Love this place! Atmosphere is cool and the food is really good. Was looking for a local breakfast place with good food and I think I found it. Check this place out. Home of the giant cinnamon roll!

I hit saxs during the week when I have a rib stickin out and my belly is growling. .waitresses are always friendly and are on point to get the grub in front of your mouth. .large portions, good flavored ingredients. But not the.“let’s take granny out for brunch” type of breakfast joint. . I would say more like” workin man big breakfast, don’t need any more grease gravy till dinner type of sax joint kinda place“ But my disclaimer. .I have only been in this gravy maker during the week early… soooo. dont listen to this punk. Test run it yourself people…

Great food, huge portions AND they bread their chicken fried steak in house!!! The only thing I didn’t like was that the country potatoes weren’t brown in the outsides, oh no! I guess I’ll just have to come back and try the hash browns… Dang it! I highly recommend!

Amazing! We read through Unilocal and this place did not disappoint! Huge portions, good service, and the best food ever. Seriously everyone’s plate was so good. I wish our hotel had a refrigerator so I could have kept my leftovers. The jams on the tables were a nice touch and we will absolutely be going back there!

We are in Petaluma visiting the surrounding wine country on our anniversary. We love great breakfasts when we travel and this one didn’t disappoint! The Egg Scramble can be customized however you want it and the preserves are amazing.(Suggestion…order the English Muffin with just a little butter or it will be swimming in it.) The atmosphere was fun, just not to my taste. Food, however, was wonderful. On another note, we ate at another breakfast place in Petaluma that’s not listed on Unilocal for some reason, called Food Bar. Excellent«garden patio» atmosphere with quaint little green space right there. Fresh coffee on glass cups, fresh cream, and INCREDIBLE waffles!!! Definitely a place for breakfast!!!

What can I say about Sax that hasn’t been said already? Oh I know… OMG! This place is awesome! From the 50’s décor and work attire down to the food! Delish, delish, delish! Last Friday was my first time here, was suggested by a friend who wanted to meet for breakfast, I am so glad she suggested this place! I couldn’t make up my mind as I am a total biscuits and gravy fan but also wanted eggs and bacon so the waitress suggested a half order of the biscuits and gravy and for a bit more I was able to add 2 eggs and 2 pieces of bacon(or I could’ve had 1 bacon &1 sausage, or 2 sausages — very accommodating!). There was no wait for us to be seated as it was 7:30 in the morning and the food came out very quickly and piping hot! The coffee was the perfect temperature and was just as good as the food! Now I have to say the biscuit was huge, I mean really huge! Lumber Jacks has the same size biscuits but theirs are dry, the biscuits at Sax’s is huge, fluffy, tasty and just to die for! I think this is going to be my new breakfast go to for restaurants! I’m hooked!

Love this place! Worth the wait on the weekends, sometimes 20 min but if you get there around 9am it is not bad at all. Always leftovers with the scrambles which is great the next day. Biscuits are bigger than the plates! And hashbrowns are to die for. Come here almost once a month when we get the family together. Have yet to try lunch.

I am not a fan of American Graffiti décor /themes but the food here easily overcame the plaid floor and happy days posters. The food is pretty straight-forward American fare but satisfying and the portions are made for big men. Bonus it opens really early(6am) so a great stop for early SF trips.

