I gotta say I LOVE this place. You cant go wrong, big portions, great food, great value, fast, did I say delicious. Defiantly a must when in PS!

Clean restaurant that serves large portions for a decent price! Came here for breakfast/brunch as we were leaving Palm Springs. I ordered the sausage link platter which came with eggs, hash browns, and an english muffin. My boyfriend ordered the California omelette — bacon, mushrooms, avocado. He didn’t think the omelette was that great but we both agreed the quality of the food was worth the price. The orange juice was pretty good as well — tasted freshly squeezed. Worth a try!

Pretty average-tasting breakfast faire — not a large variety to choose from but it is ok. Prices are pretty reasonable. I’d probably go there again for lunch/dinner instead next time.

Every city or town’s gotta have their local joint where you can pretty much order as many types of unhealthy food as possible. Well, Palm Springs has John’s and my buddy knew it was the best spot available to settle the chicken fried steak cravings I had for a while. Solid not spectacular, it definitely hit the spot. Plus you can’t go wrong with their ginormously huge serving of hash browns(extra crispy please!). For the price, you cannot go wrong here. Service was also very friendly as well.

Stopped into this place just now as we’ve heard about it before and didn’t feel like driving to dinner. It’s no frills or fancy, just a diner where you walk up to order from the menu on the wall and they bring your food to you at your vinyl booth. I had the turkey, cheese, avocado melt which was oh so good. Smothered in butter the way a good«melt» is supposed to be. Warm and tasty. Came with sweet potato fries(which were quite good) and a Coke. D had the salmon niciose which was ok but loaded with fresh veggies and topped with vinaigrette. He said the fish was a bit fishy but he ate the entire thing. Best thing though is the convenience and the price. So used to paying $ 15 each for a sandwich and a salad. This food is very reasonable for the quantity and the taste and friendly service. Can’t wait to try a burger. Maybe«The Heartstopper»

We ordered five different meals and all of them tasted deliciously good! Servings are huge too!

Stopped at the first place I saw after hiking a section of the Cactus to Clouds Skyline Trail. I’m always hungry as hell after I hike all day, plus this place had the same name as my dad. So I figured how could I go wrong. The service was fast. My food was nice and hot. I ordered the Sourdough Bacon Cheeseburger and it was huge, and not all bun either. The Sourdough was grilled just right and the fries were seasoned and crispy. Oh, and free refills on the soda. That’s a good thing, because I’m always thirsty as hell after hiking too. I definitely found my ‘Place to Go’ after hiking near by!

Great food. Cool place. Kinda confusing for a first timer. You order at the counter and then sit down. Great variety of food too. Quick service even with the number of people in line.

Nasty food. I got watery fishy salmon with soggy vegetables and flavorless rice pilaf

Came here for breakfast and I have to say it was good. Although I didn’t really care for the pancakes since they were kind of rubbery. The prices were cheap and the portions were large. Overall it wasn’t the best but decent.

Good solid breakfast at very reasonable prices. Order at the counter and they’ll bring the food to you. Eggs were cooked well, bacon crispy and steak juicy, but everything was under seasoned — nothing a couple hits of the salt shaker couldn’t fix.

I have lived in Palm Springs for awhile now and only recently tried John’s Restaurant. I know… you’re probably just like me… you drive by it all the time, back and forth, back and forth. You look at the sign thinking, «It is just a coffee shop.» So, here’s my «two cents»… Stop driving by and go in! You won’t be disappointed. In fact, I visit it at least weekly now. Yep… it is a regular stop for me when I want something quick and tasty. Great menu… Anything you might want, they have it! Friendly staff. Clean. And, yes, great food too.

Location is good, service is generally good, food is consistently good and well priced. A favorite of local workers and folks wanting a quick, easy and budget friendly meal. The only 2 things I would suggest improvement is: 1. They really need a person on fly patrol during the warm months. I avoid then place in summer because I don’t want to defend my food from flies landing every 20 seconds. 2. They have a person who patrols tables and runs food. She is nice and helpful, but she is too busy to really ensure that all tables have everything they need at all times. So, I would recommend putting an additional person on per shift to walk around and tend to tables requests(like soda and water refills, condiments, ordering desert, etc). That way I won’t have to watch someone bus empty tables while I need a refill. Otherwise, no problems.

