I tried out this place on a Thursday evening. Not busy, walked right up to the counter. I asked the employee what was good since it was my first time there. He said he was new and didn’t know much. He was right. When I asked if they had a «frequent flyer» program, he said he didn’t know. I asked what the soup of the day was and he pointed to a sign and told me to look over there. Never once did he offer to get someone who might actually be able to answer questions of an interested customer. Sad, sad. So, I ordered the pimento cheese sandwich and potato soup. The pimento cheese had a really good flavor, but it was greasy. Likewise, the soup was disappointing. It tasted like it came from a box, like it had been rehydrated. I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn’t meet my expectations. By hiring some folks who really want to be there and who truly want to help customers, then training them well, they could improve. I may go back and try different foods to give them another shot, mainly because I really liked the bread and butter pickles they had. Lol!

Great food, good service although they are a little heavy on the salad dressing. I recommend the Chicken caesar salad, and always get a drink, the cups are great to refill the rest of the day!

Came to Newk’s with a group of coworkers and I was impressed. It is the type of place that if you don’t live around it, you wish you had in your own neighborhood. Lots of fresh selections of soups, salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. I am always a bit nervous to order a Shrimp Po-Boy from a non-cajun place, but thy did it justice, and they used shrimp that were not fried… amazing! My 5 Cheese Mac-N-Cheese was ok, but a lot more bland than I anticipated and I am not sure was worth the extra I paid to make it my side. I should have stuck with some of the sides that came with the sandwich without an up-charge and I would have been a bit happier. The portions were generous and everyone’s food looked great. There are a lot of things on their menu I would like to try so I will definitely be back!

Really enjoyed the chicken breast sandwich. It was juicy and the bread was toasted just right. The portion isn’t huge, but it was enough to fill me up. Also, there are plenty of other menu items for you to explore!

Tried Newk’s for the first time today. Me and my family got a couple of sandwiches and split a small pizza just to try it. The sandwich I had was«The Royal». It’s a very good sandwich. The freshness is what stood out to me. It wasn’t the best sandwich I ever had, but it was certainly worth the money. Not very expensive at six dollars and change for the size and quality you get. The standout however, was the deluxe pizza. The crust on that was especially delicious. The ingredients were fresh, and a great touch is that the pizza had whole kalamata olives on it, instead of sliced. It was a burst of saltiness that took the pizza to the next level. The pizza was really great and what we’ll be coming back for. They serve seafood on the pizza, but I didn’t try it.(It’s a little pricey, as adding shrimp or salmon to the pizza costs an additional $ 6.50 a piece. I mean, that was the cost of my entire sandwich.) Still, I’m going to try it in the future. All in all, it was good. I would still recommend the sandwiches at Which Wich over these, but the Pizza is really, really great.

Love the atmosphere. Customer service was good. My salad was huge. I love the condiment station. The free breadsticks are so good.

We catered here for a real estate meeting and I thought it was really good — very fresh food and the prices weren’t too bad — comparable to a Corner Bakery/Paradise Café, but I would say tastier food. I got the shrimp and avocado salad and then we got a ton of rice crispy bars and brownies. The shrimp and avo salad was on a bed of arugula and it was very yummy! They weren’t stingy on the shrimp, either, which was nice. The rice crispy bars and brownies were pretty plain jane — giant portions but tasted pretty dry — especially the brownie… it was more like a dry cake bar. The meeting ran 5 hours so I ended up eating the whole darn thing but would’ve enjoyed more of a fudgy brownie.

So I stopped in on my lunch today to try Newk’s for the first time. I’m not a particularly picky person, nor am I demanding. Newk’s was very middle of the road mediocre. I ordered Newk’s favorite salad. Chicken, cranberries, Gorgonzola… A pretty delicious mix overall. It’s about eight dollars, which isn’t world ending for a salad. My wait at the restaurant was no more than five minutes, which is always a plus. However, the guy who took my order refused to talk to me. I don’t think it’s too much for someone to tell you how much your change is instead of looking anywhere but at you. The guy who brought out my order was actually worse! When I thanked him for my food, he looked at me like I had two heads and said«yeah, whatever.» Sorry you hate your job, but please don’t take it out on me. The salad was actually good, so it keeps points for that. The chicken was thin and the grapes were delicious, and I loved the dressing. Thank goodness it was on the side, because there was TOOMUCH, So overall, not bad. I would eat the food again, but I’m definitely sending someone else to get it.

