Went here on a whim to see what it was all about. My husband and I loved the place. Great atmosphere and truly a beautiful restaurant. Will absolutely be back!

Really not that good. We went with friends who picked it because it is supposed to be one of the top 10 restaurants in Nassau County. If that is the case Nassau is in trouble. The clam chowder was luke warm and pretty bland. The onion soup was very sweet. The onion rings were drenched in salt. The Jameson short ribs were bad. I honestly think the ribs were cooked in a beef stock and then the gravy was poured on top. Not a hint of Jameson anywhere to be found. The pasta in the special was over cooked. The hamburger looked tough. My friend was cutting it in to pieces with a knife and fork. The only dish that was any good was the tiger shrimp linguini but they did not look like tiger shrimp. I asked to taste one of the wines they were serving by the glass. Not a problem but the glass was fresh out of the dishwasher and still hot, not warm, but hot. It was clean though. Atmosphere was OK and the service was OK also. Need to look for somewhere else to go next time.

I’ve always loved this place and particularly Chef Nicole’s creations. A couple of weeks before New Years I made reservations for my wife and I for New Year’s Eve. The person I spoke with said they were doing 2 seatings — a 6:30 and a 9 or 9:30(don’t recall). I made a rez for the 6:30 seating. Got a weird callback to confirm my reservation, just 5 minutes after made my call. Got there on New Years Eve at 6:30. Was told I didn’t have a reservation, until they found me on the book for New Years Night. Was also told they WERENT doing prescribed seatings. There were 3 front of the house people all pouring over the reservation schedule at the same time. They told me they would try and get me something in the dining room, but after 20 minutes and no apparent progress, my wife and I decided to leave. All the staff were pleasant and cordial but they seemed overwhelmed. I will always come back so long as Chef Nicole is in the kitchen, but I will probably avoid this place on special occasions.

Excellent atmosphere — a bit noisy, but nothing out of the ordinary for being seated next to a bar. Went with my family, so we had a variety of dishes. Absolutely loved the crab & artichoke dip — flavorful but not overpowering. My dish, the Crab crusted salmon, was excellently cooked — neither tough nor dry as overlooked salmon can be. It paired wonderfully with the lemon risotto, and I loved the crispy asparagus. The short ribs were tasty and tender, but the sauce itself, while good, overpowered the meat itself a bit. The sides were thankfully fairly neutral, else the bold flavors may have been simply too much. While I didn’t try the burger, the one that was ordered to the table wasn’t a hit. The roll was dry, the meat itself overcooked and dry despite being medium rare — possibly on too high of a heat, so while the inside was pink, the majority was reported to be a bit tough and bland.

Went twice this week… and both times the rib eye has been on point. Small plates are great too. mac and cheese and the wrapped sausage delish! One thing is bread should come out warm… felt like it was in the refrigerator. Otherwise, service is good, ambiance is warm and inviting. Nice addition to the neighborhood. Definitely returning.

First time and will be back. Yummy french onion soup, great burger(I suspect the bun was slathered with butter) and even a really good cup of coffee. Only dropped a star due to close tables and noise level.

Ah yes! Love this place! To start off, it has a really comfortable ambience. Well, then the food, is amazing! My b/f and I have tried almost everything on the menu. We always have one of the salads to start with. They are delicious. Whether we have a «special,» food from the pub menu, or from the regular menu, we just are never disappointed. The braised short-ribs are a real treat for me. The bar is such a nice place to sit, with terrific barkeeps, and friendly chatter. I love forward to visiting, weekly!

This is it people; if you are a LB local you have to hit this delicious bar up when you can. The staff was great and the food was delicious. GF had fresh fish sticks with almost unbelievably familiar fries which brought a smile to my face. I had a pizza with no cheese due to my vegan priority in life; it was amazing! The manager assisted us three times and we let taken care off; thank you! This is a must for a local night!

Great food and service! I have eaten here many times and have always had a great meal and an even better experience. The décor makes it very warm and inviting and the staff is very attentive. The chef does a great job with the specials menu, I usually always order off that to try something new and I am never disappointed! The beer on tap constantly changes based on season and they have a great drink menu. Would highly recommend this place!

