Nello’s Place

nellos is one of our favorite restaurants. however the last time we were there we were disappointed. i ordered calamari. don’t know what it was they served me. something that didn’t look or taste like calamari. haven’t been back. hope it has improved the calamari since we were there.

My wife and I went here last night to celebrate Valentines Day. We had reservations and were seated immediately upon our arrival. It took a while to decide because so many things looked delicious. As you can imagine, it was very busy, but the service was still EXCELLENT! Although the many Italian dishes sounded wonderful, we both ordered Filet Mignon, because it is our favorite. We always get the larger offering so we can take half home for the next day, which is tonight, and my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
The full dinner comes with an antipasto for 2, house salad (with as much bleu cheese as you want, a small portion of manicotti or cannelloni, as well as a small pasta and vegetables with your main course. We split a piece of chocolate cake with semi-​sweat pieces for desert. ALL Were EXCELLENT. It was a great night because of the wonderful dinner and fantastic service.

So shocked that this amazing place has been in Redding for decades and I have never heard about it until a week ago. My son and I came for a celebration dinner and were overwhelmed with the stunning atmosphere and exquisite food. We showed up on a Wednesday at 530 and caught the early bird special menu… We tried the fried ravioli which were super delicious. To watch the house shrimp salad be prepared before our eyes was extraordinarily exciting. My son had the fettucini alfredo and I had the chicken allegro. DELICIOUS! The waiter and servers were dressed impeccably and were all connected and in tune with us as patrons. I only just read about their desserts and am eager to go back again soon. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The atmosphere and servers are awesome! The food overall is ok. The minestrone was a little watery. As far as presentation each dish tended to look the same and their pasta gravy was bland. The calamari was tasty. The style of the antipasto is very different served with tuna salad. All and all good experience. Will be trying the steak next time.

This is our favorite date restaurant in redding! The service is impeccable! We love the salad with shrimp and blue cheese, and the chicken Parmesan and chicken Rozzini are our favorites! Did we mention the service is amazing?! If you want to be treated like you are special, and eat an amazing dinner, you can’t go wrong with Nello’s!!!

Great atmosphere. Tasteful décor. Authentic Italian family run establishment. Our server was attentive. Salmon entrée was tender and delicious. Would have given 5 stars if the fried raviolis were not overfried, and if the eggplant parmigiana did not come out lukewarm. Recommend trying the tiramisu. One of the best ever tasted. Would recommend and return.

Definitely a special occasion spot. You will not be able to eat all the food, great salad and antipasti, with a pasta dish and bread all before your dinner shows up followed up by ice cream for desert. Decent corkage fee of $ 10. I will try to split my meal the next time I go.

This would be an easy five star review if it weren’t the LOUDEST restaurant I have ever been in. Honestly. The food is good and so is the service, but it would seriously benefit from some noise dampening curtains or foam padding. School cafeterias are quieter than this restaurant.

Walking into Nello’s is like walking onto the set of Goodfellows. This place screams New Jersey 1982 and I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been renovated since then. Is this a bad thing? Certainly not, but the food could improve a bit.
Besides the décor, what you’ll get here are classic Italian American dishes. Think deep fried, heavy marinara, and gloopy cheeses. Again, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if fresh light dishes are what you’re looking for than don’t come here.
My calamari was great, not overcooked and perfectly tender. My uncle ordered crab cakes and insisted I take a bite and unfortunately I regretted it –greasy and not-​so-​fresh tasting. My chicken parmesan was good, but my pene pasta was limp and the broccoli overcooked. I received a free spumoni ice cream for dessert when I checked in (who doesn’t love spumoni). Overall, average but probably a step above for Redding.

New to the area and what a gem nellos is fantastic food and service. Being from the bay area I felt like I was at a restaurant in North beach. I was full before dinner even arrived! Can’t wait to go back! The chicken picatta was delicious

My brother and I ate here two years ago and we still can’t stop talking about it. It was just like at home, we fought over the Manicotti. The food is outstanding. The truth is, Italian food in California is usually a huge fat disappointment. I think there are too many Northerners here. (I save all my pasta points for when I fly back East.) But Nello’s is the real deal, and the best Italian I’ve had since West of the Mississippi. Is it worth the drive from Oakland? Well, add a trip to Mt. Lassen or Whiskeytown, and then YES.
I’m not usually one for tradition, but I like the style at Nello’s. Like how come they’re the ONLY restaurant that has spumoni? Like if you don’t have spumoni on your dessert menu, why do you even bother? The spumoni is great, the cherries jubilee, another classic, is better here than at fancy pants Corso in Berkeley. All I’m saying is, if you’re looking for food on I-​5 do yourself a favor and head to Nello’s.