I absolutely love this place! Oh my god they have the best strawberry cake on the planet. I try to drop in here at least once a week I usually get a simple have salad and have pesto chicken salad sandwich of course with strawberry cake. The food is always fresh the service is fantastic little on the pricey side. You can get half of a salad and half of a suit or half of a salad and half of a sandwich for under ten bucks. You can always call in your order over the phone but give this place a try you won’t be disappointed

I’ve been to this Plano location a half dozen times because it’s an alternative to other fast food places, however each experience varied. It’s a walk up and order, get a number, your own drinks and seat yourself kind of place. And that’s fine. The food comes out quite quickly too. That’s also a good thing. The problem with this place is with the quality of the food. The pizzas are either really good or really bad. The salads contain crisp greens and sometimes wilted long dead weed-like leaves.(We sat in a booth on one occasion where I watched a food prep person carrying a big bowl of greens with one hand while he dug in a trash receptacle with the other. That put me off for the rest of the meal. I wrote to management but they never responded so I decided to include that incident here.) I only tried one sandwich and it was so dry I never wanted or had another. Same goes for the over-priced cold piece of cake ordered. In summary, I like the concept of the restaurant but it appears to lack experienced management, consistently fresh ingredients and talent in the kitchen.

Pretty decent. One of my friends billed the place as «They have EVERYTHING you can think of! It’s like a crazy place where you can get all sorts of stuff» but wasn’t specific. So I was expecting… well everything lol. Instead it’s just a sandwich & pizza shop with some soups and mac n cheese. Can’t blame Newks, so not part of the review, but still kind of a deflation(no longer taking her advice… lol) It still is pretty dang good. I got the spicy shrimp pizza, it was very unique and different. I’ve never had shrimp on a pizza… it was a winning combo. Bell peppers were good and had just the right amount of kick. My fiancée got a grilled chicken sandwich and Caesar salad, she remarked that the salad had too much dressing but it was otherwise good. Place is a little confusing… if you walk in the side door, you’re presented with a very small takeout menu, the eat-in menu & cashier is on the other side of the store. I even almost went out the door that goes to the patio(with no way out) when trying to make my exit. Overall, a nice place to visit.

2 stars at best. Ordered for delivery and it was horrible! Just got the Mediterranean and the chicken was bone dry and no sauce. The kids cheese pizza was cooked to a crisp that the crust was a cracker. My son couldn’t bite into it. Will never order here again!

As a follow-up, contacted newks through their website. Follow up was good from their college station contact(no Plano contact on Newks website). Said he’d pass along to appropriate folks at Plano since that wasn’t his region. I’ve heard nothing since. I’d stay away unless you like rare chicken. I plan to send this pic to the health dept

This is the first instance where I feel like Unilocal has lied to me. While most of the reviews for this place have higher ratings, my experience wasn’t anywhere close. The service: the employees were nice, but standard eat-in workers. They didn’t go out of their way to explain the menu, or ask how we were doing, but they weren’t rude, so that gets a star. The décor: I actually like the way this place is decorated. Additional star. The food: this is where I was severely underwhelmed. The food subtracts from the previous stars listed. I ordered a steak sandwich with a side of the four cheese Mac. The sandwich seriously lacked flavor, and it was comparable to eating a cardboard box for dinner. The steak was overly chewy, and the bread was hard and seemed stale. The Mac and cheese was over cooked(noodles) and mushy/soggy. Also lacking flavor. I’m being honest when I say that I’ve had easy mac that’s beat this stuff in the flavor department. Not sure what the hype is about. My husband had shrimp po’boy with a side Caesar. He was also underwhelmed. He said the salad was okay, but your standard Caesar, nothing special. He was pretty excited about the shrimp po’boy, but after a few bites, said he wasn’t impressed. At $ 30 for two meals with two drinks, this place is overpriced for the quality of food you get. Both husband and I agreed that we would have been better off getting a foot long at subway next door, or heading across the street to eatzi’s for the money we spent. We won’t be back. Maybe this place was having and«off day», but regardless I left without being satisfied. In addition(and maybe this is TMI), a few hours after eating here, I felt like total crap. My stomach was NOT happy, and typically I have a stomach of steel.