A family breakfast get-together was planned for this place, and we all managed to arrive more-or-less on time, which was 8 a.m. on a Sunday. Arranging seating for 15 people was a bit difficult. We appropriated a corner booth and slopped over into adjacent booths. So the question here, «Good for groups» really depends on the size of the group. Anyway, as others have noted, the procedure is like Carl’s Jr. in that you order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. I broke with tradition and instead of ordering a country-fried steak I got the Country Scramble instead, with sausage. Yummy! But about four times as much I would normally eat! I could only down about half of it and they almost had to roll me out the door. Everybody else said their food was really, really good. As to the noise level, it was moderate when we arrived but by 8:40 there was a crowd of people inside, eating and lining up to place their orders and it was quite noisy, making conversation difficult. Otherwise, hey, this is a good place to scarf down some goodies. I expect to come back and load up on the country-fried steak.

Walk in: Stand in line and look at the vast menu of options and try to decide by the time you get to the counter. Order at the counter: Oh my word… they have the best hash browns here. SUPER crispy and a HUGE portion. MUST order. Although they were really busy, and I asked a bunch of questions about the menu, the lady at the counter was really helpful and didn’t seem like she was getting annoyed with me. *thankful* Find a seat: You get a number and you choose whichever seating option you want… including outside! If it’s a nice day, the outside patio is a great option(although the tables don’t get cleaned as often). Conclusion: Great place to get a casual breakfast in Palm Springs. It has the fun diner feel and the food portions are large.

300 miles of driving, one hotel without a restaurant and a city that closes at 9PM – all left me no choice but to run to John’s restaurant at 8:45, to have any hope at having dinner. Typical diner fare, atypically friendly staff — order taker, servers, cooks. I was getting food to go: a honey chicken dinner special, which came with rice and mixed vegetables. They were happy to substitute rice for a baked potato with all the fixings and substitute mixed vegetables for fried zucchini sticks. Everything was delicious and plentiful. I asked for a pepperoncini and got a plastic tub of pepperoncini. I asked for a slice of lemon and got three wedges. It’s rare to find a place that doesn’t nickel & dime you AND is good. Just found one in Palm Springs!

Couple friends and I were craving diner food during the Fourth of July weekend. Came across this place on Unilocal the morning we were leaving and decided to try it. Parking is okay, there’s a small lot for all the cars to park in. Walked in, thinking we were going to be seated by a waiter/waitress only to be greeted by a bunch of customers who were just staring at us… Waitress comes up to us and tells us we order and then sit anywhere we like. Okay interesting … I ordered a country scramble. Got my number and sat at a table. We all received our food in about 5 – 10 minutes which was super quick. Although the portions were huge, I thought everything tasted just okay. Had some of my friend’s pancakes, they were okay. The country fried steak was okay as well. I thought that hash was super under seasoned. And I felt that customer service wasn’t that great because the concept was«order at the counter, sit down, eat and leave.» You kind of have to wave/flag them down. Overall, I thought the food was mediocre since it was on the pricey side. Don’t think I’ll be back though. #sorrynotsorry

Yes! Quick and easy American breakfast. Great price, great portions, great flavors! Ordered the biscuits and gravy combo(7.50) which came with two biscuits, 3 eggs and two sausages. Are you kidding me?! What a great deal! My buddies were pretty satisfied with their eggs Benedict, Chicken fajita omelette with green chile verde sauce and steak and eggs. ALLDELICIOUS!

During our stay for Coachella we met 2 locals that recommended this spot, since a favorite had closed down after being sold. So we gave it a try. I was immediately disappointed that it is more like fast food than sit down dinning. At least you get real plates, silver wear(my steak knife had dried egg on both sides). They do bring you the food after you’ve stood in line for 5 — 10 minutes to order. The best item we had was the Orange Juice with my Grilled Tri-Tip a close second. My friends eggs were perfect where mine were so over cooked there was very little runny yoke. The Home Fries are tasty but could be cut to a larger size. All in all it was an adequate meal. The Burger photos on the wall seemed to be more appetizing than the breakfast menu. So it’s fast food at sit down prices. Not much different than McD’s except they bring it to you for a higher price. If you want better food at the same prices without standing in line, there are lots of other spots to try. Leave this one to the locals wanting a quick carry out.

Yummy, inexpensive no frills food. You walk up to the counter to order and they bring you your food. I sat at one of the tiny two person booths and felt a little cramped. The food came out quickly and was a good little greasy(not in a bad way) breakfast. It is very casual and portions are giant.
