I have always enjoyed this place since I was little. I go here not often its just not in my price abilities, but I love the egg fu yung but very expensive! The chowmein not soup style is abit bland yes but I do like it. The issue I had most was the ceiling above my booth was missing and in pieces I constantly looked other concern was the waitress she was very kind but she had a very serious condition that looked like a severe psoriasis condition or possibly skin cancer. i was concerned for her she is a human being, with feelings I just felt she should have wore a bandage or a long sleeve its not really sanitary to have open wounds with serious skin issues that just isnt covered its a turn off for customers and risk of infection for her…

GREAT food, great breakfasts… down to the sourdough toast… My favorite is the omelets or steak and eggs. They serve breakfast anytime of day. Great, friendly staff and service. Really good prices. Like it so much we made it our Sunday breakfast spot!!!

Classic Cafè! After driving 4hrs from San Jose, I was feigning for some breakfast and so I decided to stop here after reviewing some of Unilocal suggestions. Parking– I found a spot in front curbside. There is parking out behind the restaurant. After browsing the menu, the Lady… didn’t catch her name at first but saw it on the bill– Donna told me about the Specials. Once I saw Biscuits & Gravy. #4.with a sausage patty. Oh Yeah. SUBSTANCE for my GUT! I ordered Ice Tea since it was freshly made. She stated they make several batches through out the day. Interesting…Chinese & American Dishes, Maybe next time I’ll get some Chinese to-go?! This place is old and out dated. I love it! There is a few old pics of the owners and of the family on the wall. This couple is living the American Dream! My B&G came out smoking hot! I didn’t add nothing to it. No salt, pepper or even Tabasco! Once I chopped up the sausage patty and placing in with the main event, I went to town! DELICIOUS! As I relaxed from my drive and read some of the reviews here as I ate. I enjoy reading what« Unilocalers» complain about! Why are they 1-Stars?!? Why a 5-Star.Slurp Slurp. I’ll stop here again. I look forward in some Chinese food!

Just ate the worst food I have eaten in many years at Lims. Chicken chow mein was absolutely horrible, egg foo yong tasted bland, flavorless, and if anything tasted like grill brick. The world needs to be warned about not choosing to eat here. Everyone in the family was very disappointed with the food. Just plain awful food.

I have been going to Lims for over fifty years. Usually see someone you know. My favorite is the Chinese chicken salad. You can’t go wrong with one of the lunch specials.

Wow, I didn’t think you could mess up Chinese food, but alas I was WRONG!!! The first thing I have to mention is the temperature of the food, it was luke warm, you know like the kind your mother always told you to avoid due to salmonella. The taste well, you know the food that they feed you in the hospital, after Lims, that food will taste pretty damn great. I never thought much about soy sauce but I had to learn to appreciate it to doctor up the food. And the service, wow what can I say here it was like watch Mel’s dinner without the cute humor or the«kiss my grits».

For an establishment that has been in business for as long as it has, it goes down hill with each year. The last time my wife and I were here was over a decade ago, and we came in about half an hour before closing. We were told half way through our meal that we had to pay. Being a person to give second chances, we returned after a long absence, and today were greeted with a hollered, «sit anywhere!» by the waitress who looked like she was straight from a second rate truck stop. The food was cold and tasteless, and we were checked back on at a distance once, being left with empty glasses. It was obvious that we were not neglected due to the vast number of customers, as I counted one when we arrived, and two others who received the same marching orders while we were eating. In my opinion, a Swanson frozen dinner would have tasted much better for a lot less money.

Noooo stars, This place serves up soupy chow mein. It looked like vomit and the chicken taste like chitterlings since I can not use profanity. I don’t know how and why this place is open. Sir take off the happy hat and smile, I left sad and confused.

I think this is food from a lost era. The food is not good, and how they can call it Chinese food is mind boggling. I gave it two chances, both visits were bad. The only reason I give it two stars instead of one is for the service. The waitress was very kind and attentive each visit.