Came here for lunch on 8÷4÷15 with a friend. Service was HORRIBLE. People were waiting 45 minutes for a sandwich! I ordered margherita pizza and my friend ordered a ham and cheese sandwich. My pizza came out very quickly. 35 minutes later, my friend was still waiting for her sandwich! She had to go to the counter TWICE to get some help. Your kitchen area looks severely understaffed. I will probably not be returning.

I love love loveeeeee NEWK’S!!! It was one of my favorite sandwich places to go back home in Florida and I’m so glad there’s one kind of close to where I live. Wish they had more branches! My favorite is the Italian. The perfect combo of flavors and the right amount of meat. Their bread is always on point too. Not too hard or soft. Loaded potato soup is another fave! Always check their soup schedules because they vary every day. Condiment bar has everything ya need and their desserts doesn’t disappoint either! Pizzas are fab and salads are fresh and are portioned generously.

«A-OK» is a good description of our experience and I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. The food was fine but nothing remarkable. The steak sandwich tasted more like a roast cut of meat than a petite sirloin grilled steak, and the horseradish sauce was barely present. Overall, just not a ton of flavor happening. DH had the Italian sandwich which he thought was also good but the pickled spread on it was very salty. We both ordered a side of fresh fruit which was very small(noticeably smaller than Jason’s Deli), and many pieces in both of ours had brown spots or were not ripe enough yet so they were hard. Ehh. The ordering process was quick and simply. Service was friendly and pleasant but a little slow today as they were pretty crowded. This place was jam-packed with loud kiddos at lunch time today(which I get there is nothing they can do about, but this may not be a great place for a quiet lunch on the weekends, in case that’s what you’re looking for). I noticed quite a bit of food on the floor, a very messy soda fountain area, etc. I’m not sure if they were short-staffed today or just overwhelmed at the time, but it’s just something that impacted my overall impression and seemed worth mentioning. I think prices here are very fair for what you get. We would definitely be willing to check this place out again, maybe at an off-peak time to avoid the crowds and the noise. Today may have just been an «off» day. Overall, I think it’s worth a try if you’re in the area and craving a soup or sandwich.

I was in the area and randomly drove by this place. I walked in, and I was already impressed. It was pretty big inside with ample seating. You order at the front, and then they make it for you. They offer sandwiches, salads, pizzas, soups and much more. You can also order half specials if you want variety. I ordered the chicken cobb salad to go, and I saw a review about the mac and cheese. I HAD to sample it of course, so I ordered a side of it. It was AMAZING! The salad is huge by the way. They also have pre-made meals that you can take to go. I’ll definitely come back when I’m in the area.

PROS– The place is super clean, bright and plenty of room. They are great for groups, as the tables can be pushed together to accommodate your group size. Kitchen is separated by a window, therefore for you are able to see the food, as its be prepared and the staff preparing those items. It has a nice round condiment bar where you can pick up bread sticks, croutons, parmesan cheese, pickled jalapenos and my favorite spicy pickled pickles. CONS — I arrived around 1:45pm, which was not crowded. As I proceeded to the counter, I had to wait a minute or two for the two cashiers to finish their conversation before I was acknowledged. I was not greeted with a hello or welcome or is this your first time in? They get a zero star for hospitality. Food came out quick, photo attached. As I’m eating, I see one cashier handling money and rolling silverware without proper sanitation, the cross contamination from money to silverware is absolutely discussing. If you choose to come here, eat with your hands.

Ate here recently with my family. I had the Pesto grilled chicken sandwich and for my side I substituted Caesar salad for additional $ 2.50. The side salad portion was good and worth extra $ but was drowned in dressing so next time I’ll ask for the dressing on the side. The kids had pizza and it came out piping hot so we had to hoard it until it cooled enough for them to eat. Other table selections included: Cobb salad– also a hearty portion and also drowned in dressing Mac and cheese for kids– also came out piping hot so we had to protect the kids until it cooled a bit There were three sandwich selections at our table– I don’t remember the choices but everyone approved of their sandwiches and all agreed we’d return again. They have a nice range of side selections– chips, cole slaw, fruit cup, or if you don’t like any of those you can substitute a side salad for an additional $ 2.50. A nice feature: the drink cups are plastic and are take-home keepers. There is a little bar of pickles, cheese, jalapeños and croutons to add to your sandwich/salad/pizza. Drink selections include lemonade and tea with options made with Splenda along with the standard soft drinks and water. Atmosphere: casual sandwich place Bottom line: approved!
