The best thing about this place is the koi pond outside. I heard fried chicken was good here. My niece was visiting, and wanted fried chicken, so I took the kids here. Completely overpriced and not worth it. $ 19.00 for the meal. I was expecting great fried chicken. We both were whatever about it. It did come with enough food for us to share. Sticking with Apongs for fried chicken next time. The kids menu was reasonably priced. My daughter ordered a hamburger which was no good. The side salad that came with meal had a bunch of old lettuce in it. The croutons tasted gross. My sons grilled cheese was probably the best tasting thing we ordered. Everyone was also old there. I don’t plan to ever go back.

Nice to be back to Billy Reed’s. Service was great, food tasty and reasonably priced. Enjoying one of the remaining«old Palm Springs» venues.

Old fashion place. Old furnishes. Very homey feel. Big place and good for groups. Service was awesome. I was recommended to this place but I would only rate this place as average. The food was ok but nothing we had was a wow factor for us. I had their beef stroganoff. It was a huge portion but it was seasoned with dill? It was a weird taste and I wonder if they just seasoned it wrong. I had to add pepper but the dill seasoning was too strong. I had a side Ceasar salad and it was pretty good with enough dressing on it with cheese. My youngest daughter’s had their pot pie. Huge portion and pretty good but bread on top was kind of dry. It would taste better with a flakier crust. She had a side cup of clam chowder and that was good. My eldest daughter had the salmon ceasar salad. This was a pretty good size serving. The salad was not dressed well with dressing and the salmon was cooked well. I suggest to cook it half way so it’s softer instead of dry. My son had the kids chicken tenders and fries. Good portion and tastes like it should. My middle daughter had a eggs Benedict with hash brown. Good portion and was good as she finished it. She orders a side cinnamon bun. Good size but it was only ok. My husband had the roast beef hot sandwich which was huge and pretty good minus the bread. You don’t need to eat it since you’ll be full without it. Average place to eat. Love the huge koi fish outside but not sure this would be considered my favorite place to eat. They serve you side buttered bread with your salad but it was a little too toasted on top but ok.

Love this place! It has a real old world charm and the people watching can’t be beat. Food is OK. You have to check out the giant oak bar, it’s gorgeous.

This place is amazing. Excellent home cooked food and everyone who works there are a team and know exactly what they are to do. Billy and Robby brought this place back to life and it’s honestly the best food in the desert. Rita is a server there and is also amazing and doesn’t miss a detail We love this restaurant.

Something on the menu for everyone! There are so many great choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This old school Palm Springs institution does not disappoint. Super friendly staff and huge dining room can probably always accommodate you. Also a great spot to go if you’re just in the mood for dessert. I saw at least 20 dessert items to satisfy your sweet tooth. Don’t miss this place.

This was recommended to us for a delicious dinner. As you can see we were not treated like they wanted our business. We had arrived to PS early evening and by the time we got our room we changed and walked over to Billy Reeds it was 8:20 when we walked in. We got a eye rolling greeting from the young lady Saturday night and a smiling greeting from the gentleman. Food: The fish was delicious however the girls that ordered steak not so good. One was far too salty and the other had to be sent back for lack of flavor and a really bad mushy texture. Our server was very nice. Very disappointed

Interesting décor. Huge menu a plus. Traditional fare. I’ve had lunch here and enjoyed it. Dinner though was only so-so. I had prime rib. Everything was decent but not especially flavorful. I think Elmer’s has a better prime rib… But at a much lower price. By contrast this place is expensive. I thought 38 bucks for the smaller cut of prime rib plus dessert is too much. All for just one person! I think I’ll stick to lunch here. Went again. Had the chicken pot pie. Waiter said its the most popular item. My opinion? Would be nice if it had flavor! The frozen pot pie at Trader Joes is superior.

Safety Warning!!!: Billy Reed’s management states that they have a perpetual problem with an African American man in a wheel chair panhandling people for money in the parking lot. He wheeled up to us as my kids were getting into the backseat of the car. He aggressively asked for money for something to eat and while I hesitated to reach into my pocket and give him something I felt obligated to offer him a single dollar from coat pocket. Evidently this was not enough to satisfy him as he asked my partner who already told him no for money as well. He got angry muttered a few inaudible words when he was told no again and told me to, «keep my dollar!» I told him to have a nice evening and he appeared to be trying to stand-up rather than backing away. As I moved forward my partner came to back of the vehicle and he left angrily yelling some pretty nasty words in front of my kids. I immediately called the restaurant to let them know what had happened and found out they have a restraining order against this individual. The girl who answered the phone initially told me to call back and speak to a manager. After about thirty minutes or so I called back and was treated horribly by the manager or owner. He was pretty unapologetic about our experience and stated, «the homeless situation in this town is out of control and I can’t do a damn thing about it!» When I told him it was disappointing to spend $ 75 for dinner and then feel unsafe in the parking lot afterwards he said, «too bad… I have to deal with him all of the time! You’ve already moved on!» Then he hung up on me. So we will not be going back there for this reason alone. I recommend that you let anyone eating at this establishment after dark you warn them of the potential for harassment in the dark parking lot. Seriously, I am pretty situationally aware in parking lots but this guy is pretty stealth. =============================== The Dining Experience The food is always hit or miss but tonight we wanted to stay close to home and have some comfort food. I thought it would be a good idea to eat here as the kids like the chicken strips off of the kids menu. Their food was pretty good. I had the liver and onions and it must have been an off night for the cook. It didn’t quite hit the high marks it usually does. The hollandaise was broken down a bit and there was very little of it compared to other times. It seemed as if they ran out of the sauce in the middle of making my entrée. My partner had the ribs and had no complaints. The service was good as usual but the inconsistencies with the food quality is pretty disappointing for a $ 19 entrée. I am giving it 3 stars only because of the service and the food most nights is pretty good.