After hearing a great review from my future father-in-law, I decided to pay this place a visit. Although the waitress was friendly, the food wasn’t that good. I ordered chow mein, egg phở Yung and chicken drumsticks, all of which was very bland. Sorry to say that I won’t be returning to this establishment.

This was the WORST Chinese food we’ve ever had. Based in the reviews I expected at least average food, nothing spectacular, but I wasn’t prepared for such bad food. When the check came I was even more disappointed. It was for too expensive. Maybe if you’ve never eaten any other Chinese food you would like it? The waitress was very nice, so there, I’ve ended on a high note. Avoid this place. So sad.

It’s the kind of place that if you grew up in the area you love it but if you have never been before your probably won’t get the appeal. The Chinese food is wonderful, we have been ordering the same items for 35 years. We recently went with about 10 of my family members and shared family style, the food was great, the service is fun and friendly and the bill was $ 10 each. Will be back soon…

If you’re looking for an old-fashioned family-run restaurant with good food at affordable prices, this is the place! If you’re looking for white tablecloths and a Michelin star, this isn’t for you. We were in Redding and happened upon this place during our travels. Lim’s Café has old school charm. It was fun to eat on the diner side of the restaurant. Plus, we enjoy supporting small family-run businesses. The people here are nice and down-to-earth. The menu is huge with breakfast items, American and Chinese cuisines and the portion sizes are good. We ordered a variety of dishes to get a good sampling of what the restaurant has to offer; a cup of egg flower soup(the way I love it with peas, mushrooms and water chestnuts!), a hamburger, a tuna fish salad sandwich and a big bowl of Chinese chicken noodle soup. They did not disappoint! Everything tasted good! I regret that we didn’t have more of an appetite so that we could order the egg foo young too! Will we be back? Oh, you can count on it! Lim’s Café is a real gem!

This gem of an antique restaurant exists in a pocket of the past. The food is Cantonese/American. The food is excellent and just enough different from what most think of as Chinese to make every dish interesting. The staff, both serving and cook staff is full of concern, caring and confidence. When in Redding check out this gem from an earlier day.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. We got the number 1 meal(recommended by her) it has quite an extensive appetizer and main dish choices. We liked the won tons, the BBQ ribs, and wrapped chicken but not so much the drumsticks because they were flavorless. The egg flower soup was delicious. The sub gum chow mein with pan fried noodles was so good and the fried rice was good too. We didn’t care much for the sweet and sour pork. The meat was fatty and the sauce was just ok. We will definitely go back but swap out the sweet and sour for something else.

As a child, this was the only Chinese food place that my family ordered from. I have so many memories going to their restaurant for dinner and drinking Shirley Temples. The owners are so friendly, as well as the other staff members. I was so excited to take my husband here for the first time tonight. He loves it as well. I know they have an American menu but I am really only familiar with their Chinese menu. I love everything about this place, right down to the décor. The Egg Foo Yung is delicious! They are a great(historic) part of this community and I’ve enjoyed every visit in my 25 years.

Stopped in after our road trip to have a late bite. Friendly staff & chef. We had a small group come in around 8:35pm and they took care of us really well. Food was tasty and found out they have been in business for 80 yrs. Wow really great! Family owned & operated. We couldn’t finish our meal so the waitress offered to box it up for us. Really helpful since my folks were handy cap a little. Also locals eat here too. Saw a few eating & one couple picking their order up. If we are in town again we will eat here! Thanks for the great food & service

UPDATE I ate at Lims for the very last time and will NEVER go back. A guest and I were enjoying the special chowmein when we noticed a cockroach on the wall! That was all it took. You know, as they say, For every one roach you see there are a thousand more that you don’t see. This was disgusting. I know this sort of thing can be a problem for restaurants from time to time but as I searched around the internet I found others who have seen these disgusting roaches at Lims also. YUCK!