Excellent! I love Point Lookout and have passed the restaurant too many times wondering, not knowing… This past Saturday night, I finally went in and sat with my boyfriend for dinner. The bar and restaurant are beautiful. My Cosmo to start was made perfectly. We sat in the dining room for dinner. It is lovely. The waiter staff was very good, courteous and efficient. We had appetizers from the regular menu and from the specials. I had a Ribeye for dinner and my boyfriend had the soft shell crab. Both were delicious! I will definitely be back to enjoy the restaurant again and highly recommend it to all.

Went on a limb to this place. I am glad I went. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Place was packed but I sat at the bar and ordered a French Onion Soup which was delicious but the food that really took me over the top was the Cowboy Ribeye. I put it ahead of all the Steak Houses I have eaten in all over the place. They have a full selection of beer and liquor. I will come here again and I will recommend to all my friends. The prices are very reasonable and like I said the food is off the hook. On top of it all the Manager is awesome and made my Birthday a very enjoyable one. They are open 7 days a week for dinner. Reservations are required but walk ins are welcomed.

I love that the 2 rooms offer different settings depending what you are in the mood for. Staff is always friendly and no attitude is served when you make a special request. They even offered to make me a gluten free onion soup if I bring my own bread! The food Is always wonderful. 5 th star would be for a bigger selection.

Another amazing experience at Heneghans tonight. If you are in Merrick RVC or Long Beach make the 15 ride to see Jack and Karen who run a quality establishment. Super food friendly service from a local family owned business. Clams and pasta dishes were spot on tonight.

Great tavern right on the Long Island shore. Food is tasty, service is top notch and beer selection is great. Also tons of weekly events, like trivia, and specials that make this bar a great stop when in this area of Long Island.

Once again Valentine’s Day rolls around and we need to find a place that is kid friendly and that we want to go. This year we happen to be watching Restaurant Hunter on Fios one an caught the episode featuring Heneghans in Point Lookout. Really what a fine, the customer service and food quality was amazing. We went because we love American(New) food and really wanted to try out items on their menu. We were a little dishearten to find out the they were only featuring a specials only for Valentines(would have appreciated a heads up during the reservation phone call or on the website). They were running a special pre fixe menu but we never can agree on a dish to share. So we ordered the fondue appetizer, which was so yummy that my husband was using the table bread to continue eating it after we ran out of apples, fried artichoke pieces and crostini. My husband ordered the heart of palms salad in which he asked if they could add grilled chicken to and they did, I ordered the Artic Char Risotto with a tomato pesto and pumpkin purée. Honestly all of the food was extremely delicious and fresh. Are server was super friendly, the restaurant was decorated appropriately with lots of balloons and hearts on the tables. On this date like any other we go on we are always a party of three, as are son is always with us. Tonight he decided to fall asleep on the way to the restaurant they were extremely accomodating an very generous moving us to a booth so he could continue his slumber and giving him a balloon. Every employee we came in contact with was very nice. We will defintely be back soon to try out their regular menu.

We had been eyeing J.A. Heneghan’s since the restaurant was under construction and were very excited when it finally opened! Not your average tavern food, with a wide range of selections. We tried several different appetizers and I absolutely loved the crispy calamari; delicate yet crispy with a slightly sweet, flavorful marinara sauce. The clam chowder was freshly made with a twist, including bacon and tasty Long Island corn. The salmon entrée was delicious, cooked just right and complimented with lemon risotto that melts in your mouth, bursting with flavor. Best French onion soup I’ve ever had! Try the bacon-wrapped filet mignon, with Gorgonzola mashed potatoes, caramelized onions, and roasted mushrooms. The ingredients come together so well. The waitstaff and the kitchen staff alike were very friendly and attentive. The ambience is simultaneously comfortable and classy, making for a great evening. We highly recommend J.A. Heneghan’s, and we’ll be back very soon to try the rest of the menu.
