Toscanini

Love this place. Great atmosphere but most importantly great food. Whether you try the specials or the dinner menu every thing tastes great. Thinking about this place is making me hungry. Yum!

I was looking for a small, charming restaurant with a varied menu for a special family dinner, and Toscanini gave us even more than we had hoped for. The décor is cozy yet sophisticated, with plenty of space between the tables for privacy. The host was friendly and informative, and was impressively respectful and attentive towards my father, who is elderly and frail. The wait staff was equally considerate and helpful.
Toscanini’s menu is large and varied, and they offered many daily specials. Between the seven of us, we ordered artichoke oreganta, fried zucchini sticks, and a mozzarella/​olive/​tomato platter for appetizers. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. For our main dishes, we had salmon with pears (special), potato gnocchi, grilled chicken over vegetables, gluten-​free penne a-​la-​vodka with spinach, and frutti di mare. The portions were huge (we all went home with leftovers), the salmon, chicken and seafood were tender and flavorful, and the pasta dishes were cooked to a perfect al-​dente. The vegetables were fresh and not overcooked.
The staff also brought a dessert platter and accompanied us in singing «happy birthday» to one of our guests. The service was phenomenal, and remained so even when the restaurant began to fill up.
We will definitely be going back soon!

Went here with a large group for a celebratory dinner. They seated us pretty quickly. The food was good. The wine we ordered was good. What set the place apart for us was the exceptional service. Our waiter was just the right amount of attentive. He also kindly gave our table 2 complimentary platters of desserts filled with cannoli, red velvet cake, chocolate cake, and homemade tiramisu. It was so much that our group of ten couldn’t finish it. And when we were finished, he again offered the table a round of port to cap the meal off. We have no idea what prompted him to treat us like that and I guess it’s unlikely that others will get as lucky as us, but it really made our night that much better.

A lovely restaurant in Port Washington with friendly service, delicious food, and a comfortable yet «formal» atmosphere. My friends and I all had the fish special which was very flavorful. We loved that they did not rush us out of the restaurant giving us all of the time we wanted to talk and laugh. The waiter was very helpful including giving us specific instructions on how to eat a stuffed artichoke. The host has a good sense of humor. A great overall dining experience.

Toscanini is a great local find! The food, service and owner are as good as it gets! If you are looking for a relaxed, great Italian meal, give Toscanini a try!

In a word: «delish»! This restaurant is on Main Street, but off the beaten track so to speak. The veal is tender and moist and fabulous. Escarole and garlic like momma used to make. I didn’t realize how much I missed truly fine Italian dining.
I will be back.

took the whole family there (8) and couldn’t have been more pleased — of course the host/​owner Freddie is a true restauranteur — gracious, generous, charming — makes you feel very special when you walk in the door — the food is authentic, the portions will not disappoint you, they are very accommodating to special requests, and the price vs quality vs size is of the best value on Long Island — highly recommend this local gem

It was just ok. The service was above average, and the décor was cozy and intimate. But the food wasn’t great. The calamari was thickly cut and rubbery. We both ordered veal, and I suspect the cutlets were precooked. Way overdone and greasy from being breaded and fried. Even the potato side was greasy and seemed precooked. We were visiting from out of town and we were dismayed– from reviews we read, we thought we were in for a great Italian dinner.

Great family restaurant setting. Nice local date spot I suppose if you live in the area. A pretty cool last minute girl date spot for us. Service outstanding; Food, okay. Mushroom risotto tasty. Friend’s linguine in clam sauce a bit «smoky» for my palate. Their bread basket, delicious. Cheesecake and crème brûlée. Not quite the go out of the way to get here place, but it happened to be in a good location for us when we went.

We just had an excellent dinner here. The food was very good, and the staff was extremely friendly. Freddie, the owner, came by to introduce himself and talk with us. It was a very welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. We received a small complimentary dessert and after dinner drink, and felt like we were treated very well by all. When it comes down to it, many places have great food, but not all have outstanding service. This place did, and we will be back.

Toscanini, very pretty room and delicious food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff and overall great environment, sort of come to expect this in the great town of Port.
Salads were fresh and delicious and their artichoke special was out of this world. It’s listed as an appetizer but could easily pass for a meal, artichoke oreganata comes served in a hearty broth/​soup, great for dipping and spooning.
Pasta dishes were also yummy. Can’t go wrong here for neighborhood Italian.

The Bread is really good! But that’s not all! The calamari was crispy and the Pasta Dishes — Muah! (The baked clams were a bit small and dry)
My husband had the Rigatoni Bolognese (Ground Veal & Beef sauce with a touch of cream). This was Really Great! I wish the pasta was a bit more al dente but the sauce was spot on!
I ordered the Special: Rissoto Frutti di Mare. Talk about a TON of seafood! If you are a shrimp lover, I only had 2 shrimps so beware. I don’t like shrimp in my pasta so it was great! Calimari, Clams, Mussels galore! The risotto was great yet I feel that they would have been better separate. It just seemed like all the seafood poured over the risotto took away from it’s true beauty. As a dish it was truly delicious but the risotto was hidden away. The dish would have been just as good over pasta.
The Cannoli was homemade and did not taste like the norm. It was good though. But the real winner was the Tiramisu– holy cow, it was huge — and I could eat it ALL! Definitely get the Tiramisu. Not the most traditional but a wonderful compromise of soft + fluffy and dense.

Great food, great wine, great service.

Great service and great food. Atmosphere: none. Some simple lighting changes and some candles and it would be perfect. Regardless, we’ll be back.

quaint cozy classy and not pretentious. Food is great — try the Artichoke Oregonata. The wait staff is very attentive and the owner is there to make sure everything is perfect. The wine by the glass is 13oz and the house wines are excellent. they will be on my monthly schedule

This is a great family, dating and friends place, very accommodating. Romantic dinner, Sunday brunch, special events, all good here. The staff are extremely professional, polite, the food is great, always supported with an innovative array of specials. Good wine selection, anti pasta and brick oven pizza support a great menu. I have been a customer for many years, never a bad meal. always a pleasant time.

This place is ok. For the price, the food doesn’t measure up to the quality you’d expect.
However, Dessert here is AMAZINGLY good. I had the tiramisu and highly recommend it.
