Ichiban is outstanding. I took my friend and her 5 year old son here for her birthday, and it was the perfect choice for the big day. Her son was convinced the chefs were ninjas, and my friend had a blast. She couldn’t stop raving about the quality of food, and great experience… I strongly recommend the shrimp as the appetizer, lobster and filet mignon as entrée… this is definitely a «special event» restaurant, and I would imagine it’s even more fun with a large group.

Came here on 2÷14÷16 and this place did no impress me. There was an hour wait, which was not bad due to the fact that it was Valentines Day. The most busiest day of the year for most restaurants. We gave them our phone number and they called us whenever our table was ready. We did the all you can eat sushi for 29.95 which is only available at the sushi bar. High top chairs with very little room to move. The service was good, and the chef was very friendly. He tried his best to accommodate us. However, I felt super bad because he was attending to three couples. You really could only order one roll at a time because he would be so backed up to assist his other patrons. The rolls were very basic. Everything taste pretty much the same. The baked mussels was a good appetizer, and I’m glad we could get it since it was placed under the sashimi section. The thing that sucked the most was that for 29.95 you could only order rolls. And for an additional $ 20 you could get nigiri or sashimi pieces. Total rip off.

Ichiban for dinner is an absolute MUST while visiting Reno! Make absolute sure that Manny(the Hibachi chef) is working and that you sit with him! You can tell that he loves his work and he just does it naturally! 10 stars for Ichiban — will be back to see Manny every time I visit Reno!!!

5 stars for our chef Walter Lopez!!! This is our first time at this restaurant and the food/show was so good! I didn’t even finish half of my food and I was already extremely stuffed. The food was really tasty and good quality meat and seafood. Walter made our time here such a great experience. He was funny and friendly. Thanks Walter! :)

I love this place. Haven’t been to Reno for about 10 years and the first place we ate for dinner was Ichiban! We were lucky to have reservation on xmas eve. Our experience was fabulous. We had the honor of receiving JV as our chef and he did a wonderful job! The food was amazing and the show was fantastic! He started off our trip great! It’s like a benihana but 10x better. I got the«kobi» and my brother got the superior. We’re both picky eaters but we were surprised at how much we enjoyed every bite! Our friends met us up two days later and wanted to try this place, i said i didn’t mind going again because the food was great and it’s so fun. We went to sterlings the day before and it was not comparable to here. i wanted to request JV again but sadly, we were not able to request. This time, we received Manny and he was awesome! Our waitress this time was very accommodating and sweet, i believe her name was kathlyn. The both made the experience even better, if that was possible! It was our friends first time and i didn’t hype it up too much for them but they loved it as much as i did! I’m so glad it was not a disappointment. This time we got the a la carte sushi: konoha, sierra mountain and sweetheart roll. Along with the filet mignon and teriyaki chicken. My friends all got teppanyaki but i was so excited about my food that i didnt bother to ask what they ordered. It all did not disappoint! I will miss this place. I usually don’t leave Unilocal reviews unless it was wonderful experience or a horrible one. I’m very glad to say this is a place you must try and next time i’m in reno, i will be back! Only because the chefs are awesome!!! I love how the chefs have their own humor and technique. The hosts needed some work on though, a smile wouldn’t hurt.

This review is for the hibachi part of the restaurant. Manny was absolutely the best! I have been to several hibachi restaurants from big chains like Benihana to small local offerings. This was the best experience I have had, and it was thanks to Manny. Hibachi experiences are extremely dependent on the chef you get, and we lucked out. My girlfriend took me here for my birthday, and it was fantastic. Manny was very highly skilled, engaging, and very funny. The server was also great, and very attentive, but I did not catch her name. Overall, it was a terrific experience, and I have to recommend this location. Hopefully you luck out and get a chef like Manny too!