So like, could it be any better? I came with a group of 6 at lunch time. 4 of us ordered breakfasts, one tri tip sando, and just ordered a fruit cup and coffee. Something for everyone! Every plate was piled with food and absolutely no complaints from anyone. 5 of us had never been here and all agreed we would be back. Let me be clear. No complaints… all cheers and props for good food and the service was on point. The American graffiti celebration was coming up and with that on our minds our attention was drawn to the décor. It’s perfect for a diner in Petaluma. A real gem actually, down to servers’ «uniforms». Uniform is a loose term here as the women were dressed in kind of sock hop regalia to match the era of the interior design. I’m a biker girl so the model bikes on the wall were a hit with me. Only one of us had ever dined here before and she frequents on the weekends for the breakfast. She loves the waffles there and says the place is packed Saturday’s and Sunday’s. It’s an odd layout inside but there are a few tables outside for outdoor dining on nice days. I could see parking being a challenge on weekdays during a rush. Park around back or in the front on the street. Be prepared to walk a block or so. Back to the food! The tri tip was huge and came with fries. Devoured by a food lover it was a hit and very filling. Tri tip was cooked to his liking. The country Benedict… holy smokes the pile of food on that plate was unreal. Again, applause not only for a large portion that he couldn’t finish, but the flavors combined for a party in the mouth. Next was eggs and bacon with a biscuit on the side. Those biscuits… WOW! The homemade jam was a great touch and went perfectly on the biscuit. Finally, two of us had the California Benedict. Delicious. I’m a Benedict lover there are a lot of textures and flavors that combine to either ruin it or make it a lovely experience. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the avocado was fresh and they didn’t skimp on it either. The sauce: hollandaise can be the ultimate deal breaker. In this case it brings the flavors together and hugs the food together for a joyous experience. Country potatoes were served with the breakfast plates with a dollop of sour cream and chives on them. I like my country style potatoes a little crispy so I might ask next time but they got the job done! And yes, next time. Because I will be a return costumer. It’s just that good! Ps my friend also tipped us to the mimosas. On the weekends they serve different flavors of mimosas and they sound delicious! Eat on!

Fantastic, friendly welcoming staff! The total diner vibe with a hardy breakfast menu. Country gravy is my THANG and they had a TON of options here… Service was so amazing. I tried what they’re known for, the chicken fried steak and it was DE-LICIOUS! My mom got the cinnamon roll, if you like sweet breakfast get this, but it’s HUGE so you’ll definitely want to share!

This place has undeniable charm and style! It is a little hidden and parking is a bit strange but well worth the effort. I have been twice for breakfast and I must say it is a hit with me. I consider myself a bit of a breakfast guru and will go anywhere for delicious, interesting, and unique breakfast dishes and Sax’s has all of those as well as the classics. The first time I went I had the chicken fried chicken breakfast. The chicken was flavorful, crunchy, and the gravy was excellent. The biscuit was about the size of a salad plate and was fluffy and tasty. YUM. I had my son with me and they were friendly for him and I felt comfortable having a 2.5 year old there as the place is so colorful and welcoming. The second time I was feeling sweet things. I ordered a cinnamon roll to share. It came warm, gooey, and even had a pat of butter on top which is how my Grandma used to serve cinnamon rolls. My friend and I were in heaven and I immediately regretted my choice to order the french toast with huckleberry cream cheese thing I would be on sweet overload. I was wrong. The french toast was succulent and the cream cheese on top was a thing of beauty. It was perfect with a couple of slices of crispy bacon to accompany. The waitresses are always friendly and upbeat. They also are not afraid to give you opinions about what to order and what’s great. I will continue to come back to Sax’s Joint and just wish I was in Petaluma more often!

Come here to eat if you are extremely hungry. Extremely hungry and you love sugar. The family and I came to Sax’s during the Butter and Egg weekend. At 8:30am, there wasn’t a wait, though the place was already vey busy. The atmosphere is intended to represent a fifties era diner, though with a ton more inspirational phrases on the walls and aluminum siding everywhere. I appreciated the intention, but overall it felt very cold. I think it was all the cold grey metal. Husband had the tri tip Benedict, which was delicious, but served on two very thick slick of French bread which did it no justice. It was like being served two large tri tip sandwiches with an egg on each sandwich. My corn beef hash was moist and flavorful, but the softball sized biscuit served with it landed like a rock in my already potato filled stomach. Following other reviews, we ordered a homemade cinnamon roll. It came slathered with a sugary frosting that makes my teeth hurt a little to think about it now. I just don’t know what activities you’d be planning to participate in to eat this much food first thing in the morning. I couldn’t finish and still needed an extra cup of coffee to keep from passing out in a food coma after breakfast.

