2.5 Stars I really thought it was just okay. Tried it while i was in town for the weekend visiting. Came across it on Unilocal and decided to come here for lunch on Saturday. We had to wait quite a while to be seated even though the restaurant really wasn’t that busy. I opted to try this one over the other one due to the Unilocal reviews saying this one was bigger and I figured parking was better since it wasn’t shared with a Costco like the other one. $ 16.95 for AYCE lunch. They had a good selection of appetizers which I really liked the mussels, gyoza and pizza. I felt with the lunch selection, the quality of the rolls were lacking just because most of the ingredients were really basic stuff. If you wanted a larger variety and a range of other ingredients then you’d have to opt for the higher listed AYCE option. Maybe I’m spoiled and have wonderful AYCE options that offer premium sushi rolls at home. But really Sushi Pier to me was just okay. Nothing that wowed me or was that spectacular. Service was slow but understandably cause they seemed short staffed. It took a while to get our order in but our food came out fairly quickly. Overall it was okay. Nothing bad but nothing that wowed me to the point where I have to deem it as a place to come back to every time I’m in town.

Sushi Pier II, cough, Midtown, has a pretty good valued lunch special: a long roll, 4 pieces of nigiri, an appetizer and soup and salad all for just $ 10.50 or so. I’ve ordered it to-go a couple times and it is good for the middle of the week-don’t have time for AYCE meal. I did go in for AYCE lunch though last week with a friend and her friend, and it wouldn’t have surprised me if it was warmer outside than inside, beyond freezing inside. I ordered a few things, albacore(on accident), Wayne’s and Joey Ramone handrolls, and Moondog longroll. We didn’t really share much between us, but I did try a bite of the Bentley roll, which was overpowered with onion flavor. So much its all I could taste after. The albacore was dry and bland. The Waynes and Moondog are okay, because it’s all cooked and has sugar in it, and I don’t remember the Ramone one. There are sooo much better sushi options in town, they also don’t offer the full menu at lunch and it is $ 17.95. It’s cold, beat up(booth seats are sad) and dark in here. If I come back it will be for the lunch special take out, but won’t spend money on AYCE again. They are totally relying on the brand history in Reno, I’ve never understood why so many tourists rave about sushi piers, they are mediocre compared to what else is out there in town.

The sushi is good here. Fresh and served with a smile. It just doesn’t have the flair that other sushi places have. Their rolls are very basic with basic sauces. The menu just calls it sauce without a description even though I noticed the sauces on the rolls were a little different in flavor. The descriptions in the menu are off, for instance I ordered a roll that states it has veges inside and seared tuna on top. The roll came with a tiny sliver of veges and stuffed with smoked tuna and a slice of tuna on top. The menu should have stated the fish was inside the roll. Other than the description it was tasty. Rolls are huge and the appetizers are yummy. For dessert we had Mochi, a happy ending(fried banana split) and the orange. We were told that the orange is a Japanese delicatessen and that the orange is cut decorative and served with strawberries and drizzled in a plum wine. What we got was an orange with the skin cut off, something like a mother would do for their infant child. I would not call that a decorative cut I would call it lazy. The strawberries were ripe and delicious and they taste really good with the plum wine but I feel like that dessert is a waste of money and calling it an ancient Japanese delicatessen is an insult to the Japanese culture. They always do things so fancy I figured from the description it would’ve be en a lot prettier presentation. Oh well. I would still definitely go back here on occasion. It is a Reno icon.

Ok, I’m pretty disappointed with my service tonight. I’ve been to this place several time over the past few years. I’ve pretty much always had a good experience. Tonight was a sharp exception. Two of us sat down at the bar(not the sushi bar) at about 4:30. We ordered a beer and mentioned that we wanted the«all you can eat». The bar tender brought us water and the beer, put down the all you can eat order sheet, and walked away. Several servers walked back and forth past us without checking to see if we needed anything. We finally bugged a busser to find someone to take our order sheet. Quickly, the two appetizers we ordered were dropped off. Eventually, our four rolls were brought out. Our nigiri was never brought out. We finished all of our food and no one came back during that time to check on us, see if we needed anything, see if we wanted another beer or more water, or to see if we wanted to order any other sushi. Eventually another couple sat down at the bar. The bar tender finally came back close to 5:30, took their drink order, and spent several minutes making them signature mixed drinks. Once done, he moved around the bar working on other drinks and never making eye contact with us. We had to call his attention to ask for our check which he got for us in about 10 seconds. Honestly, he spent more time making the two drinks for the other couple then he he did interacting with us at all. I don’t know if they were short staffed or if there was a miscommunication about who was supposed to be taking care of us, but leaving customers almost completely alone from before they even order should not happen at a restaurant. This may have just been enough to lose my patronage.