Not your neighborhood Benihana but a Teppanyaki experience all-the-same. Compared to Benihana price-wise, Ichiban’s adult entrée’s are cheaper and offer different choices compared to Benihana’s menu. Pretty affordable in my opinion. On the other hand, Ichiban’s children’s entrée’s are more expensive than Benihana’s and have fewer choices. I haven’t tried their AYCE sushi that was described by other Unilocalers but I can comment on their Teppanyaki show– and the food was delicious. I kept finding myself comparing it to Benihana in my head because I have the tricks and timing of the food being cooked at Benihana memorized(we go to Benihana several times a year). There is just something that I love about how the food tastes when cooked on a metal surface(that is not a pan) in front of me. I’m not really there for the show although I do enjoy it. The kids love it too no matter how many times they’ve seen it. Tips for newbies: Don’t arrive hungry because it takes awhile for your food to cook, and don’t wear nice clothes or anything that you want to re-wear again because your hair and your clothes will smell like food and you will need to take a shower and throw your clothes in the washer when you get home. Go there. The end.

Hostess: Kirsten(I think) Chef: Manny My father-in-law was in town from New Jersey and loves coming here every time he’s in town. Bottom line. Tonight’s dinner and service was outstanding. The hostess was very attentive and kind. I would also say that if it’s possible ask to sit at the table where Manny will be serving! He not only made the food delicious but he was also very entertaining! Our little 5 yr boy talked his ear off but he was still able to do his job and chat at the same time. He knew a lot of tricks and cracked a lot of jokes. :)

OK, this is a fun place to drink or eat. I travel to Reno on business one a year and this is always on the agenda. The hibachi is always fun and good food. I would also bump the rating up a little because of Connie because she is a magician at the bar and an all around great person to talk to about the area. Chris because he is a cool sushi chef in the desert. The hibachi is expensive but you get a great show. A chef that is willing to share his sake. The food is prepared to order and very good. The all you can eat is good. There are plenty of choices and everything is made quickly. I thought the sushi rice was lacking a little flavor but the fish was fresh and prepared well. The upside-down shrimp were my favorite. I highly recommend this as one of your stop while in town either for dinner or drinks at the bar.

Really who doesn’t enjoy dinner with a show? Admittedly we don’t eat here often but when we have out of town guests they always enjoy going here and the food and experience have always been great. I ordered the veggie dinner. I got a mountain of flavorful, tender cooked veggies. Zucchini has never tasted so awesome! Dinner came with all the usual suspects: soup, salad, rice and the bonus of us on noodles. Yum-O! Our chef was fun and his grill show was great. Always a good experience!

If you were turning eight years old and your parents let you pick any restaurant for dinner, what would you pick? Some may think things like Chuck E. Cheese or a burger joint. Not my kid. He wanted«that place where they cook at your table». So to Ichiban we went. It’s always such a fun experience. We shared a table with another family celebrating a birthday so that was pretty neat. We all enjoyed our food as much as we enjoyed the show. The calamari appetizer was the stand-out dish though. So good! Scallops were amazing too. The best part for the birthday boy was the special ice cream he got– vanilla, wrapped in some sort of cake and deep fried. He sure loved that. The daughter has already decided this is what she wants for her next birthday too.

Enjoyed a great dinner at this awesome Japanese Steakhouse. Did the early bird special. A friend with us enjoyed a FREE birthday dinner, on his birthday. Haven’t been here for many years. It was so good, service wonderful, the show from our waiter was outstanding. I enjoyed the filet mignon and my hubby had the tempura chicken, it was delicious. Loved the green tea ice cream also comes with the dinner. We will have to go here more often. JUSTLOVEIT!

The sushi bar at Ichiban is one of our go-to spots in Reno. Pros: –I’ve been here probably five times and the fish is always fresh. I love the sashimi, but my favorites are the baked muscles, uzura shot(It’s a party in your mouth!), and tempura(shrimp, chicken, and/or veggie). –Ming and Vinnie are superb sushi chefs and Connie is a friendly server. –This last time, they had a promo for tempura soft-shell crab and it was delicious! –For a birthday in our party, they sang happy birthday and gave us tempura ice cream. Cons: –The price has been raised since my last visit. It used to be about $ 30 for everything, but now it’s $ 30 for sushi and $ 50 for sashimi. Given that it’s AYCE, it’s still worth it, but it definitely hits the wallet a little deeper than before. Tips: –When speaking to the host or hostess, make sure to indicate that you want to sit at the bar, or they will assume you want the teppanyaki. –This place gets very crowded so we usually go right when it opens at 4:30 and have prompt service as a result.