We were vacationing two weekends ago in Palm Springs, and my parents(retirees) brought us to Billy Reeds’ for dinner on a Friday night. Getting in was no problem without a reservation, though the parking lot was definitely packed. We also ate breakfast on a Tuesday morning — a deserted parking lot, and a deserted restaurant. BR’s definitely is old school Palm Springs — and still caters to the oldies in Palm Springs. The menu is fairly typical but a huge array of choices. What I do like about Billy’s is that the dinner entrees are a full meal deal — meaning salad or soup, bread, and entrée is included in the price. With that in mind, you do get better value at BR’s than many restaurants that do not include the same extras. I’m doing Weight Watchers, so I have to say BR’s doesn’t have a lot of healthful choices for me. I went with what I thought was an okay choice, the Chicken Piccata with a lemon sauce. The sauce was anything but lemony and was pretty gloopy and oily so turned out to be a not so great choice. The vegetables — braised bok choy — was pretty damn delicious and I skipped the starch. The date nut bread to start(served hot!) was delicious and worth the cheat for me. The salad was crisp and the oil & vinegar — served in separate bottles — was to be expected. Breakfast wasn’t anything to write home about, either — I had your typical eggs, bacon, fruit(instead of hashbrowns) and toast. What was mouth-watering about breakfast at Billy’s was the mammoth-sized fresh cinnamon roll my husband ordered to go with his breakfast. It was huge, it was fresh, and it was everything a housemade cinnamon roll should be. I think where Billy’s really shines, in my opinion, is service. It’s prompt, efficient, and your glass is always full but we never felt rushed. Go here for decent food, reasonable prices, and old-fashioned service. Will I be back? Well, if I’m back in Palm Springs anytime I would be likely to stop because it’s man-pleasing food and my husband raved about their succulent rib dinner.

Great place. Came here after hearing people talk about it. Yes it is old school and we love it. My wife and I both had prime rib rare. Cooked right. Came with soup or salad bread and a side. We both had baked potatoes and tried soup and salad. All were very good. Another go to place in the desert

Remember Shady Pines from The Golden Girls? This is the lunch room. I’m pretty certain we were the only guests with our own teeth still planted in our gums. Our first time there wasn’t great. I ordered the«famous» chili. I won’t say what it’s famous for with me. Let’s just say I sent it back and didn’t eat anything else. The next visit was better. The Chicken Pot Pie soup was awesome and our sandwiches were tasty, too. If you REALLY want to blow your calorie count, try one of the homemade desserts. Every single one looked fantastic. We did get tired of Dave walking around showing the desserts to each table but hey, he had cake to move!

If you want a cool trip back in time and decent food while you’re at it, Billy Reed’s is your place. The sign says“Since 1975″ but the décor says«Since 1890». Not really(the 1890s part), but it really does look like a mashup between an old west saloon and the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. Ridiculously high ceilings for no good reason all, but it’s COOL in a retro way, or a «maybe this place is haunted» way. I can see both octogenarians and hipsters alike digging this place. The portions are big and diner-like. But don’t get cute on your menu choices. Get something«safe». For example, the burgers are amazing, the fries in the top 5 best fries I’ve ever had, and the club sandwich is made with a big, honkin’ piece of chicken breast and not just some crappy slides«fake» deli meat. I don’t recommend the Ruben or other specialty sammies — stick with breakfast, prime rib, club sandwich, along those lines. I saw a woman with the stroganov, and it looked like something from my Betty Crocker Cookbook(Copyright date, 1952). I mean both classic and yucky. Stiff egg noodles and all. So this five star review is based on everything I’ve ever eaten here: burger, breakfasts, classic sandwiches(grilled cheese, club). If you stick to the ordinary, you will be pleasantly surprised by the extraordinary quality, service and taste. Ask the server what’s «popular» in the area you’re interested in(sandwiches, chicken, etc). Stick to that, and you’re good to go! This is my go to place for a big ass burger when I’ve got the hankering.

If you ever go to Palm Springs, you have to come to this place. Its original old school charm. Everything from the décor and the classic comfort food. The restaurant is huge. We were greeted and seated right away. Massive menu and a great kids menu too. Drinks and food service was quick. Ordered Chicken Parm and it also came with a garden salad, It was good and tasted very authentic Italian. Food service was good and the dessert to die for. Try the carrot cake. So good! Everytime I come to Palm Springs, I make a point of stopping in at least once. Great for anytime of day. Thanks again.

Décor is nice like I’m at grandma’s house. The staff is nice and friendly here. One guy walked around and showed every table what two of the cakes looked like. I was very excited until I realized it was $ 6.25 per slice. It sounds expensive to me but I don’t know what the going price for a slice is. I had the French Dip Au Ju sandwich. It was good. The fries were really good. I finished everything, which normally doesn’t happen. The setting was really nice. The place is huge! They have a nice koi pond at the entrance with big beautiful fish. I like the friendly family type of vibe this place gives off. My fiancé got the fishwich which she liked a lot. We might be back just to try some other dishes on the menu for that extra star :-)