Wow! The food is really good. I ordered an egg scrambler with spinach Swiss cheese mushrooms and ham. They used a ham steak with big chunks lots of fresh spinach and fresh mushrooms. One of the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. My wife got the eggs Benedict which she loved! The person serving us was very very friendly with a big big smile. Price was fine and the wait was minimal about 15 minutes around noon on Sunday. It’s a 50s theme type diner with The staff dressing accordingly. They serve mimosas and bloody Mary’s FYI. Enjoy.

One of my favorite breakfast/brunch places in town. Love the black/white/pink retro décor with black and white photos on the wall, friendly waitresses and yummy food! A sip of their fresh OJ or mimosa and I’m in brunch paradise

The biscuits here are amazinnggggggg. Biscuits for all! Now that that’s out of the way… how is Sax’s Joint? Overall, a great dinner, good experience, great menu, good ambiance, and good service. Great breakfast/brunch stop if you’re around or passing through, and the biscuits are to die for. Just a note, expect a dinosaur sized biscuit compared to the Pillsbury stuff most of us get. Next time I’m trying the chicken and waffles!

Wow yum seriously yum. If you’re looking for the ultimate breakfast and diner experience(lunch too) this IS the joint! Nursing a serious hangover I popped in today for some greasy goodness… but that’s not what I got! Instead I had a mushroom onion scramble that could’ve been made by a serious chef… meaty perfectly cooked mushrooms… so rarely do you find an egg dish cooked so expertly where the actual flavors are intact! Just the right amount of cheddar and onions. Mmmm. The next delight – homemade gigantic biscuits, served w jam they make in house. These ladies are doing it right… the place was hopping, the service attentive and friendly, even a conversation between a patron and the chef talking loudly over my shoulder was endearing. I left w both biscuits and jam to take home to the fam. You will be sooooo glad you visited this spot!

Perfect score all around for Sax’s. Nostalgic 50’s diner atmosphere, fantastic customer service, and most importantly: DELICIOUSHOMEMADEFOOD! Every table has it’s own homemade jam. We tried the strawberry jam which was super sweet and chunky, and also the peach-habanero jam which boasted the perfect yin and yang of heat and sweet. For the first time in our six-years together my wife witnessed me opting for French toast over something savory. I just had to. The description of house-made sourdough French bread battered and fried, and then topped with house-made mulberry cream cheese with a side of bacon was too good to ignore… My instincts served correct as this was easily the best French toast I have ever had. Crunchy, chewy, sweet, savory, it had it all. Also the coffee was local and good… I’ve actually left restaurants who served Folgers our Costco coffee. Local coffee is a MUST.

Cute 50’s themed diner. I love themed diners and this place did do a good job with the checkered floor, round, red bar stools, Elvis photos everywhere etc. Way to go on the décor! The diner itself is quite small and has a small little step to get into the restaurant. I say you can forget about it if you have a stroller, which is what we did. We left the stroller outside. Service here was ok, not super fast nor attentive which is what I have come to expect from diners. The coffee was surprisingly decent, and food portions are HUGE. I ordered the country benny because the fact that it is on a biscuit, sold me. The biscuit was very big, doughy, and moist– delicious! The original country benny comes with sausage as the meat, but if you’ve read my other bfst reviews, I’m a ham girl. They kindly swapped out my sausage for ham, no extra charge, and it was delicious! The egg was perfectly poached, and the gravy on top was great. The hashbrowns on the side was a tad small, but the benny itself was so big, it didn’t matter haha My husband’s trip tip benny on sourdough also deserves an A+. $ 12 for each dish so it’s not cheap, but portion and taste, I think it’s not bad at all.
