indecisive, and our waitress told me that we could do half/half even if one was red and one was white, which were the two I was going between! I did a half/half of 5 cheese and potato pizza. I’ve honestly never seen a better half/half pizza especially considering one half was white and one was red. Both sides were very flavorful and good! My husband ordered the clam pizza and really enjoyed his as well. We each had lunch for the day next. The pizza reheats really well in the oven. Service was very friendly, we never had our drinks empty. An added bonus for us was the fact they have Pepsi products. Mountain Dew and pizza is one of my favorite combinations. Just wish they offered calzones! Soon we will be living only 30 mins away from Pizza Works and I have a feeling it might become our new pizza place.

The $ 16 large is a small everywhere else. They cut it into 8 but reality is it is 4 normal slice size, or two nyc size. Asked for chicken and ricotta on it and they said we had to choose mozzarella or ricotta, I pay extra for extra cheese every other pizza place, why they refuse to put two cheeses is beyond me. The chicken is diced and sparse and tastes like frozen bulk chicken in solution of salt then they added pepper when they cooked it. It did appear to be cooked when I bit into it despite appearances of under done(microwaved maybe) and rubbery texture. I am passing through this area and the place I wanted to go had already closed as it is Sunday. I’ll keep driving hungry next time to whatever is down the road. Oh asked for paper plate to eat on and they said NO! Oh couldn’t eat it, when I lifted a slice the front drooped soggily yet the edge was beyond crisp. The ricotta was flavorless and dried out thin discs on it. Sauce tasted like dominoes, not a good thing.

Great beer list. Salads were awesome… the small will feed 2 people! Tried clam & bacon, BBQ chicken and sausage/pepperoni/mushroom…pizzas are average with BBQ chicken being the best. Not bad, but not in Pepe’s league.

Subpar pizza. I’m not sure how this place stays in business when there are so many better pizza alternatives in Old Saybrook. In my opinion Alfornos, Paisan, Luigi, and Sal’s all make a better pizza. I think Pizza Works remains popular for two reasons; it has a very centralized location(right next to the OS train station) and the novelty of their toy trains is a big hit with little kids. My pizza, although it wasn’t Greek style pizza, in an odd way it reminded me of Greek style pizza. I don’t know if it was the crust, the sauce, or the cheese, but something about it just wasn’t right. I mean, the four pizzerias I mentioned above could probably compete with the big pizza powerhouses in New Haven. Pizza Works… not so much. I don’t know if Pizza Place in Westerly is owned by the same owners. If not, then they have the uncanny coincidence of sharing the same exact logo. By the way, I’m not sure what that other guy’s rant was about over mozzarella, but I guess some Unilocalers will go to great lengths to get something for nothing. It’s good to know some reviews are up for sale and can be bought. I’ll keep that in mind in the future when I’m broke and am looking to receive a free pizza.

This place is pretty hit or miss. I have been here no less than a dozen times and have had some really yummy pies and some less than stellar. Consistently good: the chopped salad. Their use of pasta in the salad is amaze– balls and I will def order this every time I come here. The BBQ Pizza is also a very solid choice and by far my fave pie on the menu. On the other hand, some of the other offerings are rather blah. Take the grilled veggie pizza. It was supposed to feature sun dried tomato pesto and grilled veggies. The«pesto» had literally no flavor, in fact I had to convince my sister it was even on the pizza. The veggies were def not grilled… just thrown on raw and cooked in the oven. The restaurant itself is also in need of some TLC. The table next to us was propped on a stack of dirty napkins to keep it level. They also feature a large sign when you enter prohibiting parties from bringing in cupcakes and cake«to prevent disturbing other patrons.» Literally, the weirdest excuse I have ever read, I guess the manager is assuming I would be offended by a child eating a cupcake at their birthday party? Service, follows the theme of inconsistent. Have had very nice servers on occasions and today had a young woman who literally acted like our mere presence annoyed her.

This is an old favourite of ours, with many visits over the years. Pizza Works is immediately adjacent to the railroad station in Old Saybrook, CT, and it continues that theme with miniature railroad sets in the restaurant. We always check the sets out to see if there has been anything new added. The focus of the menu is, of course, is on the hand-made pizza, but there are also very nice salads that start off the meal well. We split a large garden salad which was made even better with a fresh oil and vinegar dressing. The pizzas we ordered this night were a split of clam and bacon, and a specially ordered pizza for Justin, the 12 year old, who wanted his own toppings, including black olives and plenty of mozzarella. The secret to any pizza is the crust, and these crusts were well made, thin, and crusty. They made the entire pizza toppings taste better, as a solid foundation. The toppings were all fresh, and very delicious. We devoured the two pizzas, 16 slices, in less than a half hour. All is all, it was a satisfactory meal, and one that we really enjoyed. We may have to return later in this vacation to make sure they keep up the standards! :)

Solid joint. My fam has been getting their pizza breads for years now. And they darned fine breads, if I do say so myself! Just tried the jalapeño poppers and bacon cheeseburger sub this weekend. Decent. Not the best I’ve had. But eight poppers to an order, nice size to the sub, burger went from tip of roll to tip of roll. Cheap prices. Decent food. Solid!

Visited for the first time in about 15 years(I’ve moved away from this area), and the pizza is still solid. We came slightly early for Sunday lunch with my parents and my small children, and we had our pick of tables. We chose to go upstairs and there’s a larger table in the back corner tucked right into the model train exhibit, which our children enjoyed. Our waitress was super friendly. My wife and I enjoyed the red potato pizza that brought back memories of the same stellar pie at Willington Pizza during our time at UConn. Pizza Work’s is just as good. My parents ordered their favorite, the Rosie. My only complaint was the iced tea was mediocre. The pies were pretty perfect.
