Their hot chocolate is to die for!!! The food is yummy, but I wish their menu had more variety. I’ve eaten here too many times and am getting a little bored with the same fare. The atmosphere is great!

«Why do I not frequent here more often?» — I immediately asked myself after enjoying a beautiful Saturday on the patio. The décor is just OMG, flawless, unique, pristine, quaint, charming, picturesque I could on with adjectives. I squabbled with myself weather to sit inside regardless of the lovely weather just so I can wallow in the beauty of the décor and pretend I live here. Even the dishware is adorable! And the coasters! Now to the food — I’ve tried some of their tacos. They are good but I felt they were filled with more slaw than meat. It sort of overwhelmed the taco. However, the comely presentation on food and drinks makes up for it all! Is that shallow of me? I’m allowing appearance to compensate for the food? Having said that, the drinks are creative, unique and fresh. The chips are a light, crisp white corn accompanied with a warm citrusy salsa. The guacamole was totally worth all of $ 8. If you like spicy margaritas you must try the MACHETE. The watermelon is refreshing and the habanero tequila kick makes it a match made in heaven! I was also fond of the Smoked Pineapple but went back to the Machete for more. My ONLY request to make the patio more perfect other than having a spitting view of the fountain, would be to have the tree that accompanies inside the patio to be covered in lights. All year round. Not just for Christmas. Oh and I can’t forget, our server James was awesome, on top of things, never let our drinks sit empty and had a sweet face. I WILLBEBACKFORLAMACHETE!

This place is just too cute. The inside is warm and unique, all the tables and chairs match but are different. Lots of candles and wood work, nice huge fireplace going with what would be an awesome date table right in front. Although it’s a bit spendy, the food and drinks were awesome. Love the little Legacy area!

We finally tried this place for my wife’s birthday brunch and it lived up to the nice reviews. I really enjoyed the interior decoration the moment we stepped inside. Think chic-cowboy-Mexican? We were seated in the back room which reminded me of a subway station stop, in a good way. We ordered the Mimosa tray with fresh fruit juice. This was pretty fun but avoid the watermelon juice unless you like it, or so I’m told. Unlike other Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurants you have to order and pay for chips and salsa. It wasn’t a problem with us since the salsa, queso, and guac we ordered were very good. My meal with was the steak and eggs and it was ok thanks to the seasoning and salsa. I tried one of my wife’s pork breakfast tacos and the meat was on the dry side. The waiter was prompt and very nice and they were very accommodating to our 2 children. We’ll try dinner next time to really experience the food.

Around 7:30PM on a Wednesday, the wait was about 30 minutes for a table, but the bar was open, so we sat there. The interior was nice and cozy with upbeat Latin music. It was loud inside, so talking was a challenge, but the cocktails we tried were enjoyable– Dia de Muertos had a great flavor, just intense. I would get it again. The food(shrimp cocktail) was flavorful and had a great presentation — but the waiter forgot the Brussels Sprout Shred.(It was great). They didn’t have a printed dessert menu — but at least the waiter knew. We got the hot chocolate(very sweet) and churros(warm and soft — not crunchy) and a cinco leches to go. The whipped cream that came with both was the best.

The food is phenomenal. Valet works off of tips. Reservations are accepted. Drinks are strong, yet very pricey. You can never go wrong with their street tacos. There is a gorgeous waiting area where the tables hang on ropes from the ceiling and you can mingle while you wait for your table. They will even take your drink order so you can get the party started. It’s a beautiful restaurant that gets bigger as you keep walking. There’s a great party room in the back and plenty of intimate seating. Great place to start your weekend! –xoxo p. s. sub elote for the slaw!

