I can’t believe this place is so highly rated! As someone who knows the food industry(especially the sandwich ind) I can tell you this place would never pass a health inspection. It’s disgusting, the owner/sandwich maker looks like he hasn’t washed in days. His clothes are dirty, he wears no gloves and has his grubby hands all over your food. When I went he even had food stuck in his mustache! I don’t care if he’s the nicest guy in the world. He’s here to serve food, and I give a fail in the hygiene department! The place looks closed now, so maybe that’s a good thing!

«Big Mitch» pleeease wash your hands before making my sub(after taking the previous cusomers money) and I will eat here multiple times per week! I live practically next door and am a huge fan of the«overstuffed sub» but food poisoning once in my life was enough! I will never risk it again.

Giant submarine sangwiches overflowing with meat and toppings, but… I have to agree with the other reviewers when it comes to the whole cleanliness thing, HOWHARDISITTOWASHYOURHANDSANDPUTGLOVESON… save the dirty hands for your family’s subs, I’m sure they have a better idea of where they’ve been. Good food doesn’t excuse you from the whole water and soap thing. The owner is cool but again, no excuse. It’s a clone of a Laspadas Sub except for here offers better quality Boar’s Head meat and because of that I’d love to come here more often since I live in walking distance, but it’s not worth the potential sickness from dirty hands. Just like at Bella Monte’s down the street, eat at your own risk. 4 stars for the sub, 0 stars for the hygiene

When you order from here, you will get two meals out of one sandwich. Big Mitch is such a character and will take care of you and is exceptionally friendly. I don’t think I’ve had a better sub in South Florida. The toppings are fresh and I have never had a problem with cleanliness here. This place puts Subway to shame, it’s about 1⁄6 of the sandwich you get at Under the Sun Subs. I recommend this place to everyone who comes to visit and they always rave about their sandwiches as well.

This place puts places like Subway to shame! My husbands sandwich was loaded and my salad was huge and filling! The extra price was well worth it. Tasty meat and yummy veggies. Mitch was great– very friendly :0) Would highly recommend!

It’s probably not far that I give this place five stars, because I did mention that I found it on Unilocal which started a Unilocal conversation and somehow I mentioned that I was going to be reviewing it as Big Mitch prepared my sandwich. So maybe this sandwich was extra good because of that, or maybe it was extra good because I told Mitch to make it the way he would make his own, or maybe it’s just the simple fact that Big Mitch makes really good subs. I’m going with the last one. No parking in the front but there are spots in the back where you can leave your car while your sandwich is prepared. You can choose to eat here — there are some tables out front — or like me, take it to go and find a sunny spot with a beach view. His drink cooler is a little sparse, but there are a few sodas, some water and a little anachronistically, some Corona bottled beers. I can’t agree with the reviews that mention a cleanliness problem. I carefully watched my sandwich being made. The areas on the counter as well as the slicing machine were sparkly clean. He wasn’t wearing gloves when he shook my hand, but a few moments later, the gloves were on as he took the meat and cheese and bread out to assemble awesomeness. Then the gloves went into the bin as he swiped my card. No complaints here at all! Now, the sandwich. Well, I can only describe it as AMAZING. Chock full of spicy Italian meats and smoky Provolone cheese with oil and vinegar and fresh veggies and pickled veggies. The picture I posted simply does not do it justice. It was perfect. I can see why Mitch is «Big Mitch» because if I were to eat one of these every day, I’d be three times his size. Thanks for the great sub, Mitch. It was excellent!(And in case you don’t remember me, I’m the guy who took the picture from across the street.)

Stayed right down the road from this place and decided to check it out based off the reviews on Unilocal. Not only were the subs great but Mitch was a super guy to meet. We called to see how late he was open and he said he was already closing but would wait for us to arrive, we informed him that we were all the way on the other side of town(had been sightseeing) and he said he would wait for us anyway. It took us over 20 minutes to get to his place and he commenced to laughing and joking while he made us some great sandwiches. Fair warning, there is a lot of meat on these sandwiches. Will definitely be back during our next visit to South Florida.

Don’t be misled by the 5-star ratings. This place has a real problem with cleanliness and the proper handling of food. If these issues are important to you, you won’t eat here. The owner needs to wear plastic gloves when making sandwiches, and not go from handling money, etc., to making sandwiches with dirty hands. Also, not keeping filthy, clean-up rags on the board where he makes sandwiches is vitally important, I would say. I invite the owner to respond, and if he decides to address these problems, I’ll gladly drop this one-star review. I’m not trying to harm his business but just see that his customers are protected from exposure to dangerous bacteria. Also, it’s very unappetizing to see such things. Wouldn’t you agree?

When you walk into this cute little sub shop, it’s like you walked right into New York city! Meet Mitch, the owner and sub maker. He’ll make you one of the best hot subs ever. and they are huge and delicious!!! This guy goes above and beyond for his customers and will make whatever you want! Definite Pompano gem!

OK, I’m from NJ, and I hate saying«yada yada is better up North», but subs ARE better up North… until I found Under the Sun. UTS is BETTERTHAN subs from back North. There, I said it. Sorry NJ/NY. Great bread. Great tomatoes(they’re actually red, not pink/orange, and they have flavor). Good, high quality toppings. Good olive oil, and real balsamic vinegar. And Boars Head meat. Huge portions, and good prices. How can you go wrong??? I’m slapping myself for taking so long to discover this place. And on top of all that, I called to make sure they were still open(it was late in the day), and he said he’d wait for me to get there, almost a half hour past closing time. You’ve got to try Under the Sun… you won’t regret it. Oh, and be ready to catch the flying cheese samples. Lol.

I’m not sure if I liked the sandwich or the guys who made my sandwich more. This place is a small hole in the wall close to the beach in Pompano. The owner would have to be one of the most passionate people I have seen making a sandwich. He came over and gave my son a big fat slice of salami to munch on while we waited for our sandwich. However, when he saw me tearing off small bite size pieces for him, he took another slice and rolled it into his hand to be able to eat it like a «big man» My husband and I shared the Italian and it was jammed packed with flavor, the sweet peppers were like little drops of sunshine in every bite as well. Lots of meat, good bread, and love make a super happening sandwich.

This place is just good. We all search for the perfect sub but we seem to always run into chains or places with some kind of gimmick. The owner just does it simple and right. It is a combination that is lost in our current times in regards to food but I have been pleased with the many times I have visited this place. Brother Tucker’s is just a few buildings down and mixing the best beer and subs in the area is something that will make you rethink how you like Pompano.

Okay I have never been to LaSpada’s, I do plan to visit one day. But in my opinion it would be very difficult to beat this establishment. I usually drive around 20 minutes each way to get one of these delicious loaves of heaven. My favorite is the italian. The owner puts a lot of care in his sandwiches and you can taste the difference. The reuben is awesome also. Hands down the best sub shop in town. So here are the official rankings as of today. 1. Under the Sun Subs 2. Lous Subs 3. Subs Subs Subs Last place behind every other sandwich shop. SUBWAY

This place is an oddity. One big guy is the owner and sandwich maker. The subs are enormous but so good that I never save half for later. It’s something about the soft bread and peppers and meat that make my mouth water just thinking about it. I’ve had subs at a few of the other Italian places on Atlantic, and the at busy sub place east of the airport but this place blows all other subs out of the water. Anytime we have friends in town we bring them to this little hole in the wall because the food is so surprisingly good.
