Silverbird Woodfired and Gastropub

The place
It is located in downtown Penn Yann and is a bit deceiving when you pull up front it looks small. However when you walk in you see it is really quite big! So getting a table shouldnt be a problem most anytime!
The food
I have done two really big take out ordered and I will say I was very impressed. As a few people said the woodfire pizza is really good. We ordered a large bacon and ham pizza and were fighting over who got to eat the last piece. Next up is the wings they were solid my only complaint was they weren’t crispy enough! I find this to be a common problem with alot places. However the BBQ and Teriyaki both had great flavor. I chose the charred option which gave them a smoky flavor which we liked. Next up the Steak salad man was it good! The steak in the salad was done very well!!! All the ingredients blended well again my only complaint they ran out of the almond dressing so we had to make due with an alternative. Finally the Brisket sandwich I ordered was great. I have no idea is they smoke it or for how long I can tell you that the meat in their BBQ sauce tasted great!
Coffee
Yes I thought this a little weird but they have a full coffee bar and since I was waiting for my order I ordered a latte. I was impressed it has great flavor I forgot to ask who kind of beans they used. I can tell you being a coffee snob I wasn’t disappointed!
The staff
Since I have done take out only I can comment as to just my talks with the staff while I was waiting. They were all very friendly in our casual comversations. I hope to give them a try sometime soon!
The verdict
This is my new favorite place in Penn Yan I have been to most of them but I can honestly say I have tried quite a few things off the menu and most were great. I would strongly recommend you give this place a try.

In the area for a Finger Lakes wine tour. Really good food and cool, industrial vibe. Good menu too.

The food was good but the service was horrible. It wasn’t very busy and we waited 30 minutes for a server to come to our table. We went to the bar and ordered beer ourselves while we waited. After we finally got our food and we were done eating, we waited forever again for a server. We even grabbed our own boxes from the shelf to wrap up our leftovers.

My wife and I had dinner here later on a Saturday evening. The menu is very large which in some ways is good, but makes you wonder how everything can be fresh. Ordered accent grains with chicken and she ordered pizza. My meal come to the table about 10 minutes before her pizza which was very strange. I finally started eating because I did not want to eat a cold dinner. The dish was very good as was the pizza. The décor is also a bit strange. Part bowling ally, part coffee shop paper bar. Gives you the impression the place owners don’t know exactly what they want the place to be. The service was okay until the bill arrived. With only one other couple in the place we waited for a long time to pay. Finally had to go to the bar to pay our bill. Overall I would return

A definite «must do again» experience.
Lots of things we didn’t try but everything we did was so good.
The lattes were spot on even sporting foam art. Largest selection of flavored syrups I have ever seen.
Both of our meals were very delicious. I had the strawberry champagne vinaigrette and was very pleased at the flavor it added to my side salad. The sweet potato fries were perfectly cooked, not greasy one bit.
I’ll be bringing friends and family back. Great place.

Great space! My father and I ordered the same thing cooked the same way. My steak was wonderful, my father’s steak was way over done. The space is great, when finished with our meal my father wandered around with my toddler nefew who found the skeet all very entertaining. For a gastro-​pub the beer selection was a bit dismal.

We loved our wood fired pizza! The best I have had in the area in a long time. The menu is definitively large — maybe too large in my honest opinion — but the pizza is worth the drive from Hammondsport. Or Bath. Or Geneva. Or Canandaigua. Yes. I have searched for good pizza and this is it in the Finger Lakes.
The Silverbird is a great alternative in the morning to grabbing coffee at Dunkin Donuts. They offer brewed coffee to go with their breakfast sandwiches, or custom barrista created espressos and cappuccinos. There are also organic teas and chai lattes, Italian sodas, fresh juices, and fruit smoothies.
I would take off a star for cleanliness… It was kinda dark and sketchy looking. Not a happy place…

Great wood fired pizza and good wings. They have a very extensive menu. I recommend to everyone.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. This was by far the worst pizza and wings I ever ate. The pizza tasted like a bad version of a Tombstone frozen pizza. It was as if they used tomato paste for sauce and put cheese and pepperoni on top. The wings that were supposed to have hot wing sauce seemed to use some kind of tomato based sauce and threw in a bunch of red pepper flakes. I would have been embarrassed to serve this garbage to people if I owned this restaurant.

Great breakfast! They offer a kids breakfast menu too which is very reasonably priced. The Mexican skillet was delicious. We would definitely go back.

First… the chef and waitress were amazing. They had some things off the menu that were available and my hubbie had to partake. New York strip with a balsamic reduction and bleu cheese cooked to perfection and these fries that were amazing. I had a wood fired pizza… imagine, chicken, tomato, jalapeño, cilantro and lemon all together… delicious!
If you are in Penn Yan and don’t check this out you are truly missing out on a great food experience.

Onion rings were good. I should have passed on the black and blue burger, gross flavor like liver. Service was kinda slow and the boy waiter seemed unfamiliar with the menu.

My husband and I came here to grab something to eat after biking on the Keuka Outlet Trail from Dresden to Penn Yan. We were hoping for breakfast but unfortunately missed «breakfast time» by just a few minutes. We caught the chef in the outside seating area and he was very nice and welcoming so we grabbed a seat and were given some menus. I ordered the BBQ Burger with a side salad and my husband ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of chili. I asked for my burger cooked medium rare but upon inspection the burger looked like an already made frozen patty (like a bubba burger) and was cooked all the way through. Don’t get me wrong, the flavor of the burger was delicious but I was just surprised to see that the burgers were thin, pre-​made patties. I didn’t try the brisket sandwich but I didn’t hear my husband complain so I guess it was good! The menu prices are great and I wish I had tried a cappucino cause their coffee station looks amazing.

Food was great, especially considering I don’t spend much time in Penn Yan. A lot of things are house-​made, like the dipping sauces. I am a huge fan of beer battered fries, and they have an option for a garlic parm sauce which was great. I had something as admittedly as pedestrian as a fried basket (they got me with the «why choose one when you can have all three?» and they are not prebattered bagged frozen stock like you might otherwise expect, housemade cocktail and dill-​packed tartar. Coleslaw that my husband had was made with a napa cabbage it seemed, so definitely lots of little twists. Waitress was nice and service accommodating for a monday night.

We have spent several evening dining at the Silverbird in Penn Yan after being told another local, downtown restaurant was the best place in town by our hotel staff. Unfortunately we took their advice the first night of or stay and patronized this «local» place named after the lake we are next too … it was glorified bar food … next opportunity we found the Silverbird … the reviews we read were from 2 years ago but the place is now under new management with a chef that is both inventive and friendly … great food! Traveling by motorcycle makes short trips from your «home base» location a pain so having the Silverbird within walking distance to our hotel was a blessing and delight … the wood fired pizza… the BBC.. the coffee … it’s all good … alot of care goes into the food we have learned after speaking to the staff and chef … great choice when in Penn Yan … thank you Silverbird staff for making or time here enjoyable… highly recommended!!!

More than just pizza! We had the Phoenix pizza and the Cold Spinach salad. Both were excellent. The pizza crust was nice and thin, and the balsamic reduction paired nicely with the goat cheese. I think the shrimp was prepared in the wood-​fired oven which was an excellent addition to our salad.

I really enjoyed this place. They have really tried to bring something cool to Penn Yan. I don’t care for the pizza but that’s because i find wood-​fired pizza over rated. The garbage plates, sandwiches, and salads were great though. Sure to go back for round 2 on this guy.

Love the buttery wood fired pizzas, good sandwiches, cold beers, and lots of room, good solid place to eat