I celebrated my birthday here on December 19, 2015, and as always, it was an incredible experience! From the reservation process to the food/cocktails to the service to the atmosphere, this is by far my favorite Mexican food restaurant in DFW area! Brannan Howell helped me with my reservations and he went above and beyond to ensure everything went smooth for my party of 15. I would recommend this hot spot to anyone and management like Brannan are the reason people always come back! Thank you to the Mexican Sugar staff for making my birthday special! My Best– Pamela

Was here last night for HH and dinner. Our service was fantastic and the server knew his stuff. HH has $ 2 off off cocktails, so we tried some great margaritas,(but they were still 9.00 on HH). The palonita? was awesome, but the machete one I had was just ok. Love the sourness of the first one. All the drinks are nicely done with garnishes. We had a table in the middle of the restaurant at one of the booths(we were a table of 4) and the atmosphere was great. Nice fixtures, décor and very happening on Friday night at 6:15pm. I had made a reservation which was smart, because not even before we got our food, the waiting area was full of people. We ordered the queso blanco to start. SOGOOD. Everyone at the table thought it was a winner. Came with a huge bowl of chips that they kindly replaced when we had devoured them! Hubby had the pork chop, said he was super surprised at how much he liked it. He devoured it, and thought it was excellent. It was recommended by the waiter — and even as another server came to clear the plates, he commented that the pork chop is his fave thing on the menu. I had the grilled romaine salad which I also thought was excellent. Could have been grilled slightly longer, but toppings were plentiful, steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare and I was definitely satiated. We also had the avocado chocolate cake. If you love cinnamon and meringue, you will love this… however, I didn’t. I didn’t personally enjoy the soft velvety cake being interrupted by crunchy meringue. However, I did think the texture of the cake was perfect even though I didn’t care for the filling. It’s served cold. Ended the meal with a bottle of Kunde cab. We’ve had Kunde wine extensively in Sonoma and I have to say, this was not a great selection. It wasn’t one of their better bottles and it was served far too cold. Couldn’t taste much until it warmed up. I would suggest they move their reds to a more moderate temperature. Overall, it was a great night out. It can be quite loud toward the front of the restaurant, so if you want to hear each other talk, sit near the middle or in the large back room. On a Friday night, I wouldn’t suggest taking kids here, lots of traffic and noise. Great first experience Mexican Sugar — we will be back!

Had enchiladas Mesquite. Meat flavor off the charts. As it got hotter the falvors went away a bit but all food was very good. Have to come back

Fancy drinks. Loved the Serrano pepper-infused watermelon margarita(it’s not the Serrano ham, I later found out lol). Chic Mexican restaurant-slash-bar that tries to be hip, cool, and casual, with all the flapping of the haute cuisine brow to bring in the dressed-up crowd, and trying to entice them to some«global» offerings that aren’t really representative of the actual global things, including some that supposedly span the South American continent. Example in case: the brisket arepas tasted much more like gorditas than arepas. Too corny, prepared with fillings on top, and all at the wrong texture. Definitely not an arepa in any way. Good price though, 4 for $ 9. Located in beautiful Legacy at Plano, it almost feels like it’s a city even though it’s far out in the suburbs.

I heard very good things about Mexican Sugar that set it up for success. From its décor to its champagne, I’ve anticipated coming here for weeks! This Sunday I was able to drive up here and was disappointed with reality. Love the ambience!(4⁄5) The hostesses were quick and friendly even with the whole place bustling with customers. Mexican sugar is quite large. It extends past the create your own champagne bar into an open den type room. I think it could be better used as a bar. There are a few lounge chair and tables around the place as well. Our waitress…(3⁄5) She seemed like she really didn’t want to serve us for some reason and it showed. She did the job and explained after our questions, but I wouldn’t want her again. She asked the same question two times at the beginning and didn’t say thank you at the end, which I find strange as a server. Create your own champagne– love it!(5⁄5) there were four flavours. They bring you half a glass of champagne, and you fill it up with any mixture of choice of flavour! There’s also some mint leaves you can use, along with watermelon chunks that may complement your drink better. Most importantly, the food. I ordered enchiladas.(1/5)The sides were good, but the largest flaw of this experience was that my enchiladas were LUKEWARMTOCOLD. I tasted each enchilada– there were 3. By the time I got to the third one, heat seemed to escape it completely. My last Mexican cuisine experience involved a long microwaved meal and plate to make sure it’s hot. Though its not my preferred style of food, at least it’s hot. It was cold that day so it bugged me! I didn’t bother to tell the waitress because she had disappeared for a while.