Nigiri = 4.5, surprisingly delicious. Everything else = 3 I was not expecting much at all, particularly because they offer all-you-can eat, but the nigiri was amazing. If I hadn’t also tried a bunch of rolls, I might have had a difficult time not giving this place 5 stars.

Used to live in Reno and when ever I make it back Sushi Pier is a must. Best all you can eat sushi I have had anywhere! Great fish, great staff, and great prices!

Great sushi, I love sushi. Sushi pier midtown is really good. There are two tiers of sushi in Reno. There are good sushi places and bad ones. Most are good and this is no exception. It’s a great place to meet friends and has excellent fish and excellent service.

Since becoming a sushi lover, I’ve become a sushi… oh what’s the word, preferentialist? Basically, I’m choosey with where I get my sushi, and this place, is one of them. I’ve been here 3 – 4 times(and once to the location in Tahoe). I’ve never had bad service. I’ve sat at the bar all times, so I cannot speak for table service. All the sushi chefs have been super attentive and ready to make my next roll as I’m eating the current one. They do offer a student discount. I don’t believe it is listed on their menu anywhere, but just ask. Speaking of their menu, it’s small, in size and variety(compared to other places), but their rolls are great, and you don’t need a huge menu to be satisfied. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, so I can’t remember any rolls off the top of my head, but know that what you’ll get, you’ll like(well, if you like what’s in the rolls you order). I haven’t had bad sushi from here, and I will certainly continue to come back and eat here when I’m in the area.

Literally the best sushi I’ve ever had! You would think reno wouldn’t have good suish because it’s so in-lin, but I believe they get there fish fresh every other day. I live in the bay area, right next to San Fransisco. None of the places I been to compare to sushi pier. I highly recommend going here! All you can eat dinner rolls with your choice of appoitzer. And you think, «all you can eat» might be bad. No it’s amazing!!! Every time I go to reno I make sure I eat here to get my pier fix in.

Went here for a small family vacation and have been to the original as well: We order an assortment of nigiri… from saba to hamachi and so forth. Everything was fresh, from the delicious hand rolls to the desert. Tip: order AYCE unless you plan on buying one or two things at the most. Service was great also, the lady was polite and constantly asked if we needed refreshments. As for the chef, Edson is the must see chef(If you go ask to be seated with him). I recommend the happy ending desert and the moondog hand roll.

Sushi pier was decent. It is extremely high volume, and the menu offerings definitely reflect the science of convincing ayce patrons that the various options were put together will a bit of attention. The fresh scallops really made me feel at home, and laid to rest the fear of eating any form of seafood more than 50 miles from the coast. It’s worth a visit!

I’ve been to this Sushi Pier a few times and the experience is awesome every time! They get busy so there can be a bit of a wait to get in. Once seated, the service is pretty good regardless of if you sit at a bar or table. The sushi chefs are very fun and charismatic, it’s worth eating at the bar at least once just to get a taste of Sushi Pier’s personality. The menu offers a wide variety of sushi rolls featuring many different kind of fish. Their All You Can Eat menu offers appetizers and desserts. Each roll is really good. I think my favorite is their King Kong Roll, but I recommend trying absolutely everything!

Super friendly and fine takeout… I’ll have to hold off on the last star until I get to done in there. Staff very good at what they do! Strawberries in the sea weed salad was a bit odd, but I may come to like it.

Just as a foreword, the first time I ever ate sushi in Reno was at sushi pier 2 at its parklane location. One time was all it took. I was a sushi fanatic. The new location is much larger and has lost none of its steam. The menus has stayed mostly unchanged for these many years. And this is a plus due to the fact that it is well rounded and has as many options as you could ever wish for. One great plus is that their unagi are huge. No pipsqueak eel in this place. They are always friendly. Even when they are busy. Sometimes they can get a little slow when the place is packed but that is to be expected when you are getting high quality sushi in every bite. Sushi Pier 2 rocks. Give it a try. You won’t regret it. I promise.

I have eaten here a few times a couple of times at a table and a couple at the bar. I would say the I recommend the table, servers are pleasant and attentive. The rolls you order come fairly fast. I recommend eating here for a good meal.