Drove by why on and road trip and found them on Unilocal.We ordered to go since we were in sweats. It’s really nice inside, I wish we were dressed a little better and we would have eaten there. The spaghetti with marinara was amazing!!! No butter, no cheese, no meatballs makes it Vegan! I would defiantly come back if we were in town again. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs and he said they were the best meatballs he’s ever had.

Nello’s deserves 5 stars due to the fantastic, complete experience and exceptional food quality. Came with my family for my birthday dinner. I had the 16 oz filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. The soup and bread was bomb. I tried some of the salad, too, it was perfect with some fresh bleu cheese. I had the manicotti and also tried some of the other choice (that I can’t remember the name of! D’oh!) that my dad got. Yum and yum. My dad had the steak Diane, the presentation was rad the amazing waiter cooked it next to our table and it was intense. My boyfriend choose a lamb dish, delish. My brother said his halibut wasn’t great but he was drinking a lot and is kinda an ass when he drinks, so who knows. The other dinner guests and people at the bar were so friendly and good sports (my dad makes a lot of jokes when he’s drinkin!)… people complimented me several times which made me feel really nice! The waiters and servers were the best I’ve ever experienced. I’m from Redding, though, so I haven’t experienced much! Still, impressed!!! The service was superior and so was the food, I have to think anyone giving less than five stars might be one of those folks who cannot be pleased. Don’t be that guy! This place rocks. Rates up there with Jack’s grill for me, though I must say the service was much better at Nello’s. We’re going back for my boyfriend’s birthday later this month.

Amazing restaurant. The veal was so tender and tasty that it’s a true testament to the effectiveness of chaining a baby cow to a pole for its entire short yet delicious life.

We love Nello’s! We go at least once a month for a Sunday family dinner. It’s not rushed like Friday and Saturday and we get our own booth. They treat you special and the food is delicious!

Outstanding food and service. Had the early dinner special and enjoyed it. I’ll be back again.

Well, Thomas Wolfe said You Can’t Go Home Again but I humbly beg to differ… at least in regard to having a superfantastic 3+ hour dining experience.
Tom hit it clean out of the ballpark again tonight… it was like deja-​vu all over again (nod to Yogi Berra)…same table, same appetizers, same BEST DOGGONE CAESER SALAD IN THE GALAXY, same Café Diablo and same Cherries Jubilee… the only thing we switched out was the entrée as Fresh Alaskan Halibut was IN THE HOUSE… awesome.
I just don’t have the superlatives to do justice by the Cherries Jubilee and Café Diablo one two punch but that diabetic coma was sooooo worth it. :-D
And a shout out for the Cannelloni! It hasn’t received the love it deserves in prose from my reviews but. is…perfect…the absolute pinnacle of perfection. Honestly, it is just stunning how tasty the Cannelloni is at Nellos. I’ve never had it’s like and doubt I ever will.
So don’t let em do ya ugly and believe you cant ever go home again cause, God as my witness, you really can at Nello’s.

Let me start by saying, this place is insanely good!!!
Being from out of town we tried to find a place near by our hotel, and we used Unilocal to get us there. The food, service and atmosphere were exceptional. Felt like we were literally transported to Italy, but we were still in Redding, Ca.
Everything we had was amazing !
I had snapper and others had chicken parm.
All pastas were done to perfection and all apps were perfect as well!
Bravo!

We are never disappointed with Nello’s! Tonight we had the pleasure of sitting in Jake’s section. Amazing service, never had to ask for a thing! On top of the wonderful people that work at Nello’s the food is always prepared to perfection. If there is ever a question on where to eat, Nello’s is it! Thank you Nello’s staff for yet another great experience.

Consistently good. This was our third time at Nello’s and there is nothing to not like. Well, maybe that it’s too dark to take decent pictures of the food. But that’s really nitpicking.
We made reservations on-​line, showed up ½ hour early and were seated immediately. All the usual things, menus, water, bread, butter presented quickly.
Our waiter was San and he was a gracious and charming waiter who knew his stuff. He could anticipate what we were going to ask for and nailed it each time. The restaurant was not particularly busy on a Sunday night and the staffing was just right. Attentive and not at all rushed.
I had my usual three-​way of Veal, Scampi and Scallops. No reason to try anything else. She had a Sirloin Steak which she enjoyed thoroughly. Even though we look at Unilocal and other restaurants, we end up here because we know what we’re going to get and that’s what we want on the last leg of our driving vacation.