Great restaurant and experience. Servers know the menu well and there is always a tequila expert around to help you thru the tequila book. They push several tequilas and say it’s that night’s special but for those that go there often, we know better. Give the De Leon a try! Pork chop is a must as is the red snapper fillet. Give the leche de Tigre a try as an appetizer or the pardon peppers(shishito peppers more or less).

I have been to Mexican Sugar a few times and it’s always been a great experience. Even though it’s a really popular restaurant we have never had to wait. Maybe we just have good timing. The food has always been REALLY good and the servers are usually pretty knowledgable and nice. They also have valet, which is nice. Anyone who goes to the Shops at Legacy often knows that it’s really hard to find parking sometimes. I have needed to valet numerous times at both ends of the Shops because it gets so busy. They have awesome brunch too so definitely try it out on the weekends!

I must say that I LOVE Mexican Sugar! It is one of my favorite places for date night, girls night, basically any night. The food is fabulous, the atmosphere is really elegant, and the service is almost always great.(I’ve had 1 mishap with a waiter, who spilled water all over me and brought a towel to wipe down the table, but nothing for me to dry myself. He didn’t even offer to comp my drink or anything. Luckily I love this place and I’ll say that was 1 unlucky time because I’ve been here countless times and never experienced anything like that any other time.) My favorite food item here is the grilled romaine salad. Amazing! But the reason I keep coming back are their drinks! I love the hibuscus margarita and machete. Now the reason for the star deduction is… they no longer make my favorite drink!!! Sure that may not seem like a reason to deduct a star, but I loved their paloma!!! It was served in a glass with rimmed in black salt with a grapefruit, orange, and lime garnish. Oh the memories. Anyway, I digress. Run to Mexican Sugar, order food, and definitely get a drink!

I think the gorgeous ambiance is what attracts a lot of people to come here. The food wasn’t all that bad but there was nothing unique about it. Plus the cuisine offered is more of a Latin American cuisine instead of just Mexican, despite the name of the place. The drinks is what made me more likely to come here again. I chose the caipirinha as a drink, and I couldn’t remember what I had for dinner as the food was nothing unique about it. I’ll probably come back for happy hour next time.

This place is huge and beautifully decorated. Great for parties or a nice night out. Lots of awesome veggie and gluten free options here! I haven’t tried them all, but had the plantains(sans cheese) and lettuce veggie ceviche wraps(sans crème), and they were all great! You will need to add some salsa to these, since without the dairy there is barely any salt added, but otherwise very colorful and flavorful dishes. The broccoli slaw that came with the wraps was divine. The peppers and side dishes sound good too. I loved having several healthy options; I’ll definitely be back to try the drinks and guacamole!

Even on a crowded Saturday night our waiter Craig was so accommodating and made our dinner flow flawlessly. Being the only gluten free dairy free vegetarian at the table… most times even a slow restaurant messes up my order and almost always has to fix it. I was so surprised when my food came out along with everyone’s at the table without any glitches and everything came out exactly how I ordered it. Even when it came to dessert, our waiter went the extra mile to make sure to get me a platter of fruit so I didn’t feel left out when the rest our party enjoyed the tres Leches cake(which was a hit). Great atmosphere and great food. Fun place all around.

Amazing food, service, and restaurant scene. They distinguish themselves from other Mexican restaurants in that they try to provide healthier food that are always prepared fresh. We were there for Saturday brunch, which featured a pretty cool mimosa bar. For $ 5.00 you get a glass of champagne that you can dress with either grapefruit, orange, watermelon, or guava juice. There were also diced apples and a couple of other fruits I can’t remember. I had one with the guava juice with one cherry infused brandy. It was a hit with many people there, but it didn’t do anything for me. I personally thought it was bitter. Now, I had read so many great reviews about their cocktails so of course, I had to order one — the Villa Rita. It was pretty good, a little on the sweet side for me. However, it did have a kick. That was a plus. I’m not a fan of their salsa. I like my salsa cold and ours was served warm. We ordered the ceviche for an appetizer, which was also good. It’s supposed to have both shrimp and snapper and lots of pickled red onions. I couldn’t make find any snapper in our ceviche, but that’s okay. It tasted great with the complimentary tortilla chips. For my main course, I ordered the snapper which was pan roasted and came with hearts of palm citrus-fennel salad, pasilla-sherry emulsion. OMG. I cleaned my entire plate. The flavors were so fresh and tasty. It kept me going at it without feeling guilty for eating so much. My only complaint was that my snapper was not fresh. The texture was mushy instead of flaky. I did mention this to Karen, our server, when asked how was the food. I told her it was okay, the flavors of the entire dish made up for the texture of the fish. Not too long after, the manager comes and apologizes for the fish and said that they do not use frozen fish. Everything they cook is fresh. In fact, they have a very small freezer and that is where they keep their plates to serve desserts and ice. He also volunteered to take me to the back. Lol. I told him I believed him. Apparently, something had happened to the fish before it made it to Mexican Sugar and he had no control over that. I’m fine with that. In short, my experience was excellent. I will definitely return soon to try the whole snapper, which is available on their dinner menu.

