Yuen Lui Studio

I had my daughter photographed over a month ago. I bought a package while leaving the studio and was told I could go home and take some time to review the images before choosing which one I wanted printed. I finally decided on my selections and have been calling everyday for the past 5 days and no one has returned my phone calls. It’s very frustrating and unprofessional. Never again.

Horrible experience. Left unhappy with no photos and a wasted Sunday afternoon. We did a reshoot at the Bellevue location and it was wonderful. The staff in Redmond was unprofessional and apathetic. The staff in Bellevue was kind, patient, and professional. If you got the groupon like we did or are just looking for a place to get family photos; go to their Bellevue location.

We used the Groupon Deal where you paid $ 49 you get to have 1 post for print and the chance for 3 more later in 3 other sessions. The photographer was good. The sales lady who let u picked the photo was ok. Not friendly at all… Probably realize that we will not shell out $ 499 for the package on the fly since we are using Groupon.
Very high pressure sales tactics. They let you take a look at the pic and then then asked you to upgrade the package that is starting from 179 to 499 with a 10% discount on the spot. And this is the only 1 time opportunity you get to do it. The minute you walked out of the door, the deal is gone.
The $ 179 package basically let you take 3 more pic from the lists of photo you had taken and that is it… That is $ 50 for photo and you must buy 3 photo. So if you go with the cheapest package, you basically paid $ 12.50 (from groupon’s 1 out of 4 pic) plus $ 179 for 4 photo.
You wonder how much $ these people are making by asking you to take some pic and then sold you a $ 499 package. The whole session may be 10 to 15 min and then 10 min going over the pic of photo package upgrade.
I will not particapte in any more Yuen Lui stuff anymore… This is just ridiculos pricing.

I too used the Groupon and went to the Tacoma, WA location. The last time I visited was 12 years ago. I was hoping for improvement but was sadly disapointed.
Wait time was fine. The photographer however… yikes! He kept trying to get our attention by shouting out random family member names. For example, he’d try to get my daughter’s attention by saying directly to her «Nathaniel!» (my oldest son). This could be why instead of smiles, half the pictures feature a confused look on my children’s faces.
Also the backgrounds were either white white or dark. The lighting is also more harsh, not flattering at all to creases or wrinkles. The studio was confortable, but cluttered, almost tripped a few times. But what makes me real mad is that many of the pictures from the session are off centered, and therefore worthless.
All in all because I used a groupon, I think I got the shaft treatment. Others were there and seemed to have a much better experiance, they got to choose their pictures right then and there are got personal service. I on the other hand waited 10 minutes after the shoot to have the rep rapidly scan through our pictures, then given a piece of paper with instructions and told to call when I choose. Yeah for no high preasure tactics, but I get more personal service at Sears Portraits!
Proofing your pics via the web sounds like it would be okay at first. But their website features VERY LOW resolution photos, which make it near impossible to compare fine details in order to choose the best shot.
For the same regular price as Yuen Lui, you can visit a studio where the light is more flattering, photographers are nicer/​funnier, the posses are original, and then get your images touched up to perfection. Bummer

Used our Groupon deal to try Yuen Lui out and I have to say, I’m completely unimpressed. We arrived a few minutes early but the photographer wasn’t ready… nor was he ready 15 minutes later. Finally get into the studio with a different photographer than the one we were originally assigned. We end up doing at least 10 different poses (but they only show you some of them… who knows where the others were) and honestly, none of them were particularly flattering.
I’m no super model but I can take a decent picture. and since, you know, I’m me, I know what works for me and what doesn’t. But of course, you go to these things expecting to trust the professional… so you do what they tell you to. Tilt my head unnaturally? Sure. Smile with teeth, even though I don’t want to? Okay done. Make my husband give me a piggy back ride? Uhh. okay.
My boy is in 2^nd Grade. old enough to not be a «little kid» anymore. and the photographer tried using baby sounds to make him laugh. At one point she pulled down a background that had Roman columns in the background and we were all supposed to stand in front and pose. I asked for another background. If I wanted this level of phony, nouveau-​rich rubbish I could have an artist come to the house and paint a family portrait of us. Ugh.
When we’re finally done we get the same sales pitch mentioned in some of the other reviews. Buy today or pay twice as much later. Oh and BTW it takes THREE WEEKS to print your pictures… because, as you can tell by our tacky backgrounds and awful high-​school-​photographer-​grade poses we still live in the 1990’s… so printing photographs takes a reallllyyy long time.
There isn’t a chance in he^% I’m taking my family here again.
Yuen Lui may have been a tasteful professional photography studio ten years ago but they certainly aren’t any longer. What a waste of a morning.

We used our groupon deal here and had a great time! Our photographer Brandon was really fun to work with, and we got a ton of different poses done in less than half an hour. The studio was clean and comfortable; everyone was very friendly.
I’m only knocking a star off because the price to upgrade to even 2 poses is crazy high ($ 250!). If you can do one-​pose-​for-​$ 50 and only choose one photo from your session, then it’s a great deal. But when you have 10 favorites from an awesome shoot, it’s going to cost a TON to get any of them!

Good photographers (good, not great) but overpriced and high pressure sales tactics. Used a Groupon for a $ 50 for a shoot and 1 pose and if we wanted more, we could upgrade to one of their other packages that ranged from $ 250 to $ 450, but those prices were only good that day. There wasn’t even a mirror in the studio where they shoot the pictures and they don’t show you the pictures until they’re done shooting. Supposedly, you can see them online afterwards to decide which one (s) you like and want to order but a day later they’re still not up and according to their literature, they only post them for 14 days. Oh, but they’ll leave them up for another 14 days for $ 10.
Not impressed.