Before I begin my review I would like to add a disclaimer, I’m a vegetarian… so take my Unilocal Review of a sushi restaurant with a grain of salt ;) Normally, I don’t go to sushi restaurants because they are the few restaurants where I have little to nothing to eat, but my friend was visiting Reno and wanted to go. This restaurant was no different from other sushi restaurants, they only had one thing on the menu for me, a vegetable tempura dinner. I would of been ok with one choice, if it had been a great meal… but it wasn’t. While the tempura was cooked nicely: crisp breading and not too oily; some of the sweet potato tempura was undercooked and the rest of the dinner was MEH! The edamame was overcooked. The rice was overcooked had no seasoning. I hate mayo so the cabbage side salad was just chopped cabbage with out the mayo dressing. Lastly, the miso soup was flavorless and over salted. What made it worse was the really bad service. Our waitress had an fake obnoxious personality and was off the floor in equal proportion to her being on the floor. She ignored our table for a long time before she came to take our order and was VERY slow to refill our water glasses. Moreover, I had ordered a glass of wine with my dinner, she never brought it out… not kidding NEVER saw the glass at all! Also, when I asked her for a cabbage salad with out mayo dressing, she just dropped off bowl of shredded cabbage and seemed inconvenienced with my request… waitress seemed more interested in chatting up her coworkers than in giving good service. That said, my friend loves this restaurant… so maybe their sushi is out of this world, but their vegetation options and service were totally subpar! I will not return.

Alright, guys… get ready for an awesome review! I haven’t had really good sushi in a long time. All of that changed when I stepped into Sushi Pier 2 for the first time. My parents and I were seated right away. There was no wait! It was great! They had ALLYOUCANEAT sushi for lunch! I believe it was $ 17-$ 18 per person.(which is a really great deal because sushi rolls usually cost about $ 10+ each) My favorite appetizer would have to be the stuffed calamari, HANDSDOWN! I’ve never had anything like it before. And when I bit into it for the first time, oh man… it was life changing. it literally melted in my mouth. Ok, ok… I’m over exaggerating a little bit. But it was SUPERGOOD! :p I promise. I love the quality of the raw fish/sushi here. It’s so flippin’ finger-lickin’ good. It’s fresh and the texture was magnificent. I was really impressed. The portions were perfect. The sushi chefs aren’t greedy by putting little fish and a lot of rice on their rolls like other sushi restaurants I’ve been to. I must say, Sushi pier 2 gives generous amount of sashimi and raw fish in their sushi rolls. The staff and employees were nice and smiled most of the time :) Our waitress checked on us often and my glass of water was never empty. If you have any room left in your happy tummy by the end of lunch/dinner, I recommend trying the dessert too. I like the way they set up their all-you-can-eat. because you get to pick what you want from a menu and they serve all of your orders on one plate. it’s so awesome and convenient. I wish all sushi restaurants did it like that. Sushi pier 2 is spacious and has a modern, yet cozy feel to it. I’ll post some pictures to show y’all what I’m talking about. :) If there was one thing I had to critique about this place, it would be adding pictures of sushi to their menu. It may be a personal preference, but I think that’d help costumers decide what they want faster. Just sayin’ ;) My apologies for writing a novel, LOL. but this place is great! I highly recommend bringing your family and friends here because I’m definitely bringing mine! :)

My family is in love with both sushi piers, so they frequent both locations. Sushi Pier 2 is the closest to our church, so we went here last week for Sunday lunch. The place was busy and there was a 10 minute wait. No complaints considering Sushi Pier’s popularity. All four of us ordered lunch entrée specials. I ordered the shrimp and vegetable tempura along with an order of «moondog stars.» These were basically crab rangoons; that’s not to say they weren’t pretty good! The entrée options all come with rice, edamame, and a house salad that features a really great miso-type dressing. I am generally underwhelmed by the specialty roll options. My family goes insane for the King Kong and Godzilla, but something about their fried rolls doesn’t measure up with the quality that I’ve had elsewhere. Sushi Pier 2 is much larger than the original location and has an interesting modern design. I personally still prefer the ambiance of the midtown location. I also much prefer the Virginia St. location’s service, which may also be tied to the disparity in size. Our waitress, on top of being very busy with multiple parties was very absent-minded, failing to giving our orders in a timely and organized fashion as they should have come out. My brother’s food came out much colder than ours. Generally still impressed with the Sushi Pier chain. Still my top choice when it comes to sushi in Reno.

This was my first time at this location. When hubby and I visit Reno, we normally go to the other location. The last time we went. service was not up to par. like seriously.i remember leaving feeling hangry. We decided to try this location and we were not disappointed. We got seated at the bar, including our 4 yr old. Hubby and I did AYCE while the kid had a bowl of udon. We were warned that the bowl of udon was big since they didn’t have a kid’s sized. We appreciated the warning. but thanked the waitress because we knew our kid could eat haha. Mickey and Donald were my first order and always my favorite. We didn’t bother with the long rolls this time because we were just craving the nigiri and hand rolls. Service at this location was much better. The restaurant location is HUGE and plenty if parking.