Among the artificial suburban-like sterile glam urban set of the shops at legacy with its soundtrack piped sprawling outdoor patios under tree shaded streets to perhaps simulate Greenwich village, with dolled middle aged blondes in satin blue prom dresses singing karaōke to an empty room at blue martini, Mexican Sugar manages to feel corporate yet unique. Waitress was a tired and pretty 20 year old salesman friendly and knowledgable but all business. Seating wasn’t particularly comfortable as it was full even on a Wednesday at 9pm. The smoky and spicy Serrano infused watermelon margarita was fabulous, tasting almost like mescal. We ordered the brisket arepas, which to my critical Venezuelan friend weren’t completely authentic, but at $ 9 for 4 I found them tasty and filling, if cold. We noticed how the menu had a few of non Mexican items on the menu, like Peruvian lobster milk $ 17. The menu is also studded with affordable tacos so you can get out without buying the $ 28 entrees. 3 drinks and an appetizer — $ 40 before tip. Summary This sceney place doesn’t feel completely generic, but the well dressed card board cut out yuppy patrons might. Welcome to Plano

The 1st time I visited Mexican Sugar it was for my birthday back in November. I think I had the enchiladas *shrugs*. So that shows you how memorable my meals was at that time. However, my sister loved her food and has returned on several occasions. Because she is the 1st born and I personally didn’t feel like fighting with her. She decided we should go to Mexican Sugar for Father’s Day. My dad loves Mexican food, but I wasn’t sure if he love this type of Mexican food. When we arrived the hostess immediately greeted us and I stated we had reservations. She told us to have a seat while they prepared our table. I wasn’t too annoyed by this because it took all of 5 mins. We were seated and our server came about 2 mins later. Let me spend some time on my server. I can’t even remember his name. Actually, I don’t remember him telling us his name. I must say he wasn’t very attentive to our table. He made a point to welcome and wish the other families a Happy Father’s Day but not ours. My dad who is as attentive as me. He also recognized this as well. Every time I looked up he was schmoozing with the other tables. But I’m having to wave you down to service my table. I was starting to feel some type of way. I’ll just leave it at that. You draw your own conclusion. On to the food… normally I would sample everyone’s food. But this time I opted to eat mine only. For my appetizer, I had the elote and for whatever reason it was very runny. The flavor was good but it was very wet/juicy and not in a good way. I also had the queso and it was very tasty. We shared the queso and it went quickly. For my meal, I had the breakfast burger. That is not the name of it, but it’s on the brunch menu if you’re looking for it. It was okay. Actually, the bacon was delicious. If I could have had just the egg and bacon I would have been fine. Lastly, we shared the Chocolate Avocado Cake. It received mix reviews from the table. It ranged from not impressed, good and I can make this. Lol! I actually liked it; however my stomach did not. :-/Yeah not good. SMH. Back to the server. I had to wave him down again to pay. At one point, as he was walking towards us. He decided to strike up a convo with another customer. Look a-hole we’re trying to wrap this up. Oh and after we paid the tab with a tip he didn’t deserve(He can thank my dad. He has a soft spot for servers. Even piss poor ones.) We finally got a Happy Father’s Day. F*** your well wishes at this point. Overall my visit was filled with hits and misses. The review deserves a 1.5 but since that’s not an option. 2 star review it is only because I liked some items. My sister can keep coming but I will not.
